I’m afraid my experience with this one was the opposite to that of Gigi. I should have realised: Majestic Rose / Sa Majesté la Rose… I did not enjoy the Lutens rose either.
This one starts off rather nicely, as a very light, almost fruity fragrance. Sweet and cheerful. I was just thinking what a nice contrast it made to the jammier roses in my collection, when I was hit by a note…and I have not yet identified what it is…that makes me feel ill immediately. I am sure that as the fragrance developed it would have become beautiful, but this made it a scrubber for me straight away.
I am sorry. To start with it almost reminded me of Lipstick Rose, which I love, not so much in the actual fragrance but in the atmosphere it creates. Then again, I don’t need another Lipstick Rose…

FRAGRANCE REVIEW FOR MAJESTIC ROSE BY MERCHANT OF VENICE
Notes: Rose
Very similar to Sa Majeste La Rose by Serge Lutens, only softer and more subdued. There are missing notes that are not listed. I detected a touch of rosewater and aquatic notes, aldehydes (but not strong aldehydes) honey and sandalwood. This is a delicious full bodied rose scent. Because of that fragrant sandalwood it smells like an Oriental rose perfume. It gives it the right edge. It’s elegant, regal, unisex and glamorous. I’ve spent some of my money on Merchant of Venice fragrances and I’ve never been disappointed. They do smell like vintage perfumes, and they each have a bit of an Oriental flair. This is a very powerful rose so one spritz is enough. It’s appropriate for evening wear in winter time.
