Truly smells like vanilla but also it’s a headache in a bottle! Wear it if you’re going to be outdoors – I think it’s too intense indoors.

I use it to layer perfumes that are not sweet enough for me, but like them in general. Right now I am layering Aurore Nomade from The Diffterent Company. Otherwise it would be too masculine, vanilla makes it softer.

This is a great one of something sweetie and yum!! Vanilla is the main like its name mix with sensual Frangipani. For me this is greater than I expect from the body shop,I was like instant crush for this. Not regular vanilla sweetie but in a high class way of sweet scent. I feel it sensual, romantic, casual and relax enough to use when you have to see some cute guys or walking to see sunset at the beach.
Longevity is great on me it’s like 6 hours (I’m a kind of oily skin) and it’s not too strong if you’re not too over spray and I found out men are crazy this sweet little bottle. Impressive!!

A different & not-your-usual vanilla. The lotion is even nicer. Glad I have these since I don’t see it around anymore. Definitely vanilla-ish with an interesting twist. Not heavy.

For me, this fragrance was a bit too strongly vanilla – it is a good quality vanilla, not a cheap or synthetic one, however it is very one-note. I used to wear this as my everyday fragrance a few years ago and tired of it pretty quickly. I’d recommend wearing it sparingly because the vanilla can get very overwhelming.

I loved this when I smelt it, but it’s so weak! However if I knew it’d be gone now, I would have bought it.

Smells a lot like hypnotic poison sensuelle, minus the powder. And has more creamy freshness.
This is very pretty but unfortunatly, the air freshener at work smells a lot like this
which put me off this scent.

The vanilla was too sweet for me , but it’s still smell fresh . because the floral notes . It kinda remind me of vanilla frosting XD

This did not work for me, not when smelling it and not when wearing it. It almost made me feel a bit sick. I found the scent to have a very strong honey character on me and it did not meld well with my skin chemistry or style. For lounging at the beach with sunkissed skin I bet this would work very well, if one is so inclined.

Unfortunately, it’s discontinued ,but it’s been soon replaced by the classic “Body Shop Vanilla”in new flankers!

I love frangipini and I am not a fan of vanilla. I really like this one even though the vanilla dominates here. On me it is not really similar to Hypnotic Poison, but it reminds me a little bit of Alien Assence Absolute. Longevity is good.

This is one vanilla fragrance that i can´t see working on winter. i tried it, but i think everything on it screams “Beach!”.It would be perfect to wear for a lazy afternoon at the beach, reading a book. this is really nice and exotic. would make a super summer fragrance for women who don´t like citrus or otherwise fresh fragrances. it is really feminine and sensual. reminds me a bit of Coconut Passion from VS, althrough it has no coconut in it.
Safe gift, good for all ages.

This is a fisty vanila, spicy, woods with a hit of amber. It is a sexy NOT safe vanilla scent and can pass as a unisex.
    Skin Type: oily
    Office safe: if sprayed lightly
    Potency: moderate
Timing: all year long / anytime of the day
Projection: arms’ length if applied lightly
    Longevity: 6hrs
Price: about $ 10 at TJMaxx for 100ml perfume with 100ml lotion
Packaging: 8/10 comes in a cute gift box
Note: the lotion smells horrible and nothing like the perfume
    Will I Repurchase: undecided
Disclaimer: my experience may be different from your experience based on my skin type, my chemistry, the season, and my personal tastes

Just like everyone says, this is a softer, lighter variation of Hypnotic Poison. It has a citrus twist and is great for hot weather due to its weak strength.
    I have the spray form.

I got the mini edt of MVF and tried wearing it severaltimes hoping it would grow on me but ended up giving it away. It’s not a bad scent and I might prefer the body spray if I ever tried it (I tend to like scents that linger but don’t suffocate). There is a smoky musky note that reminds me of women I knew in the late 80s-early 90s that smoked heavily and then doused themselves in dark musky perfumes. Maybe they all wore dior poison as everyone suggests this smells like and I’m just imagining the cigarette note!

