Layton Exclusif Parfums de Marly for women and men of Parfums de Marly

Description

Layton Exclusif is an elegant and luxurious fragrance made up of the finest ingredients.
The aroma opens with the notes of almond and bergamot attenuated by the sweetness of mandarin. The watery notes add a bit of expressiveness to the bouquet.
In the “heart” of the fragrance we find pink and gardenia arrangements contrasted with a geranium touch and with a tender and almost imperceptible water lily. Zibet notes give an animal-like feel to the perfume.
The base is formed by Paraguay’s guaiac accords, Laos agarwood, Indonesia’s patchouli, and an extraordinary Ceylon sandal. The notes of amber and moss seasoned with pink pepper and vanilla soften the woody nuances making the composition rich and enveloping.
A pinch of coffee adds a sensual and expressive touch.” – a note from the brand.

Layton Exclusif was launched in 2017. The nose behind this fragrance is Hamid Merati-Kashani.

I just received this sexy beast. I was a bit apprehensive from reading all the negative reviews. However, I bought it away…I opened it and sprayed it on—this is one of the best fragrances I’ve ever smelt…and I have over 300 bottles. I am in my late 40s so, this type of fragrance fits my personality and demeanor well. Gentlemen, this fragrance is sexy, alluring, and draws women in…my wife just asked me what I was wearing and she loves it! Just saying, in my opinion, this is a fragrance women will definitely enjoy on a man with the right chemistry and personality. It’s unique, masculine, and sexy! Guys, I blind bought this and I have no regrets…this is a “show stopper” for sure. I am in VA and the temp is currently about 78 degrees and this stuff is “beast mode,” I can’t wait until it cools off…this will get lots of use in the fall and winter…awesome!

A discreet Oriental chypre composition, this “exclusive” edition of the PdM hit Layton, takes many of the same notes of the original composition and adds a few bolder ones to create a more sensual experience. The perfume begins on a citrusy note with orange, lemon, almond and an ozonic note. It proceeds to a heart comprised of florals (rose, geranium, lily) and a slight touch of synthetic civet. Finally it dries into a mossy powdery base of moss, sandalwood, tonka bean, amber, patchouli, pepper, oud and guaiac wood. Unisex (slight masculine leaning) with moderate to strong sillage and very good longevity. The perfume in my opinion comes across as a bit of an oddball, an attempt to make a “safe” Oriental and cash it on the tremendous success of the original non-exclusive version. This is not one of PdMs better offerings in my opinion as it does not really stand out as unique or particularly innovative. But it is still a very elegant and wearable composition. Enjoy!

This isn’t Layton, it’s a completely different composition and beautiful in it’s own right. Layton Exclusif is a daring, edgy fragrance with lots of strong oud. It’s a cool weather fragrance and not nearly as congenial as Layton. I do happen to like this quite a bit, but this isn’t something you wear to get compliments. You wear this because you like it and don’t care what anyone else thinks. This is Layton’s bad ass older brother. I don’t recommend blind buying.
    Scent: 9/10
    Longevity: 10/10
    Projection: 10/10
    Bad Ass Factor: 10/10

A complete well rounded fragrance. Now a staple in my collection. standout notes for me are oud, coffee/cocoa, vanilla

I’M a HUGE Parfum De Marly fan. Herod and Ispazon are amongst my all time faves.
For me Layton Exclusif is a nice scent but simply overrated. Slightly left field.
Arsenal Till I Die has a perfect description.
As a simple description I would describe it as a Deep sweet wood with a touch of sweet incense and a smidge of orange in the back ground. I get most of the notes in the Pyramid though coffee is a stretch or its so mixed in I can’t really pick it. I would say I interpret one of the main smells as even an earthy nutmeg.
For me this is somewhere between the Original Layton (which smelled somewhat similar to Oajan, Habdan and Hamdani obviously sharing a common base and making it infact unoriginal) and PDM Galloway which is very animalic. Someone suggested it was like a Civet wearing Layton – spot on IMO. Any suggestion it is not alike is wrong – it has an obvious common DNA and I prefer Exclusif as it is just that extra step enough to separate it from a number of PDM.
Anyway – considering the exclusivity, money and hype I can only see this as a disappointing marketing ploy and would certainly not buy another bottle, I had no choice this time as I can not get samples or purchase it locally.
Though I am still a big PDM fan I’m feeling a bit tainted and weary now of what people say tor their opinions. I’ve been lucky so far as all my PDM were a blind buy…
This is one of those perfumes that is more of a personal scent. A little different to the average offers… not for business, not for showing off.
Whilst its grown on me more and more during the day to the point I would want to wear it regularly I would not buy another bottle but would gladly accept a freebie 🙂

    Scent – sweet incense.
Season/Time of Day – I prefer to use this one in the colder months, day or night.
    Projection – I didn’t get noticed, I didn’t get a compliment.
    Longevity – I get 6hrs consistently.

