Description

A new beauty, named Midnight Oud from Romano Ricci’s niche line Juliette Has A Gun has just arrived on the market. Designer’s ambition for launching this fragrance is to introduce a combination of rock and elegance, creating this romantic and original concept this way, which accompanies the whole collection and creates an image of modern and fragrant rebel.

As for the collection, apart from this fragrance, we can expect just one more edition, since it was planned that Juliette Has A Gun series would encompass 5 perfumes. The new fragrance Midnight Oud was inspired by oriental notes, including accords of Moroccan rose, oud, amber, several sorts of musk, saffron, geranium and patchouli oil. Rose is definitely a common symbol of the whole niche line and this time it is combined with special, mystical Oud tact in a wonderful way.

Midnight Oud arrives in a metallic flacon with engraved name and ornaments. Outer carton has cylindrical shape, just like previous editions, and is dressed in dark velvet with a satin ribbon as a feminine detail. The fragrance is available exclusively at Colette.fr in amount of 100 ml EDP.

Midnight Oud was launched in 2009.

This is one of the best oud mixes I’ve ever came across!
I got sick of the repetitive oud-rose fragrances but THIS..this is something wonderful!
It is Middle Easternly oudy & so softly charming with the rose & saffron addition.
Oudy, rosey, & slightly spicy fragrance with a gentle yet arousing animalic hint that is likely due to the castoreum/musk combo.
I must admit, though, that I feel like I’ve smelled something like it before but Midnight Oud still is amazing!
While yes, it might suit females better, this is quite easily unisex.
    10/10 release from Juliette.

I love it sooo much! Burning rose, strong and velvety at the same time. Unfortunately I cannot wear it…massive headache, even with a single spray. So sad.

This is a quite linear rosy oud with moderate longevity/sillage as many have mentioned. However, it is very generic in its nature, and “nothing special” for oud lovers of niche fragrances.
I believe this could be a nice gift for a lady 40+, who uses mainstream fragrances otherwise, to give a bit smth different.
For me, it is not even Worth having a 10 ml. Try Before you buy.

Personally, I don’t find this sharp like other reviewers say, but strong. The smell is beautiful – warm, rosy oud – and I imagine myself doing it justice in winter, so I’ll save the rest of my sample for then! Moderate to heavy sillage and extremely long lasting. Also, I find it linear, but this is not at all an issue with me.

This is beautiful on me, intense, good sillage and longevity…..
    In love with this fragrance…..

I’m sorry but…. I like to keep it real. I’ll try anything a handful of times. I tried thrice. This is so sharp and so overly “mature” although I’d never wish this upon my elders. (I’m 37) I am not sensitive to perfumes at all but this is very sharp and nearly headache inducing. Rose, geranium and musk. Not like an actual rose, more like a rose scented soap from the 80s. Definitely not a safe blind buy and definitely not office friendly or anything I’d want to wear around other humans…. myself included.

Nice! I found Midnight Oud to be a somewhat skanky rose-oud that is warmly spiced with plenty of saffron and rich leather and dark musk. To be honest, it reminded me of a toned-down of the beastly oud fragrance known as Mancera Black to Black – performs well, but won’t fill an arena.
If you like Black to Black, but it mentally and physically scarred you after wearing more than 1-1/2 spray, then Midnight Oud a try because it much easier to control. Performance is solid in that is lasted an honest 8-10 hours on my skin and projected above average.
While I prefer B2B, Midnight Oud is a very nice and highly underrated full-flavored rose-oud frarance. Also, this is equally suited for both the guys and gals so disregard the fact it is marketed to the ladies. Very nice!

