    Fragrance Review For Jane Eyre
    Ravenscourt Apothecary
    Notes
    Rose Bergamot Orange Clary Sage
This is a beautiful indie niche fragrance. To me it smells like Jane Eyre and Rochester’s love story at Thornfield. This is the aroma of a garden at Thornfield, but it’s not entirely a sunny and sweet aroma. Like the novel’s themes of suffering and bitter sweet romance, the scent is a bitter rose. It’s cold, green, bitter, aromatic, herbal and almost like a mix of patchouli and rose. There is no patchouli note listed here but the clary sage serves as a fine substitute for it. It’s a dark rose in a garden that is not well maintained, with weeds nearby, with climbing vines and fallen leaves all about. There are menacing towers, and mysterious looking windows where one can see a strange shadow passing by and moving up to the attic – Bertha, Rochester’s first wife, who went insane and is kept locked up in the attic.
The rose is the dominant note but it’s a rose similar to that of Voleur de Roses. If you like this darker more Oriental rose, this should appeal to you. It’s a Gothic perfume. It would smell great on a young woman who loves to wear black all the time. The clary sage also makes it unisex and can easily pass for a man’s cologne. This is absolutely breathtaking. Though it’s linear with only 3 notes, it smells more full bodied and complex. I think it’s appropriate for formal evening wear and smells great in the autumn time.
    Beautiful.

For only having three notes listed this fragrance has some remarkable depth to it. The scent right out of the bottle is a green herbaceous rose, with a slightly sour note. On first application it smells like a rose bush that has bud slowly starting to open, its very green and slightly sour. the slightly sour note has to obviously be the lime, but it’s never a note that takes over, it hangs out in the wings just adding some depth to the rose. Jane Eyre then develops into a polite rose, slowly blooming, but staying close tot he skin, this stage last for a while on my skin. finally as the rose fully blooms, it smells like a large cabbage rose with a yellow center it also gives some throw and the sage while allowing the rose to take center stage almost adds a dryness to the composition, almost like there is a mix of fresh and dried roses in the same room. This is a very warm scent, check it out if you like rose or just Jane Eyre- to me the Anne of Avonlea fragrance seems more fitting for Jane Eyre (lavender), but this is a gorgeous well blended scent.
