Madame Rochas Rochas for women of Rochas

Share:

Description

Madame Rochas first appeared in 1960 and reappeared in 1989 in its second edition. The nose behind this perfume is Guy Robert, who put aldehydes, bergamot, lemon and neroli at the top. The middle notes are flowery: jasmine, rose, tuberose, Lily-of-the-valley, Oriss root, ylang-ylang, violet and narcissus, whilst the base touches us with sandalwood, vetiver, musk, along with the accords of cedar, oakmoss and tonka beans.
First edition represents a replica of an 18th century bottle and is signed by Madam Rochas herself. The new edition package was designed by Pierre Dinand and is available in 30, 50 and 100 ml edt.

Yep, very vintage smelling. Can’t really even detect individual notes, this is just an old-time fragrance smell. Probably not crowd-friendly nor office safe. At times I pick up an old-time hairspray, not any of the more “modern” hairsprays that smell fruity or perfumy, but the “old time” hairsprays that reeked of a very synthetic alcohol and lingered in the air hours after spraying.
Not saying this is a bad fragrance, just..very vintage smelling. I usually like vintage fragrances, but I can’t quite hit the like button with this one..but I also won’t hit the dislike button. Meh!!

I worn this nice perfume back in the eightiz, I had a big bottle, and I liked it. Possible, I will buy another bottle today, if the price is good 🙂

This is what a parfum smells like. If you grew up in the ‘60s and ‘70’s and your mother’s generation of women were elegantly dressed ladies who went to cocktail parties, wore red lipstick, played bridge and chain smoked Sobranies, this is what they smelt like.
Sexy Chypre, maybe without the knock out impact of the original but the current EDP is still true to the 60’s version.
Sensuous and powdery, mysterious and impossibly feminine, and altogether accessible… I can’t imagine anyone not liking this beauty. If you like Paloma, Caleche, or the original Miss Dior, you will like this. It doesn’t have the spicy notes found in the other Rochas vintage, Femme.

THIS!!! This just may be my favorite vintage green/chypre/aldehyde!
Yes, it smells like vintage Miss Dior EDT, vintage Givenchy III…. but this has it all. The aldehydes I want, the vintage dust, the greens, the florals… its like a very green vintage Chanel No. 5 cologne or No. 5 meets Guerlain’s Vol de Nuit. (VdeN started my obsession with vintage greens/woods)
This is perfect. I don’t know the time frame of my bottle, I got it off ebay without a box (EDT), but I’m thrilled! THIS IS THE one I’ve been looking for!
Also like a green L’Aimant (Coty).
    This is so good.

Madame Rochas pure parfum, adorable straight columnar vintage bottle, frosted patterned glass, gold trim on the bottom, gold screw cap lid with gold beading at the collar and top, 1/6 oz. I feel it’s important to provide a physical description so that reviewers have an accurate idea of the formulation at hand.
Truly this parfum is powerful, but it speaks in whispers in an even tone, well metered with beautiful words of feminine strength.
Predominantly, I detect aldehyde and silky powdered orris that create a dense cloud effect. And the oakmoss is stunning in this composition, woody and softly permeating throughout the cloud and somewhat miasmic. The quality and masterfully gentle orchestration of oakmoss really gives this woody integrity without the dark dryness as some formulations with this note often do.
Iris, narcissus and hyacinth in relatively equal measure are the most obvious flowers at the top, hazy, tinged with pastel violet and green at the edges of this dense billowy white cloud, softened with the romance of subtle rose and a gentle beckon of ylang ylang. The white blossoms add a cleanness to the floral harmony where there are absolutely no sharp edges, no laundry detergent, no hairspray.
Madame Rochas parfum has somewhat of a clean musky finish, but again, dense, not cheap and wan like some modern musk formulations. Some might tag this as soapy or powdery, I suppose it depends how you associate with that clean, warm cuddly accord.
As most parfums do, despite their density, this finishes rather flat and is relatively linear but with great scent. The longevity is fantastic and the quality is solid. Demure, sophisticated, self assured, clean, timeless.

I love Caléche and this is like sister of it. Very, very similar scent. It was even difficult for me to recognize them for a while. As I love Caléche it is a nice surprise for me. Definitely very elegant and easy to wear chypre perfume. It has the class and distinction of a Chanel fragrance. Simply glorious for that price.

