Iris, by Donna Karan is divine. It’s supremely beautiful. My favourite iris perfume of all. I am thrilled to have a bottle, which a beautiful friend gave me out of the blue, and said they’d searched high and low for it!!! Wow. I am surely blessed!!!
It is such a fabulous iris, and violet, with magnolia, ambrette, and lovely rose which is rich but very subtle, and the superb vetiver, which adds such a lovely base of smoky, woodsy, musty, bitter chocolate to really bring it all into a very sensual and aromatic perfume. It’s a truly wonderful smell. It’s a perfect blend of sweet, powdery, smoky flowers with a gorgeous muskiness. It lasts for hours and hours, and wafts around me all day long, giving myself and everyone else a delightful, light, soft perfume to breathe in every now and then. I get so many compliments. So many people say, ‘what’s that beautiful smell? Is that you? Oh you smell wonderful!’ And I get more hugs than usual!!! I’m deliriously happy with my Iris!!!!!

I agree completely with MrsLetterO’s review. I love this light and elegant fragrance and wish it was not d/c. I want a lifetime supply! Only complaint is that it is not extremely long lasting.

I love my iris, so I guess I was going to like this one. I’m not a huge fan of iris or violet cut with citrus, so when I saw magnolia and ambrette I was sold. I know most likely I will never see another bottle of this again, I’m so thankful it’s 100mls.. it’s pretty hard to find. It’s gorgeous. I tried Hiris on one side and DK on the other to get some perspective. The magnolia is quite prominent on me.. it’s creamy warmth gives the iris another dimension. Hiris has a darkness and depth.. for me it’s like staring into the sea… I feel like I’m being pulled in and have a desire to jump. DK has lightness but it’s not lightweight. I feel like I’m spraying on a shield, recently it has protected me from my day at work. Daft really. Iris so wonderful.. I wish I could buy a lifetimes worth. A love affair you want to last forever.

thank you jaspersen for the free sample 🙂
well i’ve only had this on for half an hour and i am so in love with it. i knew i would like it as iris is one of my fav notes but this is unlike any iris i’ve smelled before. it’s not powdery at all, which actually is one of the main reasons i like iris to begin with. i can understand why people are saying about it’s ‘green’ quality; it is really fresh. there’s no muddy musks to drag it down. i made an instant ‘i must have this’ decision. but (and it’s a big but), i can’t seem to track it down here in the UK at all, other than harrods and who can afford them? if it only came out last yr and it is already impossible to get hold of, i can’t imagine what it would be in 5 yrs time. i feel that it’s not worth me starting on this lovely journey if ultimately, it’s going to be impossible to maintain. i’m really sad about that.

This is so subtle and beautiful. Iris is a true skin scent that doesn’t put off a lot of allergens. I can smell the butteriness of the iris but not the rootiness which is a win~win situation for me. No~it isn’t loaded up with powder and the florals in it are so soft as to be suggestions rather than competing for top billing. What they do is help to establish a feminine, fresh w/out citrus feel to the star of the show~the iris.
Scents that are friends of this one would be The Different Company’s Bois d’Iris, Hermes Iris and Van Cleef & Arpels Bois d’Iris. This one strikes me as a bit more female than the other three however. They have more wood to support their iris than DK’s does.
As for layering this w/other fragrances~if your skin is like mine you won’t need to. There’s a lot going on here. If you’re like me and appreciate soft nuances in a perfume~meet Donna Karan’s Iris. She is positively radiant w/possibilities.

I usually fall for more ”spicy” perfume. But I had to have this one!
This is an amazing fragrance…soft Iris like I never knew before.
You can smell the magnolias right from the beginning. Close-to-skin. Which is surprising from Donna Karan, Only one spray and you are good for the entire day!

I love the smell of iris in nature, however in fragrances, while appealing, they just don’t seem to live up to the natural flower. Iris fragrances are often too powdery, too green, too creamy or just a floral mess. My favourite iris scent so far is Heure Exquise by Annick Goutal, however I’ve always been open to finding another iris love.
Donna Karan’s Iris tries to be as natural as possible, choosing to avoid the powderiness and the buttery qualities found in most iris perfumes. I find it quite dewy and refreshing, perhaps a diluted version of the actual flower.
In the top notes, the soft and green iris note was quite delightful, however the more it developed, I began to detect a slight soapiness that turned me off it a little. Once it reached the drydown I was disappointed with how mediocre this fragrance was.
While certainly wearable and pretty, Iris leaves much to be desired. Layering is a possibility, however I have to be honest and admit that I can’t imagine iris blending easily with just anything. Experimentation would be in order to achieve something magical.
Because this fragrance is so simple, it does come across as being quite cold and a little transparent, especially with the lasting power being so weak. Like Robin said on the Now Smell This blog, “if you’re after impressive sillage or lasting power, you’re bound to be disappointed”.
Give it a chance and it may grow on you, however it won’t impress straight away. Iris is not something you’ll dislike, because it is extremely pleasant and predominantly floral and Spring-like, however for those, like me, that seek something unique and mind-blowing, Donna Karan’s Iris is just not the one to blow you away.

That’s right, this one is probably NOT for the typical DKNY lovers.. I am not a dkny lover and so I had some prejudice about it..but what a PLEASANT surprise:IT IS for lovers of IRIS and Violet! Yes it s an unusual combination of Vetiver and the Magnolia but that makes it soo special! I had a small sample and now Ive ordered the full bottle because I cannot stop smelling my wrist.. ok I m an Iris addict but..I even smell some incense and all the components meld so wonderfully soft togehter, it is surely not a loud fragrance..it is warm, floral, soft and caressing ..I want to wrap a silky scarf with that scent around my neck.. thanks Donna, now I m going to pay attention to your special editions!!

What a letdown. I swear I am THE DK fragrance lover…. own and love Black Cashmere, Cashmere Mist EDT/ETP/Luxe, DK Signature, Wenge, Labdanum…. but Iris….. boohooo not for me.
It’s a pretty green floral that I will admit is perfect for spring and summer. It’s light and definitely a day or office frag. I’d even spritz it on my four-year twins if they wanted it’s that delicate and transparent. No powder at all, although that iris softness is coming out more in the drydown, it was much leafier and greener in it’s top notes. It actually kind of reminds me of a beautiful green floral shampoo or soap (not like savon de marseille at all).
But really… if I want a green subtle frag, I’d probably try one the Guerlain Aqua Allegoria first.

This is an iris fragrance without the powder- the opening has a vegetal undertone, then the violet becomes apparent. It smells clean and green and wears close to the skin- the iris is an undercurrent
