I have this fragrance. It is unique.
It’s musky, spicy and dirty. In an interesting and nostalgic way.
Truth be told this fragrance replicates an ex boyfriend of mine.
    Let me explain.
When I was 16 and 3/4 I had a boyfriend. He was pretty decent, could have been worse a couple of years older than me but sensible. His father was a rich Nigerian diplomat he hadn’t seen in many years and his mother was an Irish woman he hardly saw because she was in Nigeria with his dad. He had a lot of respect for his mum , he really did , he spoke of her highly and missed her.
He was sent a regular and generous allowance and he had his own house, furnished and hanger on friend’s that would crash or chill in random rooms. Ah, 1997 the year of ‘chill’
He treated me kindly, not well ( no date nights or gifts) but kindly. He probably was using me for company, he spend most of his time being quiet smoking weed, pumping weights and listening to deep hip hop. And we’d talk philosophy
I’d lie with him silently, on his bed for hours listening to old school hardcore hip hop. ( but I’d be playing Madonna or Nirvana, TLC, r’n’b or soul IISoul in my head, ha). He’d go away for a few hours and leave me at his place.
His worn tshirt would be on his bed and I’d take it and cuddle it up as if it was my pillow. It made me miss him, it was a comfort
I eventually would take it home. Boyfriend smell. Clean sweat.
Obviously young love doesn’t last. As Janis Joplin sang” a woman left lonely, soon gets tired of waiting”
So I left that rich Naija Boy, grabbed his tshirt and was ‘over’ him by the time his scent faded, or perhaps started to stink.
McQueen kingdom is a boyfriend’s T shirt captured.
That good sexy, stink that comforts you when they’re gone… the trail of a lover. I’m so glad I have it and no bad memories.
    Lovely

Lucky guy I am. Found it just now in the shop near my office, 50 ml edp at 30 Euros..could not believe it..they told it was a bargain leftover discontinued..customers didn’t appreciate it so they kept it unsold under an old desk..and imagine..they gave me the tester also for free..cause now in 2018 they would have thrown it away.Unbelievable..I felt like a thief 😉
Talking about the essence now..definitely I can smell the sweat note apparent from the beginning, a dry sort of sweat, like a worn shirt in the summer heat..and that’s the part I love most…After 2 minutes something slighty floral and red starts kicking off, subtle and like a ghost of an old rose petal, dried. The composition lying in a bed of metallic allure, goes on showing its comforting but funereal aura, like a dusty glove you take with you everywhere, and stays like this for a long time so its quite linear on my skin, luckily I must say.In the end to make clear its gothic attitude a note of burned rubber starts to linger in the most soft way and I see it like the coronation of this bloody lactone sweaty masterpiece..An olfactive experience more than a EDP.Longevity is good enough, sillage is really close to the skin but it’s the nature of this fragrance and it’s meant to be like that. By the way I like wearing this in summer also(1st of August right now in Rome as I’m writing), just a tiny bit and find it very alluring cause the very warm weather emphasizes the sweat and metallic notes so if you’re through human fluids odors in the mad way I am, then hot weather is the right time to wear Kingdom.Unapologetically

It’s not beautiful, no. Niether is it usual. Its idiosyncrasy lies in a genius juxtaposition that is an imprint of creations by Monsieur Cavallier. I have smelled Le Feu d’Issey and they share the same mild spiciness and aromatic glamour, more so of another elusive creation: Nu, which I believe is a heavy-handed one. It veers from being gustatory (cumin and celery seed) by combining it with acerbic fruits, mint, ginger and rhubarb.
I blatantly dismissed it as overly masculine as I did with Nu but when it did age on my wrist, what poetry is this?! There is a carnal femininity to this and I think, only an equally daring man can pull this off. From its steely hide to its burning red heart, McQueen has chosen the right nose to represent his otherworldy art.
    Conundrums and masterpieces.

Powder + something sweet + armpit (cumin note). Its powdery base reminds a lot of My Queen.