Could this be worn by a man i love rose oud combinations???
    Or is it mega floral.
Any similarity to armani rose de arabie or van cleef & arpels precious oud.
    Any advice much appreciated
    It’ll be a blind buy

A under rated Oud. This should get more praise. Beautiful rose and Oud fragrance. Yes, it’s been done before, but this scent is well balanced. The Oud is not to much. It’s very pleasant. The rose is very beautiful. The longevity is wonderful as is the sillage.

now the whole initial blast of Midnight Oud is (also litterally) breathtaking. this is the gunshot in the face as like Montales’ Louban, Black Aoud, Attar, Aoud Red Roses and
like with the 80s powerperfumes Giorgio,Poison,Obsession, Knowing,Coco,Red,GaleHaymanBeverlyHills,Moschino parfum the toilette as you still had then,Opium and Youth Dew of 70s and 50s fame. “now this is perfume”. with MO we immediately and totally smell nostril clearing Oud, Rose, Saffron, Patchouli and this blast lasts for an hour. I love it. the rose is as if it is deep drenched-in-wine the 1859 tzar Alexander Chateau d’Yquem stuff. this rose delivers. the Oud has all the nylony, vinyloid, medicinal qualities I adore. (Ever tried Dusitas “Oudh Infini” which I am bewitched by?) then,
MO definitely has a chic demeanour, lasting for hours with grandiose sillage also due methinks, to the castoreum. as someone remarked the rose is reinforced by the geranium while the saffron refines the rose and oud. its lasting base is given by the sandelwood, castoreum and amber. the packuaguing is really chic where the velvet cocon is adorned with the ribbon but wears with deep brown chestnut colour as it then was said: it was dedicated to Dubai either or, the Dubai market. I bought three flacons in one gesture.
a terrible, terrific, 80s reviving perfume.
the papyrus goes lost on me and I belong to the half of the populace not able to detect synthetic muscs. the whole Narciso Rodriguez goes blown in the wind for me.
STRONG,STRONG,STRONG: this is what I love.
[“accords of Moroccan rose, oud, amber, several sorts of musk (castoreum), saffron, geranium, sandelwood, papyrus and patchouli oil.”]

This is nice oud for beginners. Love the saffron and rose. Always a winning combo for me. Ive been trying to see a similarity with Mugler wonderful Miroir Volupte which I already own. This has loads more perfumey rose care of adding loads of rose geranium. I don’t get that in Volupte. It’s a good thing I don’t mind rose geranium in smallish amounts but if you can’t stand it then this definitely not for you.
The castoreum is more evident after half an hour or so.
Not surpringly this dark and dangerous lovely has the best longevity of all this range (a part from Extreme). Moderate sillage. The longer I wear it the more I am loving it.

Oud and roses. Nice, but done a lot of times before. I don’t get the urine-note that others tell about.
Try a few other takes on this theme before you buy this quite expensive version (beyond rose by clinique, rose oud by Yves rocher, intense oud by jovan…..).
But if you are a fan of JhaG, and/or love the bottle: it is not bad at all.

  13. :

I love it!!!! I keep reading reviews that say it smells like urine. I totally do not get that. This was gifted to me for my bday by Dante because she knew I loved it. I will be wearing this a lot.

Not my cup of tea at all! —Initial spray is a blast of STRONG animal urine on dirty wet wood (my opinion, my imagination of course). I can detect a lipstick vibe undertone after about 2-3 minutes but the agarwood is just too harsh and arrogant for me. For some fragrances, you just give your respects and move along. LOL!

  15. :

    4 out of 5

OK just received a 8ml vial from Scentbird and my first impression is “urine”. The deep yellow kind, when a patient treats him/herself to 8 cups of coffee per day and loathe water.
Maybe I need to give it more time.

Midnight Oud was placed on my Fragrantica ‘hate’ list the very first time I tested it. It remained a permanent fixture, until today.
Today, instead of oud giving me the bum-rush at first spritz, I was greeted with a favorite note combination, rose and patchouli. A beautiful rose and patchouli, one I recognize from Vengeance Extreme and an unexpected treat. Granted, the treat was short lived. Oud, as usual with almost all fragrances on the oud bandwagon, refuses to share my senses. Oud, aoud, oudh and more oodh is what I ultimately was forced to concede to, once again. If oud wasn’t just so muddy to my nose, maybe this fragrance would have a better chance with me. If it wasn’t so masculine here, maybe. If it wasn’t so tenacious and faded quickly or was more approachable, somehow prettier in Midnight Oud…maybe. BUT, it is. At least not at the end of this day.
    Noteworthy Notes?
    -OUD, as the name implies
    -Rose/Patchouli tease
    -Magnolia, late and tinny
*Also noteworthy is the longevity. It’s crazy!
Who knows, in a couple of more years, Midnight Oud might make it to my love list. Ok, ok, maybe the like list. Today, it made it off the hate list, if only for a moment 🙂

