Such a rubbery and foul odor. I immediately had to wash this off.

I am new to buying and trying multiple colognes. I recently tried John Varvatos (original in black bottle) and liked the initial sweetness of the fragrance. The sales person said it was plum. It was because of this sweet scent that I took a gamble and bought Menphis.
The initial blast is a strong dose of a mélange of the fruits and the juniper berry scent. This is a little medicinal in nature… in a kids medicine sort of way (a candy smell to help kids get past the flavor of the medicine). It does not last long and I believe what is a occurring is a battle of the sweetness of the fruits and the body of the spices.
Once it begins to dry down (5 minutes) the plum comes forward, pulls up a sandalwood chair and drinks a big glass of rum. I do not find the smell sickenly cloying but somewhat relaxing like I can lounge around all day. It is a sweetish combo with the plum very slowly backing down to the rum and then vanilla and a dash of sandalwood taking over after a few hours.
All I can think of is this is a great scent for the wrong season. I see this ideal for Spring but may not fair too well in hot Summer days. The odd thing (well there are several see below) is once it dries down I could see it being very nice in fall and even winter but the introductory fresh plum to me seems out of place for those seasons.
May day May day help needed! First, I hope other more experienced noses give this a try for I believe some effort was given to make a scent of quality by one odd little company. Second, who is Giorgio Monti? I could not find a webpage and thought maybe they are out of business. Three, what makes a fragrance fail? I know most of it comes down to the scent but well this is one odd named cologne. I understand they made a scent called Los Angeles and figure this was a play on the city Memphis but then realized they made a women’s Menphis… shouldn’t it be Womenphis? Could it all be a problem of transliteration? The presentation is a hefty bottle and lid inside an oval blue hinged plastic and pho metal box that reminded me of a hat box (with a hinge).
All of it from the interesting evolutionary nature of the scent, the quality bottling and packaging and even the interesting naming to me makes this better than an also ran.