The eau de toilette is a light and fresh taif rose in the opening which is lifted by lime & bergamot and when the fresh qualities of the opening fade, spices and soft resins move in to support the rose and carry it on for another 6-7 hours.
Spices & rose meld together and almost feel avant garde, almost like an 80s Cacharel scent. A+ for strangeness & scent.

    PERSONAL SCENT MEMORY:
This smells like the baking soda we sprinkled all over my dads ’85 chevy after my dog got sick when I was 10 years old. The remnants of the sick mixed with an entire box of baking soda that lasted for many years after is what I get from this. It’s not unpleasant to me because it brings me back to childhood, driving down country roads and being a kid again, but I do not want to have this on my skin. If this was not discontinued or hard to find, I’d probably by a bottle just for the nostalgia alone, but unfortunately it is and quite pricy, I’ll just buy a box of arm & hammer.
It’s got some longevity on it too, I’ll give it that. For those of you who smell flowers, that’s wonderful. It’s one of the most interesting fragrances I’ve tried, so there’s something.

After it settles, on my skin, it reminds me of Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black. As if
Nirvana Black & Musc Ravageur made a baby if that makes any sense?!
I like warm spicy scents and this one is lovely after the drydown.

I’ve tested the EdT right alongside the EdP and there’s cumin in here that’s not listed above. It’s much more apparent in the EdP than EdT. In fact, I can’t really detect hardly at all it in the edt. But it’s pretty strong in the EdP.
The play on cumin with oakmoss in this EdP reminds me a lot of Rochas Femme but leaner and drier. Rochas is sweeter, buttery and chewy but here it is dry, dusty, and brittle, maybe even a bit bitter. Rochas is the humid jungle. Kingdom is the arid desert.
The rhubarb is very prominent in the top of the EdP but once it dries, all I get is cumin and oakmoss. The EdT however, is sweeter, stays fruitier for longer, and is much easier to wear. ❤

I just got the 10ml bottle I was bidding for on ebay and I put it on abt 10 mins ago. The beginning smells like a pour homme – or unisex – it almost makes me wonder was I ripped off? After 5 mins all I smell is something peppery, something citrus and maybe ginger? No flowers, nothing sensual or woody..Then the smell of the seeds – celery seeds, is there such a note, really? – lessen, there`s more fruit and musk. Still, smells more like a men`s frag..Takes 15-20 minutes for the sweeter notes to appear, but when they do appear – WOW! But even then, I still think this scent could be totally unisex somehow – or at least it wouldn`t shock me to smell it off a fella either. All in all great composition, I think it must have been `the big thing` in its time. Not a generic fragrance, not for everyone either.Thumbs up!

Loved it when I purchased it in Paris, but after awhile, it penetrated my sinus’ and gave me headaches. Still adore it, but had to stop wearing it as it was just too strong for me. Wish I could wear it again, but not possible. Lucky you if you can!

This is very woody – copahu wood, according to other websites. It was marketed by Alexander McQueen as “a fresh floral-woody perfume”, though oriental spicy fits too.
Too bad it was discontinued…it is unique, but definitely a sibling to Dune, as others have mentioned. Fresher, though…drier, warmer, with more detectable florals. Something in the drydown reminds me also of l’Air du Desert Marocain – the cumin and amber, I suppose. (Yes, it does contain cumin.)

This is not skanky. Not in the least. For skank try Roja Enslaved, Vivienne Westwood Boudoir, ELDO Putain or Papillon Salome. This is a lovely amber musk with some spice similar to some SL. It goes on with a hint of lime, amber, musk and a spice like cumin. As it dries down, the oakmoss is present. It is not a chypre. But it gives it a little sharp dryness. I sprayed three shots. This is not a beast. It pretty much has become a skin scent in 20 minutes. I like it a lot but it’s not the most amazing thing out there.

11/13/2016 This is not a review, just a response to the other reviews:
This is why I adore Fragrantica. I was thinking of trying this, based on the list of notes. Fooled by blind buys and note lists before, I wisely sought out my fellow Fragranticans first this time–and I’m glad I did. Sometimes, reading why someone loves a perfume can serve as a better warning than the negative reviews ever dreamed.
I’m seeing comments like, “this smell’s so good, just like a dancer’s sweaty crotch!” or “this smells like a c*ck after fantastic sex”… And now I know to steer clear.
Where else but here at Fragrantica would you find those words in the same sentence, meant as a compliment? I love y’all. 😀 Thanks for the heads up. Since I rarely crave the scent of BO or post-coital crotch–no matter how good the sex was– for the sake of myself and those around me, I think I’ll pass on this one.