Not the biggest fan of this stuff. It smells like strong and sharp of women’s lipstick, and not in a good way. It doesn’t develop into anything else on the skin, so this is definitely a pass for me. I’m glad I didn’t have to pay anything for this, and even happier that I no longer have it.
This sounds like a harsh review, so I’ll end on a positive note. If you’re looking for something from this house, check out Miss Charming. It has an authentic, non-powdery rose, unlike most rose fragrances that I’ve smelt. For that reason, it is definitely one of the best rose fragrances that I’ve smelt.

It’s Lady Vengeance loaded with oud. The oud opening is unmistakable. It’s slightly animalic and boozy but not in an overwhelming dose found in Montale. 5 mins past you’ll get the musky/soapy rose DNA in the original Lady Vengeance. I found this pleasantly different enough to warrant a FB but not too extreme as to deviate from the line. In this regard, Midnight Oud is skillfully crafted. 8/10

  19. :

Juliette has a truckload of soap.
I really wanted to like this house, and I didn’t dislike it. But “didn’t dislike” is the max I could muster. There are, of course, many fans of soapy scents – and that’s not a negative; however, I’m not one of them.
It is odd to me that an oud would have a soap-like quality, but this one does. On me, it’s an almost linear rose soap. I almost want to say “Caress” soap. My mom loved Caress soap, and roses, and she would likely find this scent very appealing.
I’m more into dark and sultry, so this one is not for me.
The entire line is not for me, I’m afraid.

  20. :

Off-putting animalic oud opening in full beast mode. Later heavy woods and papyrus give way to amber musk. Rose is completely absent on my skin throughout. Men’s frag all the way.

  21. :

    3 out of 5

Well, I finally found an interesting offering from this house. The soft rose is most prominent in the opening, and then it settles down into smooth wood with just the dantiest hint of leather and rubber. A pleasant, incense-like floral oud. While probably the most interesting fragrance I’ve tried yet from this house, MO is pretty tame for an oud. It’s a friendly and very wearable oud and leather; a little bit naughty but still quite genteel, an oud you can even wear to the office. I may actually get a bottle of this easygoing fragrance.

  22. :

    4 out of 5

at first spray this is strong and oddly plastic, like white vinyl couches in a bright red room. then i get some florals, primarily rose but it’s subtle. after about 10 minutes on the skin the rose is blooming even more and i’m liking the scent a whole lot more too. the saffron and castoreum is blooming making the scent more grounded and interesting and less plasticky! it turns primarily rose and castoreum on me, it’s a bit ‘skanky’ but not too much and it’s good. my favorite in the JHAG discovery kit.

  23. :

    5 out of 5

For the first couple of hours it’s just oud: pungent, medicinal and a bit unsettling, but also enjoyable in a bizarre way. After the initial oud blast it starts lingering closer to skin and becomes more blended and approachable. I really can’t tell the notes apart; it’s just a warm and cozy oriental with wood, florals and a tinge of leather.
It radiates quite strongly for about 2 hours after the application, but then it turns the volume down. I’d say the projection is heavy’ish in the beginning and moderate later on. It’s best to go easy on the trigger because this is NOT a scent you want to overspray! The longevity is pretty good: at least 8 hours of effective wear (meaning that it’s clearly present), but the remnants of it can be smelled many hours later. It’s somewhat versatile if the amount of sprays is adjusted, although it might work better in cooler weather. This one, Moon Dance and Vengeance Extreme are by far my favorites from the JHAG discovery kit.

It starts with rose and mellow spices and 15 min later it intensifies into a very strong oriental scent yet a little soapy, I feel like I’m taking a bath with incense sticks around in some expensive spa. This perfume is sexy in a harem-y way. Strong sillage and last for 3hrs on me.

  25. :

    3 out of 5

This perfume starts with mostly oud, rose, and saffron. This is then joined by castoreum which eventually overpowers the oud and ruins this fragrance for me. A nice introduction to oud, but not worth buying a full bottle.

