I ordered small bottles (10ml) of the Vaudd collection some time ago, but they got lost in the shuffle of my out-of-control queue. By chance I happened upon them today and decided to give these perfumes a sniff, though I believe that they are now discontinued. Sorry, Daniel!
Mens Rea is a lily of the valley soliflore to my nose. It’s light and somewhat fresh, but honestly I do not smell much beyond the dominant LOTV. This makes me wonder why Mens Rea would have been classified as a made-for-men fragrance, given that lily of the valley has a reputation for being somewhat girly. Innocent and girly.
Lily of the valley perfumes vary a lot in quality, and this one is about average. It’s definitely wearable, but nowhere near as nice as vintage Diorissimo or even the more recent Van Cleef & Arpels Muguet Blanc. On the other hand, it’s better than Lalique Fleurs de Cristal and a lot better than reformulated Coty Muguet des Bois. In sum, the world can do quite well without this perfume’s continued availability, though it certainly was no crime against perfumery.
