Description

The first perfume from the actress Sarah Jessica Parker came out in 2005 under the name of Lovely, announced as an elegant and intimate “silky white amber”. Lovely Liquid Satin, the silicone based fragrance without alcohol, was introduced in 2006. Lovely 10th Anniversary Edition from 2015 was presented in honor of the tenth birthday of the perfume and now the Lovely Sheer edition appears in the spring of 2016 as a light, fresh and delicate reinterpretation of the original.

Lovely Sheer, sophisticated and feminine, has a soft floral character with woody and musky accents. It opens with a blend of orange blossom from Morocco, bergamot and mandarin leading to the heart of gardenia water, blonde woods and pink pepper. The base brings tones of musk, vetiver and crystal amber that linger on the skin.

Available as a 100 ml Eau de Toilette and as a sheer body mist.

VERY strong bergamot and mandarin, combined with a touch of vetiver from the opening and thru the dry down (prominent citrusy scent for sure, but NOT sharp at all). It was almost like I just applied 3 drops of fresh squeezed orange/lime juice on my arm. Later on I got a soft combination of these: gardenia/orange blossom and wood. Very refreshing fragrance. Lovely Sheer smells so good and cheerful on my skin, but I can definitely see certain men also pulling it off nicely. There is NO lavender note that I detected.
Lovely Sheer is PERFECT for a hot summer day, especially for gardening in the morning. It is what it means “SHEER” (a LIGHT, but NOT WEAK fragrance by any mean). The more it developed further (with just a tat of sweetness from the white flowers to tone down the citrus notes), the more I liked it. It is such a mood lifting fragrance, gently, gracefully bright, and SO refreshing.
I’m very glad that I did not skip Lovely Sheer, as it does smell differently enough on my skin, compared to the original Lovely. An absolute MUST-HAVE in anybody’s Lovely collection. If you are a fan of Lovely, it does not hurt to also have it. It is pretty cheap buying online now, for a 3.4 oz brand new bottle. I don’t know anything about other hard-to-find Lovely versions, but I’m very happy with this one.

Pretty much like the original but not as heavy (don’t sense the patchouli; more floral). I wish I had skipped on purchasing this since I find them too alike.

The bottle initially seemed like it had cloudy liquid inside. Possibly off, I thought. But it seems that is the appearance.
Very much like a lighter, more citrussy Lovely. Nothing spectacular, but fresh for hotter days. Keep having to reapply as it seems to disappear on me.

THIS is a Lovely I can wear! I wanted to love the original and could see why she is sooo popular, but the patchouli note was just to prominent for me.
But here come this little beauty, to me it smells like fresh floral peony and musk! So beautiful! But like many sheers, it needs to be reapplied often. But since it smells so so good, the reapply is like an calm, uplifting “me” moment throughout my day.

Agree with @mousulus in 100%. This flanker of Lovely is completely unmemorable. Unfortunately. As I really had great hopes about this one. But the good thing is, that once disappointed I still craved the lighter version of Lovely and I did find one!
Lovely Body Mist is everything I wanted Sheer to be. Absolutely lovely (sic!) one. Do try it! To wear alone or for the layering. Works pretty nice with other chypre fragrances.

    One word description: pleasant.
Reminiscent of the original Lovely stripped of its depth and the peppery bite, this is the lighter, brighter, milder spring and summer version. It’s fresh and lightly floral, perfect for garden parties and cotton dresses while staying mature enough to wear to the office. There’s a touch of the clean humidity following a shower but this is never astringently soapy.
This fragrance is also completely unmemorable. I’m undecided if I will be repurchasing once my 15ml roller is finished. On the one hand, it’s a very easy fragrance and I find myself picking it up frequently on warm work days. On the other hand, I don’t find myself particularly enthusiastic or excited to wear it.

This is very simply, a fresher, lighter and cleaner version of the original Lovely. It feels and smells so similar to the original, but without the weight and enveloping waxy petal texture with intense musk that made it difficult for me to wear frequently.
This edition is soapier (thanks to the orange blossom), it retains some of the powdery quality (while being delicate about it), and has an overall more citrusy body.
There is no doubt to me that it is a relative of Lovely (the initial moments smell almost identical), but it softens and settles into a version that is entirely more wearable through heat and humidity. It has never once given me a headache (like the original was prone to do), and I have never received the commentary of it being too much, too reaching or choking like the original prompted people to do.
It is the quiet younger sister of the original. So many of the same aspects, but you just have to listen more closely to hear the same attitude. This is for me, a really good balance which allows me to wear and enjoy a fragrance that caused me some difficulty.
If you enjoy clean, citrus or soapy scents, or if the original version was too much for you, Sheer could very well be a good choice for you. I picked it up as a blind buy (which is very out of the ordinary for me), knowing the things I wished Lovely was, and it worked out to be almost exactly in line with what I needed.
Mature, elegant, simple and easy to wear. Nice.

