I sprayed this on my arm today in Bloomingdales, and while I enjoy the open and get the coffee note then, it dries down to smell like a twin of Montale Red Aoud, which I already own, so no need for this one.

I was expecting alot from this but was let down, it smells like a chemical felt tip pen with a hint of rose on me 🙁

I think Intense Cafe has been refirmulated. I recently purchased a bottle. I don’t smell much of the coffee compared to the first bottle I owned. The rose and the coffe notes have been compromised compared to the original bottle which I purchased on the very first day IC was sold.

for me, this is roses roses and again roses, but i love it! especially on winter times!

This is a nice smelling, long lasting oriental perfume. I smell oud in this, which isn’t listed among the notes. I also see this perfume VERY heavy on amber, despite it’s getting the least votes by reviewers. Amber is blended with rose and saffron in a way that’s giving a sharp edge to the perfume. BUT, there’s a bold, absolutely pleasant white chocolate blend that’s making the perfume fabulous and easy to appreciate. Coffee is nicely presented too. I like the creamy quality of this perfume. However, the oriental notes keep this neutrally unisex. I don’t see this one as a daily scent, but rather more convenient for special occasions.

Why Montale, why?! A bit more cafe thru the stages and it would have been P E R F E C T, just like in the first minute. How Dior made the iris wearable for men, Montale almost did the same thing with the rose, I really like bold men fragrances but this is no unisex at all, sorry, i smell woman all over it. On my skin, the performance it’s 10/10, cannot ask for more. I have a sample ,i don’t know the date and couple of you are saying that the new batch is more cafe oriented, need to try asap. I can only imagine a dark cafe vanilla with this rose lingering with it. If that is true, this would be along vintage Dior Homme a true masterpiece in my opinion. One day you will get my money Montale, i can only hope ….

A cousin of rosewood by Arabian oud, as well as for mancera roses vanille, no intense coffee here! but more gourmand-ish, roses, slightly sweet fragrance!

I really like this fragrance, but this sample I’m going to pass on to my girlfriend.
I feel the rose in this one is too feminine. I can detect a slight coffee note, but it’s not enough for me to bring the balance more towards a unisex fragrance.
So far, my experiences with rose note have been quite black and white:
    – If it has a mix with oud it usually is quite well balanced gender wise, sometimes even leaning towards men.
    – No oud, usually is too feminine for me.
That being said, lovely smell on this Montale. Wish the coffee note was more up front, although there is edgy sharpness to the rose which is quite appealing.

I recently purchased a bottle of Intense Cafe from Lucky Scent & in comparison to samples of Intense Cafe from years ago, my new bottle has a much stronger coffee note. In fact, it is as if the rose and the coffee notes merely switched places because the coffee note is dominant in my new bottle with rose taking the back seat. Other than that, it is the same Intense Cafe I fell in love with years ago!
My box has Montale’s new address listed on it so I know it is at least newer than the samples I have. Perhaps Pierre Montale has listened to the complaints about the lack of coffee in previous versions of Intense Cafe & has decided to amp up the coffee note?

i order a sample from lucky scent the smell was intoxicating agree with people saying the main note is rose and a hint of coffee vanilla and gourmond it was real strong i can smell it on my skin for hours the projection was amazing i felt in love then i order a bottle at fragrancenet and the smell was totally diffrent all i get is the coffee and a hint of rose is not as strong and the projection wasnt loud at all im very confused both smells were amazing tho definitely gourmand i believe the luckyscent sample was more accurate so ill be buying my perfumes full price i want the fresh original perfume make it worth my money .

this fragrance is one of the best fragrance that i ever smell, sooo beautiful! dominant are rose with hint background of coffee. performance is so loud and bold, mostly fills the room with heavy projection and sillage. never regret to buy it and so lucky to have it.

Such a stunning fragrance,im absolutely blown away by this beauty. My only complain is the lack of coffee but i suppose i could layer it with coco or coffee oil to get the effect.longevity on me is about 12+ hours and sillage is way more than an arms length.
It is really similar to roses vanille but this one is a tad more tart and even louder!!!This is my favourite montale.

Very nice lady at Bloomingdales gave me several samples of Montale fragrances. This one was my favorite as I find many scents in this line pretty unisex and masculine. There is no coffee that my nose can find in this-its very strong floral, with powerful rose note. I would say that rose is all I smell. As a matter of fact, it really reminded me of stronger Stella. I really do like it but not enough to shell out $180 dollars for full bottle

This is not a bad fragrance but if you’re looking for an intense coffee scent you will mostly get nothing. Maybe it depends on body chemistry but all I get is rose, rose, rose.