I have finally managed to get my hands on a sample of this one. It opens like the baby of L’Instant de Guerlain and Ricci Ricci and dries down to Indian food and BO. I realize that this is a matter of chemistry. I don’t hate it, but I certainly don’t love it either.

Wonderful warm, spicy, minty even, and the opening notes truly are like Dolce&Gabbana ‘By’,almost the same on my skin, but after it changes and it is makes you think of animalic sex, absolutely amazing fragrance, had the one in a lifetime chance of getting a 25 ml bottle, and i’m in heaven. My big problem is the longevity, not long at all but i don’t care,it’s so beautiful i wanna cry!

Cock (excuse me for ugly word, I am not to call them), but that perfume is this ?! Smell of wild post-sex sweaty skin which involved only took a bath and the natural odor of their skins, delivered the best action-reaction of life, sex, and here, torrid, intense, deep and very time consuming. For chimera in me awakened to use Kingdom of Alexander McQueen, what comes to mind to define it is without engabelação sex in your wildest way possible. Jacques Cavallier is pretty crazy in their creations and “mita” whenever something of his hands reaches the shelves, but this bottling feel sexual contact, I mean the act itself, and market it has to earn all the trophies (awards) on the planet for originality and uniqueness in a highly atypical creation compared the endless waters of sausages thrown out perfumístico market. Kingdom opens wild, almost impossible to bear it, as it features a mix of citrus unlike anything you can imagine, and this mixture resembles coriander, as well as the assembled heavy spices of a fresh and green neroli, connected the juice of fresh Hortelãzinha; this is too much. His half define it as the “down dry absolute sex”, it is where is the culmination of copulation between sweaty willing bodies from each other, with much live Carnation, generous slices of fiery ginger, the Celery seeds strikingly sharp (that resemble cumin, for me), the Rhubarb, inedible, but medicinal and elevadamente acid, and Jasmine bouquet with its well-indole be characteristics; one of the hearts with greater permanence in my skin, until this day. Its output is fatal, you know that post-sex moment falls one for each side and the sweat dripping permeates breathing affronted because of a job well done ?! So this is the Kingdom of output, which features musk and oak moss concomitantly with middle notes, neither more nor by. Intense and transcendent something that brings what we call the “dirt” in perfumery and gradually awakens a real pleasure. It must be allowed to pass to admire Kigdom of Alexander McQueen. Talking about their attachment and projection would be rain in the wet, as he fixed the spirit and design blocks and blocks! Get to know it (have it if possible) before he died. I have said.
Word of the Day: nosy… (day 23)

I’ve just received a small decant of this. At first I wasn’t sure but I keep coming back to my wrist. It smells earthy and dusty to me, but then spicy and floral the next minute.
It’s so intriguing, I just want to keep my wrist under my nose. It feels dark, sexy and mysterious.

My first sniff :” Oh no, – too vulgar !”
My second thought: ” Golly, give him a chance. You might like him.”
He is intriguing and inviting, warm and sensuous, piquant and rather addictive. He is so enveloped in me now, and so welcome.
    I’m afraid, I’m falling in love …
It’s a trap….”Is sex dirty? Only if it’s done right!”
My sin, my pleasure, my delight!
My Kingdom and my endless Joy- second only to my signature Nu by YSL – creation of the same nose; the same Oriental spicy base. My Love to you, Jacques Cavallier!

‘Tis the month and time of year I can bring this out and wear it to death – I love this scent during the fall/winter months as it envelopes me with a pheremone laced spicy sweet warmth and serves as a ‘come hither’ scent to those around me.