Wow, bought a sample based on reviews here as didn’t want to risk wasting money if it turned out to be a “stinker” and just want to say THANK YOU!
Will be buying a full bottle – there was a gap in my fragrance wardrobe for a classy /more mature and elegant fragrance , not something every other person would wear and this fragrance filled it for sure!
    Now for the review.
In the beginnig I smelled alcohol and a generic old fashioned cologne , but in a few minutes and that’s all it takes on my skin this beauty turns 360 degrees to something sweeter and spiciness/woody that tickles your nose, some creamy notes come out to play
whilst staying clean and fresh at the same time.
This stays close to the skin , maybe an arms lenghth and radiates this aura of gentle and spicy womanly skin. Could be used by a man for sure because of the spiciness of it.
Love this, elegant a gorgeous, best suited for Autumn or late summer as it evokes the trees and leaves in the autumn season.

I wish all Madame Rochas fans will keep this information in their minds, that all the notes and ingredients mentioned on Fragrantica are of the Original MadameRochas. The recent new bottles are made of ACCORDS of those notes… thats why the old ones smells complexed and 4dimensional, even if they are old and affected negatively by the time. I have both formulas, but that doesn’t mean the new is bad,no, it is wearable and nice, but it is kind of INSPIRED by the original, and it is very similar also, not a totally new perfume.

This perfume can be an unisex in my opinion.
Aldehydes and kolnisch notes are main. As well much more notes here, really complex one. But as all togehter 1 composition it gives me this impression of smell man can use it too.
Its a big floral, bouquet rich and big like hair in 80ties and 90ties.

Classic chypre heavier on the aldehydes, light and nice to wear, not as woody as most chypres. The florals are not distinct but combine with the other notes well. The musk and violet rise in the drydown at the bottom as things get more powdery. Not too bitter. Fresh. I have the vintage EDC but it lasts. This was an arm’s reach scent at first but seven hours later, I can smell it as a soft, powdery skin scent. I like this.

This was a blind buy after reading the reviews here. I’ve been getting acquainted with a few classic scents lately, and have discovered a fondness for aldehydes, which I naively dismissed in my younger years.
Like someone else mentioned, I don’t get a ton of aldehydes from this, but no matter; it’s still a beautiful scent. To me it’s like a very dry wine; I get no sweetness, no flowers or fruits. I smell lots of fresh, green notes with a strong woody base. MR is clean, but not overly soapy. I like wearing it to work as it’s not a silage bomb, and it makes me feel capable and sophisticated. It’s easy to layer, if you’re so inclined; I’ve layered it with China Rain oil (to add some sweet soapiness); and Nabeel’s King of Santal (to give it some extra longevity, as it’s already very woody). Both were very successful and added more facets to this gem of a juice. Highly recommended if you are interested in classic fragrances, clean/herbal scents, or are just tired of all the sugar/gourmand offerings these days.
(The bottle I bought is a new, non-vintage formulation.)

Wow! I used a lot of Madame Rochas when I was a child and in my teens, in the 60s/70s. It was an aldehydic white floral scent which ended in an amber/vetiver base. it started very bright with aldehydes and lemon transitioned to a white floral with jasmine , honeysucle and orange flower as main notes but still cristalline due to the remaining aldehydes lemon and gradually became a bit sweeter and darker due to the amber/vetiver and a bit of oakmoss. My father thought this was adequate to a child (I always lovd perfumes) and I lived Madame Rochas and Femme and continued wearing MR through my teens till it became unavailable in Brazil. Sillage was soft yet noticeable (not a skin scent) and lasted for a whole day (in that days this was par for the course, perfumes did last the whole day), though not as long as Femme. It was a bright, uplifting scent that made yoyr day.

I wanted an aldehydic fragrance, so based on so many reviews comparing this to other great aldehydic fragrances, I went on and purchased this one blindly. Now, this one was not a successfull blind-buy. Don’t get me wrong, the fragrance is good, elegant and ladylike, but it is not what I thought it would be.
The Madame Rochas I got starts very green (it brings to mind Dioressence and to a lesser extent, the opening of Jacomo Silences); honestly, I don’t get much aldehydes. Five minutes later, the green opening calms though it still has some similarities with the current Dioressence, but with a good dose of powder and some faint soapiness; smelled from a distance, it has a similar vibe to other aldehydic perfumes (but does not smell like any of them, and I can still smell the similarities with the greener scents), well-groomed with a touch of glamour.
Based on other reviews and what I found on the internet, I think Madame Rochas has been reformulated once again since 1989 – if I recall it correctly, Interparfums bought the brand Rochas from P&G last year, and I can imagine they also changed the formula.