There’s something about this. The blend is great. I hate Montale and Mancera but this one has something addictive about it. There not much coffee and if there is it’s a nice backbone to the Rose and vanilla it’s not the coffee I was anticipating like other people going by reviews but it’s an amazing supporting cast here. Some days I’d say this is better for a girl but there’s days where I’d feel like wearing this around the house just as a scent for myself to take in. I don’t own fragrances for that reason so probably would never get a bottle but it’s a very nice for the colder months.

Boy I love this perfume…I always apply my perfumes liberally, minimum application is 8-10 squirts and this is for a good performing frags like Dior Sauvage, Feve Delicieuse, Aoud Vanille, etc. I normally applied my frags on my shirt a lot more than on my skin…somehow, after a lot of trial and errors, I took a conclusion that applying frags on skin is a waste of valuable juice since just after 1-2 hours or so upon application, the scent bubble becoming very thin and barely detectable…I must dive my nose onto the spot where I applied my frags to be able to notice it is still there. It’s totally different if I apply them on my shirt…the scent bubble is really there surrounding me, I can easily notice that it is still there from morning to late afternoon or even until evening and also people around me can easily notice that I smells good.
Montale Intense Café, is one of my top performing perfumes that will give me expected scent bubble even though I only applied it on my skin. It will last the whole day and the scent cloud can really make a statement. This one is my top rated mass pleasing beast together with CD Feve Delicieuse, Mancera Aoud Vanille, Phaedon Tabac Rouge and TF Noir de Noir.
I own also CD Oud Ispahan and Bentley for Men Intense which I regards highly due to their amazing performances, unfortunately these two beasts doesn’t come with a mass pleasing scent and it’s kind of difficult for me to find the moment to wear them.
I love Montale Intense Café so much to the level that I keep 4 back-up btl in my frag wardrobe…

When I was looking for a coffee scent I was offered to try this one and finally I got a sample.
I wouldn’t describe it as true coffee fragrance.
First impression of first 15 minutes : praline chocolate candy with irish cream filling.
Later it went to something floral but also woody/musky with a tiny hint of coffee/choco/vanilla.
Not what I was told or expecting, but I liked it anyway.

This is another interesting, well-done fragrance by Montale.
It started out very chocolately. Then morphed into a fascinating mix of rose, vanilla, and coffee–strength in that order. It was very pleasant and reminded me of why I liked Stella McCartney’s original fragrance, Stella.

I barely notice the rose at all (thankfully), I’m assuming that’s the one note in this that I’m not a fan of – otherwise, I really love this one… comfy and sweet (but not sickeningly so), and it performs really well. It’s all coffee and vanilla on me with a hint of some floral something

  24. :

    This will be mine. ♥
The only thing I hate here is rose. But it is not strong on me at all, so I will survive. It is somewhere far behind the coffee.
Otherwise this is cozy and safe and it is working with my skin in such an interesting way. We have very special chemistry I cannot even describe it. On me, it is totally alive and it lives for quite awhile. And it is not sweet on me at all. It is more and more bitter. Yummy.

I’ve found these reviews so interesting in terms of the polarized view about whether this is a coffee or rose powerhouse.
I’ve tried four versions of this, two were 5ml samples, one was a spray from a store and the final was from my own full 100ml bottle.
The full bottle experience is the most recent and I can state it does have a strong coffee vibe, especially straight out of the bottle. I defy anyone to smell my bottle and say it’s not coffee. It’s very potent, however this wasn’t the case with my other three experiences, which produced more of a floral, rose bomb. Perhaps it’s got something to do with aging, exposure to air or maybe the modern formulation has been twisted to notch up the coffee notes.
I do like the fragrance itself somewhat, but the bottle for a £100 / $150 scent is atrocious. It’s cheap looking and weak, the spray cap constantly comes off, and although it’s an easy fix to put back on, it doesn’t happen with any other perfumes in my collection. As other reviews have said is’s very light and when you first open the brand new sealed box and shake it it feels empty or used!
The juice also has significant variation. The first sample was a rose powerhouse which projected like most Montale’s. The second felt unbalanced, and very different, in hindsight it could have been a fake it was that different. The last two experiences were from genuine bottles and again they were quite different. I’m not sure if I’ve just had bad luck but the variation is, like the bottle itself, a disappointment.
Longevity and projection are actually quite average and no where near the levels of Black Aoud. It’s truly unisex and asking around 10 work colleagues, it’s straight down the middle with half saying it smelt more feminine and the other half going for it being a masculine fragrance.
There are better Montale’s in my opinion, but if you do like Rose and the smell of coffee it’s certainty worth a try.