  24. :

    5 out of 5

I love this warm, dry, dusty, spicy scent. It’s perfect for fall. I like that Kingdom isn’t balmy or humid, as many fall-friendly scents tend to be.
For me, there’s also a nostalgia element with this fume. It smells exactly like an old shimmer lotion from Victoria’s Secret that I used to use on special occasions in the 1990s, and, as noted by others, it is a close cousin to Dune–another scent I wore regularly in my 20s.
Sidenote: What happened to the cumin in the notes? What is now listed as celery seed used to be cumin. I’m confused. I’ll have to see if I can find original source notes listings for this fragrance.

  25. :

    5 out of 5

I danced ballet for 16 years but am professionally engaged in French-style burlesque (so it goes – sorry, mom) and I must say, Kingdom smells like “dancer’s crotch” – the *ahem* distinct scent that dance tights and leotards acquire in a certain region after hours of bodily exertion. It’s sexy as hell.
I understand the Dune comparisons. They’re sisters. Dune is the pensive, sensitive one and Kingdom is the rebellious, boy-crazy one.
The carnation, celery seed and musk (swear I smell cumin!), mixed with the sour rhubarb and astringent ginger note mimics the scent of sweat. The florals (jasmine, neroli, rose) add a muted roundness that seems to act like an old-timey firefighter’s life net, making sure all those spices don’t flail around out of control as they hover over the composition. The drydown is soft and dry-spicy and never loses the sex appeal.
I get why some people hate this and why some won’t want to try it, but I feel Kingdom deserves an assessment, even if worn only once just to see what it’s all about. There isn’t much out there like this in modern perfumery. Hey, it may completely turn you on, like it did for me. 😉

    KINGDOM
    Definição em uma palavra: REBELIÃO
A saída é horrível.
(Resenha dedicada ao meu amigo Well Talento)

She opens the door and is wearing a long black silk robe. She keeps eye contact for too long while maintaining a devious smile. You walk inside without ever really making a choice to. You feel all of the excitement of seduction without any of the fear.

This is by far my favourite fragrance ever. Is not about it’s notes only but the fact that has an intense effect in my mood. The first spray can hold you back, but as soon as it dries it becomes like a warm blanket on a nude body.
I bought it when it came out and I loved it, it is so intense, sexy and bold. Like a tigress in dressed in black. I found one online last autumn and could not resist to buy it although the price was exorbitant…
Is now finished again, and I am looking again to get my hands on it.

As a huge fan of Alexander McQueen (the most expensive clothes I’ve ever bought in my life, worth every penny), of course I had to try Kingdom.
At first, just like the rest, I smell nothing but cumin, which as we know, comes from the combination of celery seeds, musk and rhubarb, giving it that body odor funk. But, this is another one of those “wait for the initial blast to die down” fragrance. After 10-15 minutes, I understand the reason. Even thought these 3 notes are not mentioned as the top ones, most of their molecules evaporate after 10 or 15 minutes, and whatever is left joins the rest of the notes. If it weren’t (IMO) for the celery seeds, the musk and the rhubarb, this scent would not be so unique, so out of the ordinary.
The core: that’s when all the notes take over, on my skin.
I understand it is not for everyone. And that’s OK.
It is a fragrance only a genius like McQueen could come up with, and give his signature to. I imagine all the models in his Plato’s Atlantis collection (the greatest, ever, IMO) wearing Kingdom.

