Description

Guerlain launches L’Homme Idéal L’Intense in spring of 2018 as a new flanker in the masculine line that includes the original L’Homme Ideal from 2014, L’Homme Ideal Cologne from 2015, L’Homme Idéal Eau de Parfum from 2016 and L ‘Homme Idéal Sport from 2017.

“The Ideal Man is a myth… but thanks to Guerlain, his fragrance is a reality with the new L’Homme Idéal Intense.”

The scent is announced as a masculine, luxurious and elegant, with oriental-woody and spicy composition. Intensity is the high point of this new interpretation, according to the brand.  It contains notes of fiery spices like chilli and cardamom at its opening, followed by the heart of leather and Bulgarian rose, based on smoked woody notes.

It is available in a bottle covered in a matte black lacquer and yellow details as a 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

The nose behind this fragrance is Thierry Wasser.

This is the EdP that decided to wear a moto leather jacket with a spiced tea in hand. It really cuts down the sweetness, maybe a little too much for my taste. You can really smell the contrast in the notes added when you compare it with the EdP side by side. The drydown, after all that leather and spice, smells of a light, feminine floral scent. I have no qualms against it, it’s absolutely beautiful, but could be unsettling for those who prefer more absolute masculine lines in a scent. But this is kind of a lesson that Wasser seems to educate in his creations. His scents seem to blur everything within the confines between masculine and feminine notes. I like and respect that about him. I don’t know if Guerlain has become more popular through his efforts, but I do think he has created a cool playground in which to express himself through this old French moniker for perfumes.

I own both the EDT and EDP L’Homme ideal but this makes me wish I’d just got this instead. The EDT I really like but I never seem to find occasion to wear a gourmand fragrance that subtle. The EDP I wear out in winter but the sweetness of it grates a little.
Intense is a nice step down to somewhere between the extreme cherry sweetness of the EDP with added depth and spice that makes it feel more mature and potentially wearable than either.

Smells really good. Sophisticated. Its a skin scent eventually.
If this was more concentrated naturally and aromatic, this would be KING of this genre.
As I said in a review on the the Eau De Par fum, this reminds me of the Mens Chanel Allure line up, only this is the gourmand version.
Ideal intense is slightly better though in terms of Chanel.
The cherry note in this one is balanced out, its less in your face than the other.
This version is a better buy for me, its darker.

I find this very similar to Ralph Lauren Supreme Oud but not as good on performance.

This is very good stuff. Its just a little weak on the projection, a skin scent if that’s what you want. Thankfully, the cherry note is less in your face unlike the the original and eau de parfum. This is more low key and smooth. Its a mans scent now. This is for casual or higher occasions, a darker scent, best suited for a night date. A more mature Chanel Allure type scent comes to mind when I get a whiff of this.

    beautiful,
the base of traditional L Homme Ideal, roses and almods playing whit the smoke note and a vibrant vibe of chilli pepper!
All the spirit of Guerlain here!
The best of L´Homme Ideal family.

It`s impressive! it felt more than 15 hours. Perfect scent, comparable to amouage. 10+

The selle of Paris to me; when I was in Paris first tie this year I felt this one everywhere…. I will never forget my first trip to Guerlain store… a very honey and seductive fragrance.. to me unisex…a very strong note of honey and soapy cardamon::: I love that bottle

Really strange! This reminds me a lot of La Petite Robe Noire (probably the almond).

This smells pretty much like the EDP version. No reason to own both. If you don’t have either get whichever is cheaper as they both are really good.

This is the intense version of edt.. while edt and intense have more al mondo approach than edp…edp has differente approach and i prefer edp because i don t like that almond opering.

How do L’Intense and EDP compare to each other? is it worth having both flankers in your wardrobe?
In terms of longevity, L’Intense is slightly better, although both have the same restrained silage.
Scent-wise, both of them are absolutely, equally and individually divine! Deep, sophisticated and luxurious.
The uncompromising quality of the Guerlain ingredients make their presence known from the initial spray.
While both flankers share similar foundations, it’s the added/missing notes in each that give them their individual personalities.
L’Intense is smokier, denser and deeper. Perfectly suited for nights, formal wear or colder weather. The EDP is lighter and has a prominent cherry accord that, although still suited for formal occasions, makes it perfect for summer/spring seasons.
If I had to choose between L’Intense and the EDP? Forget it, I’ll choose both!

A little bit more masculine, leathery and woody version of Eau de Parfum.
Quite prominent chilli makes it leaning towards spiciness. Also detectable rose, but not in a feminine way.
In the same time characteristic cherry vibe “Petite Robe-Noire – like” is there but in the background and you have to sniff precisely to detect it.
    10 hours longevity, medium projection.
I prefer the EDP and I’ll stick to that one.

