Lovely spicy, fresh scent, in the way only Aesop can do.
If you like Aesop’s beautiful, earthy, herbal, pure essential oil products, this is the natural next step, to smell of them.
Fairly versatile, I like to wear it when I want a fresh scent with some warmth and depth.
    Very good.

I tested this today from a rather unusual sample presentation: a small sachet containing an impregnated cloth like a wet wipe. It smells like I accidentally tipped my spice rack over myself. Intense it certainly is to start with as it delivers a literally eye-watering blast of pure clove followed by a hint of cardomom. All the other notes recorded simply fail to materialise. If you have toothache this may be an expensive temporary cure otherwise it’s just an uncomposed mishmash of spices which, after the initial punch in the face rather leave the stage. If you like it it’s fairly reasonably priced though.

Delicious warm dry spice mix, though to me the opening is at least 75% juicy fresh ginger, not even listed here. It’s great, welcoming, expansive scent but performance not stellar on my skin (but then I was testing with one of those wretched wet wipes). Not as stellar as, say, Tauer L’Air du Desert Marocain – it’s more basic and workmanlike than that – but that’s the sort of feel you get- highly aromatic, sunlit, baking goodness. Like a pretty high-end hotel sandalwood/spice soap or lotion. Would happily wear any time but it doesn’t send me running to the shops or the web to buy a FB at full retail right now. If you’re a ginger nut, rush to test; if you’re an Arabian spice aficionado, try it when you can; otherwise, eesh, it’s not going to suddenly convert any spice-hater overnight. Very much to my taste, but nothing extraordinary.

The last fragrance that they had at the Aesop store that I could try was this – Marrakech Intense. The first part of the name definitely fits it, this fragrance evokes a feeling of a city next to a desert. More specifically, a souk filled with spice merchants, with an emphasis on selling these warm, yet aromatic cloves. I am not the biggest fan of this spice, but it is interesting. Marrakech Intense settles into a creamy sandalwood base, which I like more. I appreciate what Barnabe Fillion has created, but it is not something that I would consider wearing all the time (L’Air du Desert Morocain is a better choice for me, personally). The longevity was no better than their other two offerings, even if the notes used here are less volatile. I have to say, do sample this one, it is far less blind-buy worthy than Hwyl or Tacit.
P.S. The sales associate told me that there is a fragrance reveal coming in the near future, so keep an eye out.

Marrakech Intense starts out with a vivid coniferous green / spice accord. It’s like a fusion of crushed pine needles and freshly ground cardamom – very clean, very natural.
There’s an airy muskiness underpinning the greenery coming from the white florals and rose. The rose has fused beautifully so that it doesn’t dominate and it adds what I’d describe as a watery ‘liquid’ aspect to the scent. In the base, smooth sandalwood lays down a solid foundation.
The musk-like effect is reminiscent of Kiehl’s Original Musk, but with a generous helping of additional spices.
This is another authentic composition from Aesop. I prefer Marrakech Intense a great deal more than their Hwyl.
On only my second full sample wearing, I’m considering going full bottle. The only reservation I have is around staying power which is just average. For the asking price, I’d like a bit more longevity and presence.

    Update:
Just discovered this doesn’t only come as an EDT. There’s also a parfum concentration. I’m wearing this as I write and it’s lasting really well.

Opens very spicy and with a strong clove scent and settles to either jasmine or sandalwood 3 hours into it. I love it when its sandalwood and dislike when its jasmine.

I tried it on my skin today in Aesop shop inside Saks fifth avenue store. The opening was heavily floral which I think was from Rose/ Jasmine notes. It takes a relatively long time for the scent to settle to a point that sandalwood shows itself. In dry down it smells nice and has a familiarity to it which is because of the dominant floral/ sandal notes. Cloves and cardamom are clearly playing the support role and they are not dominant on my skin. It stays close to skin and longevity is average. It is well made and has quality ingredients, however, the scent is not a good match for my personal preferences.

    Reminds me of CdG white.

If you like the smell of North African market you’ll love this. The name says it all. I chose it partly because it’s so evocative of foreign climes, and here in the u.k we are heading for colder days. It’s heating. Once it’s on my skin it smells mainly of sandalwood and cardamom/cloves. It’s only been a few days since I bought it and I fear I could get sick of the cardamom/cloves elements. They are a bit rough.
It’s not a feminine perfume in the traditional sense and I’d be happy to wear it if I was a man!

I must admit I didn’t try this on my skin, as I was already sporting too many other samples today.
The young, knowledgeable and refreshingly sincere sales assistant kindly sprayed the fragrance onto cloth for me to sample. (The first time I had experienced this approach)
This is an impressive, modern, masterful and sophisticated fragrance. Unlike other reviewers, however, I found the cardamom to be just out-of-balance. A little like overdoing the vinegar in a salad dressing. Just a tad, but enough.
But that’s just me, I guess. Such a number of other reviews have found the cardamom note blend just right.
The other notes are high-calibre and luxurious. Take the time to explore it.