I was a bit taken back by this at first spray. Very bold and masculine. Almost ashy. No funk here either. Just a beefed up more macho version of the original and it’s a great scent retaining the original DNA in the background. The lavender isn’t here so it’s not as piercing in the beginning. Drydown is smoother than the original as well and doesn’t turn musty on my skin, more woody with a nice subtle sweetness. The introduction of the almond note is tops in my opinion. Can come across as harsh if you smell it up close but the sillage on this is great! This one grew on me just like the original but dare I say it I think I like this one better.

    3 words. DON’T BLIND BUY!!!
I was really excited about this one because i have and enjoy the original Layton.
And after seeing many good reviews… I did it, yes, i blind bought it.
    Boy was i disappointed.
    They really ruined layton!
    Way too many notes.
    A jumbled unpleasant mess.
The Guaiac Wood, Laotian Oud & Civet are unpleasant and clumsy.
I’m serious it doesn’t smell good.
    I wouldn’t pay 20 dollars for this.
Sorry folks but that’s how i feel about this one.
They took something good and ruined it.

Beautiful fragrance. But for the price I would rather recommend mancera black gold. It is defferent but it is on the same fruity ashy oud vane with super performance and value for money.

Similar to the original layton in the opening, but with a bit more oriental, deeper and oud’ish tones. Even a bit animalistic. The drydown is actually very similar to the drydown of Interlude Man with oud and vanilla notes.
Overall a very solid release. I like both laytons, but personally I prefer the original much more. Its easier to wear. The original layton simply smell better imo. The benefit of layton is that it is a crowd pleasing fragrance with niche quality. I appreciate this aspect. However, the exclusif does not get as good score as the original in my book on this area. Layton exclusif is the weird twin brother of the original. The original is beautyful, exclusif is rough.
Layton exclusif smells like a civet wearing the original Layton.

Following my original Layton review earlier this morning, Layton Exclusif is a much more oriental version of Layton. While Layton Exclusif might not garner as much compliments from women as well as the original, it ironically gets more compliments from men. Funny enough, I think more guys have complimented me on this scent than females have. And the thing is, in my personal opinion, I like LE better than Layton too. LE is definitely the fragrance for a guy who just doesn’t care. It’s for a guy who’s not trying too hard and just want a dam great quality fragrance! Luxurious, spicy, and woody! Also, extremely hard to get your hands on, but if you do and your wallet allows you to, GET IT!
    Longevity: Amazing 9.5/10 easily
    Sillage: Very strong 9.5/10
    Scent: 10/10
    Compliments (from women): 5/10
    Compliments (from men): 10/10
A definite must-buy fragrance if you’re the kind of guy who just wants to a luxurious, long-lasting, boss of a fragrance.

this smells so woody to me… its just BAD
Layton would be my choice above this one.
Layton is more minty and fresh, this one just makes me feel that I am in a (moldy) treehouse or something… can’t imagine ppl like that…

  15. :

This is very similar to Habdan….wore both back to back and realized they are so alike. I prefer Layton…better projection and longevity…otherwise they to me were the same. So, save your $$ and don’t buy both.

I do not know what is is with me and PDM. I cannot find one of their fragrances that works for me.
Layton excl is a patchouli bomb on my skin, with a bit of citrus the first 5 minutes. Longevity is impressive, but I am not sure I do appreciate that. I am about to shrub this off after 5 hours. Just too much.

