A beautiful stroll through the forest under dappled, balmy sunlight. Fir, cedar, sticky golden resins, smoky myrrh, it’s an almost photorealistic impression of a pine and fir forest, with sticky fragrant bark, crisp fresh green needles, and densely perfumed, thick resinous sap dripping from fallen boughs and broken branches. There’s a bright, clean golden burst of linden blossom, pollen laden it fills the air as you step free of the forest into the sunshine and a seclusive meadow clearing. Violet leaf emerges, clean and green, woody and grassy, while sweet, delicate wildflowers fill the air, ephemeral but beautiful. Light breezes carry transient scents of the forest through the meadow, a gentle reminder of the green, woody, resinous aromas found there, and creating a clear contrast to the sunshiny sweet warmth in the grassy field. As you lie in the grass gazing at the sky, the breezy forest overtures mingle with the floral grassy freshness to complete a picture perfect afternoon.

As a lover of evergreens, I ordered this one on a whim hoping for a blend of wild mountain-meadow flowers surrounded by fir. I was born & raised in Colorado, and anything that remotely reminds me of its beauty is sure to be a winner with me. Upon application, Meadow & Fir delivers everything the notes promise. The fir/cedar/linden notes are even a tiny bit camphorous, but these settle down nicely into grasses and leafy wild flowers. I love violet, though it can be overplayed and overly sweet… but not here. It’s the perfect dusting to allow the more woody and resinous aspects to play without stealing the entire show. At dry down, it all hangs together and continues to refresh. My eyes (yes, my eyes) still get that miniscule menthol-like vapor, but it is most certainly not a deterrent. And the fir is not just comprised of evergreen needles, but also the wood. However, I wish the meadow flowers would linger as long as the fir. But these are fleeting, even in real life, and must eventually give way to Quaking Aspen, frost, and snow. There’s an interesting flower in the Rocky Mountain High-Country, called Mountain Lilac… similar in looks to wild bluebells, vivid purple, and nearly identical in scent to scrub variety we all know. I am going to try layering this with I Profumi di Firenza Lilla Serenella (not in dropdown), and see what transpires. But the upshot for me, Meadow & Fir can stand alone, lasts longer than an hour (though it lingers close to skin), and – for a whim – was a very happy buy.