This is not really a review but I hope you do not mind. My mother and my grandmother wore this in the 70ies when I was a child and I still remember the scent from their powder and lipstick as they were dressing in their beautiful dresses and stiletto heels. I have not smelled Madame Rochas for more than 30 years and I was curious to see if the scent was the same.
The bottle arrived today and I immediately spritzed some on to my wrist. Yes, the dna is there. Not as strong as I rememer, but yes. I would recognize, not only this scent but also the feeling, anywhere. Exitement, laughing voices and my mother running around trying to find something that always seemed to be missplaced.
For me this was the scent of large family gatherings, weddings and new years eve. During the last minutes before they put their coats on, they would pritz MR on their pulse points and leave for the waiting car. And I was left in an enchanted world of beauty, imagening how I would wear this parfume and beautiful dresses one day too.
Well now I do and it still makes me smile and dream.

Seems ultra powdery but actually has a lot more going on once the musk comes through. I agree that it is a fantastic budget buy. I like to layer it with SJP’s Lovely to give the latter a bit of a woody, animalic edge. They work surprisingly well together!

I was 15 years old and working for the first time in a real job. My first paycheck was 110 dollars and in 1975, that was a big deal. I remember clearly going to the more posh mall in town, ordering a coffee in a french type cafe, sipping from the white china and revelling in my first real shopping with my own real money. OMG, I bought Lord of the rings Trilogy and the Hobbit books, Cezanne nail polish in some frosted mushroom colour, Aziza twin eye shadows in turquoise and teal, and…my first perfume….Madame Rochas. I had never smelled it before that day, but the lady at the store said that many people liked it, so I tried it, and I loved it too. If you dont like loud big sweet perfume, you may like this one. Never ever have I enjoyed a purchase as much as that. Miss the old days.

I still think that Madame ( 1960 Version ), is the most beautifull and elegant Lady in the World.
Monsieur Guy Robert created the most beautifull fragrance of all time with Madame.

Chanel no 5 EDT with green notes amped only slightly though. THE CLOSEST DUPE IVE SEEN of the EDT. Its also a less harsh caleche soie de parfum. Very high quality for such a low price point.

This is very soapy and harsh for me. It was a blind buy but i am starting to realise that aldehydes are not my thing…i was thinking of using a spritz for work but i find it too annoying to bear. I can smell fracas all day long without any headache or other issues but this…i just can’t.
Not sure about the vintage version, but the new one smells on me like woods freshly painted with wood lacquer.

Vintage Madame Rochas is an aldehydic floral bouquet with some sandalwood. It’s elegant, classy and very luxurious. I picture the Horse Race Scene in My Fair Lady, women in outrageous hats and beautiful dresses. In some ways this was a precursor to First by Van Cleef and Arpels. This is a day time spring scent of flowers: violets, hyacinth, narcissus, tuberose, jasmine, rose and lily of the valley. So very floral. There is lemon and citric notes at the top and sandalwood at the base and to my nose this smells exactly as a good traditional perfume should smell. Classic, elegant and feminine. I would not call this one unisex because of all the flowers but if you’re a guy and you wanna smell of flowers why not try this. This is a flower power fragrance. I love to spray it in the air as well. The old formula is still available on ebay and the new formula is not bad but it’s less intense and the flowers are less intense because of a vanilla note.

Madame Rochas is absolutely beautiful with natural sandalwood oil on skin. Makes it softer and sweeter and lasts all day. wow, heaven!
I have the newest formula EDT (I don´t know the vintage) and if I find any similarity with some other perfume, then it might be L´Aimant or Jovan Musk Oil – it is very musky floral.
Cabochard is too bitter and cutting.
Climat, as far as I remember, is too green and fresh.
Caléche, that I love, is a bar of soap with a lot of lemon zest, but it is true that the dry down smells similar to Madame (both very soapy, Madame with musk, Caléche with citron)
And No. 19 is too green and sweet with the carrot-like iris/powder.
Madame Rochas is the softest of all these, or it´s dry down. The musky-aldehyde opening has kind of suffocating effect, especially for perfume beginners, I would guess. But on the other hand – we all know the beautiful smell of fresh clean bed sheets.
I am very nostalgic person, so I love Madame Rochas, for the elegance, the smell of clean beddings, sandalwood and lots of baby powder.

