This came highly recommended but I cannot do the same.
To me it smells way too green-celery and green juice that you strain through a juicer.
No leather or anything else on me. It’s so green it’s a little nauseating and I had to scrub it. Hopefully I’ll have better luck with the other Memo Leathers.

Exquisite scent. A true masterpiece. Nothing else needs to be said. 10/10

Fabulous gin opening with the juniper berries; green, herbal and lightly bitter (as it should be). There are bold citrus notes, and the opening structure resembles classic men’s chypres of the late 70’s (Z-14, Quorum). As the opening fades out, one is left with a vegetal, herbal (and yes as other reviewers have noted, celery-like) scent from the mate and leather intertwining. Overall, the leather is fairly transparent here and is accented by the green accords which do most of the talking. It’s a bit front-loaded, and the appeal dies down soon after the pretty opening. It’s linear to a fault, and what you see with the note breakdown is more or less what you get. I wouldn’t purchase because it’s not interesting enough to justify the price. The fragrance could have benefited from a stronger, birch-based leather accord to anchor the green notes, or have gone much greener and bolder. Critiques aside, it is a clean, lightly soapy, super classy and masculine leather.

The opening of Irish leather reminds me of celery – spicy, green and a little watery. On my skin, there’s no juniper. As the spicy green vegetal notes calm down, a musky leather emerges. However this isn’t your typical cow leather scent – it smells like a leather accord made out of plant-based leather and musk-smelling materials like ambrette. The scent then shifts to a mostly mate and musk scent. The mate is distinctive, with a scent that combines tannic green tea, grass clippings rotting slightly in the lawn mower bag, yeast and beer malt. This vegetal musk and mate scent is paired with a sort of lakewater/ozone accord that goes a touch too laundry clean synthetic fresh at times. Overall, it’s not bad, and the mate note is interesting. But I was hoping for a juniper and LEATHER scent, so this misses the mark a bit.

The greenest leather I have ever smelled. It’s not bad. For a somewhat weird scent I like it, but, uh-oh… it gets soapy upon dry down. That and the price tag, whew.

I have been eyeing the Memo brand for a very long time and finally decided to purchase the Irish Leather. I am so happy with my choice and do not regret it for one second. I went to the main Memo shop in Rue de Cambon in Paris and the lady was incredibly sweet. She gave me testers for the whole Memo leather line including some more and a mini Irish Leather body lotion. I am so happy I waited to go to the main shop instead of purchasing in a department store counter.
First of all, the brand is just beautiful. All their perfumes are made with so much attention to details and with very long lasting ingredients. The bottles are incredibly beautiful and all have their unique drawing. Many of the Memo scents have very creative notes in them that I would never imagine in a perfume, but somehow it all blends beautifully together. It was very difficult to pick a scent as many caught my attention but the Irish Leather is perfection especially for the colder upcoming months. To me its a very sensual, green, earthy scent. The juniper berries give it a slight touch of fruity sweetness. The leather gives it a dark and alluring feel. It is spicy, and a soft leather stays throughout. Overall it is a fresh green in the opening and it envelops into a deep and sexy scent perfume. As many people mentioned, it reminds me too of a crisp misty winter forest walk, beautiful in every dimension.

Smells strongly of gin/juniper on the opening. Not my favorite thing to smell like, even if I enjoy the liquor. Some leather jacket smells kick in after a few minutes.
A very green, gin-y, leather scent that doesn’t develop much and is fairly harsh all the way through.
Might fit someone outdoors, in the fall, on a hunt or something. Very forest-y, very green.
A 5.5/10 for me. Not worth seeking out.

winters and Irish leather creates the best combo for me! a true niche fragrance that will make you enjoy the winters even more!

As pictured, the fragrance starts out as a horse running through an early spring meadow by a salt Marsh. Within a few minutes, the horse’s master beckons, and it stills itself. It takes the leather saddle willingly, and the leather calms the scent, sticking around for the next few hours, accompanied by hints of birch tree and Amber.
Irish Leather is fresh without being soapy, animalic without hitting a barnyard note, and a really nice leather on my skin.