  26. :

    4 out of 5

Bandaids and brie cheese rind as the opening – not bad (I kind of like it), but strange. Rose makes an entrance within minutes, and the whole thing softens. I purchased a discovery set, and this is the nicest from the group. That said, several better quality rose/oud combos can be found out there – Kilian’s rose oud, and gold oud are good examples.

    ***
my first and so far only encounter with such a dominant oud note (also tested noir de noir by tf but the oud there is barely noticeable compared to this). i must admit i can’t easily decide if i enjoy oud or not. it’s a heavy and old, organic smell, quite dark and i think moist. it has a truffle-like texture but more pungent and maybe a little acrid. all that mixed with a lovely sweet jammy rose that stays in the background. and a bitter creamy saffron brush. it’s a strange smell that i need to meditate on. thought-provoking.

Even my cat loves it!i swear as soon as i put it on she kept sniffing me and jumped on my feet and shockingly she began licking my neck,so,apparently we are both loving this fragrance~outside is freezing and the snow is sparkling in the sun and this scent is absolutely amazing with everything surrounding me.i can’t imagine this perfume in summer, seems so heavy for heat but with the freshness of the air at -15 Celsius is superb, and my skin embraces every single note.i’m very difficult with perfumes,it rejects almost everything, not that they smell bad,but i think they smell weird, and i don’t find the reason, that’s why the majority go to my mother, she absorbes all the wonderful fragrances and they smell amazing on her.there are very few perfumes i love and Midnight Oud is one of them.

  29. :

Gosh I really can’t wear oud. I wish I could see what everyone sees in it, but oud is just a nightmare for me, and I usually like strong, oriental notes. This particular note gives me an instant headache in any composition.
Soooo this is another Juliette I couldn’t wear but can’t help sort of liking.
The opening is very grapey on my skin but soon turns into a thick syrupy composition. Oud takes the lead but rose is definitely present. I detect the same animalic notes as in Mad Madame. No incense at all, althoug I was sort of expecting it.
There are two sides to Midnight Oud.
Sometimes it smells very medicinal, verging on industrial. Reminiscent of the smell of darkroom chemicals and gasoline and everything harsh and synthetic.
Sometimes it smells like Dubai nights, dry, dusty, animalic, spiritual, strong, spicy, but with an urban vibe.
It doesn’t develop much on my skin, it just gets a little powdery. The longevity is quite good but I can’t really estimate the sillage.
I have to say I have a lot of respect for Midnight Oud, mainly because it was unapologetically released years before this agarwood obsession. The notes are quite well blended and the concept was very well developed, the gold bottle reflects its expensive smelling content perfectly and the name is very appropriate, because this really is straightforward oud done in a luxurious and modern way.
Edit: Geranium is also prominent on my skin, another note I have a hard time dealing with

Well this is like that new coworker that gives you a bad first impression, comes on too strong, starts off offensive and in your face, but as you give this person time and get to know them, they show their better side, and you become friends.
Everytime I spray this scent it turns me off, but after time it is quite nice indeed, the magic is in the dry down, I do enjoy this, but for me, I can’t quite wear something so formal and oud/rosey, this also lasts and lasts, 8 hours later and the scent is still there.
Quality stuff, just not my cup of tea

  31. :

    3 out of 5

Oud and rose… no. Or maybe it’s castoreum that spoils it? Or geranium? I dunno, but the fact is that it’s too bitter on my skin. Too serious. Too oriental. Too heavy. One big ‘too’.

Just tried this at World Beauty store in Auckland.
What a blast from the past! This fragrance immediately triggered some nostalgic feelings for me. Rather unexpectedly, this smells EXACTLY like Fendi by Fendi, the original one which is now sadly discontinued.
This has exactly the same smell and feel as Fendi, except with a very prominent dry, powdery damask rose right on the top, and missing that extra spicy component. As time goes on I am getting the amber and bergamot. The things is, I cannot seem to separate this smell from my impression of Fendi so it is obscuring my perception a little bit. Do I like it though? Sort of. Maybe I am remembering Fendi as better than it was or maybe JHAG is just missing something vital and addictive. I think I am also getting the tangy metal others have noted.
I will try to give you a feel for what it conjures up for me:
This perfume has a very vintage, almost antique feel. I am picturing a show girl from an old Western film in her corset, satin skirts and fishnet stockings. Her name is Juliette and she has an ornate, gold revolver hidden in her skirts. She smokes cigarillos in the bar with the gentlemen. She has dusky black locks done up and scented with powdery rose that leaves a trail behind her, a few dark ringlets fall to contrast against her beautifully pale shoulders. This smells like her leather gloves, the cold metal of her gun, the dry rose powder of her hair, and the scented powder that adorns her pretty cheeks and voluptuous embonpoint…
I suppose this is lovely in its simplicity, but it is by no means beautiful or a show stopper. I like it for its similarity to my old love, and the image it conjures. I cannot decide whether or not I want to own it…I vaguely enjoy the aura it gives me. Not sure if it is really me though.