Although this is a lovely fragrance, I find it to be not too similar to the original Lovely. On my skin, it smells like a tincture of bloomed gardenia’s teeming with peppercorns in a vat of fresh water. Doesn’t last long, but it does smell lovely.

This perfume indeed reminds of Lovely, but without the patch/lavender combo it is less earthy. I absolutely love the cocktail-in-the-sube vibe of bergamot and oranges and flowers. However, at times the gardenia together with the musk becomes overpowering and overly soapy on my skin. Even though the musk is toned down compared to Lovely, I am afraid it is still too much for me. But do try if you like musk and gardenia!

Natalie Wood perfume with the hint of Elie Saab Le Parfum! My aunt loves it to wear and I smell it everytime I met her!

Definitely a “lovelier” Lovely. A sweet shadow of the original. Much more subtle. Gives the impression of something crystal clear and delicate. Light, floral, and perfect for a Spring day.

i’m not a fan of the original in any way, there’s something in the notes that doesn’t sit right on me so i was hesitant to try this but this version is perfect! the citrus takes away the harshness on me & it smells amazing. it does settle to a lighter version of the original which I’m fine with as the dry down is more peasant & not as strong. really nice fragrance, i will be purchasing this one as soon as possible.

My daughter doesn’t know this exists so yeah I went after it. I have worn the original Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker but this flanker is definitely more my kind of fragrance. Coming after Lovely in time it’s also something that suits my personality and my lifestyle as it is today as compared to how Lovely seems to suit younger more urban professional hipsters who work hard but party even harder. I’m past the age of nightclub dancing and going to bars and I’m definitely not a Sex In The City type of girl. That boozy salty sweet feminine modern patchouli centered original was the bohemian city party girl I used to be.
Sheer is a clean feminine fragrance, soft, delicate, soapy almost like white or pink Dove soap on your skin. It’s a calming and refreshing citrus based soapy after bath splash type of thing, feminine but mature, not old lady ish despite the big white floral note of gardenia. It’s just a nice clean inoffensive skin scent to wear daily any time anywhere. It’s a safe office scent/work place scent and a good after bath skin freshener.
When it opens at the first spritz I get mandarin and bergamot orange along with orange blossom. I’m a big fan of citrus based scents and orange blossom so for me this is absolute heaven. The initial notes are quite good. They are delicious and fresh like mandarin orange juice in the morning but coming off as more shampoo like and with a tartness that speaks of keeping cool in hot weather. This then turns into a very white floral aroma with a dominant gardenia note. The gardenia, like jasmine, has a waxy and cool sweet scent, feminine and mature but again not boring not old hag. This is soapy and sweet soft and conservative.
Emphasis on conservative. The scent does not match up with a tight tube top or cocktail dress or flirty mini-dress. It’s a blazer and blouse and skirt or pant suit executive business wear or a formal white dress or beige dress, neutral colors. No nonsense and formal, quite womanly and grown up. In the dry down I pick up on a clean musk, ambers and vetiver. It’s like a bar of green soap. The scent is also a tad spicy with pink pepper but wooden/woodsy in the end. Very clean. It’s a lovely gem and quite modern and wearable as in easy to wear.
    Thanks Sarah

No surprises here! Sheer smells like the original Lovely with added white floral, front and center. The result is fresh and clean, in an elegant way. I like Sheer a lot… the projection and longevity are wanting, but it’s inexpensive so just spray lots.

I smelled this gem a year ago when it was first launched. Didn’t like it much and from what i can remember it was too “fresh and citrusy” to my nose. I love my white florals only in a perfume. Recently I sprayed this on my jacket, and when I got home I noticed that the dry down is fantastic. It’s gardenia all the way. I own the original Lovely already and worn it for years. But Lovely sheer is the gentler, and more transparent version of Lovely. Thank God Lovely sheer is an EDP too. Projection and lasting power are excellent. Bought mine at Boots in UK for 19.50 pounds. This is my top 3 perfumes now, apart from Madonna’s Truth or Dare, and Narciso Rodriquez’s for her EDT. I just thank God I gave Lovely sheer another chance a year later after its initial release. If Madonna’s Truth or Dare is my bad girl perfume, Lovely sheer is my good girl one. And Narciso for edt is my in between the two but still trying to seduce men of course! Lol

I reviewed this briefly after a quick spray in a store and didn’t think that much of it. I’ve since managed to buy a cheap bottle and have had the time to get a little more acquainted with it and my opinion has changed.
I still think the bottle looks great, but the little round cap that sits on the top doesn’t really click into place properly and falls off easily. But I do love the sheer white-tinged glass and pale pink band at the top. This reinterpretation of the original Lovely bottle really does represent the fragrance inside nicely.
I like the fragrance more than I did. It has a strong green/citrus opening that gives way to a well, sheerer version of Lovely after about 30 minutes. Lasts for a good 10-12 hours on me. If you like the original Lovely but found that it gets a bit too sharp as it wears then try this version. It’s like they pulled back all the strong notes and made it smell more “even” if you know what I mean.
Overall, it really is lovely and it really is sheer. Nice job all round and a great choice for Summer. I wonder why this one is so hard to get hold of when Stash is all over the place and is a much less crowd-pleasing fragrance?