Madame Rochas is a great vintage perfume with a complex history. It seems clear that there are at least two versions being reviewed here. (There is a separate listing for a third, 2013 version.) As usual, reviews for the different versions are jumbled, with few indications as to which version is being described. Some reviewers find continuity between the versions; others say they are completely different.
The original version of Madame Rochas appeared in 1960. It was reportedly designed by Guy Robert according to a brief supplied by Helene Rochas that he make something along the lines of No. 5 and Arpege. The 1960 Madame Rochas is an exquisitely elegant, ladylike aldehydic floral with beautifully blended jasmine, rose, and, to my nose, more white flowers and LOTV than vintage No. 5 and Arpege. Madame Rochas feels more spring-like, crisp, and soapy than the other grand dames but there is no sharpness at all in the scent; rather, there is an underlying warmth and softness that I attribute to the wonderful quality of the rose and sandalwood The 1960 version is the only Madame Rochas I have, in both parfum and EDP.
The newer Madame Rochas was launched in 1989 and was designed by Jean-Louis Sieuzac and Jacques Fraysse. I am not familiar with this version, but from what I can piece together from reviews, the 1989 version is more hesperidic and greener than the 1960 version. The 1989 Madame Rochas reminds people of No. 19, Climat, Dioressence, and even Cabochard (!) so just from these comparisons, I am going to infer that the two versions of Madame Rochas must really be quite different, because I can’t imagine anyone thinking the 1960 version smells like these other scents.
The flared columnar bottle remains relatively consistent, so your best guides are the boxes. The 1960 Madame Rochas packaging features a brownish gold and undeniably dated brocade motif. The parfum presentation is covered in actual fabric, and the paper boxes are printed with a similar design. If you want the 1960 version, you have to search for the gold brocade packaging. The 1989 version comes in white boxes and is much more widely available.

Definitely not a scent of today’s trend .. and I Like it! Madame Rochas is a perfume in the true to classics way. It is mature first. Nothing playful or sexy about this one. Madame Rochas is smart, cultured and calm. Light ~ not an attacking aldehyde. It’s dry but far from talc. It’s dry like flowers that have been set out and aren’t in full bloom, rather fully settled in a maximum aroma. There is something unique here. It’s a bouquet but a bouquet found in the woods, not on a table. Madame Rochas is round and doesn’t fade quickly on me. Soft but I smell it clearly hours after applying it before bed last night. This is a scent from another time and that is a bonus for me. Sure, I have some sweet gourmand now .. because one day, those too will be a past trend. I prefer these Madame Rochas fumes. You have to know yourself and perfume to appreciate and wear this one. It stands the test of time and I’m glad to have it as a male who has also stood the tests of time. Maybe that is what is needed to succeed with Madame Rochas.

I had read the reviews for Madame Rochas, and always adoring this type of fragrance, I looked for a buy from TJM or Marshall’s where I know I had seen bottles previously. But, there were none to be found anymore. So I went to a pharmacy in my city that carries a huge line of perfumes, current and old classics, and asked for a small sample of this scent. I’m absolutely in love with Madame Rochas, as from first dab it has given off the loveliest scent. As the details of the notes have already been discussed and reviewed in many of the reviews, I’ll just say that there is something so captivating about this type of fragrance, which I love. It breathes maturity, sophistication, class, style, and opens up more and more as it settles onto and into your skin. The next morning, there is still that faint, beautiful scent right on your wrists to wake up to. It’s interesting that the comparisons to YSL Rive Gauche and Caleche have been noted in other’s reviews. Wouldn’t you know I have and love both, and have worn YSL RG since high school when I was knocked over by the lovely, distinct scent when another girl walked by and it just trailed after her?
So many reviews by other lovers of the Fragrantica website are reminiscent of the past…the rich fragrances, elegant clothing, Italian handbags and shoes that weren’t mass produced, and the allure of the real woman. How different today’s styles, as in “if you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all!!” Cheap sleeveless short dresses (even if it’s 20 degrees out!), huge chunky necklaces of ugly metal and chintzy plastic, the clunky shoes with straps half way up the shin that look like roman warrior (or slave) boots, and what’s with the chopped off hair with the fake curls and a ton of stiff goo??? Not to mention why we’re even on this great website, the fragrances….How many new scents (?) are launched each week to be pushed on shoppers in the department store cosmetic aisles that smell all the SAME. I tried 3 new ones last week and by the time I got out the door, they all smelled EXACTLY the same (some kind of citrusy junk), and lasted about 30 minutes. I couldn’t tell one from the other. Totally mass produced scents, purses (oh, gag if I see another Coach or MK flooding every store).
So carry on, lovers of the beautiful, and keep upholding the wonderful scents, clothing, and elegance of our world.