Very similar to Montales Black Oud and the performance is outstanding. This stuff stays on overnight and is still there in full bloom in the morning. Not many fragrances do that . This is a quality Rose/oud combination that is as nice as any of them. Not sure wht it’s only marketed to women because this is as unisex as it gets. I really like this.

  34. :

This starts off strong with an incredibly dusty saffron and something sharp, which I suspect is the papyrus. So be prepared, ye valiant testers. But it begins to mellow pretty quickly into something less wild and something a little more darkly powerful. It becomes very smooth.
I like it more the longer it wears, but there’s a common note in almost all the JHAG fragrances, something I can’t put my finger on, possibly the bergamot, that’s offputting to my nose as it’s slightly sharp and synthetic. Or maybe it’s the hefty dose of Iso E Super creating an artificial creaminess that clashes with the other notes. I really don’t know, but whatever it is, it’s strong here.
I’ve tried this twice and both times I started off hating it and wound up enjoying it in the drydown. The rose, the oud, the animalic notes, it’s a good combination.

  35. :

Midnight Oud is can be best described as sexy with an attitude. The oud, rose and castoreum play well together. The rose note is rather potent and a little on the synthetic side when initially sprayed on, which might be a turn-off for some people, so I would recommend trying before buying. Definitely a cold weather fragrance.
This may be listed as a Women’s fragrance but men can definitely wear this proudly and unabashedly. I’m a guy and I love this Midnight Oud.
Longevity is around 8 hours and sillage is large.
If you are a fan of oud as well as rose, you will enjoy this.
    7.5/10

  36. :

This my second time trying this juice. The aroma of Oud and rose gives it very luxurious aroma with a sex appeal. After the fragrance settles it has a soft and warm vib coming from amber. Saffron is listed, it has a very distinct aroma, I don’t know if it’s my sense of smell…I can’t smell it?
Longevity and Silage is slightly better than moderate lasting 6-8hrs if I spray it 2x.
    Overall thoughts,
This fragrance is all OUD and Rose with underlying sweetness to it. Excellent during the fall/winter months. If you want to get your partner’s hormones going…spray it on about about 1 hour earlier and this stuff is like pheromones. This juice is a gender bender…Excellent 9/10

Received a sample of this today. My goodness words fail me. It is beautiful. As others have said the beginning is strong, too strong for me and I thought I’m not going to like this. Which disappointed me as I really thought I would love it. It’s a bit chemically on first spray which I imagine would put lots off but stick with this one, trust me.
As the middle and base notes replace the top, it evolves into the most lovely perfume. The type where you find yourself constantly sniffing your wrist. Warm, rosy and a lovely oud.
I shall most certainly buy a bottle, or maybe two,( just in case)

So, my JHAG Discovery Kit came in the post today (yes, it was like Christmas come early!) and I as someone who has a hard time with oud/aoud I was very pleasantly surprised by this offering. Although I can see the appeal and appreciate the art in middle eastern perfumery, I have a very European nose it would seem, preferring aouds by Tom Ford or Mancera. This is definitely a “European” aoud.
I find this leans towards spicy saffron rather than aoud as a main note, with ambery rose and aoud flanking. Happily, I get nuances of geranium as well. It has some pretty good lasting power, too and although it’s a very “easy” aoud, if this note is not for you – period – I’m gonna go ahead and suggest Mad Madame for a big hitter/make-an-impression scent.
It’s safe to say I’ve well and truly cemented my membership to the JHAG fan club. Now to choose my first 50ml bottle…

  39. :

Holy bandaids!  Well, sandalwood, rose, saffron and bandaids.  But, not in a bad way and only if I stuff my nose right in it.  As an oud noob, on my skin this is pleasantly aromatic, pungent and complex.  A rich and interesting rose – well done!  I can see why oud/rose is such a ubiquitous perfume combo.