Hi I have a true passion for excellent fragrance. I also had a bottle of this of this gorgeous oriental fragrance when it was launched back in the early (2000) thousand’s. from what I can remember it might have been (2004). the fragrance was absolutely gorgeous but it was the actual packaging witch caught my attention and I am some one who wouldn’t normally purchase fragrance unless it worked well along side my body chemistry but the fragrance design was very innovative and futuristic a head of its time just like the fashion house. itself. the packaging always reminded me of a segment of an orange or an apple when you cut them in four pieces. it was such a shame when the company or distributor who owned the licensee to create alexander McQueen fragrances decided to not make it anymore. the company however did launch something else after they discontinued kingdom but I personally didn’t think that it was that great and eventually they just decided to stop producing any of his fragrances. kingdom wasn’t out that before it got discontinued I know this because I work within the fragrance sector of retail and I can remember when this fragrance was launched. and the thing about it is it from my knowledge of working in fragrance it is always the very thirst Fragrance Launch of the fashion house fragrance witch are usually the best and successful and after that they tend to loose their way in creating something witch will beat the original fragrance launch. also again from my experience forking in fragrance due to the overwhelming response and popularity from customer some the information gets back to the area managers and then gets back to the head office then they would usually make a judgment on whether they should r-launch that particular fragrance or the whole fragrance line. but it has been ten or more years since Alexandra McQueen since had a fragrance line and after his death there were rumours that they were going to r-launch his fragrances as they were very popular and also rare. the thirst few years of his thirst fragrance kingdom being discontinued I was fortunate to have been able to purchase it at a very reasonable price at independent perfumery store that sold most brands as well as discontinued brands. but as long as his fragrance lines are no longer in production if you do happen to come across any of his fragrances you’ll be paying a hefty price for them. I also read some where recently that the big cosmetic chain Proctor and Gamble has signed a deal with the fashion house to create Alexandra McQueen fragrances so whether they will r-launch the iconic Kingdom perfume it remains to see. the only fragrance witch had come close to the Kingdom fragrance was the jewellery house called (Boucheron.) they launch a fragrance for women called (Trouble) witch I also had and still have but unfortunately that has also been discontinued. and the next best fragrance is (Cinema) buy (Eve Saint-Laurent). they should r-launch this wonderful masterpiece and the pure perfume to go with the rest of the collection because it is well overdue. as companies in the case of Carven)who has not that long ago r-launched its classic and also the earlier (Donna Karan) perfume additions with has made a come back and not forgetting (Yohji Yamamoyo) and soon to be Helmut Lang. that is if the company behind the fashion house brand hasn’t done so already. anyway happy hunting and
    Kind Regards
    David.

Had it and lost it during house moving. Will never forgive myself! It’s an inique scent. Bought it on sale not expecting much of it. Turned out I loved it. I’s warm and spicy without being overwelming. I found it very comforting. But maybe it’s because I have to miss it since it’s discontinued right after I bought it. The bottle was a jewel on its own.
Mozartiana, thanx for the info. But I’m too late. 🙁

    Aphrodisiac!
Why would they ever discontinue this beauty??
When I started at Fragrantica, I tried this I absolutely hated this now my tastes have changed, I love this on my skin. It is sexy, gothic, mysterious!
On my skin I smell the bright bergamot, rhubarb, citrus with the orange blossom. After a time, I sense the rose! It is sweet and dark. Then I am in cumin heaven. It makes me weak in the knees! The scent reminds me of being in bed on a lazy Sunday with my lover and he has his own warm, dirty carnal scent on his skin, I am in love with that scent, it is very sensual, an aphrodisiac!
The celery seed was very overwhelming at first then it started to warm with a touch of benzoin and amber and blend with the lovely rose.
This is tested from tiny decant, the sillage on my fragrance-eating skin is about average then became soft immediately. Longevity was about 4 hours.
The bottle is so cool and weird, I would love to see it on my tray! I had the chance to get a bottle at a great price but now it is becoming more expensive and hard to find.
This is a must try for lovers of animalics. It is a love it or hate it scent!

Delicious! I found a sample size spray of this on ebay to try, and I love it! The top notes start off sexy, spicy, fresh, and slightly animalic and masculine – only very slightly. It reminds me of Womanity and Angel – two perfume that I don’t really like, but I love this! I find Kingdom’s initial spray is lighter and more wearable than Mugler’s two perfumes. The middle layer is very nice too (maybe my favorite part!) as it reminds me of Ralph Lauren Hot which I used to wear in high school, but this is more grown up. The base notes have this awesome musky, what I call a “doctor’s smell” (am I crazy? Does anyone else know what I’m talking about?) that’s just so sexy and clean – I notice the same sensation in Katy Perry’s Killer Queen at some point. So, though I find that Kingdom is strange yet likeable and sexy at first, and the dry down just gets cozier and cozier! The life of the fragrance is pretty long, maybe 6 or 4 hours? I think this is a great quality fragrance, and am definitely going to try to get a full size bottle, though it’s so expensive! Grr, why could they not find a way to continue this fragrance? They should totally have a commemorative McQueen re-release – it would totally sell, sell, sell and make a lot of perfumistas happy!

