Description

The original fragrance from Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey from 1992 already got two absolute editions: Noir from 2010 and Gold from 2011. New L’Eau d’Issey Absolue launches in January 2013 as a limited edition for that year.

The scent is inspired by ambery light cast by the sun at its sunset and jasmine flowers that bloom at night. The composition is bright and intense, blending floral notes of freesia and lotus with the heart of night blooming jasmine (“Queen of the Night”), honey from Provence and sensual tuberose. The base notes include Bourbon vanilla and precious woods. It was created by perfumer Olivier Cresp.

The fragrance is available as 25, 50 and 90 ml Eau de Parfum.

I am not fond of spicey scent, hence issey miyake includes. The only issey miyake i ever own is this one and pleats please. L’eau absolue for me still has the original dna of classic issey miyake. But this one i can’t say no… love love love… it has white floral and honey scent…jasmine, tuberose and honey playing they role on the top, mid and dry down. Jasmine jasmine jasmine that’s all i can say… i say yes for repurchase.

i bought a decant to sniff it out. it snells like jadore by dior to my nose. i was expecting something sweeter but the honey seems to be taking the back seat on me. i guess leau dissey pure nectar is more my cup pf tea .

I’m so in love with honey scents at the moment. I’ve had this for a while now. When I first tried it, I loved the smell, but was soooo disappointed with longevity. It seemed to only last a few hours. Btw I have the real thing, it’s not a fake. My skin just seemed to absorb it.
Been giving it another go the last week and I don’t know what’s happened but it now lasts and lasts. I’m hooked. Just like my Le Parfume Absolut, I can’t stop smelling it. LPA has stronger silage, but this one’s just for me and my man. Delicious honey and tuborose. Don’t get powdery at all.

Take the original and add heavy cream and honey. I can’t stop spaying, even my dog got a little squirt after her bath.

There are many of Issey Miyake creations that I adore, but this one has a powder element that doesn’t work for me. This was a blind buy, and I think maybe the honey note doesn’t work with my chemistry. It also seems to be a stronger floral concentration than I thought it would be and induced a headache, but perhaps I am more sensitive to that than most. Have to gift this one away.

Beautiful bottle. A no-frills intense tuberose and honey, agree that it’s perfect for summer nights. Rather intoxicating, possibly a little heady for daily use.

Honey, white flowers, a warm spring morning… First three things that spring into mind when first smelling this perfume.
Sophisticated and feminine this is a perfect daytime scent.
You can almost smell the gold in this bottle!
Was a blind buy, but would definitely purchase again.

White Floral and sweet,a little powdery but fresh and still a little bit aquatic.Mature and sexy!

I love the sweet floweriness that is still grown-up. Very beautiful, soft, interesting scent.

Oh God! White flowers dipped in honey! That’s exactly what it smells like! LOOOOVEEEE!

  12. :

I smell mostly honey in L’Eau d’Issey Absolue. In the beginning there are also tuberose and jasmine with a very naturalistic floral scent, but soon the aquatic lotus and the typical fresh Issey-DNA overpower the white flowers. Honey and the aquatic accord clash and fight for the upper hand in this fragrance. In the end, honey wins on me.
While I usually like sweet fragrances and thought this combination of notes could be interesting, I don’t like this one. On my skin it’s sweet in an abrasive way, unbalanced and messy. The honey has something thick and sickly to it. Catching a whiff of this is okay, but I would not want to smell like that at all.
Sorry for the negative review, maybe it’s nice on someone else, but I was glad to wash it off at the end of the day.

I initially wanted to buy the original Eau d’Issey, but I ended up buying this instead, when I sensed the tuberose-honey mix in this, which smells divine, while also keeping the original DNA of the original. At the moment I do not think I will buy the original until I’ve finished this one. It is not the same perfume, they are pretty much different, but still similar, so maybe you do not need both

Got this for cheap at Ross and let it sit on my vanity for months before trying it. I had only sniffed the sprayer upon opening and it smelled so much like the original Issey which I already have so I was saving it as a backup.
Fortunately one summer day I sprayed it on my skin and discovered that although the first notes are totally Issey cool, slightly metallic and sophisticated, the middle and back end were warm, luscious, tuberose and honey, in perfect balance not too indolic or animalic and not too sweet but still round and full. What a great surprise! I like this better than the original Issey for summer and fall.

