So…you know what I love? Those woody, mossy, slightly pipe tobaccoy candles that you find at the closeout stores (probably where you find this cologne because that’s where I found it. Lol) and a while back, when I discovered that I LOVED those notes in a candle, this was actually one of the colognes that popped up as one I would like. I have since then, long forgot about it. 1. Because it’s been 2 years. And 2. Because it’s marketed to men.
    BUT…The box was already open…so…
I’m so glad I bought it anyway. On me, it’s woody, smokey, sweet, incense. Put it like this….not the initial 5 mins mind you, but after it settles down, I would imagine if Surge Lutins Chergui had a body spray, this would be it lol! I’m going to say this can very well be unisex. Definitely more unisex than Sarah Jessica Parkers “stash” and many women are proudly wearing that woody thang!
I’m actually really liking this a lot. Ladies, I suggest if you like scents that aren’t ALWAYS on the level of la Vie Est Belle, alien, flowerbomb, Angel, and are open to something a little more “zen” give this a try! If it’s not your thing, you can always spray your couches and curtains with it and everyone will ask where the awesome candle is burning.

This was a total blind buy when I was then populating my bare fragrance shelf with the cheapest offerings available. I was intrigued because I hadn’t seen Kanon in my rounds of the various discount stores and I was afraid if I didn’t pick it up, I wouldn’t see it again. And as it turns out, I haven’t see Agarwood for sale since.
The opening is sweet and boozy in a barrel-soaked alcohol way. Perhaps I’m influenced by the whiskey-looking amber juice. Not that the cologne smells like whiskey, but it resembles a drink to me. The boozy note fades fast, while the sweet note lingers. During dry down, out peeks the synthetic woody fragrances–think wood floor cleaner.
After about ten minutes the industrial taint fades and a more natural wood note remains for three hours, fading to a skin scent.
It was a unique fragrance when I had only 6 scents and with over 60 now, it’s still unique, at least in my collection.

If you read that this is “synthetic,” keep in mind that’s probably the oud note, which is obviously not going to be related to the stuff that costs $200 for a small vial (though a tiny amount could be added to a large vat in order for a company to claim that “real oud” was used). And it’s the usual designer “oud” we have come to encounter so often in the last few years. Here, however, anise is added (just read the list of ingredients on the box), making it a lot more interesting than some of the others! This is an excellent composition that doesn’t come across as “synthetic” to me, though I’m not claiming it has the richness or depth of the vintage greats, of course. I’m not sure who was supposed to buy this, though, and it reminds me of KISS Him in that respect. How many people are like me and want unique compositions but don’t want to pay niche prices? Most niche lovers seem to scoff at these kinds of scents, and the designer crowd would rather go crazy over some vanilla overload scent (rather than spend $10 or so on one like this), perhaps due to the “hype train” effect. I just wish there was a way to know which scent was which before buying (assuming it’s not likely to be at the local Sephora to test).

Oo this is a very angry patchouli, walking in on hedione and cedar doing the bad thing.

This is a weird one. At first, I got syrupy sweet like cherry cough syrup–did not like it. It has grown on me some but it’s still strange. It has a slightly sour note that reminds me of women’s perfume. Not girly but it’s not beefy or macho masculine either. Perhaps a bit reminiscent of Jovan Intense Oud with the rose.
Doesn’t perform very well for me. I applied 10 sprays about 2 hours ago and it’s all but totally gone, barely even a skin scent.
If you’ve got an open mind, this is definitely a lot more interesting than other bottles within $20 of this price point. But, I’m also using up the rest of my bottle as a car freshener.

I have a thing for cheap ouds, and Kanon Agarwood doesn’t disappoint. I may even like it better than Bogart’s City Tower, but this scent is new to me so time will tell. You definitely get the patchouli up front, but it’s clean and not blurried. Kanon Agarwood is pretty smooth in it’s composition and feels a little more formal than I imagined it would have. It kind of reminds me of an old abandoned Luthren church hidden deep in the forgotten woods. It’s slghtly damp with a gothic and rustic feel, while at the same time still maintaining a cleanliness that keeps it handsome and likable. Agarwood will definitely shine best with a chill in the air.
I think even a mainstream fragrance carnosaur could like this if given a chance. It would make a great introductory into a more eclectic world of scents for a guy who can’t seem to put down that bottle of Cool Water. Don’t let it’s Cheap price point sway you into not making a purchase here. Yes, Kanon Agarwood is synthetic in composition, but it’s not a headache inducing mess either, and getting down to brass tax, it’s a nice scent for what you pay, and is strong enough in quality and originality to be a worthy contender to your collection.
If you see this sleeper at a bargin discounter don’t hesitate to pick it up, especially if you like modern pachoulis like Thierry Mugler Ice Men. I could already tell at first spray that this scent was an instant olfactory memory creator. I believe I’ve just found my perfect Thanksgiving scent. A kick ass cheapie of instant love!