I just found this at Marshalls, and I really like it. Mine is a glass 3.3 oz. bottle of fragrance mist. I think it’s lighter than an EDT, but it’s still nice. I passed it up the first time I found it, but kept noticing it wafting around me. Next time I saw it, I bought it. It’s really, really nice. My daughter bought the other in this line, Indian Midnight Jasmin, and it’s super nice too. I’m now wondering if they have these scents in the EDT version. I may be off to ebay to find them.

I am not a vanilla person, but for some reason this scent appeals to me. The reason is amber. I am an amber whore. Got this in a 50ml for $18 Au which is a bargain.

I would describe this as a cool vanilla-what an oxymoron! To me it certainly doesn’t smell or feel warm but it is sweet, floral and fresh. If you are looking for that gourmand vanilla of your dreams, this won’t be it (that is how I stumbled upon Madagascan Vanilla flower, I knew by the name and bottle it wasn’t what I was looking for but it smelled nice anyway). I bought a bottle and have grown very fond of it, it’s very different from other vanillas. It is feminine and floaty, makes me think of somewhere in the South Pacific wearing a long white dress with frangipani flowers in my hair (not that I have been anywhere like that but I can dream). Also, being a Body Shop EDT, I was expecting it to fade away immediately, more like a body spray (I find most of their stuff is like that) but I was pleasantly surprised to find it sticks around for a while. I am planning on buying the oil to do some layering and see if I can increase it’s durability. Has anyone tried this?

There is your basic vanilla amber with a touch of synthetic sweet floral, im not saying it’s bad, its in fact good, but that’s what it smells like, the amber is also sweet and warm, overall this is a quite synthetic scent but that doesn’t mean it’s bad..

  20. :

    4 out of 5

In my first review of this I called it aquatic, but I take it back. I do however think that the “amber” listed in the notes is actually ambergris. Madagascan Vanilla Flower seems to be a very musky, salty ambergris fragrance with a lightly powdery vanilla glaze finish. The floral element is close to non-existent.
I don’t detect a whole lot of vanilla bean here; the vanilla is instead a facet of the dusty salty musk. Nice for a hot day but a little bit weird and inarticulate.
I’m starting to prefer the Body Shop to Bath & Bodyworks. The latter makes sharp bodywash detergent style scents, while the Body Shop makes less shiny scents which paradoxically are more vague but also more interesting, to me anyway.
I’m not saying that B&BW scents are coherent; they’re as abstract chemical soup as any scents in their price range, but they have a certain unnatural brightness which is not present in Body Shop scents.

I got a small spray bottle of this while I was out of town. It’s nice but I have to be in the right mood to wear it. Another reviewer said it well, it’s warm and savoury.
Before I wear it, I give the bottle a sniff and see if my mind says yep or nope! So I gotta say, this ones mood dependent and it’s very very warm. I do not care for any of the other scents in this range (I believe there are five). It’s worth a try if you’re into vanilla, and the body shop is always lovely to browse and test things out, so why not:)

A beautiful scent of vanilla and complimentary florals. This perfume is perfect for Autumn it is light, floral, yet warm from the vanilla.

Amazing Vanilla fragrance, exactly what i was looking for, more like hypnotic poison and Kenzo L’amour but with much lower price…simply love it !

Vanilla is not normally my cup of tea, but I decided to gamble on this one, and I think I’m pretty satisfied by it. To me this vanilla is delicious and does not give headache to me, rather gives me a warm feeling. I don’t smell any flower, just a single vanilla note. Not that it’s unpleasant. Overall, one successful gamble to me.

Oh how I love this perfume!!! I never go for cheap perfumes but this one is a big exception. I see a lot of people here have compared this with HP. And I do agree that they are relatives, but they are definitely not twins… this one goes smoother and rounder than Hypnotic Poison Eau Sensuelle. MVF doesn’t have that sharp floral notes which exist in eau sensulle. MFV is sweeter, deeper and for my own taste, much better.
When you compared this one with original HP, it is whole another story. While they are both deep, very sensual and sweet, this one is a hot girl but HP is a sexy woman. You don’t get that delicious and hypnotic coconut and almond here, but you get fresher but delicious as much, frangipani in stead. So they are definitely not substitute for one another, but if you like HP, I’m sure you will like this one too.
This lasts really long for its price tag. I sprayed on my arm and 1 day later it was still there.
For its sillage, I’m afraid it’s not that great… It is definitely not a skin scent but it’s true that it sits close to skin…
Overall, very good perfume and so much better than lots of high end fragrances!!!