Golden honey and jasmine. Im honestly in love with this perfume. Its warm and sensual. Definitely one of my favorites.

I feel like it is similar to the Issey Miyake pure but I prefer that one. This one is nice but it smells a bit too much of honeysuckle to my nose which I don’t love. Like but not a love for me

The moment I stepped outside, I instantly attracted not 1, not 2, but 3 buzzy bees which terrified me. I literally had to flick one off me which was way too close for comfort. Now, if only it can attract me the right husband material lol. Scent wise, it is certainly growing on me. No doubt it is a jasmine scent but done quite tastefully. Wasn’t love at first but am going to give it time.

I saw this and thought the bottle was elegant so thought i would try, smelt good on the test card so tried on my skin and wow the floral in this with my skin chemistry was so strong it was like i was being slapped in the face with freesia over and over again for hours. Unfortunatly this is not for me, i could detect the sweet honey in there but other than that for me unfortunatly was 1 dimensional and too strong. However sileage is great and longivity too, definitly for lovers of floral. Has all the makings of a great scent just dosent work with my skin chemistry

Weird at first and unbalanced but it really transforms on skin.
Turns almost smokey, along with rich vanilla that isn’t overly sweet.
I didn’t notice the honey that much but it does intensify during the dry down.
Overal i think this is super feminine and pretty.

Im in love with this gorgeous fragrance! tuberose dipped in honey, with vanilla and wood. I love it!

  21. :

A perfume not appreciated enough. It is on par with iconic perfumes and is not afraid to compete with them.
Not a typical chypre, but I get chypre. Absolue flaker is free of the watery-floritst’s refrigerator feeling and lacks the fruit too. It is oily, a wrist cracker, packed with flowers; it’s basically flowers and flowers throughout and throughout. The blend is excellent, i won’t bother explaining the notes; the most intense note at least on my skin is tuberose, the same as in Orchid Soleil Tom Ford. Honey is prominent for the first hour of wear, it softens later. Don’t be afraid of the wood, it is just enough to prolong the wear of the perfume. Also vanilla is barely there, adds some warmth, and that’s it. It is sour, not sweet at all.
I feel luxurious drenched with the scent. I’m of course mad at myself a little, for not paying enough attention to the Issey Miyake counter, for discovering the Absolue version so late. Of course I love the original, it’s perfect by itself and layered. This is a perfect older brother for the original, thicker, just enough heavier and more glamorous.
Perfect for all ages. Ideal for all year round, although it might seem cold and distant for winter. Long lasting but seems that it stays close to the skin; not unnoticeable though; as i entered home it left enough trail for family members to ask. Their comments: “oh it’s like summer” , “very lady-like” and….”a little old”(that from a younger 22year old relative of mine whose perception of perfume is distorted by tacky concoctions)

Gorgeous bottle but not my type of perfume. I blind bought 1.6 ozs of this today. If anyone would like to trade, let me know.
It smells like a softer version of “Sunflowers” by Elizabeth Arden.

I’ve been on the hunt for some honey and I found it!
This one gets a huge thumbs up from me because I always struggle to find a suitable summer fragrance – anything citrus, cucumber or guava goes awful on me. This one has tuberose, which I love, but it’s not overpowering.
    This one is perfect.

Just received a sample in the mail. This is virtually indistinguishable from the Gold Absolue edition. Lots and lots of lotus and freesia! I do detect the honey as well, but I was hoping for something a bit warmer. This one is definitely more on the aquatic end of the spectrum.

Oh my word this is gorgeous! Smooth is the first word that comes to mind. A little sweet,a little powdery, with bourbon vanilla in the drydown. Fantastic..:-) Suitable for all occasions day or night, any season.
Exit…the florals in this are so authentic! Just wonderful..awesome blind buy from all the excellent reviews.

