This smells like the tougher, dirtier version of Kiehl’s Musk and a bit of Rien. It is like a bottle of sweat made into a more refreshing fragrance. Intoxicating, addictive, sexy…
*Just make sure you don’t get their other perfume, which is really a poison.

This is some good stuff and the price is right. I hate it when I see someone saying a frag is an affordable version of a more expensive frag – it makes it feel cheaper and puts me off of that frag. No, this is not an MKK replacement, no it’s not a cheaper alternative to MKK. I have MKK and ordered a bottle of L’animal Sauvage as well. They are not redundant – especially if you’re an animalic/musk lover. You know how MKK has that intense fuzziness to it, with a touch of halitosis? Tone the fuzziness way down, and maybe that halitosis (bad breath) smell, and add HONEY to it! It’s good stuff. It’s cuddly and yummy.
If you’ve tried d’Ambiguite by Marlou and found that wayyy too much, then don’t worry – L’animal Sauvage is nowhere near as challenging as that one.
To reiterate – this stands on its own and is NOT just a ‘tamed down MKK’. This has an added element of honey/sweetness, and it’s awesome.

L’animal Sauvage has been part of my perfume palate expansion. I ordered a sample from good ole luckyscent due to their target advertising successfully reaching me. When I got it, the intense musk threw me. It has an incense quality, and animalic & civet overtones. Some melted candle wax. A retro vibe. Not vintage exactly, but in that style. The compositional approach is as overtly sexual as a 70’s style shag carpeted van with a mini water bed inside. I wasn’t sure I could hang with that. I can say now that it’s perfect. Not for everyone of course, but definitely for me.
I always run my samples by my boyfriend. When I held my wrist up to his nose, his eyes popped open and he said he liked it…which means I am buying it. He also commented on the incense-y note, must be the sandalwood unfortunately not listed on fragrantica (“woody notes” can mean so many different things). I had wondered if it was just me smelling it.
I am picturing this – my new summer fragrance – as a faux animal pelt bikini à la Raquel Welch in One Million Years BC. Sillage seems minimal, but that is always turned up in the summer heat. I wouldn’t have thought of it as a summer perfume if not for moodypaws review. I had been looking at white florals with a touch of animalics, but I thought they were too conventional, too mild mannered, too girly. It turns out I needed animalic with a touch of white floral. As others have commented, I also get mild chocolate notes, like milk chocolate with blends so very well with the sandalwood.
There’s stretch in the late development that’s “cuddly”, I guess it could be referred to as the afterglow. 😉 Full dry down hours after application still allures as a clean(ish) high quality musk, and sandalwood.
Wonderfully done AND affordable. I don’t think there’s anything more I could have asked for.
Update: this has become really addictive. L’animal Sauvage has launched a personal discovery trip into animalics.

Ah, I like this! It’s like Muscs Koublai Khan with the funkiest edges sanded off. A little more personable. I mean, I love MKK myself, but I do feel self-conscious about wearing it in public, whereas this I feel I could wear comfortably while still getting the same warm animal musk with a hint of chocolate and honey and candle wax. A keeper! Also it costs less than MKK, so, score.

I didn’t care much for this when I sampled it in the winter, but it actually blooms in the heat of summer and reveals all its honeyed musky furriness. Need a bottle now…

An affordable and tamer alternative to Luten’s Muscs Koublai Khan minus the spice and with a slight sweetness. Pretty and easy to wear for those into animalics.

The scent is so so soft, you really need to lean in for this one. Cleaner, more vibrant than most animalics, a slinky bright yellow

Theres something intriguing about this. You must be a musk/animalic fur lover to enjoy this one. Theres a candied musk that keeps the animalic in check from veering too sharp. Its not a gourmand by any stretch but its unique perspective makes it worth a wear and possible full bottle. Im so grateful they diddnt use cumin. Musk, civet, patchouli, sandalwood, candied violet and orange blossom make up this scent.

At first I was thinking “wet cat” but this is cozy, then I thought about “dirty cat” but that’s not right either, so finally I came to the conclusion of an “unwashed” house cat! You know it’s clean, but it’s got a little bit of BO; you wouldn’t stop cuddling with it and shoving your face onto its belly none the less!

Hooray for inexpensive, high quality CORRECT fragrance! If you’re one of the lucky ones that decided to sample or buy this, then you picked the right time to be an adult. Besides this being an obvious 30ml of sophistication, it’s exactly the smell of a person that was born on 3rd base. Sugary musk dominates the composition but with mental absorption, you can smell that orange kool-aid powder of a note. Lighter in body than anticipated but i can still vibe with this. You’re gonna like how you smell and that’s the bottom line.
I am Cee-Lo Green’s Cat and I approve this message.

Oh yes, the dirtyness of MKK less the cumin… well done!

On my skin L’Animal Sauvage opens up as a vintage soap, but these soapy notes slowly disappear, letting the specific second-hand thrift shop smell in. And that’s it. It went so terribly wrong on me…

A nice surprise and a must for animalic lovers, it reminds me to Musk Kublai Khan , delicious on skin.