If you were there, be ware. This is not intense cafe at all, This is intense rose.
Cloying and might be choking. a layer of oil on my wrist, it fills a room easily yet it is too sweet and hard to accept and I had to wash my hand many times.
It’s not unisex as well, this is made for women, I cannot tolerate the amount of sweetness and rose petals in it also it smells exactly like Mancera Roses Vanille.
If you’re looking for something gourmand and kinda have a bit of coffee vibe then check Salvatore Ferragamo Uomo, it doesn’t have a coffee note but it has the vibe of it.

  27. :

    3 out of 5

Starts off with that same outrageously strong and slightly synthetic rose smell that a lot of the Montales and Manceras have.
It has something a bit metallic in there and a big hit of vanilla. Again, plastic-like and synthetic.
That all smooths out after a while and the coffee comes in. Like a sweetened coffee with cream. Almost like coffee mixed with hot chocolate, there is definitely a chocolate feel in here. Underpinned with a sort of musky, slightly patchouli-like accord, even though patch is not listed.
What other frags does it smell like?
Well from the ones I own, I would say 24 Go Dark might be quite similar if it spent some time in the gym, dropped into the florist for a bunch of roses wrapped in plastic and tin foil then went to an Arabic coffee house and enjoyed a couple of double espressos with a fresh cream chocolate eclair.
Projection, sillage and longevity are through the roof with this one, I can’t understand how it has so many votes as moderate. It is GIANT! It literally lasts until the following day on me and not just as a skin scent.
Epic, I love it. 10/10 for me – easy.

This to me, is beautiful. It is like a perfect combination of Noir de Noir and Thierry Mugler Angel Men. Oud, chocolate, coffee and rose. Perfect for a brisk fall evening.
    10/10

  30. :

This isn’t intense cafe . . . this is coffee candy.
There is something sweet and syrupy with a bit of coffee darkness. I definitely get amber, musk, vanilla, and oud. I’m also getting a carmel and chocolate. As it settles the rose comes out. It’s a tea rose smell both powdery and lifelike but on me the syrup is always center stage for the first few hours.
The drydown — if you can call a scent as strong as the opening that lasts for hours and hours a drydown — is pure rose and oud. The longevity is impressive.

This is so confusing. I absolutely love Roses Vanille so given the 99% similarity between the two (and yes, they are very similar), I must love Intense Cafe. However. Intense Cafe has this hazy, dusty note that, for me, ruins the entire scent and literally makes me cough. My best guess is that this hazy note comes from coffee (although I can’t smell coffee as such), but this dustiness/haziness makes me go bonkers, as dramatic as it sounds. Weird stuff.

I purchased a sample (1ml vial) of this from Lucky Scent a couple months ago and I had very high hopes. I have been testing it on my skin for three days and I have to admit all I could smell was indistinguishable floral notes and a crap ton of rose. This was followed by a sharp medicinal smell (think: the way a cough drop (the blue one) tastes when in someone’s mouth with hints of something reminiscent of Vicks Vapor Rub). Maybe this is a floral component mixed with the other components? I don’t know. That smell really put me off and most unfortunately that medicinal smell was very strong for the first 35-45 minutes as was the rose and other floral notes. I think after about an hour I detected what gave me an impression of the roasting coffee beans in large quantities (like what you would smell if you lived near a coffee factory but add rose to it); it was very distinctive and sharp. I got impressions of this betwixt the strong medicinal smell, which annoyed me. Give this another half an hour to an hour and the medicinal smell calmed down and I’m got roasting coffee beans and hints vanilla with something else. I felt like it was the remnants of the medicinal scent. Overall it stayed very sharp.
I would say that this is definitely NOT a coffee scent so much as a roasting coffee beans scent, the intensity of which is only possible in quantities found at a coffee factory, mixed with tons of rose and other florals, trace amounts of vanilla, and this vaguely annoying medicinal characteristic. I’m not in love, but I appreciate it. However, I love the smell this leaves on clothes after hours or days. It reminds me of how Tom Ford’s Noir De Noir and Atelier Cologne’s Cafe Tuberosa smell on clothes the next day. I LOVE smelling this paired with Chocolate Greedy.

Intense Café presents a nice balance and composure for a floral gourmand. The coffee is secondary to the hazy roses. It’s not a clear coffee note either, but a strongly accorded gourmandish blend, that provides a subtle warmth and grainy texture to the floral presence.
I would imagine this texture effect must be why Intense Café is so popular. The stimulation of it presents itself as a mark of quality. Overall it’s strongly feminine, yet nice. Not better than Roses Greedy imo. I prefer the freshness factor to the gourmand warmth. However, I think Intense Café is easily enjoyable for its qualities, especially for women.