This is fabulous!! Aquatic lotus blended perfectly with sweet honey and crisp freesia. I get much more freesia than the votes suggest. This is a nice option on a hot day for those who can’t handle bitter citrus or overly watery “fresh”. I wore this yesterday on an unseasonably hot Canadian spring day (25C) and it was perfect. It’s not too sweet for a hot day, it’s just sweet enough with a touch of powder.

  27. :

I like it, but for me it smells like pure Jasmine (with a slightly woody base) – I would not have guessed all the other notes listed here.

  28. :

I recently tried this and was pleasantly surprised. It has the aquatics of the original L’eau D’Issey but the honey gives softens it to an almost powdery scent. I have a generous sample and I have found myself going to it again and again so eventually I will bite the bullet and buy a full sized bottle.
I can see this being wearable in both the warmer months and the cooler months. The aquatics and honey play very well together.
It’s both refreshing and soothing, and perfect for day to evening wear.

I have never been a big fan of Issey Miyake, that’s because I’m trying it just now, but I think it’s surprisingly good.
Lotus is the strongest note, but there’s also mild honey and vanilla. It has an aquatic feel to it.
It is a perfect scent for a classy lady. Suitable for every age, but needs someone who is sophisticated. If it’s worn as everyday scent, at least classic coat and high heels must be part of the outfit too.
It reminds me of pure elegance and sophistication.

I wore the original L’Eau d’Issey to death in the 90’s and was never much interested in any of the flankers, as they all seemed to be generic fruity-floral takes on the original, but this one is absolutely gorgeous. Although it bears a strong resemblance to the original, it contains the most realistic jasmine and honey combo. It’s like sticking your nose directly into a blooming jasmine bush. Highly recommended for those who loved the original back in the day but have grown out of it. This is a more sophisticated version.

  32. :

    5 out of 5

Aquatic and white-flowers is predominantly what I get from this. I don’t mind, except it has a ‘vinegary’ spike, which is a little off-putting. I get a hint of the honey and vanilla, but only a hint – enough to distinguish this from the original.
I wore this around the house at night, and I would say that this could probably be worn throughout the seasons – maybe it would smell better during the summer – maybe the vanilla and honey would become more apparent. A little disappointing, but I’m glad to have got this in the 25ml (and no more than this) – it was a blind buy, based on the main accords.

what a georgeous idea to add some honey into D´issey! now I like it too, even thoug Im not a fan of the previous Gold Absolue Edition (buit I bought it anyway just because of the beautiful bottle) – too sharp due to the lack of honey. this one is less sharp and more softly feminine rounded with the light sweetness. perfect. the besst one of all D´isseys so far!

Love this flanker. The opening note reminds me of jasmine green tea that my mom loved to drink. It’s aromatic, warm, citrusy a bit musky. The golden color of the bottle and the juice is an accurate representation. I wear it and I love it.

Omg beauty on a bottle….Issey miyake absolute is delicious and so addictive. Star with a blast of honey vanilla and lotus flower… To me smell exactly like sugar cookies…the beginning is strong and scream with a sensual voice…!please just wait 5 seconds and you will know me! And then the magic happens. I imagine myself on ferragamo shoes, black pants and a beautiful white shirt and showing all my colorful tattoos… Issey miyake is one of my favorite brands…total perfection

After reading all the reviews and being thoroughly in love with Issey’s Fleur De Bois, I couldn’t wait to try this and yet again I’ve been mislead 🙁 On my skin, at first spritz it smelled like a lighter version of Sunflowers, only to quickly change into a cheap “lily of the valley” scent…10 minutes into the game and it’s turned soapy/clean…ummm no thank you, I’ll pass. These perfumes are too expensive to smell this “meh”. If you like to get a bang for your buck avoid this perfume. It doesn’t have the wow factor you’d expect from Issey Miyake :/

  41. :

