The violet is obvious but strange, distorted somehow and seems to have lost its sweetness; I think it’s the lurking “vegetable fat” smell of the soap.

This is very pleasant, similar to Chanel’s No.19,but not in the same league as the gorgeous EDP(pre recent reformulation). It is probably the violet and oakmoss notes in Josephine that make it smell similar. There is a “fruity” taint in the heart of Josephine (though I can see no fruit listed in its notes)which I find not to my personal taste. It feels to me like a chypre that has accidentally had a drop or two of a sweet fruity floral added to it. I am no expert so it may just be how it smells on me. Therefore it will not be a full bottle purchase for me. However I will finish my sample vial and I rejoice that these small perfume houses still exist and provide samples so that we have the pleasure to explore and widen our perfume horizons.
