Description

The iris grows from a cocoa soil. The flower has a word to say.
The chocolate emperor accompanies her as a shadow.
He is her Pigmalion. Delicacy woos strength. A mixture of powders, a flower on the tip of a
cannon. It is a white flag on the shoulders of a prestigious army.
The actors of this perfume admire one another. Iris moves freely and her roots enjoy the
fresh soil.
No need to force the harmony, the wisdom is exquisite. The nose behind this fragrance is Karine Chevallier.

Went from dry semisweet cocoa-iris to straight-up fruity violet; I liked the beginning and the transition, but not so much the result.

Gorgeous violet and iris lightly dipped in semi sweet chocolate. The initial spray is a crisp floral, slightly sweetened about 15 minutes after by the emergence of the cacao note. It didn’t turn truly gourmand on my skin but I love the soft, powdery sweetness that remained throughout the 7 to 8 hours it stayed with me.

I have a decant from this stunning perfume and i love it!!
It is a crispy powdery fragrance, not too sweet, not too dry. And thanks heaven not a soapy!
This perfume reminds me of a much more softer and more powdery Shalimar 2009. Indeed very Chique. I get a lot of Iris notes, a litlle chocolate and something that reminds me of the little oranges they made in liquors in Italy.
    mmmmm Chic!

cacao amaro in primissimo piano. nel tempo la nota burrosa lascia spazio ad un ottimo iris polveroso assai simile a quello di hermes. bello e molto caldo.

Clearly not working for my skin.
Opened with a burst of metallic violets and soon turned to a powder and cacao mix from the iris and cacao mostly. Also violet is still there, but keeps in the background for me.
At the point where iris and cacao starts to work together this gets weird. It’s basically an old cosmetics cabinet with a chocolate left in it. And some sort of violets that just creeps in the background time after time showing it’s metallic face. Disappointing indeed.
Even though marketed as “unisex” it does get far too sweet on me, so I cannot imagine this on a male’s skin. The powdery sweetness is ultra feminine.

This has a very strong violet note, which on my chemistry drowned out all the other notes, so I did not get to experience the beauty of the fragrance.

Starts great! Spicy, nutty with a tinge of sweet chocolate. I was seriously in love! In an hours time it smelled like playdough. A kind of sweet playdough but still playdough, Glad I purchased a sample and didn’t shell out $165.00 to smell like a kid’s craft.

Not a good match for me. Opened great with a strong spicy, nutty smell with tinge of sweet chocolate. I loved it! Within an hour it smelled like playdough! Really strange reaction! Glad I only purchased a sample and didn’t cough up $165.00 to smell like a kid’s craft!

The dominant unsweetened cocoa note opening of Nez à Nez MARRON CHIC reminded me immediately of La Perla ECLIX. From there, the two diverge quite a bit, with MARRON CHIC drying down to a fine powdery floral iris and violet perfume with only a touch of gourmand feeling. I do not find this composition all that sweet, and I believe that the sweetness is more from the naturally sweet quality of violet than from added sugar or vanilla.
MARRON CHIC is a subtle creation, with a near skin-scent feeling once it has dried down. I like this perfume, but I think that I prefer ECLIX for my cocoa fix and INFUSION D’IRIS for a powdery iris.

On me it opened woody, without any chocolate or chestnut. A slight flowery note, but I could not tell what it was and after 10 mins it was gone.
The vetiver is there but subdued. As time passes it becomes quite dry and a bit of leather appears. A definitely male scent.
I see it on men 50+, self confident and with gentlemanly understatement.

I need to revise my original review! Which was written in the summer months; where I compared this fragrance to a tired old make-up case! Well, it’s autumn now and cold outside (time for my leather coats and fingerless mittens!) so I thought before I get rid of this let’s try it again!
I have to say the seasons have so changed this scent! It opens with a big blast of chestnuts and chocolate; in which I can really smell the chestnuts! Then it turns into a bitter, dark, almost pure chocolate (a rival at this point for Il Profvmo’s Chocolat) – after a couple of hours it mellows down to an almost honeyed, woody chestnut-chocolate scent (benzoin)! Maybe my nose has changed or it is just the seasons? I don’t get any of the florals at all in this!
I would still recommend testing before buying as it is a wickedly expensive mistake to make! I’ll use mine up this autumn – but I wouldn’t buy a replacement tbh – I’m just glad I didn’t have to go to all the hassle of selling this! This is definitely one for a cold, northern autumn/winter or a Christmas-season scent!

Marron (chestnut?) and that is what I seem to get at the start – chestnuts, chocolate (as someone said Tootsie Rolls), make-up case! It does start well and I thought if someone loved chestnuts they would like this – BUT – it changes and not in a fantastic way and reminds me of my old samsonite vanity case which I chucked cos of the stale make-up smell (after 20 odd years!) I then pick up a woody vetiver scent! I am sure this would smell good on the right person I just cannot think what kind of person that would be! It’s not unpleasant just a bit strange! Definitely not a spring or summer scent! Could be very xmassy in an eclectic way! There are better perfumes out there especially at that price!

One thing that has to be said about this one is that Marron Chic goes through quite a transformation within the few hours it’s there.
It starts off as a delicious gourmand- very chocolatey, sweet, thick, desserty, hmhmmhmh, really makes your appetite grow. And it is good quality chocolate as well, you can tell. Made me think of the lovely stores with Belgian pralines with so much choice it makes your head spin.
Then it becomes less and less like dessert, and the jasmin and violet note and iris are definitely what keep this scent going in the middle phase.
Finally, it settles as a floral-vetyver. This stage is very far from impressive. Not because it is calm, but because after the symphony of the first notes that makes the taste buds in your mind explode (figuratively speeking, of course) you would expect something more than a faint iris/jasmine presence. Nice, but not enough. Starts off very promising, the ending does not fulfill those expectations.

Marron Chic goes from lovely to weird. Not my typical perfume, but I’m sure on the right person it might smell nice.
Marron Chic starts really lovely, and somehow, I would say divine, which captures the essence of real life chocolate, chocolate boxes and roses. It’s like smelling a box of chocolate from a distance of 20-40cm, not too sticky sweet, but just right, with a touch of the fainted flower sweetness, as quite as a real life rose’s.
However, the weird notes comes just 5 minutes after. It’s like a woody, nutty infused Chanel No.5 Eau Premiere, which to me is ok to wear since I like Chanel No5 Eau Premiere. This makes me think of my mom’s makeup drawer back in the 90s. You can smell some fainted wood and a lot of slightly powdery, and European orientated ‘chic’ scent.
After a while, it smells like a much colder and faint-woodier unwelcoming version of Flower by Kenzo. Then sometimes it gets cleaner and closer to a cold and grown up version of baby powder, and sometimes, the dark, mean woody powder comes back for a while.
It’s really a weird combination. It smells like a sad love story. From head-over-heels excitment to dark sadness, aggressively dead and even a touch of weird depression. Not my cup of tea.

Smells like chocolate cherry leather. Totally not what i expected, I don’t like it. Im sure the labdanum is what creates the leather feel, but its not for me.