    4 out of 5

Issey Miyake as brand has never really grabbed my attention until now. L’eau d’Issey Absolue is divine and is probably the least aquatic scent from this brand, (which works perfectly for me).
This fragrance is an elegant and feminine honeyed floral. I can’t seem to detect any accord in this flanker that ties it to the original L’eau d’Issey. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy the original fragrance, but seeing that I don’t usually wear floral aquatics it was never something I felt compelled to own. L’eau d’Issey Absolue on the other hand is definitely something I could wear with pride.
Creamy tuberose and sugary honey are the most dominant notes on my skin, followed by a subtle hint of watery lotus to freshen the composition. This fragrance is to me a classy evening scent for Summer. Wear the original when on the beach in a bikini and wear this flanker with your diamonds on an evening out.
I understand that some are disappointed in this fragrance, especially seeing that the name ‘absolue’ suggests that this flanker is a more concentrated version of the original. It would have been wiser to release this fragrance under a new name, unrelated to its popular aquatic predecessor. I will agree that the name is rather misleading.
I’m bitterly disappointed that L’eau d’Issey Absolue is a limited edition. I would have loved to have seen this fragrance become a regularly produced fragrance for this brand. My advice is to grab the remaining bottles while you still can.

Issey Miyake is my 2nd favourite fragrance (well, it could be the 1st just as well but Eternity is my signature fragrance) and, to my great surprise, I have fallen in love with every single special edition of this perfume. They are all GORGEOUS!
The first and most important thing about the new editions of Issey Miyake is that the original base was preserved in all of them- you are really wearing your favourite perfume, be it the original, floral, lotus or absolute version only each time, it’s a new feeling. I could almost wear them depending on how I feel.
The 2nd great thing about them is that the fragrance really echoes the name in each case.
ABsolute is, indeed, the richer, more mysterious and more serious version of the original. When I say “serious”, I mean it in the most positive way. It’s a grown up Issey Miyake that can still be worn by a very young woman.
And, when they say- honey, they mean honey! It really is Issey Miyake with honey (no lemon 😀 ). A similar scent can be found in Sunflowers by E.Arden.
It’s not too sweet ‘tho which, IMHO, is really important because an average fan of the original would hardly appreciate a very sweet perfume.
I don’t think I can detect vanilla either but it is certainly somewhere in there, well blended into this orgasmic bouquet of flowers, honey and fresh water.
All in all a real jewel and, most importantly, still an Issey Miyake. Worth the price. Worth sparing money.

I am fond of the Issey Miyaki aquatics I have several flankers but this one is my favourite. It still gives a subtle nod to the original with a slight aquatic undertone from the lotus but this one is softer more gentle. It has a powdery quality more floral and of course the obvious honey note.I also love white florals but live in a very hot climate so find my usual suspects to heavy . This is the perfect blend for me . The lotus manages to lift it to a slightly fresher plane so I am able to continue to wear this in the warmer weather it never becomes cloying or overwhelming but it has some depth and warmth to it so it is a change from the normal clean bright fresh citruses and aquatics normally worn in the heat of summer. It is easy to wear has good longevity and enough projection that I can continue to smell wafts of fragrance throughout the day. I find this to be a great all round scent . You can wear it to work or you can wear it out I have even worn it to the beach . If you like aquatics and you like white florals I highly recommend giving it a try .

  44. :

    4 out of 5

L’eau d’Issey Absolue is what I’d describe as the big and sophisticated sister of the original. It truly is a golden scent. In the opening, the reminiscence of the original is well noted, but a bit more rounded as opposed to the sharpness of the original.
That is where the comparison between the two sort of ends. The heart blossoms with sweet honey as the most noticable note and fades away with woodsy notes after about 2-3 hours. I find the lasting power to be a disappointment.
It is a beautiful scent but probably won’t appeal to the general masses. I’d recommend for ages 30 and up for daywear.
It’s not my favourite flanker in the L’eau d’Issey line (Eau florale is my absolute favourite) and I won’t be buying a bottle but it was an interresting testing session and I encourage all you amateur perfumistas to take a whiff, just for the fun of it!