SJP Lovely Sheer = The unisex version of Aqua Di Gio.
This is the original lovely but with less apple martini smell…and the citrus notes turned way up.
    This is very shower fresh!
This really is like a less-earthy, less feminine, more shower-fresh version of lovely. To sum it up…it’s gorgeous…CLEAN…and unisex.
Smells like Aqua Di Gio for men and the original Lovely had a baby.
Beautiful. Clean. Classy. Unisex. Crowd Pleaser. Compliment magnet.
Sillage – Great! About 4-5 feet.
Longevity – Also great! About 6-7 hours.
    Scent Itself – 9/10
    Overall Score – 9/10
SJP is a fragrance genius. Period.

Finally I got my own bottle of Lovely Sheer. It’s Eau de Parfum not Eau de Toilette, like what Fragrantica have stated in the article above. But why SJP’s Teams don’t just name it ‘Lovely Girl’ because IMO this new version is more feminine (for those who doesn’t really like the prominant notes of musky-aromatic in the original version), quite sweet but not too much, it’s lighter than the original EdP. However, it still has the original Lovely’s DNA in it, but less woody, less earthy-aromatic-y vibes & same amount of muskyness. The sparkling apple martini & the lavender notes in the original was replaced by the ‘juicy but fresh mandarin’ & the gardenia. But (for those who loves white florals but hate gardenia just like me) please don’t be fooled by gardenia in Sheer because they are very humble & friendly gardenia. It’s one of the main notes in Sheer but not a diva-like as usual. It’s very well blended with mandarin (thanks for that) and the combination makes this new Lovely version more wearable. But for me the original Lovely are still the winner. About the perfomance, even though it’s called Sheer but still performs very well. It’s projects moderately & lasts all day on me (same goes to original EdP). Unfortunately, there are the only 1 thing that bothers me… It’s stays linear in about 1 hour after sprayed until the end of the day. Doesn’t has the same plot like original EdP which i really love, from first to finish, it changed quite some time… Overall, I still like this new version & I’m glad that I finally have it. Never regret buying it ‘cuz it still Lovely though… This is a must have in a collection and recommended…

I am a celebrity perfume lover (Boo! Hiss!) and made a real effort to go to an obscure shop to get my hands on this. It doesn’t seem to have been given a wide release and I’m not sure why. Anyway, the first big surprise is how much better the bottle looks in real life – it has a glossy translucent finish that dioesn’r really show up in the photo above. The scent itself leaves me sitting on the fence. Yes, you can smell the original Lovely in there, but is seems hidden behind a fairly generic fuity floral scent that really doesn’t do it for me.

I had really high hopes for a new fragrance from SJP, even a flanker. Lovely Sheer is an EDP, although the article above states it is an EDT. The initial blast is all citrus and light orange and then it fades away (must be the sheer element) into a skin scent. I get no hint of gardenia or amber. It is not offensive or groundbreaking and it won’t make anywhere near a splash the original Lovely did. Nor does it contain the intrigue and originality of Covet. Lasting power is decent but projection is light, definitely a skin scent.
Lovely Sheer smells like Clinique Happy had a baby with some bug spray and this is the result.

I love this! Sheer Lovely smells like Lovely after a bubble bath- just a bit more fresh and sparkly.
For some reason I’ve had a hard time finding in the US, and I ended up blind-buying a tester bottle on eBay. I’m so glad I did! Longevity is about the same as Lovely, but I can smell it on my clothes very well. I will be buying a backup bottle soon. Does anyone know the nose?

While this does smell a lot like “Lovely” and as it should being from the same line. It has its own fresh green spin. It’s a lot lighter. Not as starchy. I love the classic smell that “Lovely” has and this has that still. If you’ve ever tried “Covet :: Pure Bloom” this has a bit of that in it as well. The petals are the same I believe. Has great staying power. I wore for a 8 hour shift at work, took a shower and still had a linger on my skin and hair, and found the shirt I wore and it was still on there. Great 10+ staying power. Also got the attention of co workers. One told me “it’s a rich person smell! That’s what rich people wear” haha!

Tried this in Superdrug this morning. Very light and citrusy. The orange blossoms dominates after the initial bergamot blast. Maybe a slight mandarin note but nothing that stands out.
I fear this has very little likeness to the original, if any. I struggle to smell it on my wrist after only an hour, and what I smell are still the top notes. I hoped it would stay on long and strong enough for the middle and base notes to evolve, but it seems to fade away as it started.
Because of the orange blossoms it reminds me of Elie Saab l’ couture. I even pick up an almond note. Maybe almond blossom.
It’s too light for me, but if you’re inclined, it’s £20 at Superdrug here in the UK at the moment.
