Now that I’m older I’ve warmed significantly to lily of the valley. I’m still not hardcore enough for Jessica McClintock, but maybe one day.
I actually like the wet greenness of Caswell Massey’s Lily of the Valley. Kind of waxy in a way that reminds me a bit of hyacinth. Very botanical and earthy. It has LOTV’S inherent soapiness, of course, but it’s not LOTV soap, if you get me.

Lily of the valley flowers have a layered scent: a warm, thick, sweet, somewhat waxy opening with a green, sharp, moist base. Caswell Massey’s “Lily of the Valley” is almost all the base. It’s too sharp, too green, and too wet. It’s really not a very pleasant smell for a perfume. This is the only CM scent that I truly dislike.