This smells like a hybrid of the original L’Eau d’Issey and Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers to me. Very early 90s!

  46. :

For me it is the same Issey but much more concentrated, more floral and with some honey vanilla notes. A bit sharp but still in a very delicate way.

    Nice floral ……….

  48. :

This is a sweet fragrance with honey and jasmine (although it is not listed, this is a jasmine-intense scent). I’m sorry to say that it is nothing uncommon or rare. May even be a bit generic. However it is very strong, and has good sillage in the first few hours. It is still there on my coat where the salesman sprayed it after 2 days, but of course you have to get your nose very close to the fabric to detect it.

  49. :

    3 out of 5

Where L’eau d’Issey is a rather abstract interpretation of a cool Japanse garden with blooming lotus flowers, Absolue is a real flower. A jasmine flower. Or rather: a whole jasmine bush. A little green, a little wet, and bursting with honey.
The honey note is very realistic and tends to overpower the floral notes sometimes, but the flowers still manage to bring some freshness to the fragrance.
L’eau d’Issey’s signature aquatic notes are still here, but slightly subdued. Somehow, they work magic with the honey, making sure Absolue is never too dense, never too cloying.
In the base, the honey becomes even stronger and I get a very realistic, animalic, almost sour honey note on my skin, mixed with just a hint of soft, velvety vanilla.
But in the end, Absolue is just very much a gorgeous realistic white floral.
It’s a scent for lush summer nights, the air heavy with fragrance. The kind of nights that barely bring any relieve from the heat of the day.
Or maybe just for a memory of such nights.

  50. :

    3 out of 5

Very nice. I definitely get a soft but warm honey scent, though it feels fresh when first applied. And it actually lasts a while, just a shame it’s so faint. I like my perfumes to have some projection.
Edit: I tried this on yesterday and sprayed a bit more liberally, and the sillage wasn’t as weak as I originally though. The longevity wasn’t bad either. I sprayed it early in the morning and could feel it all day long, though it became faint sometime mid-afternoon. I should also add that it is a warm and sweet honey scent, but also a bit dry. I miss feeling other notes to give it more complexity, which is why I wouldn’t purchase this, but I still give it my stamp of approval.

  51. :

    4 out of 5

I like the original L’eau d’Issey very much and this is even better! I love the honey and vanilla tones, which make this edition warmer an elegant, yet not too heavy. Unfortunately, it doesn’t last very long on my skin…

Love the honey tuberose and vanilla combo. Really rich and warm. The top notes slightly remind me of the original EDP which is a good thing but not a love for me. This new version is way creamier and sweeter. It’s sort of like Jadore mixed with Flash.
    It’s a sweet white floral!

  56. :

    3 out of 5

Well new review as I bought a 10 ml, still unsure I would go for a big bottle, this is a rich scent, at first it reminds me of J’ Adore, it has that golden floral touch, for me the best part is the drydown, smooth, creamy, a bit sweet, lovely…the top notes are a bit strong, and remind me a tiny bit of Eau d’ Issey which I totally hate!!
The tuberose is subtle, I can’t really detect too much honey either , but being a fan of white florals, I thought I might like this, and the bottle is golden like the impression the scent gives .
All in all, interesting, but not a love for me.

  57. :

    3 out of 5

Elegant, sophisticated… modern, definitely a work scent, but a gallery owner work scent.

  58. :

    4 out of 5

This is like two perfumes in one…the top notes have little relation to the drydown. It begins very fresh, similar to the original l’eau d’issey, then transforms into a subtle, warm honeyed base note. It’s confusing – an ozonic gourmand? I like both stages of the fragrance, just not sure if I want them one after the other…

Any other ones similar to this ?? As this seems to be a limited edition..

You’re absolutely right about Lys soleia! They have the same sweet creamy sunny effect although light and summer feeling fragrances. I love Lys soleia and I love issey absolue also. It may not be a wow! perfume, but it’s very wearable and sensual together.