At first, I really liked this. It reminded me a lot of Hypnotic Poison. But now, it has taken on an air freshener kind of vibe. I use it to refresh my room and my curtains or jackets. Other than that,I don’t really wear this much.

Love this!! I am crazy about perfume. Have MANY, all price ranges. My most expensive are in the $300 range. THIS fragrance proves that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get something you like. MVF is smooth and substantial. It is more on the floral side than gourmand, which I appreciate. Wear it alone or combine it with something else. Ex: Neroli. MVF is a great one to have in your collection. It is VERY versatile.

My friends gave me the gift pack for my birthday.
Yes, it is vanilla, but instead of being gourmand sweet, it’s more floral soft vanilla. Vanilla tend to last long on me so this one last for very long for a body shop fragrance – about 6 hours.

there’s way too much amber in this, it smells very savoury and warm and yellow.. I prefer vanilla to be sweet or boozy.

For years, I have been looking for a vanilla perfume that smelled like the infamous Spice Girls Impulse deodorant. It was a very distinctive and fun perfume that I still haven’t forgotten what it was like however couldn’t find a similar one. Until today! This new The Body Shop fragrance smells just like Spice Girls frag. Love it! Although I would have liked Madagascan Vanilla Flower to be a little stronger with a little more staying power, this one is a sweet, little, saf, everyday perfume. Good one TBS!

I love this perfume because its vanilla with touch of frangipani and slight Amber, it’s slightly sweet, n I love it. I don’t buy sweet perfumes, bt this smells deliciously sweet. Very balanced not too vanilla, not too sweet. Long lasting. I keep the oil and the edt..

More fruity than standard vanilla scents, this one’s quite good and an alternative for those who think that pure vanilla is too boring (which is not the case, but never mind).

Oil version of Hypnotic poison,at least to my nose and on my skin!

  34. :

Not too sweet vanilla blended with the white florals, just a touch of medicinal amber in the background. A little powdery. Good for casual wear.

  35. :

    5 out of 5

Just bought a 10 ml bottle of this, and I love it! It’s good for daily wear, and it’s not a gourmand, sticky sweet, sugary vanilla, it’s a more floral and soft vanilla. I think it reminds me a little bit of Van Cleef & Arpels Collection Extraordinaire Orchidee Vanille, but the more budget version of course. It’s not a total dupe, but the vanilla in this is very similar to the vanilla in Orchidee Vanille. This is going to be one of my faves.

  36. :

    4 out of 5

I love the oil, n the edt, I use the oil wen I go out, n keep the spray in my purse.. Oil stays longer, bt this is one perfume which smells yum, like whipped cream.. Lol. I hate sweet perfumes bt this one is very slightly sweet, coz of vanilla, bt the floral does the magic n keeps it’s fresh n balanced 😉 it’s worth the price.

Gorgeous vanilla that smells more expensive than it is. Although MVF is a sugary vanilla, the amber rounds it off and gives it a sensual smokiness. The fragipani is a gorgeous and brilliant floral addition to this concoction. MVF is not overly floral, nor is it overly ambery.
Fairly linear and the vanilla dominates the dry-down. MVF is a quality fragrance.
So far this is what my vanilla hierarchy looks like: Alien Essence Absolue > Dior Addict > Classique > MVF > D&G Pour Femme > Hanae Mori > Fancy > Fantasy.

  38. :

I tried this at the Body Shop. I like this more than the plain vanilla version, as it is more elegant and floral than cupcakey. I love vanilla, so this is gorgeous in my opinion. It also reminds me a alot (and I do mean a lot) of the drydown of Manifesto. I have a collextion of vanilla-based scents, and plan on adding this to it when one of my bottles runs out.