    Fragrance -L’Homme Idéal L’Intense Guerlain
    Bottle from – 2018
L’Homme Idéal L’Intense opens on my skin with a delicious, warm, sweet and a bit spicy almond mingled with chili pepper laying on top of a cozy vanilla.
As time goes by,during mid development, rose comes into the game and adds a bit romantic floral symphony with the tender trace of fine leather.
This all leads into a woody, sweet, darker and a bit smoky base with dominant vanilla and with a wisper of tonka and patchouli.
I think it’s a unisex smell.A little bit more masculine, but it’s in the middle of the road.
    Longevity – 7/10(7+ hours)
Silage/Projection – 7/10(moderate projection and silage for the first 2-3 hours, than sits closer to skin for the duration of the scent’s evolution)
Weather -best in autumn, winter and early spring.
    Age – 20+
    Compliments – 9/10
    Scent – 8/10
Main notes according to me – almond, vanilla, rose, chili pepper, spices, leather, tonka.
The drydown is woody, sweet and a bit smoky and I get some -vanilla,patchouli,sandalwood and tonka.
    Emotions -warm,delicious,sweet,warm,passionate,seductive.
Occasion -perfect for date, romantic evening and night out.
You’ll get compliments with this one.Try before you buy.

AWESOME! Smashingly more complicated version of the EDT and darker than the EDP.
Reviews here are good representation though some of the notes are I am sure not necessarily appropriate.
    If I were to simplify:
With all the notes it smells like a woody Cherry scent with a touch of incense or smoke.
This is why its better than the EDP – I like it too but it was too deep and sweet and at a whiff too simple.
I normally prefer the EDT which has more obvious layers and less sweetness.
This one – well this one is just right – The almond, vanilla, rose flow through to the darker woody base with a perfect spicy kick to present the gorgeous cherry like feel (to me).
INFACT it reminded me so much of Polo RED INTENSE i’m testing them side by side on my arms. Remarkable, the beginning is very similar and after 30 min RED INTENSE smells vaguely similar except its too sweet and its like they forgot to do anything else like add the spices as it continues to a powdery musky base – I like them both but its like IDEAL is its mature darker twin brother.
Its like RED is Tom Jones v Ideal Robbie Williams. Both belt out tunes, fill stadiums and make women swoon but you just know Robbie Williams is a cheeky naughty sod!
Blind buy – BIG SMILE. My only complaint is it seems a bit below par on projection and longevity for an EDP.
Ideal EDT and Red Intense are moving to the back of the queue for now 🙂

Intense is a wonderful addition to the L’Homme Ideal line as it takes a less mainstream approach to the fragrance and brings balance to the sweeter, more immediately appealing EDT and EDP releases. This is the most mature offering so far as it no longer relies on “sweet” to gain its fans, and instead chooses a slightly more challenging but also more rewarding direction in the way of a dark, spicy, oriental rose reminiscent of Chanel’s classic, Egoiste. It opens with hot spices similar to pepper and coriander (listed as chili pepper in the pyramid), and perhaps some incense, over a deep, masculine rose accord, creating a feeling that is darker, dirtier, and perhaps more demonstrative of an earlier era in perfumery than the present. I truly think Intense feels more similar at times to Guerlain’s 1992 release for men, Heritage, than it does to the original L’Homme Ideal EDT. But this is a good thing! The L’Homme Ideal line didn’t need another flanker which centered around its sweet, cherry-amond accord, and indeed, here with Intense, that accord is way dialed down in terms of sweetness and volume–pushed below the rose and spices, simmering softly beneath the surface. However, the accord is certainly still there, and the connection to the L’Homme Ideal line is undeniable. While Intense opens with hot spices over a dark rose, the spicy aspect gradually settles down, making way for a smooth base with a leathery, suede-like finish and Ideal’s omnipresent tonka accord providing its round, familiar comfort.
I have not worn this enough to be able to fully assess its performance, but as of now, that may be the one area where Intense is lacking. Intense gets reeled in fairly quickly, and in under one hour projects less than a foot. By two or three hours it projects no more than 6 inches off of my skin and becomes a much lighter smell. However, it’s important to note that this is based on one full wearing, and for some reason, I always have performance issues with a brand new bottle, even for fragrances regarded as powerhouses. So I’ll update this part of my review about its performance as I get a better chance to assess it.
Overall, I think Intense is a nice release. Those who dislike the EDT and EDP may find something to like here as it adds a more mature, darker dimension to the picture. Furthermore, as mentioned above, it seems like it’s about only about 30% of the original EDT in terms of similarity. On the other hand, those who enjoy the EDT and EDP will probably like this one a lot too, and be more than happy to add it to their collection. It delivers something entirely new to the L’Homme Ideal line and it executes well, making Intense a solid flanker release and in my opinion, probably the best offering in the entire line. Final rating, 8.5/10, pending my assessment of its performance. Should its performance improve with subsequent wearings, I’ll add half a point to its overall score.