Fruity, floral, aromatic leather. Smells luxury. Smells sex. Irish Leather is unforgettable, sensual, and I would say – sinful.

Surprisingly fresh and subtler than I was expecting, given the note profile. Matches the picture of the horse going through a green field by a lake that they have for this.

This is similar to La Yuqawam Ambergris Showers. I like this one but LYAS has more depth and character. AND it costs WAAAYYYYYYY less. LYAS is slightly sweeter when directly compared, but smelling LYAS alone, it doesn’t strike me as sweet at all. Both are very interesting. The Iris at the top in MPIL is not overwhelming and fades away fairly quickly which is a good thing as I dislike the scent of Iris (Iris smells like stink bugs).
I give this fragrance a score of 8/10.

This one opens up with a juniper blast that almost reminds me of gin combined with some leather that is very reminiscent of leather upholstery in a brand new car. At this stage there is also this damp earthiness present that has a very ‘green’ feel to it that starts to dissipate as the fragrance dries down. In the middle stage you still get the earthiness, but it changes a bit to something with a bit more bite. I want to say cypriol/nagarmotha or even some norlimbanol possibly, but there is definitely a certain dryness that comes out. The dry down on this one is literally just that new car upholstery leather with juniper. The “bite” is gone. Don’t really get the vanilla or amber much. Maybe lingering slightly underneath the leather. Not a bad scent per se, but not something I could see myself buying either. Much better leathers out there.

I feel that this opens with a beautiful, albeit forest aroma; juniper berries and birch. At first, the drydown is vegetal .
Although this not my style, I found it interesting and enjoyable, but not something I’d wear on a regular basis.

How does it smell I hear you ask?
Like a brand new car with black leather seats… from top to bottom, there you go!
    Performance is average

Leather is a strong note, also with amber and sage notes that I can smell after I sprayed onto my lower arm. The first thought was this is a male scent, however after 15 min the fragrance notes do settle to a calming scent for a woman.Fall/winter day and night

I think this smells like a peaty heap. Its strange, at fist as someone would think you have just come back from putting out a smoldering bonfire, and then trampled thorough a lot of green matter. Its strangely fascinating, as fragrances of this like belong to the 80s.
I couldn’t stop sniffing my wrist at a sample I had got. I was dump found and ended up in a heap when I found out the price of it. I just turned my nose away from it. Its nice in a strange way but when you factor in the price its not worthy it no at all!

The initial spray of Irish Leather is reminiscent of Dior Fahrenheit to my nose, but only for a brief moment, then the similarities vanish and I get a lush and wet green field vibe with very little leather. About an hour in the leather starts be become more prominent on my skin. As it begins to dry down it becomes a pleasant mix of green fields and leather. About 6 hours in I get a citrus leather scent. Kind of like the citrus tobacco in Tabarome, but citrus and leather. A very unusual scent.
I do get wafts of the new car smell that others have referenced.
When I was a little boy one of my uncles was into fragrances. He still is and he is the one that got me started. Anyway, this scent reminds me of one he used to wear back in the day. I picture his face when I smell it. I will have to run this one by him to get his take on it.
This is not a bad scent, but honestly, it is not worth the price IMO.

I’m not into that poetic, scent categorizing, layering stuff, so if you would like that kind of review, just pass it. When its about tastes in any level, its so absurd to even think about stating an absolute truth.
Compared to African Leather, on my skin its slightly less longlasting. ( i would categorize it as moderate). It felt different when i had a sample. I might just get used to it, or the sample had much essence in it, dunno.
But, is pure love. That leather thing, patina/vintage feel, like some good old vine.
With 190EUR per bottle is one of the top prized, with Le Labo, and Frederic Malle, but whoever is into fragrances, as a passion, way or life, will understand it.
This one, needs someone to carry it with the style, something that money can’t buy.

I couldn’t quite pinpoint what this fragrance reminds me of until I read a comment on here. This is the new car scent in a bottle. Brand new rich leather seats and a balmy juniper fruitiness lingering in the foreground underpinned by a deep animalic quality. Surprisingly, Irish Leather is very much wearable and it’s undeniably masculine. Now if only the price weren’t so exorbitantly high.