I have been wearing this fragrance for a while now since it was first released.
Firstly, the notes: There is not a single drop of oud in this, if there was, PDM would be singing and dancing about it on their website. What people are smelling is probably a mixture of the guaiac, musk, and civet.
This is from their website: “The head notes offer generous, spirited, explosive bergamot, with rose and geranium vying to add elegance. In the base note, a hint of cardamom mingles with sandalwood and guaiac, emphasising all the nobility of wood. On the skin, the sudden turmoil is total thanks to the distinctive, evocative hint of caramelised coffee.”
It has a similar DNA to the original Layton, especially in the base notes. There is a lovely caramelised coffee note in the base of both (And I hate coffee, but this is nice). The apple and mandarin have been removed from the original Layton and replaced by darker and woodier notes.
The longevity is good and it keeps coming back to hit you when you think its gone. The sillage is good for 1-2 hours and afterward becomes very much a close to the body-scent, it never goes into beast-mode which is disappointing considering the price.
The atomiser on this comes out like a water-hose and you may need to decant it in order not to waste it.
For the difference in price, I would stick to the original Layton, but I guess price is subjective.

Just got a sample of this. I’ve never tried the original Layton, but this to me is overall smooth and creamy. The oud and coffee give it a richness and warmth, while the lavender, citrus and other notes quickly take a back seat. I have to say that this background part has a sort of Sauvage vibe to it, but slightly more refined. Whereas Sauvage has a sort of non-descript detergent scent for me, this is what it would be if more natural notes were composed to the same effect and blending. Anyhow, the coffee is at the forefront with a touch of oud that creates only a richness and smokiness, and a slight funky aspect. I recognize that it is specifically Laotian wood as it has a distinct sour and slightly sweet characteristic the same way I’ve experienced it in other fragrances with the note (Xerjoff Malesia is one that comes to mind). I don’t notice any civet in this, and I suspect that it is a very small amount. I can see this being a crowd pleaser, actually

My bottle just arrived and it’s amazing, just a shame they only make it in a 75ml, I want a 125ml of this
Anyway, anyone that tells you it’s identical to Layton or that if you own Layton it isn’t different enough to justify
owning both, well, I don’t know what they’re sniffing
I love both and they are somewhat similar but this is definitely darker. Thank God I don’t smell any civet and don’t actually see it listed in the notes, so hopefully it’s not actually there.
The Oud is also not an offensive type like the one in Kuhuyan, it’s a very wearable and beautiful fragrance that is an automatic love for me
To compare it to Layton I’d say think of it like this, imagine you knew 2 sisters and they kind of looked the same
One of them dresses and presents well, she’s always very lively and groomed, consider her Layton.
The other is not as loud, she dresses in clothes suited for manual labour, often covered in dirt as she’s out working with her hands BUT you can still tell she’s cute then that’s Layton Exclusif.
Sorry for the stupid comparison but it’s what first came to mind as far as comparing the similarity of the 2

I rarely write reviews, but this one drag my directly to write this :
Aventus submitted the throne to this stunning, magnificent, incredible masterpiece.
Oh my god ! I finished the smelling of my sample then I found myself directly making an order !
It is pure Masculine, only for real gentlemen, not for boys or Killian Fans (:
Mainly for Winter and Fall , also can be used in the Spring but not in the Summer !
This niche will be remembered for loooong time .

Folks, now we are talking. This is what the original Layton should have smelled like in the first place. I always felt it was missing something, that a main note had been yanked out right before its release. It’s the oud! But now they get to gouge our wallets some more. The house never loses.

  22. :

I tried this on in the NYC boutique. Opening to mid, it does not at all resemble the original Layton (I get the guaiac wood/oak moss/bergamot combo which is very discernible). Once the dry down settles, the green apple note + lavender seep through and remind you why you enjoyed the OG PDM Layton so much.
With that being said, it’s a situational cologne; doesn’t sit well in heat. I would tell you to wait a bit too for it to settle because that opening is not the most pleasant. Still, if you liked the original and wanted something that smelled “classier” then go with this.

This is absolutely fantastic scent! Very complex, smells regal, great longevity and projection and worth trying it out on your skin to experience the complexity of this magical fragrance.

Really? Oud, civet and patchouli are the main 3 notes? And this is supposed to be similar to the original?

  25. :

    5 out of 5

It’s a weird scent. But I think a great improvement over the original. Opens loud and slightly sharp. At about an arms length you get the original apple/citrus/spicy scent of the original Layton with whiffs of coffee and wood if you smell it a bit more closely. If I smell it close to my skin it doesn’t really smell like Layton but I definitely get strong whiffs of the original for hours. Got more than a few “wow you smell really nice” compliments.
Longevity is well above average on my skin with strong projection.
An 8.5/10 for me. It’s weird in its evolution but if you like the original, or if you like a smoother and way less synthetic Boss Bottled Intense, get your nose on at least a decant…it’s pricey.