At first, I was VERY unimpressed. However, this is a fairly good flanker that I’m sure I won’t be buying. It doesn’t fall into the disappointing ‘Intense’ flanker category that just intensifies everything and makes me it messy but it also doesn’t really differ itself from the EDP too much except for the depth and darkness that come from a supple incense note. All that being said, the opening of spicy chilli goodness is mighty impressive – it actually tickles the nose like the real thing. If I were a wealthier man, I’d buy it for that alone. However, I am not and I’m also on a no-buy period. I tested the gods by testing new releases as it is.

wow this stuff is spicy and dark, it reminded me givenchy gentleman only absolute which is so strong and only good for winters.i picked up cardamom, cinnamon, licorice, woods, incense, leather, benzoin, tonka ,almond and patchouli from this.not very beast mode on the drydown, like the opening..which is big and bold.i liked the smell but i was expecting little more potency from this one.wont say im disappointed, but ill wait for it to hit the discounters and perhaps it will be a MAY BE….in similar fashion valentino uomo noir absolu is wow..id pick that up over this one, though i love this line 🙂
    overall 6.5/10
ps…added note…i kinda got the paco rabanne one million prive tobacco vibe from this too

pleasant smell, nothing special, no note dominates the other. a sweet and pungent but redundant scent. sweet but dark, the aperture reminds me my hated black bvlgari … smell of black rubber, but it is only a brief beginning thankfully.you can clearly smell the chili, a not very strong almond, a sweet rose that with time fades, a leather not sour, a light patchouli, the usual solid tonka bean now everywhere, a lot of sandalwood, vanilla in medium proportions and a smoke that soon fades.what can I say? soft performance for a sweet and unattractive molasses. a sufficiency if you want a good sweet smell. but there is much better.

Tried a couple days ago in the mall and as some already stated yes, the initial impression I get is of the EDP with the cherry note much tamed down, still maintaining a fruity vibe with added spicyness (reminding me of Xeryus Rouge with that pimento note). A few seconds passed and the smokey note, more of burning wood rather than incense, starts to emerge and becomes more prominent with the leather. After 30 minutes or so it changes direction a bit and another scent came to my head: Versace Man (2003), which was a little weird since they don’t share many notes (if any) in common but the outcome effect is quite similar (spicy-flowery-smokey-tobacco).
In all, nice release by Guerlain, certainly not a groundbreaking one but more of a ‘polished’ alternative take of the edp, and more interesting also to be honest.
    7/10

I have also been wearing Ideal EDP on one hand and intense on the other. They are not similar at all. To me they are very different, I would say Intense is more mature, more serious, while EDP is more joyful and playful.
In intense you get strong incense (smoke) and chili pepper that smells pungent. If It was a blind sample I would have guessed it’s something from amouage.
Ideal EDP smells way sweeter, has cherry, but eventually dry down is similar to edt.
Longevity is about the same, but i believe EDP might project a little better.
Once again high quality release from Guerlain, i like it. However, I dont think it is a safe to blind buy, try it yourself people.

Have been testing today L’Homme Ideal L’Intense on one hand, and the EDP on the other hand. They are SO similar to one another. As other people previously mentioned, if you have the EDP, then hold on until it’s done to buy L’Intense.
Of course, there are certain differences. EDP is just a tiny bit fruitier and more citrusy. In fact, by smelling them side by side I was able to discover facets of the EDP that I didn’t notice before; a certain playfulness at the top notes, surrounding the cherry. L’Intense delivers a more serious, even somber interpretation of the scent, and therefore it could be more suited to formal events and cold winter nights (which makes me think, why on earth did they release it in the middle of spring). I’m not sure about the Chilli note. Been trying to grasp a bit of it but seems like it’s hiding in plain sight.
Performance seems similar for both, which I find acceptable. None of them are beasts, so you shouldn’t expect that.

Nothing special. Almost the same as EDP. Very close to the skin. EDT is better but not at all my favorite. The bottle on picture looks prettier than in reality.

    Canberra is cold and dry.
I am wondering why the experience of other reviewers is quite different.
To me this is so conceptually BLACK like the bottle.
I can see clean strong black skin.
    My species was ordinary black.
It is a truth not lost to my inner most mind.