    Absolutely stunning leather fragrance.
Before Memo Irish Leather, I have never seen a leather that could combine green notes/juniper berries with leather in such a pleasantly surprising way.In fact I might never relate green with leather.
The first time I encountered this fragrance is when I was in New York, Bergdorf Goodman. And the advisor let me tried almost everything of Memo…but this one truly impressed me the most.Few seconds after sprayed out this herbal/earthy/grassy note instantly captured me.Then on my skin…several minutes after, it turned into a mixture of some kind of aromatic notes of traditional men’s cologne with a very light and smooth leather smell, but still a little bit bitter.
Unfortunately, this fragrance has some obvious drawbacks: weak longevity;overly thin leather;in consequence, it’s definately overpriced. No I won’t spend 1280RMB on this.

This smells like an Irish bonfire and very earthy it’s a very pleasant smell but it is so similar to a fragrance worn by someone I cannot stand so that is the deathbed for it. It’s longevity is phenomenal and I can’t help thinking of Earthy morning bonfires and spuds thrown n it. New season ones of course

ALSO i see some mentions of ISO E in previous reviews – i also suspected this, though i’m not totally sure. i think this also could be responsible for the weird difference in the scent enveloping me vs the scent directly on my wrist, and for my suspicion that this varies wildly depending on skin chemistry. something about some of the notes reeked of cheap bro cologne, and i strongly suspect this is a result of the iso e in combination with the pepper notes that are so common in awful mass-market dude colognes.
i wanted to like this so much and think it’s interesting, but alas, it doesn’t work for me.

  27. :

    4 out of 5

i adored this in the bottle, but alas, terrible things happened on my skin.
the initial impression from the bottle is ‘new car’ for me, in the best possible way. but on my skin, this changed entirely. the new car/clean suede note lingered, but aggressively so. i HATED the smell surrounding me, while loving how it smelled close up on my wrist.
up close – when wearing this, i kept smelling my wrist as closely as possible to avoid the terrible sour, sweaty new-car stench surrounding me – the notes are delicate, delicious. pepper, juniper – very clear, very fresh, anchored against a much deeper and dirtier base. but for the love of god, whatever this goddamned suede note is a NIGHTMARE on my skin. i imagine it wears differently on others, but this particular chemical does not agree with my own sweat.
this is an interesting scent for sure, but i don’t think worth the price for the full bottle, at least for me, which saddens me as i thought it was brilliant on paper.
sillage on me is enormous, but unfortunately only that one note i hated. longevity on me was at least 4 hours at full strength, some of the inky pepper notes still lingering several hours later.

    A “green” leather.
The leather note is very fine and is complex elaborated.
Irish Leather starts fresh and green. Almost instantly juniper joins the composition. The start smells orris root-like as well. Thus: the fragrance has – especially in the beginning – some bitterness in it. These notes overshadow leather composition for a while which becomes slightly more prominent over time.
Despite all this bitterness the leather note remains soft (and is becoming softer over time).
This elegant fragrance is suitable more for men than women imo.

Usually I will apply a fragrance and put it up to my partners nose and she will say the totally wrong description, like a dense creamy, oriental she’ll say “mmmm…that’s really fresh and fruity.” Or something to that effect…basically the total opposite of what it is. (Who knows how her nose works she could be right and it’s everyone else who’s wrong.)
Anyhow…memo Irish leather was a big exception…as soon as she got a whiff “that’s LEATHER!” She proclaimed and I proceeded to patronise her with an unexpected “wow it is…well done!”
I mean I can smell the leather (and I had prior knowledge of what the scent was called don’t forget) but I was a bit surprised because for me it didn’t smell completely typical or even that Tuscan Leather type approximation used in perfumery would have been more obvious for a noob to detect as ‘leather’ , I would imagine?
    Anyway…
She went on to say that memo Irish leather smelled like a new car and I have to say I agree with her. It’s a very accurate description because I would include the plastic and wood too. She never got the opening but it is indeed a sharp juniper which frankly I find jars with the leather. It takes a while to develop fully but when it does my my its an interesting one. Mate!!! Mate has shown up for a second time in a couple of days trying new fragrances and I’m still non the wiser what it smells like? Whatever is effecting the leather in here is not unpleasant but not to my liking.
My first from this house and I’ll be honest I’ve smelled better fragrances than this one, performance was good but I desperately want to try it again before writing anything off.
Very very interesting…Gets marks for originally and that’s half the battle these days.