  62. :

    4 out of 5

This is unexpected: It reminds me of Guerlain Acqua Allegoria Lys Soleia, which I love for summer. It has very similar sunny floral notes. It might be the tuberose that smells a bit like the lily in Lys Soleia. Eau d’ Issey Absolue fades to a slightly generic summer fragrance though, and the freesia dominates the composition in its later stages. Quite nice, but forgettable.

Tried this yesterday at the mall. Wow! I’ve been looking for some time for a new signature fragrance. It has to be floral and elegant but also it has to have something sassy. Not too light not too overwhelming. Speak out loud but in a warm manner. Create a warm feeling, a beautiful state of mind. For now Miracle by lancome has done that for me. But then I had to keep looking again. Summer by Kenzo has brought delicacy and sensuality in my heart, made me feel sexy and inlove.
And yesterday I smelled a flavour that combined those two. I’ve been looking like crazy for a floral to really love, and this is it- pure and strong at the same time. With a hint of sensuous and romantic, blended together in clean and classic 🙂 It really exceeded my expectations. Made me have that summery feeling in my heart, told me a story about happy love.
Not sure about the staying power, I want it so much though. Too bad its a limited edition…

I found this version very bitter and sharp. The SA said that it was Lilac… I haven’t tried it on my skin, but on paper strip I didn’t recognize anything from the original, it was like testing an entirely different perfume.

this edition of l’eau d’issey has suprised me… it starts very sharp… althought i can imell white flowers… its almost bitter…. then wen its settles down on my skin..it becomes so beautiful… its turns powdery n a lil bit sweet…. this was a nice suprise…im glad i bought it….

A “zen” scent. Definately suitable for work allthough pricey.
I’ve been wearing it for an hour now and it reminds me of Poême so much. And fortunately I adore Poême, I consider it one of the best scent ever made. This feels to me like a summer version of Poême :-). Lovely, delicate, sweet, “thinner” than poême. I guess it’s the honey. Like Taliera said, a fresh plucked flower, which scent lingers through the room. A true comfort scent.
I get jasmin, honey and tuberose, perfectly blended to my nose. Not too sour, not too air-freshner, not too sweet. Glad I bought this one. I can’t imagine you could offend someone while wearing this. It’s definately noticeable but I would be amazed if anyone could truely dislike this fragrance. It might not be everyone’s favourite, but even if someone doesn’t like florals, he/she would be able to tolerate it on someone else. On the other hand, the fact that it’s easily appreciated could make it quite boring for some of us.
I imagine a confident, youthful, optimistic woman wearing this and feeling extremely “zen”. A ladylike woman walking through life with a smile. In my opinion not a fragrance for teens. Perfect floral spring-summer scent for age 20 and up. I don’t know what the jasmin will bring with hotter weather though. It could possibly get a bit cloying.
If you want superspicy & superloud, don’t try this one.

White flower’s swords almost killing me…
    It’s very similar to L’eau D’issey Gold absolute…
Atctually, I feel similarity all every limited edition of L’eau D’isseyes.

Oh, I could be draped in this. Olivier Cresp has made another masterpiece! This is beautiful and perfectly balanced. It has honey and vanilla in it, but is the quintessential white floral. Immediately I noticed similarities with J’Adore, but Absolue is more delicate. And when I brought it home, to my disappointment it smelt just like something else in my collection: Marc Jacobs signature. However, I have decided not to take it back because it is sufficiently different, in the sense that Marc Jacobs is more “watery”. Absolue is also watery (due to the lotus) but not as much as Marc Jacobs. Absolue is really pure, and because of the purity it smells a lot like gardenia. The note is actually tuberose – but I often mistake tuberose for gardenia (or vice versa). It also reminds me of daphne (does anyone else know this flower? I don’t think it has ever been represented in perfumery). What is so exceptional about this fragrance is that it really smells like a flower. Like a REAL freshly picked one – not the essential oil version. IMO, nothing smells as beautiful as a real flower, as the scent is unmatchable, but this comes pretty close. Overall, I would describe it as soft, pure, silky and golden. Definitely for floral lovers. But I think it will most appeal to white floral lovers.