Along with my new tea obsession I’m also testing every floral aldehyde I can get my paws on!  Very important though that there’s no civet mixed with the aldehyde, I just can”t do that combo.
My bottle from 2010 is gorgeous!  So many notes, but, I make out aldehydes for sure, sandalwood, powder, oakmoss, narcissus and iris.  What a perfect classic combination!  I’m in love with this, I think it will be extra lovely come fall!

This is perfection, it’s very feminine and has that addictive note that makes me want to constantly sniff it.

It’s a beautiful aromatic, classy, very expensive smelling scent.

I feel like I must have French blood….Madame Rochas is absolutely another Rochas masterpiece. It stands alone in its formulation however here is my way of relating this perfume to another famous Rochas…Madame Rochas is to spring and summer to what Femme Rochas is to fall and winter. It is glorious! I must say however, if you do not like aldehydes that come in the form of perfumes like Chanel No.5..you may want to skip this one.
Don’t save your fine perfume for special occasions…everyday is a special occasion if you so choose…AGC

My bottle looks like the one in the pic above and not the 2013 bottle. I am guessing it still contains genuine oakmoss. Score! This is a very grownup fragrance. You’ll gag on the initial spritz but oh boy, after a few minutes it settles into a lovely pungent floral ideal for autumn. I think I might wear this through winter too. The dry down is beautiful. I do not detect tonka bean on my skin, which I am pleased about. (Oscar’s Volupte contains too much tonka for my liking.) Good sillage and good projection. Apply with a light hand!

I just got Madame Rochas edt via mail today…so excited! I got Muse de Rochas set with lotion as blind buy a couple of years ago and absolutely love it so I wanted to try another fragrance from the House of Rochas…I read the reviews and thought that I would like…when I first sprayed on…yikes!!! But wait…thanks to the review from ELYELY on 4/9 I was patient…like her, I was initially turned off by the first whiff, it smelled like it had turned or gone bad. It’s been about an hour now and it’s turning into something very nice…IMO it’s not something that would appeal to a teenager, at least not one like me when I was younger but I’m now 50 and am drawn to scents that I wasn’t years ago, obviously….that’s life. It’s a mature and sophisticated fragrance that I would wear in cooler weather and/or evenings…I’m sure that I’ll enjoy this.
    Edit several hours later:
Ok, honesty earlier I was a little nervous because not sure if I was feeling it…tried again and much better…maybe the first squirts got the funk out…
Thanks elyely, your review was especially helpful and came at the perfect time.I highly recommend Muse de Rocha also…very different scent and get lots of complaients….My Madame Rochas is smelling fantastic now!!!
Thanks for everyone’s reviews, all have been very helpful.
What I would consider to be very French.

I do not know what to say. I am blown away. I have got this fragrance for about 2 years and did not want to wear it at all…it was a blind buy and I felt really regretful about it. When I firstly spray it onto my skin I could not stand the pungent aldehyde smell…it was too plastic and weird. Today I gave it another last try (I was determined to getting rid of the bottle).
Spritz…..wait…..wait…. OMG!!! The dry down is such a beautiful smell, I cannot stand the first 20 minutes but after that it turns out into a soft, warm, creamy and velvety smell…..to die for.
The trick with this one is to let it settle down, give it sometime…and then it reveals itself in the most delicate and classy way a perfume can.
I am so happy I kept my bottle…I am planning to fully enjoy it this winter…

Received the perfume as a very grown up gift when i was 12 years old. I knew then that it was destined for me as I grew older. For me, Madame Rochas has retained its magic. What a wonderful gift bestowed upon me. My original perfume(vintage;as am I),was a deeply woodsy, complex elixir. To some the scent is innocent. To me, Madame distills the experience of a womanly lifetime. She is the epitome of wisdom, grace, an appreciation of a life well lived. What appears as inno scent and even simple, belies the heart of a sensual, and sensous magician

Probably the classiest perfume I’ve ever smelt, Madame is that special weapon I keep for important occasions like job interviews, exams or formal gatherings. The eldest sister of Amouage Gold and Hermes Caleche, she is a dame that travels in the first class and is constantly surrounded by the finest things in her life. Luxurious is not even enough to describe this beauty. Polished from head to toes, Madame is a lady that embodies pedigree and refinery thanks to aldehydes mixed with an air of woodiness. Slightly animalic notes add a sensual side to somewhat reserved poise of Madame. I dread to think of a day it might disappear…

If you are looking for a vintage, this frag is for you! I was curious about it, because of my grandma and mom. The first one is a great fan of Madame Rochas and the second one hates it. So I had to check this out for myself. Well, Madame Rochas goes straight to my likes. It’s soapy at the beginning, then it settles down surprisingly good on my skin. It’s powerful indeed, but if I have to compare it with Femme, which I also own, this one is a tender whisper. The drydown is lovely – creamy and powdery at the same time ylang-ylang, violet and amber. It’s perfect for a walk in cold weather and my boyfriend enjoys the scent, when I wear it.
UPDATE: The drydown reminds me of Lancome’s Attraction, maybe bacause of the iris. Actually both perfumes share several notes.