Very woody from the beginning, with a distinctive bergamot note. At first, Kingdom reminded me a lot of Tam Dao EDT. Further comparison with Tam Dao proved that despite the similarities, they are clearly different. Whereas Tam Dao has a soft woody opening, Kingdom has a strong aromatic vibe. Kingdom does not have cedar listed in the notes but it should. There is musk in the basenotes, but it’s not a very animalic musk but more like cologne: FRESH. I can’t detect any “body odour” or “armpit note”, not even a hint, at any stage.

Last week we had one day with a forecast of rain. On this day, I took the bus to the Dentist with the expectation of haunting the local perfume shops after. One is a special favorite as I have found a few discontinued and much sought after fragrances there (once I got a Cher Uninhibited gift set). This magical day, they had Kingdom tester vials. I had heard of Kingdom and quickly snapped one up. On the bus stop I took out the vial and sprayed it on. One spray on the chest and one on each wrist. I put on my muffler, zipped up my coat and at that moment the rain began to fall. It was at that moment that I fell forever in love with Kingdom. It is warm, etherial, spicy and sensual. to my nose it reminds me of Christian Dior Dune and Yves Rocher Venice. If it can be possible to be perfectly happy on a California bus stop in the rain, wearing Kingdom makes it so.

I really like the opening – quite soft to what I had expected. To me it smells green and fresh.
I softens more and more and is very close to the skin – the flowers are a little bit more noticeable now.
This is a discrete lady – so wellblended that you cant hardly find the individual notes.
I think this perfume could appeal to many different kinds of people and ages. A pitty it is discontinued.
To me this is a lovely and supersoft perfume – I find it strange that people describes it as bold, weird, sexy – as I perceives it as the total opposite.
Smelling it on my wrist right now and it feels like floating on clouds.
A great bottledesign even if I dont think it reflects the character of the perfume – but that is surely a tricky thing to accomplish.

Alexander McQueen’s Kingdom is a fairly controversial fragrance. You’ll either love it or hate it. I don’t think it’s a particularly difficult fragrance to wear, although I will admit that the composition is unique.
In the initial stages, Kingdom smells quite fierce and animalic, with bold spices and a note not unlike the scent of pine needles. It’s important to allow this fragrance to settle before jumping to any conclusions.
The heart is much smoother when compared to the explosive top notes. The celery seeds is what makes Kingdom such a fascinating blend. This accord is spicy and sensual rather than vegetal. Rhubarb, ginger, amber, neroli and carnation are quick to follow.
Kingdom reminds me of Le Labo’s Oud 27 and Bazar by Christian Lacroix, two other controversial scents. I’m all for those spicy, resinous, somewhat animalic fragrances, so naturally Kingdom appeals to my tastes. Perhaps the only drawback is its strong projection. I wouldn’t want to over-apply Kingdom, nor come within close range of someone who has mistakenly doused themselves in it.
I wish that Kingdom and My Queen were more accessible. The sudden death of Alexander McQueen has greatly affected this brand, which shouldn’t be so because his fragrances should live on as a reminder of his fashion legacy. All serious parfumistas should try this fragrance at least once. It’s a classic in its own right.

The thing about most great artists is that they learn their craft, but then they have the power to de-construct it. Lee McQueen was a Savile Row tailor long before he created the art/fashion theatrical crossover works we remember him for. All the skulls might seem passé now they are everywhere. Originality is mostly plagiarised, but not Kingdom. I was actually offended by it the first time I tried it. Would anyone wear it, could I ever wear this? But this work was directed by a man who made a dress for Bjork that she was actually sewn into (through the skin in Pagan Poetry). Unique and curried, like so many pub crawl nights out in the “Kingdom” itself, it’s arterial bottle lies at the heart of our culture, even if we are afraid to admit it. Vic Chesnutt wrote ” my heroes are all off in the great beyond”. Sadly this becomes more true the older you get.

Try the EdT, it smells like the original EdP minus the cumin, which you obviously hate.