  39. :

    4 out of 5

This is more of a floral than a gourmand-vanilla. It is not as fullbodied, round and sweet-burnt-sugar as the “regular vanilla” from TBS.
Personally, I prefer this one, but to each its own.
Opens up a bit licorice-anisy, and then blends with the frangipani wich ads a bit of a “cold” (?) note to the fragrance, but amber and vanilla gives warmth to it. Hmm. Strange. I’ts almost that sort of “is it hot? Is it cold?” vibe you get from Thierry Mugler – Alien.
    Really like it!

I recently purchased this as a round home scent, I have recently decided to pursue a happier life doing what I love which has also mean less disposable income to spend on vintage/discontinued fragrances and wanted something to satisfy the need to smell sultry and somewhat oriental on a daily basis for a good price. I often pair with scented body butters/oils such as rose, ylang-ylang sandalwood and honeysuckle, the frangipani notes blend well with any tropical scented lotion you may own as well. To me this is a less citrusy scent than Dior’s Addict and it is reminiscent of Hypnotic Poison minus the bitter almond note. I am actually not a fan of HP so this fragrance is somewhat different as it works on my chemistry. Starts of slightly linear a smoky, non-foody vanilla smells a bit artificial for a few minutes but after about 5 minutes the amber appears and it becomes a soft, soothing serene powdery amber vanilla with natural sweetness, this is important as I cannot tolerate un-naturally sweet scents. Overall this is well crafted for a 3 note scent and I personally like this over the original Body Shop vanilla which was too sweet for me, I have tried this several times in-store before buying and gave in. Well worth it for an affordable daily wear scent which blends well with my other scented products and can transition easily between summer and winter seasons.

  41. :

    5 out of 5

I don’t find this to be a good substitute to Hypnotic Poison, which is my beloved signature and compliment getter, but I do admit that there is similarity. What makes them different is that MVF lacks of the depth, sensuality, and mystery in HP. It smells somewhat watered down and I get that “cold” vibe, perhaps from the frangipani rather than warmth which I expected from amber. However, the shower gel makes me in love. It evokes some memory, I don’t know, but I just love it. I will get it again as soon as possible.

  42. :

    3 out of 5

This is a rather tenacious aquatic vanilla scent. It’s like the aquatic notes from Womanity with vanilla on top instead of cinnamon – fig. Personally I can’t get into either one. Surprised more people aren’t getting anything aquatic.

  43. :

    4 out of 5

I tried this on my skin in the store and absolutely loved it! I am curious as to what the regular vanilla smells like though since so many people are referring to it. And as far as comparing it to Eau Sensualle….are you out of your mind???? I have a bottle of that sitting on my dresser now and I hate it!!! smells too heavy and old lady-like. Madagascan Vanilla Flower is much more linear and fresh. And when it comes to vanilla scents, less complexity is better.

  44. :

Cool vanilla balanced by plumeria (frangipani). More floral than gourmand. I’m in heaven!

  45. :

    4 out of 5

I’m sort of wondering if there is fragnipani in here or not…on the little paper slip I got tied to my bottle it said vanilla orchid, but I don’t know. It doesn’t smell a ton to me like either one anyways.
I agree the vanilla is a more cool vanilla, but it’s still very sweet. I think this vanilla is very versatile in that it could be worn year round easily through even hot weather because it’s not super heavy for being so sweet. The amber tones aren’t really that deep or rich.
It’s just sweet, simple, cool vanilla with some sweet flower something. It’s linear and is moderate in silage and projection. It’s incredibly easy to wear and I just love it without having to try. Well worth it’s sale price!

  46. :

There are similarities with Hypnotic Poison, but there is a slight difference; Hypnotic poison makes me feel cuddly, this one makes me feel… sad. I don’t know why. But when I tried it I thought the smell was very depressing on my skin. I prefer and adore the Vanilla/Vanille from the body shop.

  47. :

If you are a man who likes vanilla scents then this is one for you to try out. I know it’s listed as “for women”, but this has a very masculine feel to it. I discovered this while killing time in an airport. Starts of a bit perfume-y, but that soon settles into a dusty, vanilla scent that lasts a surprisingly long time.

    Sensual,Warm and Inviting… Very Feminine Perfume…
    ^_^ Love it!