    Late autumn in Canberra, Australia.
    Sunny around 10C.
    Guerlain counter at David Jones
    Knowledgeable staff
The Guerlain fragrance bottles are spread out like a palette.
My clothes are once again many shades of grey with Turkish coffee coloured leather shoes.
The colours of the bottles match their scent character.
After trying a few, I am drawn to the new black and grey fragrance.
After having sampled many other fragrance, my first response is wow!
A check of the notes documented by Guerlain confirms my assumptions and more.
This is the Guerlain Ideal for me.
To each, his or her own; Guerlain has given people who deeply care about fragrances wonderful choices.
No doubt, this will be an excellent fall/winter office and Cafe fragrance.
And at the gym after work, traces of the scent notes coming from workout-heated skin might be intriguing.

Very good! I love it! The sweet vanilla reminds me of Decibel, yet this is a little more refined and the overall fresher smell makes it more masculine. Fits me well, however it does not last too long on my skin, maybe around 7-8 hours max. I would definitely wear this again!

Overall it feels lighter than the original which I own and love. Having the original Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Eau de Parfum is redulant to buy this new Ideal which is almost the same. The difference is that the old scent is warmer and more cozy than this new.
Dominant notes are almonds which is the big boss and very mild smoke. At the opening there is a faint jammy rose as many say but it dies quickly.
Longevity is a little better than the average and the sillage/projection are moderate. It’s a pleasant scentfor fall/winter and early spring but it is redulant if you already have the old edp Ideal.
Read the review of NotATroll who sumarize the description of this scent very well.

2018 release in IDEAL lineup & best so far. It has the DNA Guerlinade but less sweet than some past releases. It is classy, elegant and completely unisex. Nice combination of notes without any of them overshadowing the other. Great to have a sprinkling of chili to spice up the rose.

  30. :

This is remarkably well done. Very balanced between sweet and smoky. I actually like this more than the other Ideals. However, not sure about the longevity. I sprayed my wrist but had trouble smelling it just 1 hour later, definitely not a sillage bomb.

Lovely lovely lovely scent, not offensive but also not intensive. My favourite from IDEAL range and only one I bought. Have kinda chili-smoky-sweet vibe. Got compliments from boss and my partner of course. Today is a third day I wear L’intense and really enjoy it. This one gonna work perfect during summer nights for me. My only problem is projection. I was hoping for something much stronger.

A more pungent version of the EdP. Not as nice..

  33. :

    4 out of 5

To me, this was extremely harsh, too strong, too blunt.
I had to wash off my hands, because I couldn’t stand the fragrance.
I am very disappointed by the whole LHI line.

  34. :

    3 out of 5

I find it better than the EDP or EDT in the sense that the synthetic Cherry acord is more mellow. The leather is a main player here, more than the rose and it gives that Dior Homme Parfum vibe, but at the same time keeping the DNA of the L’homme. Nothing groundbreaking. I don’t own any from the L’homme series, but if I were to pick one, I’d go straight for this one as it is better balanced than the others.
Also on the performance category, it doesn’t seem to scream, average projection. Only tested briefly.

  35. :

    3 out of 5

Tested today on the back of hand. Somewhat underwhelmed as I expected more oomph on the rose accord. It appears as if they found a middle ground between EdT and EdP, leaning more towards the EdP that I prefer.
This latest version comes across as much sweeter than the EdP (which I still prefer the most as it is somewhat drier and better balanced). I love the Neroli/ Amaretto of the first EdT release that was already sweet enough, but this one is just as sweet if not sweeter and darker due to incense.
I don’t know……I am confused: given that it is May, I feel this is a release that does not fit into the season, as I am focussing presently on chypre and florals that are lighter and fresher.
Look, it is a great performing product, but if you’re expecting a game-changing, completely different version, you are mistaken.
Verdict: 5/10 because it isn’t significantly different to EdT or EdP and launched at the wrong time of year.

  36. :

    5 out of 5

This is basically the edp minus the cherry note and with a rose note on top-mid. It’s good, but i prefer the edp. The rose it’s not that proeminent.. It’s there but doesn’t make the fragrance feminine or very clean and powdery. So, if you don’t like rose, you can try (and like) this, cause the rose here won’t choke you up.

  37. :

    3 out of 5

Im assuming for someone who hates rose in fragrance this is probably a no go?? Is rose upfront in your face start to finish ??

  38. :

    4 out of 5

Just smelled this in the Guerlain shop and they gave me a few samples to take with me too which was nice. This in my eyes is quite different than the previous versions and is definitely more daring. The chilli and smoke is quite prominent here but well blended with that signature l’homme ideal DNA underneath.
I’m 26 and I think this is too mature for me, I see someone 35+ wearing this. I think this is a quality release – just not for me.

Please restore some order and dignity on this site and reset the votes and “this perfume reminds me of” section. Thank you