This fragrance starts with a burst of honeysuckle and orange blossom, thick and sweet. Surprisingly, it then lightens to a fresh, clean lemon, though this quickly gives way to white florals which grow more powdery with time. The lemon never really disappears, though, and it slowly re-emerges, blended with the drydown of musk , sandalwood and tonka bean. Quite beautiful.

    Holy smokes! This is powerful…
Tiniest drop of the EDP and I am singing with the angels. Vintage all the way, strong green aldehydes for a loooooong wait. Then huge floral and wood notes all mixed together. Ylang ylang, iris and sandalwood comingling with bitter vetiver. This is huge, green, earthy. Not for the faint hearted a little goes a long way. Huge sillage and longevity. Powders down like the other classics quite heavily so when it dries. Almost a medicinal bitterness from the cedar, oakmoss and vetiver. I am not sure about this one. She is all powerful and consuming.

One incredibly beautiful lady- Madame Rochas. It is a balm on my soul, I would agree with veda here, who once said its like Orthodox Church smells, pity no one else in reviews ever mentioned that, but, on the contrary, people tend to write on strong incenses  – ” its just like an Orthodox Church smells!”, for example John Galliano which is…noooo way smells as a Church, but more like Belle Watling’s brothel
Anyway, yep, that’s how service (oinments, oils, etc) in Orthodox Church truly smells like, giving you peace and returning dignity
Reassuring smell, confident, but warm, made from definitely natural flower oils. Its a life in a bottle.

Shame on all you large French Perfume Houses that never stepped in to help or save the Perfume House Of Rochas!! Why O why was this allowed to happen? Rochas used to produce sum really beautiful classic fragrances (Madame Rochas) being one off my all time favourit perfumes off all time!! & I feel really angry & sad that Rochas is indeed no more!! What a real shame that sure a wonderful Perfume House was allowed to be flushed down the drain like this!! “RIP MADAME ROCHAS PERFUME” alas the final curtain has fallen on your wonderful act!! Firstly, I own the recent EdT, which has sat on my shelf for a good while. Secondly, I am only 18 years old and feel like this perfume aims for an older audience. Thirdly, I’m pretty new to the perfume scene so please take this review with a grain of salt (or sugar, hehe).
On me, at first it’s very soapy before transitioning into a sweet floral that is just a tad powdery. My mom owns the original parfum, and I can definitely smell the top, middle and base notes better in the original then the newer toilette. It’s an incredible scent, one that brings up fond memories whenever I smell it. I feel like I’m 8 again and I’m sitting in the back seat of our Toyota car on our way to a restaurant, cuddled up to mom since my brother next to me is hogging all the space again. It’s classic and smells elegant in a more daily way, like a woman in her 40’s or 50’s casually yet gracefully doing some mundane chores. I think it wouldn’t be out of place in a fancier setting though, I could see this on an impeccably coiffed beauty on a dinner date at a fancy restaurant any day.
I think this perfume is a little ageless, as anyone can wear it with the youngest at least… 17? I think you’d make many a person do a double take though, and that the younger you are the lighter it has to go, maybe even under your clothes, especially if you’re in high school. With the younger crowd it’s more of a “special occasions” scent rather than a “I’m shopping at a mall” scent but an older woman in her late 30’s could easily pull it off as a daily scent.
Personally, I like this scent but it’s quite hard for me to wear and it’s very easy to accidentally spray too much. However, I do hope to eventually grow into this perfume as I get older, it’s such a comforting scent to me that I would cry if I was unable to wear it when older.

I too like so many folks here scour the listings searching for Madame Rochas in the now elusive stronger concentrations, I was lucky to have found a couple of the eau de parfum 100 ml. natural ‘demo’ sprays last year, these bottles have the beaded gold collars around the neck just below the vapo’ button/cap whereas the eau de toilette atomiser is all glass. This time frame (1995-2000) marked the end of production for this potent eau de parfum reorchestration (