I would definitely put it as more of an oriental than a chypre. To be honest I wonder of that is an accurate notes breakdown because I personally can smell very little of the citruses that are listed. If they are there, it is really just to balance the sweet buttery notes of the almond and the vanilla. I beleive It also has some of the apple as in the original Layton but I could be mistaken. It does have a VERY unique smell I have to say. I have done a looooot of sniffing since I began this “hobby” last year and have not come across many (if any) smells even similar to this. I think the only one even close would be the newer Polo Red Extreme ? (because of the blood orange and coffee notes in that one).
To my nose the main notes that shine, are the almond with some light floral and light citrus (as I said just to balance the top notes), once it settles a bit it has this buttery slightly camphorous vanilla coffee-y touch of tobacco smell (with the lightest hint of a very smooth leather in the background) which is very addictive. For me the original Layton was just a little too sweet and even cloying, so I never purchased it but literally the same day I found out about this and smelled it on my skin I bought a FB. PdM definitely did an incredible job of keeping the uniqueness of the original Layton but toning down the sweet and cloying part that I think was just too much for some people.
Btw -troybklynny- I mean this with complete respect, but I hope you are being facetious because of aaaaalll the Aventus similarity claims on these sites because I would almost say this is the farthest smell away from Aventus I have probably ever smelled. I LOVE Aventus don’t get me wrong, but where that one is fresh and crisp (even a little peppery from the oakmoss) this is sweet and buttery and camphorous. But then again I know how sometimes your nose might pick out one note like maybe the apple that I think Layton Exclusif has and find it similar to the pineapple of Aventus when first sprayed on a paper strip but that is all my schnoz could find similar in the two…
Thanks for reading y’all ! Hope it helps and Keep Sniffing !!

An unexpected flanker to the now-best-selling men’s offering from Parfums de Marly, Layton, Layton Exclusif adds to Layton the notes of coffee and oud, unsurprisingly.
The sweetness of the apple in the original is replaced with the abovementioned accords of coffee and oud in the base, so Exclusif is less sweet and fruity, but more bitter and woody, and not necessarily in a bad way, but just differently.
And Exclusif still has a relative harmonious mix of citrus and floral elements, though there’s not the added freshness of lavender that the original has.
This is roughly what I expected, and while I’m not overjoyed the minor changes, just as I wasn’t blown away by the original, I do quite like this variation. It’s effectively a cold-weather version of the year-round-friendly original, and much like Chanel Pour Monsieur EDT and EDP, it’s useful to have warm-weather and cold-weather variants of the same concept, frankly, even if somewhat redundant. But much like the A*Men flankers, it’s conceivable to own lots of variations on the same concept if they’re all interesting in their own ways.
Performance is amped up from the original, so it’s very good but not exceptional for the price, which is higher than the original and the rest of the (at $275 for 75ml rather than $275 for 125ml), so it’s a tough sell unless you love it, though I imagine it’ll join the original on the secondary market soon enough.
Overall, a neat creation and one that merits some attention, especially by those that like or love the original.

I just received Layton exclusif today. The opening is reminiscent of the original Layton. It has the same sweet and citrusy bergamot-mandarin orange opening. This is where it changes after about 1 minute. The woody notes come through like a fresh cut piece of dry and slightly smokey pine with less emphasis on the citrus aspect of pine. Thick and dry woods. The sweet opening is still present in the back round and keeps the woody notes from becoming too over bearing. The projection is LOUD, PROUD AND STRONG. This is a PARFUM concentration. A step-up from EDP. At the start of the dry down its a nice blend of the mandarin orange in the opening mixed with the woody notes and a hint of dark vanilla/cocoa vibe-I guess this is the coffee note that PDM mentions. The amber and patchouli start to make way and calm the woods strong opening after 20 minutes of application. This is where I like it the most and it becomes sexy. You will get whiffs of animalic notes but nothing appalling because it is blended very nice. Just enough to give it an edge. Throughout the day, you will get different notes at each whiff which is my I love PDM as a house. They’re unique, sexy and the attention to detail is superb. This is definitely masculine, strong and dryer than the original. Recommended for men, not boys and definitely for cold weather. So far, so good!