I love this scent and had to buy it the minute I first tried it out. I’m a huge fan of vanilla scents and bought the oil and body spray. The only negative is that it just doesn’t last on my skin at all, which is really disappointing.

There really isn’t anything exciting about this fragrance. It’s a run of the mill vanilla scent. I much prefer The Body Shop’s Vanilla EDT to this.

  54. :

This is a nice basic vanilla scent. Good for days whereby you are not in the mood for your favourite or complex fragrance. This one wears close to skin and is best worn on skin. A comforting scent for day and night.

hmm..I don’t remember HP Sensualle smelling like this at ALL. This smelled just like their regular Vanilla scent they had before(and SA in the store told me it IS the same, all they changed was packaging)
I am a vanilla lover but for some reason this vanilla was never my favorite. Not sure why but it was(and is) always too cloying to my nose.
its a pass for me…clearly lot of people love it so try before buying, everyone’s sense of smell is different

Got this as a gift from my sister and I think it smells wonderful! I’ve always been a fan of vanilla and this perfume has a very subtle, sweet vanilla scent and not too overpowering. Out of five perfumes in the Scents of the World range, this is definitely the best one.

  57. :

    4 out of 5

i love it.. a bit different than other normal vanilla smell..for me its like a masculine version of vanilla..lol

  58. :

As others have stated, this is extremely similar to Hypnotic Poison Eau Sensuelle. This is less powdery/dry, and is slightly tangier. Does smell that bit cheaper, also, but it’s a grand dupe!
This is also available in an oil format, so can last all day if layered with the EDT.
Less multifaceted than Eau Sensuelle – so if it’s the smooth & subtle dry down of Eau Sensuelle you’re especially fond of, this one may not be for you.
I like this, it’s a sweet floral scent, (albeit a little heavy? possibly the amber? I have allergies!), especially well suited to evenings in summertime.

Got the perfume oil the other day at a Body Shop party … they didn’t have any testers to try so I bought blind hoping for a fragrance similar to their gorgeous Vanilla Duo body butter what I got was something that smellled like bitter almonds and far too similar to Hypnotic Poison , which , like all that family are total scrubbers on my skin !

Wow this is my favorite vanilla scent from the body shop (well other than the no.1 orignal from the 90’s). Very warm and sweet. Really makes me feel warm and cosy. Wasn’t expecting much at first when I saw it released online. But visited my local branch and just had to have it. I Think the edt rather than the perfume oil smells stronger and sweeter. A definate keeper for me, erm well untill they stop this one too!!

  65. :

This resembles a lot Hypnotic Poison Eau Sensuelle, nice quality too for the price, lovely. This and Neroli are great findings in the Body Shop Collection.

  66. :

    3 out of 5

I bought the body mist of this. It was a toss up between this and Indian Night Jasmine, and this body mist won as it was so “sensual and warm” as the little description on the shelf said. I like both equally, but this one is warmer and exotic, perfect for cold winters and hot summers.

  67. :

    5 out of 5

First of all I didn’t like the previous vanilla of The Body Shop, too artificial to my nose. Finally got the Madagascan vanilla flower in oil version and it does remind me of 5:40 pm in Madagascar by Kenzo.
It’s not the gourmand kind of vanilla but almost airy with the exotic freshness of frangipani and a hint of amber. it’s less cloying than Love etc and has moderate sillage and decent longevity.
Still fairly linear, it was to be expected looking at the notes but I like my vanillas a bit more complex. I have the oil and prefer to use it as a cocooning/before bed scent/layered to sweeten other perfumes or used to scent homemade scrub with brown sugar and sweet almond oil.

  68. :

    3 out of 5

This perfume is surprisingly good quality for its price. It’s vanilla with some edge, nothing too personal but still pleasant. The scent doesn’t develop nearly at all, but for a cheap every day comfort scent I don’t require it. Besides vanilla I get some citrus and flowers which make it even a little spice to my nose and give it some exotic character which makes it stand out from other lower budget vanilla perfumes. It’s just a little sweet but not in a sickeningly way. I’d say that this is a best buy for a friend of vanilla looking for something pleasant for a every day use with rather low price!