  40. :

    5 out of 5

i just got a sample…..its a beautiful rose, deep red. like one of those big red ones with the thick petals I remember smelling as a child. its got some depth under it, the oud.saffron.I got this because of the patchouli note, which I dont get at all. I dont know if Ill be investing in a bottle, depending on how it wears in the future. but as a rose-centric perfume, its lovely.

  41. :

    5 out of 5

First, I like this perfume so much; I just can’t say I love for the reasons I explained below:
-it’s true, this oud is right for West market; not so loud, not so bitter, not so “what the hell…”; so it’s a good point where to start to introduce your nose to this strange note.
-after 90 minutes, it fades, and what remains it’s (to me) a really LOVELY, dark, beautiful… Lady Vengeance Extreme??!! Just more “oudish”, and not that strong on patchouli, but that is.
So, I wonder that if you love oud so much that you want it in your perfume as the main star, maybe you should choose something louder on it, while, if you love the drydown, try to go straight to LVE before buying this.

This opens with a frightening plastic doll head punch. I can’t think of how else to describe it. It’s terrible. Thankfully, this mess is very short lived and within five minutes that train wreck has been cleared from the tracks.
The next train carries a very heavy, yet clean patchouli accompanied by a heavy and waxy rose. It’s the same patchouli this house uses in their scent Lady Vengeance. On the skin, is where I find the oud and patchouli, while the rose dances heavily on the cloud around me. I’m also getting a lot of an almost minty/citrusy/rosy brightness that I am attributing to the geranium. In fact, as I sniff and think on it, the geranium note is equally as strong as the rose here. The oud and Patchouli almost become one note as the oud is really faint in this composition. Oud for non-oud lovers. This scent is beautiful but so very heavy in this stage. It’s almost like a physical weight you can feel pressing down on you.
When I reach the heart the oud /patchouli note is not as strong. They are still detected against the skin but you need to hunt a bit to find them. The rose and geranium are the main event now. I think a combination of roses was used here from the east and west, it has the feel of a Taif rose but also the touch of the European rose. The entire composition feels a bit lighter and not as dense as it did forty minutes ago. It’s a beautiful and harmonious moment to breathe in.
When you hit the dry down the amber-sweetened patchouli comes out and dominates the rose. That’s all I can really detect at this point, the roses and the sweetened patchouli. No geranium, no oud.
I could no longer detect the scent on my skin after six hours, but it was still very strong on my clothing. I actually think I like it better on my shirt. The amber is stronger and everything feels a bit more balanced. Weird.
Overall, because of how incredibly heavy the roses are in the beginning, I need to be in the mood to wear Midnight Oud. When I do reach for this scent I really enjoy wearing it. It’s beautiful.
If you are looking for a serious oud scent, I would not suggest this one, however. The oud is faint, almost like an afterthought.

Early on for me, it’s only been an hour since 1 small spray. It screams hello and smelled right away like leather, saffron and a bit like bug spray! It changed nearly second by second on me, which was super fun to experience. Soon it was sort of a cross between ashes, tobacco and something warm, maybe the oud? It’s my first oud, so lots to still learn.
Now that the 1st hour has come and gone, I get leather and rose with amber.
I like it quite a bit. It will take a bit more tries to see how this settles. And maybe a few more samples of other ouds, probably…

Very disappointed with this one-I like rose and oud fragrances, but this isn’t a good one on me. I found it very astringent, chemical almost. There was no warmth, no vanilla, no sweetness or femininity to me, just harsh chemical notes. Having said that, a male colleague came into my office about 40 minutes after I’d applied it (at home) and raved about it-he thought it was gorgeous and very sexy (and wasn’t flirting with me, he’s gay and 20 years younger than me!). So, going by the distance from my desk to my door, the sillage is about 4 metres, and longevity is good-about 6 hours. It did soften towards hour 3 or so with less of the chemical and more of the floral.

