First off, what a pretty shaped bottle! The scent itself is rather unique……Generally speaking, this probably would not be appreciated in today’s sugar bomb and fruity/floral patchouli world. This is not a cookie cutter fragrance. It is quite lovely. A definite vintage, classic, classy smell to this and look about this bottle. As someone said, it is charming. Mainly a yellow floral with a slight white floral background player. A touch of sweetness for good measure, but not the little girl candy bomb sweetness; a grown up woman sweetness. Side note: Very comfortable in the hands to spray (which my bad wrists appreciate). This one’s definitely a like for me! ❤️

Very classic. Clean floral. I like it.
Anyway, I don’t get much vanilla. Not sweet, not powdery. Just clean flowers.

When I read the notes and description of Marilyn Miglin’s Magic, I am so charmed. The notes sound amazing. I have a few bottles of this, and I recognize that it’s a classic for many Miglin fans.
I get the flowers, but the other notes are difficult to sort out.
Magic is powerful and tends to transform over time. I don’t get much vanilla, but there is something sweet that might be the plum/mimosa.
There’s something medicinal in Magic that I find distracting. I noticed geranium in the notes. That could be it. But I still like it, and I am not giving up on it. I’ve purchased older and newer bottles and even tried the pure parfum.
If you want a distinctive fragrance that is like no other, and something that would have been the queen of the 80s powerhouse florals, then give this a try. Just step into a spritz of it. You’ll have it wafting around you all day long.

Magic is heady, but light. Notes of clean laundry intertwine with a bracing greenness with an undercoat of awkward seduction. I find this one really brightens up in warm weather, though in broad daylight this might be a bit cloying. Magic is a very relaxing, romantic smell. And this is one of very few perfumes I have ever smelled with a mimosa note that actually doesn’t dominate the entire composition. The mimosa in Magic is turned down and not as syrupy…it lends a light sweetness, a gentleness to the whole powerhouse effect, as a natural mimosa would.
This is nice, it’s very complex. The first spray reminded me of Giorgio Beverly Hills – if that gives one any idea of the strength and presence. But this is a little bit more nuanced, more complex. In the era of Giorgio and Poison, this was for the powerhouse lover who was a little bit more down to earth. Magic is big, but she is also laid back and approachable.

This is making me think of Windsong for some reason. All of the notes are blended very well and I am really not able to smell one above the other.

Love it…It is sexy and I just keep smelling my own arm. I like to wear this to bed when it is cold outside. 😉

Thanks for the review, Violet.est.bleue!
You are so right. Marilyn Miglin didn’t DO simple or light. From what I’ve observed, she definately majored in powerhouse perfume. 🙂

Confession: I love watching the Home Shopping Network. That’s how I discovered Marilyn Miglin years ago. Upon many viewings of Marilyn and research on the HSN website, I decided to order Magic. I’m glad I did. Magic reminds me of 1980s power florals… in a good way. It’s a sparkly, strong, seductive floral without the oft-accompanying spices, amber, patchouli, or animalic notes. Magic is not simple or light, however, so spray with caution.