There was a TBS fair in the atrium of the mal celebrating giving season for christmast. It was like heaven that we can test all the range of product without being followed by SA. This is the best from the series. The most long lasting too. Truly vanilla.. Just plain vanilla. The way I like it 🙂

  70. :

I think this smells lovely! have been looking for a sweeter (not sickly) vanilla smell that has the fruity/flowery touch to it and this matches that perfectly!
I can imagine guys really liking this as well, my boyfriend sure did =) Only downside is the lasting power which isn’t great. Silage is moderate though. Will try the perfume oil instead. Layering it with the lotion might prolong the experience from this wonderful smell.
Would def recommend this to any feminine girl between 18-25.

Why they change a good thing into this weak thing called vanilla Flower Madagascan! The first one from the 90’s was the best!! then they change it, not very good but okay not bad either! but now? no vanilla to my nose! goodbye TBS!

  72. :

I love the smell of vanilla and spent ages looking for a vanilla fragrance. Whilst this perfume is sweet and delicate, it is unfortunately not very long lasting. The scent is gorgeous when first sprayed on but vanishes within an hour or so.

  73. :

Nothing like the old Body Shop Vanilla which I loved. The sales assistant tried to assure me that it was just a change in packaging and the perfume was exactly the same. The new version is weak and reminds me of a watery bled of Brit and Hypnotic Poison somehow. I like Hypnotic Poison but prefer the real full bodied thing to this strange version.

  74. :

    4 out of 5

I love this perfume. It smells kind of like Siren by Paris Hilton when I sprayed it on a paper, like flowery vanilla as I thought. On me though, it reminds me a bit of Lady Million by Paco Rabanne, it’s a spicy vanilla scent.
It’s a warm scent that’s kind of heavy for being an EDT but not overpowering, good lasting power too. It works for every occasion (but I think I’d want something stronger for a party) and it’s never too much, not even in the winter. If you just want one perfume this is definately the one if you’re not older than 20-25. Women over 25 or30 might think it’s a bit childish…

It smells exactly like honey and lemon Tunes? Really reminds me of cough sweets mixed with vanilla as there’s something menthol/toothpaste about it..it’s still a sweet fragrance though 🙂 I’m not sure if I like it as much as The Body Shop Vanilla edt (now discontinued) though, this Madagascan vanilla smells weaker. I’m all about the strong vanilla!

This is EXACTLY the same as Yves Rocher`s Vanille Noire. Nothing else to say…….
Edit: OK, it is very similar, but if I were to choose I think Vanille Noire wins – Madagascan Vanilla is a little weaker 🙁

Tried it today…i like it! Vanilla + frangipani (almost a kind of jasmin to my nose!) make a tender floral-vanilla fragrance, that reminds me Hypnotic Poison Eau Sensuelle (Shwets, you’re right 🙂 ). Unfortunately, the edt is a little too light and evanescent on my skin (maybe I have to try with body lotion + perfume oil). If you are looking for a natural, sweet vanilla smell, not too gourmand or sickly, go for this one!
The vanilla range seems to have been replaced with this Madagascan range in Italy, too 🙁 I liked this range, but I liked also the simple vanilla range (and above all the body spray with the plastic bottle).

If you like the now-discontinued Neroli Jasmin by the Body Shop, you just might love this as well.
The first time I tried it, it reminded me of Hypnotic Poison and Addict a little, but only slightly. It doesn’t have the complexity and depth of either of the other two although the concept is similar. Madagascan Vanilla Flower is very linear and straightforward, so what you spray on is what you will smell right to the end. Get this if you want an affordable floral oriental that is very sweet and simple, but not overly foody.
It’s not going to satisfy you if you are used to vanillas with more depth though. This is (obviously) more similar to the style of Bath & Body Works or Victoria’s Secret scents than a Serge Lutens or Dior.

This is nothing like TBS vanilla fragrance but a flowery (jasmine smelling) vanilla which dare i say reminds me of Christian Dior’s Hypnotic Poison Eau Sensuelle.
The edt lasts for several hours as does the perfume oil. Edt is quite heavy and heady in comparison to the perfume oil which is slightly fruitier on first application.
Update: In UK the vanilla range has been replaced with the Madagascan Vanilla range.
