Part of the Orientale trilogy (a subset of the exclusive Le Gemme collection), Lazulia is certainly a curious case of conceptual design. The perfume breaks the synaesthetic expectation with respect to blue fragrances and their light and aquatic connotations and follows a path of Arab interpretation, honoring the origins of the lazulite stone that inspires it. Yet, the perfume itself is also not typically Arab scent as we might expect by including incense and agarwood in the composition. Instead, the perfumer Daniela Andrier freely interprets the theme and concept of the thousand and one nights that the brand proposes.
From an olfactory point of view. Lazulia is sober and sensual at the same time, it is like an exercise in minimalism in a type of perfumery that is just the opposite of minimalism. The Aroma itself seems to me to be between a modern floral chypre and an oriental floral, with a shape that sits between a sweet patchouli and an abstraction of an agarwood floral incense. In the same way as the theme of the woods the flowers end up acquiring an abstract connotation as well: there are certainly nuances of roses between the aspects of incense, patchouli and oud while one perceives a more adult jasmine without being very fruity, showing the delicate, lactonic and sweet side of the flower.
As many of the minimalist creations of Daniela Andrier Lazulia is simple and straightforward, having a good tenacity on the skin without having an exaggerated sillage that dominates the environment. It is a type of composition that seems to please a clientele who wants perfumes with the Eastern theme and the execution of a silk. We may be in the sensuality of a thousand and one nights, but far from the most carnal and erotic aspect of the tales.

Sweet jasmine smell on a background of incense. I really like it but it’s way overpriced because it is a “private blend”.

Lazulia does not smell of Jasmine, Incense and Oud. Don’t let the notes fool you, it has so much more going on. It opens up with a bubblegum accord, a sweet pink bubblegum to be exact, with a good dose of slightly bitter agarwood. As it settles, I smell a sweet red rose, a hint of non indolic jasmine and a soothing warmth from the incense.
It smells almost edible in the beginning but that soon changes. It takes a slightly different turn in the drydown. It becomes more floral and warm on the skin, it blooms and becomes deeper and richer. The notes are so well blended you can’t really identify each one individually except for the incense which is always present in the background.
Lazulia is a sweet, modern floral with woods and incence. To me, it smells like modern day pot pourri and sweet pink bubblegum. It is comforting and snuggly, perfect for the colder months.
    Sillage: Moderate to Good
    Longevity: 5-6 hours
