Description

“Inspired by the sacred fowl of the Hindu mythology which has unmatched impact and influence on the Indian traditions, Mayura (i.e. peacock in Sanskrit) is the ultimate concoction that aims to emulate the majestic aura of this holy bird. Using carefully selected raw ingredients and precious essences, Mayura is one powerful animalic-floral-oriental chypre scent that would transport you to the mystical realm of the Orient. Mayura opens with a bursting cloud of full-bodied Indian tuberose, opulent Indian jasmine and creamy ylang ylang, following by a bouquet of elegant rose and elusive davana. The masala blend in the heart then adds a mildly spicy dimension to the composition, while letting the oakmoss and amber peek through. At a later stage, a myriad of precious essences, including Mysore sandalwood, agarwood, incense, ruh khus, and jatamansi root forms an oriental orchestra. All of these notes play in “maestoso” with the sensual animalic accents of civet, castoreum, hyraceum, ambergris, and musk. All in all, Mayura is the opulence, the regality, the veneration of the dancing celestial bird with spread feathers. Mayura is the luxury in a bottle. As with all of our other products, this fragrance DOES NOT contain any animal derivatives. All animalistic notes are composed using high quality ingredients of plant and synthetic origin only. 100% vegan-friendly.” – a note from the brand.

Mayura was launched in 2018. Mayura was created by Eugene Au and Emrys Au.

This is someone’s memory of vintage Guerlain Vol de Nuit. I have a very old bottle of extrait and this smells like that bottle with more freshness, with the florals done exactly right. The florals emerge in a rush that takes your breath away, the effect I smell from the notes list is narcissus and a suggestion of hyacinth in addition to tuberose and jasmine (it’s very well blended), all of which settle down over a sexy truly Guerlain style dirty vanilla sandalwood and musk. If you love vintage Guerlain perfumes, especially Vol de Nuit or Samsara, I think you will love this.

A wonderful strong vintage scent. Sadly it turns to Arpege on me which I already have. Funnily enough I was wearing that yesterday.
A touch animalic but a BIG hit of ylang, jasmine and tuberose. The floral notes ease off and it gets increasingly animalic and musky. Too animalic for my taste but then it quickly evolves again.
Now the oakmoss, jatamansi and artemisia are coming through. I can just about detect the Ambre gris and Amber at the back. This is definitely my favourite stage. I can’t say I detect Indian spices.
You can tell it’s a quality scent made with good materials. It evolves like a roller coaster. A great olfactory journey.
Great longevity and good sillage in the 28 degree room.

    Definitely a vintage vibe.
LOTS of ylang and tubereuse, both very animalic – this reminds me of Tubereuse Animale from Histoires de Parfums (not the scent like the same, rather the same animalic character).
    Great scent.

As a vintage-loving chypre aficionado I find this gorgeous blend a stunner. I originally sampled a split and after a first wearing immediately went for a full bottle. Warm, exotic, floral and earthy, waves of honeyed tropical flowers cascade over you and thoughts of tropical nights filled with bird calls while silk caresses your skin overtake you. The rich opening of Mayura is absolutely top notch and the balance between the florals and the supporting musky base is perfection.
A holy aura indeed. Not too many scents are capable of taking you on a spiritual pilgrimage, but this one is. It entwines about your body like a lover, and as day turns into night, the peacock folds his feathers and nestles into your skin, shimmering it’s influence into your dreams.
An excellent offering of the perfumer’s art – bravo to the Au brothers for this lovingly-created and splendidly composed work.

I bought this beauty blind, along with Miyako, a 2016 Art & Olfactory award winner by the same house. Mayura is already on backorder on the parfumer’s website after having just been released barely two months ago. Luckily, I scored a bottle of this on Ave Parfum.
Simply put, it is everything that I love about Amouage Jubilation 25, Zoologist Civet, and Papillon Salome rolled into one seriously arousing elixir. Straight to my top five…
A must try for any lovers of enormous animalics, vintage florals, and deeply resinous compositions. Full bottle worthy.

A gorgeous Eastern-tinged floral chypre that harkens back to the vintage days of bold perfumery, this offering is a very sensual experience in olfaction. The perfume starts off with an Indian floral burst (indian tuberose, jasmine, ylang ylang) and then moves to a middle that reveals the oakmoss, spices, amber, rose and wormwood. Upon complete settling the animalic woody elements come out in full form including the civet, castoreum, incense, vetiver, oud, sandalwood, jatamansi, and musk. The overall feeling is that of a dark floral incense, and some Indian incense sticks actually smell exactly like this. The perfumers state that they use synthetic derivatives for all animalic notes included in the composition, so this is a perfume suitable for vegans, in spite of the distinct animalic feel.Very strong in sillage/projection (please spray cautiously) and extremely long lasting and unisex (slightly feminine leaning), Mayura is a sumptuous and erotic offering from this niche Malaysian house that seems to be putting out very interesting and exceptional offerings. Enjoy!

Its devastating. If your a vintage animalic white floral lover.. it doesnt get anything better than this in the current marketplace. It reminds me of the great Carons of old. (Vintage Caron En Avion extrait comes to mind) I thought Id never ever say that again in these times of regulations we live in. 2nd sniff I was won over. 6/5 stars. Superior for the animalic white floral genre.
Make sure you love vintage animalic floral fragrances, big white floral complicated fragrances. A true Diva. Candygirls.. this will devour you whole.. stay far away from her. Those that worship at the alter of the greatest fragrances in history… you have to try this one.