A very calm and centred woody floral. The rose, cardamom and sandalwood are all beautifully balanced. It reminds me of a more meditative and unisex version of Aromatics Elixir Perfumers Reserve. It definitely evokes the natural world- like the scent of wind blowing over tea tree and salt bush planted by the sea.

This fragrance is full of essential oils of clove, cardamon, bergamot, rose, jasmine, sandalwood and patchouli. For me, cloves don’t dominate as I think they’re kept in check by the cardamon and bergamot. I get more cardamon than cloves. The heart is truly gorgeous, not just an ‘oriental floral’ as described above but a truly rich spicy fragrance, evocative of religious rites. Luca Turin said of the original Marrakesh that it conjured up images of Egyptian mummification practices for him. This one reflects later Christian religious rites where flowers, incense oils and resins provide a delectable olfactory image.
This fragrance is rich but not overpowering (at least no on me). In hot, humid weather, it lingers and wafts delectably in the air. It’ll be interesting to experience it in colder weather.
Worth a try if you want a rich oriental floral that actually contains essential oils. Rich but not overpowering.

    ★★★
Aesop boutiques are lovely places in terms of aesthetic.
This fragrance is aromatic and smooth. Imagine an aromatherapy room at a spa. After a strong opening of cardamom it settles down to woody and clove notes that stay throughout and thats mostly what you’ll get. Rose gives it more sweetness and it’s detectable in the dry down,
Overall, even if it’s not my cup of tea, it’s a very good spicy oriental that surrounds the wearer with a mysterious aura, faraway enigmatic landscapes emerge and sacred paths form.
Appropriate for fall and maybe winter (although sillage is moderate) both day and night.

Hmmmmm …… It is spicy and original. Opening is somehow strong, but the scent settle down soon. Some cedar and spices splash after the first spray, but don’t scare and bear with it. after 5 minutes, it become all about cardamom and cloves. Later, the rose comes in and clove gets more timid. The smell of fresh and delicious cardamom forced me to buy this juice. However, I did not enjoy the dry down as much as I like the opening and mid. The performance of this fragrance is not really good on me. It last 4 to 5 hours and project maybe for 2 to 3 hours.
It is versatile fragrance, and can be worn in all seasons. However, I prefer to wear it in summer.
Not all people may savor it.
Despite its lower average performance on me, I love it and I would like to give some spice to my daily life routine with it. I feel envy to people who get better performance from this fragrance.

    Update:
It smells differently on me all times that I wear it. Sometimes I get only cardamon and sandalwood. It performance also varies day by day. Sometimes I get good 6-7 hours, sometimes it does last for couple of hours.

The outset is fixed with so much citruses and aromatics, that it’s actually hard to imagine this fragrance to have a woody base but it does. In this context, i guess you can call this a double agent of sorts. Somebody said something about this being a yoga class scent. I never thought about it that way but that’s about right. It’s a decent scent for the most part. In the community, this is well like but I wouldn’t go as far to say this is the best thing created since pants with pockets. Another one of those good but forgettable scents.

A beautiful, floral, aromatic, sandalwood perfume. Cardamom is intense, crisp and medicinal at first in the way that green cardamom pods are, followed by a bit of clove and smooth, ambered woods. I was hoping for masala chai spices, and that is precisely what I got. It continuously blooms on my skin. I also notice petit grain and a pinch of jasmine in addition to the wood and spice.
Sillage was very good for about 6 hours, then it became more of a skin scent, a beautiful one that retained its complexity for 12+ hours. The sandalwood became strongest or most noticable in the drydown, and it smelled dark and silky-smooth.
Marrakesh Intense is similar in style to L’Air du Desert Marrocain–dry and woody with aromatic spices and an ambery, incensy base. Marrakesh Intense, specifically, takes me back to the days and nights I spent in the Outback. I guess it is the dryness of the perfume that reminds me of the landscape.
I kept coming back to this perfume over and over again, so I finally caved in and purchased it. There is nothing else quite like it. It is loaded with spice, yet it is remakably pleasant. A winner.

I tried this today and was pretty disappointed. It smells like a cross between Listerine original formula mouthwash and clove oil. Weak longevity as well.

yup. i like this one better than the oil, i must say…the cardamom and cloves are much more restrained and don’t overpower the scent. the sandalwood is heavenly. can’t quite tell if it’s australian or mysore, but it’s smooth, creamy and works well. i may or may not detect the cedar wood, but overall this scent is smooth. very like.