    5 out of 5

it took me around 5 to 6 times of testing on different days to kind of accept this fragrance in the toughest way. i know it is hard for few reviewers (if not all) to figure out that it is truly a leather essence because they got used on other kind of leather like Tuscany Leather by Tom Ford, or Cuir Ottoman by Parfum d`Empire, or even Knize 10, or Cuir Maurisque by Serge Lutens, or Grand Cuir by Retro, or Mon Cuir by Ramon Monigal.
it is a cooling breeze sweet leather accord. Despite the extreme mixed up harsh top note that makes even leather lovers dislikes it at max, the dry down makes that Ambergris lightened grandly but still keeps the leather note behind it that you can hardly notice it. actually the juniper berries mixed up with Mate, & tonka beans brings up the cooling leather effect. it’s not really a black dark leather, and i’ll go for a white wild leather.
so give it more time or even spray it on your wrest or blotter and keep it infront of you on your desk for few other hours, loose it a bit and test it more times again.
i know it is quite expensive but this fragrance and the Italian leather are the best selling in Arab countries, so if you like the Arab style fragrances then here is one 🙂

I can agree that this is not the most interesting of perfumes and this is surely overpriced, but “Irish Leather” isn’t bad. Not my cup of tea, but not bad at all.
The first hour is very pleasant – juniper, herbal notes and a sharp animalic leather, as it develops I’m left with a very simple composition of leather and musk (or is this ISO E?), nevertheless this smells like stable, like sweaty horse’s skin – animalic, a bit alluring and a bit weird.
Clearly unisex as only the opening is a bit on the masculine side. I didn’t find this as bad as others stated, but then again – I’ve never been an expert of leather fragrances (I dislike most, but I do enjoy this as this is not as strong as others I’ve tried). Could be a good purchase for subtle leather fans if you happen to find this on sale. Not full price worthy though – longevity was around 4-5 hours and as I said before the composition is a bit too simple.

..not very interesting to my nose..and actually no leather…only plus: lasting power
if you like the smell of gin & iso e super, I recommend escentric 01 over this one. if you like the synthetics more complicated, I recommend comme des garcons 2 man..

I am not sure if the names matches this scent,I am almost convinced it doesn’t. Opens with a strong iris note, could be the juniper berries and dries down to a vetiver-suede combination that just doesn’t work miracles!Green, sharp, reminiscent of forests but not of horses or leather. It reminded me of Hiris by Hermes.Overall, disappointed because of my high expectations(again).More likely to suit a man,I find it too dry and harsh for a woman.Decent longevity and low sillage.

  37. :

    4 out of 5

I don’t usually review anything on the basis of one-day test, but as there are no reviews for this one, here are my two cents: Opens with a beautiful, albeit a short-lived forest accord; juniper berries and birch. At first, the drydown is leafy&vegetal which is presumably the mate note, reminiscent of the smell of the drink complemented by iris, sage, birch and leather. Leather is quite subdued for the first three hours, but more obvious after the mate & his veggie friends fade a bit. The latter part of the drydown is vegetal leather (very similar to Montale Aoud Leather).
Although this not my cup of tea (pun not intended), I found IL interesting and enjoyable, but not something I’d wear on a regular basis. Lovers of intense leather fragrances probably won’t enjoy this, but if you like your leather with some greenness or are looking for a scent that reminds you of a walk in Nordic forest while sipping some mate, this is worth trying. Modest projection, got 6h of wear with one spray so impressive longevity!