So, I think most people have reached a consensus about Kanon’s Agarwood. It’s definitely on the cheap side, but it’s still wearable.
If you take the lid off of this you can’t help but notice a very sweet/synthetic oud – like cough syrup or something. The initial opening or smell right out of the bottle is so strong I have a hard time distinguishing anything else. The first few minutes in and there’s a sweet and light note atop the heavy oud notes, likely the bergamot. Personally I think any note development is hidden by this syrupy oud atmosphere. After an hour or so, it does die down quite a bit to a fair patchouli and cedar mix. And it basically just does nothing from there. The sillage is strong at first, but takes a nose dive after awhile and disappears faster than you’d think it would.
I’ll wear the rest of the bottle that I own, but I wouldn’t buy another one. Tolerable, but that’s about it.

I bought this because it reminded other reviewers of Zino Davidoff – which has become my favorite scent. Kanon’s Agarwood is nothing like the complex and mysterious scent that is Zino. It is has a blast of a powdery chemical smell that has a medicine-y dry down. There is a pleasant agar, woody scent at the back-end, so for that I, have managed to make it work as a bass note to Hugo Boss (or some other fresh scent), so that’s it’s main purpose. I do not like this by itself. Cheaply packaged too.

This is a steal, if you’re looking for a place to begin then this is it. You’re not spending a lot on a full sized bottle sprayer in box.
The oud is not on a pedestal but it’s there and don’t expect it to be the oud type found in non-alcohol attars that are “dirty” or “oily”. The previous reviewers are dead on when they talk about the initial bursts being synthetic. Let it sit give it time and this cheap scent and it’s aroma come across as so much more than what you payed for.

Although I have expensive taste in cologne, I don’t have the cash to back that up so I love a good deal and all of the Kanon stuff is really cheap. I read the reviews and notes so I thought I would test it out at gordman’s even though I have tried the original and found it to be something akin to my grandfathers cheap aftershave.
It has been a number of hours since I sprayed it and it has changed considerably in that time. When I first sprayed it, I though “Yep, its terrible!” It began as something very synthetic and cheap so I gave up hope. After an hour or so, the cheap and synthetic tones dissipated and I could smell the hints of something worthwhile but still very foreign and unrecognizable. I presume it is a poor/cheap Oud note. As I sit here and continue to smell my skin, the drydown is becoming quite nice but somewhat feminine.
For $10, try and it see what you think but I bet you walk away.

This one will grow on you after awhile. The oud note is not overdone, so if you are expecting an oud monster, this that is not. However, it’s undeniably there and it’s marvelous. It’s one to go light on (no need to overdo it). For maximum effect, it is really a good idea to spray this one on skin and clothing. Doing so enhances the oud a bit longer. Moreover, it will hold more great surprises through the day! Well done. Huge thumbs up!!

whoah – chemical mess – has a similar vibe to maître parfumeur et gantier’s parfum d’habit, but much more crude and synthetic.
i smell nothing resembling agarwood here – more of a leathery affair.

    houstcs is so spot on.
Right up to the nose it has a little fumey plastic vibe akin to a synthetic leather jacket which takes away from the fragrance – you have to wait an hour or two for it to mellow down.
Under fabric it filters that plastic note and has more of a fresh bergamont/cedar/pine/pepper tone.
One good spray under the shirt is alright to be honest. Especially after an hour when you can pick up on a coriander & something approaching a generic mahogany note.

This wouldn’t be bad if I wasn’t getting a plastic smell, but maybe everyone wouldn’t get that?? Definitely oud extereme but not a high quality oud like m7.
It smells better from a distance, put your nose in it and it becomes a little strong.
Update: this is the only cologne so far that my wife said “you smell like a man” ha. I have worn this twice now and it gets better in the middle and dry down.

This cologne is weird. I’ve payed 9 $ for it at Winners, but not expecting that I would buy treasure. Actually,I expected a simple scent, not ambitious and notably woody.
It is indeed woody, but in a medicinal way that nauseates me. On a paper strip, it is ok. Musc predominates in the dry down. On my skin, a mix of patchouli, tonka bean and musc bug me around.
The feeling I have is like if cough syrup and children’s antibiotics spilled over and melted together into the wood bathroom cabinet.
Projection and longevity are however quite decent for 9 $.