After wearing David Yurmans oud / rose formula which is a monster with sillage and longevity thought this would be as good , well only difference is the rose is more prominent (Yurmans more emphasis on oud ) after heavy opening of oud it settles very quickly with a sweet rosy smell and only after one spray (do not overspray here ) it has the makings of being the best offering of this combination, purchased solely for unisex and personally think it wll work . Try both you will not be disappointed

This is more wearable than many of the Montale and super strong oud/rose scents. After many hours into the scent it gets a little sweeter due to amber. Very unisex and a delight to smell. Long lasting with good enough silage. I won’t put it with Dior’s Oud scent but it’s more towards the front than the back of the list.

So many oud/rose combos, so little fire! Haha! Nah, I’m only serious.
Oud, rose, sandalwood, rose, oud, patch, rose, oud, amber, oud, rose, geranium, oud, rose. Forever and ever. Amen. Done & done to death.
Actually, this is one of the better ones! It lasts an eternity and projects well. It’s a tired theme, but very well executed I must admit. If oud & rose is your thing, you could do far worse…
EDIT: Ok. I’m back pedalling here at a rapid rate! This has gradually worked its way up to the top of my list in what is an extremely crowded genre. And that’s saying something!

Oud and rose, rose and oud. With maybe a little bit of saffron for astringency.
This is a big fragrance and quite dominant when you first spray, with a slight medicinal edge early on,but great promise of the warm middle notes which emerge in time.
It mellows into a very nice, if powerful, “red” rose – supported and strengthened by an elegant and restrained oud.
Sillage and longevity are both very good. However, unlike some people I don’t see this as unisex – it seems quite feminine, even downright sensually female, in nature.
Full marks for this one – a very intelligent interpretation of a rose oud.

This is a really lovely warm frangrance. I am just getting back to enjoying fragrance after being too busy to try anything new. I tend to like heavier florals or orientals. Old faves have included Coco, Fendi, Fracas, Jasmine Noir, Angel, Jardins des Bagatelles, and for summer: Burberry London or Hannah Morae. Juliette Has a Gun Midnight Oud is definitely in my repetoire. I like the amber and sandalwood bottom notes, especially, and the rose and bergamont upper notes. Little surprises are the papyrus and geranium (I needed guidance to know these two were there, but once I knew what to look for I found them). I had a flashback to Fendi, if you can believe it though Midnight Oud is not nearly as heavy. I will invest in a bottle, without a doubt. Thank you, Fragrantica for helping me get back to perfume!

I enjoy Midnight Oud’s feminine take on oud without the aid of candy notes or an overdose of florals. That is for about 15 minutes, at which point it starts to smell like turpentine and furniture polish.

There is a copy cat fragrance available called Oud Azrak Mumayyaz in egypt belonging to one of the middle eastern brands and it’s for $35 if you can lay a hand on it buy it instead

This is a good introduction to Oud, if this is synthetic which I guess at the price it should be, it’s not a bad attempt at the real thing. Up front I get the rose, oud and saffron which nicely spices the other two notes up. These three are the major actors in this, with patchouli, amber and musk having smaller supporting roles. The sillage and longevity are fantastic but I have never had a problem with JHAG so far. Comparing this rose/oud combination with others that I have, I would say that this comes across harsher, more like the Montales than compared to the likes of MFK’s Oud or Mona di Orio’s Oud. However if I had not come across these, the harshness would not be apparent. After the loud opening, the drydown is much tamer, a warm musky and woody rose. Overall this is a lovely floral oriental and if I were starting out again, this would be a great addition to my wardrobe. Not meaning to take attention away from Midnight Oud, but for those who can’t or won’t fork out the 100 odd dollars this goes for even on auction sites, there are many less pricey Arabian oils and perfumes with the same structure of notes, scent and performance.

I wasn’t expecting to like this. Up to this point I though oud was reserved for the more mature ladies out there(I’m 19). Boy, I was wrong. I love this perfume. It starts off smelling a bit like a medicine cabinet but shortly after that turns into a sexy, dark, very beautiful fragrant mix of rose and saffron. Up close it smells a bit intense, but as you move you get the most gorgeous wafts of the sc
