I bought L’Ether on my recent trip to Paris in the beautifully Zen shop near Hotel Costes. I loved all IUNX fragrances, that you can smell in the boutique through ingenious “smelling pods” that give you a way better idea of the fragrance than spraying them on paper strips.
My favourite was L’Ether, that is indeed reminiscent of Passage d’Enfer and of Penhaligon’s Elixir, but more refined than either of these. I had and loved Elixir, but found the balance slightly off, with too much rosewood thrown in the bargain. In l’Ether the proportions are just perfect. I cannot smell rosewood in this perfume, nor is it given among the ingredients on the IUNX homepage, but there definitely is a hint of beautiful rose, together with resinous and incense notes, including my favourite benzoin that gives warmth and sweetness to the composition, aided with deliciously creamy sandalwood.
L’Ether is more harmonious than either Elixir or PdE, much more rounded, three dimensional, perfectly round and smooth, a transparent, undulating haze that envelops you for many hours. Longevity is really good, about 10 hours on skin, much more on fabric. It is definitely not a sillage monster, but people who come close to you will notice (and most probably compliment you on) it. I find it completely unisex.
L’Ether is a beautifully quiet, calming, introspective fragrance, one that has the ability to transport you to another dimension, one of silent tranquility and ineffable, serene beauty.
You can only buy this perfume in Paris, in the two boutiques of IUNX. If you ever happen to be in this amazing city, pay them a visit, I am sure you will enjoy it!