Highly addictive fragrance. On my skin, it smells like coffee, roses and vanilla in equal measure. Each time I spray this, I can’t stop smelling myself. It is absolutely delicious. I’m happy that I can smell the aromatic coffee beans clearly. It leaves an amazing trail and I’m surrounded by its intoxicating aroma all day.

Rose, musk, powder so far. No coffee coming through yet. I ordered a tiny sample from Luckyscent. Highly recommend getting samples of all perfumes that are $$$ like Montale. I wanted the coffee and it isn’t there. This frag is nothing special to my nose or skin, and there are much better and less expensive scents out there in my opinion. There is a faint metallic coming through now, which I’m not liking. Not impressed with this one. Sorry.

I dont get any coffee in this, the Mancera Roses Vanille & Montale Roses Musk comparisons are pretty accurate for me. last very well, 12hrs+ but that might be a bad thing if your not too keen on very sweet scents as this is uber sweet! almost so sweet to give you toothache!
    My Rating 8.5/10
Very good scent but loses a few points for being a bit on the sweet side for my tastes

To be honest guys, either I have retarded nostrils or you need to get an operation of these…I wonder where the hell is the coffee?, have you ever smelled coffee before?….where is it in this fragrance? It proves once more and again, that we better sample before committing suicide by following the hype….
As for the fragrance. A classic Mancera/Montal fragrance, the DNA is just there…and I do swear I do feel oud…it has to be there, the is something pungent in the inner layers of this fragrance…
It is not a bad fragrance, it is not that GREAT either, I would not suggest anybody buying this blind based on the nice name and the incredible HYPE.
    Scent: 6.5 out of 10
    Performance: 9 out of 10
Price: 8 out 10 (European Market)
    Uniqueness: 6.5 out of 10
Coffee-like smell: 6 out 10 but I could honestly say 1 out of 10 cause it does not smell like coffee to me….
Overall: like a 6.5 out of 10. For me just another average or above average fragrance….that I do not like…
Edit: Wearing this today again and we all wonder…where the hell is the coffee?…I cant understand people saying this is the best or one of the best coffee scents…are you guys high or something?
BTW…I am also testing Honey Aoud…that is a better fragrance and a nice Oud to be honest…Medicinal but on the lighter smoother side…

Misleading name much? Should’ve been Intense Rose.
That aside, it is pleasant but didn’t click with me. At least on my skin, it turned a bit too feminine.
Will try it again when winter comes.

This one came across as the typical rose and oud scents that all perfume houses have. In fact, at first sniff, it smelled very similar to Oud Ispahan. Was disappointed. Expected coffee aroma in it.

  46. :

    4 out of 5

Very pleasant fragrance. Appealed to my nose as soon as I had applied it to my skin.
Could be a little rounder and fuller, as some others have noted. The coffee note is a little thin.
But otherwise a nice gourmand fragrance that is sweet, but not too much.

My skin just ate this up, It smells pretty yummy : jammy rose and a definite coffee vibe with a bit of delicious menthol that I love. It reminds me of something so strongly but I can’t for the life of me think of what. I just wish this hadn’t started to fade as soon it it hit my skin. Very disappointing.

  48. :

First of all, I’ve heard good things about Montale, and everything about Intense Cafe looks perfect according to the notes listed here. So far so good, so I purchased a small sample. Not a full bottle, as I’ve learned my lesson about blind buying perfumes. There is no accounting for tastes, which makes the subject of perfume all the more complex.
So back to Intense Cafe… even the name sounds good, promising quite an olfactory experience, like a ride in a fancy car!
But my experience with Intense Cafe wasn’t a happy one. In the opening it reminded me of Tom Ford’s Noir de Noir and I almost fell for it… only to be crushingly disappointed after just a few minutes, when a sharp note turned up and stayed there, annoying, like the shriek of tires on pavement. I don’t know if it’s just one note or a combination of notes badly mixed. But this sharp scent is there all the way till the end and I can’t ignore it. Also, because of it I can’t identify anything else in this fragrance. A big disappointment.

  49. :

Intense Cafe is a beautiful scent! I feel great as soon as I spray it on. Perfect balance of notes creates a very pleasing aroma. Performance is great on me as well. One of my favorite from the house of Montale.

  50. :

I have a love hate relationship with this one. Its a sexy, panther of a scent, to me all chocolate and sinister rose up top, eventually softening and showing the oud. I would never wear it during the day – it wants a dark room, in the winter. Perfect for a dark nightclub. It smells great on a dance floor on a cold night.
But its SO strong. I never know, when I spray it, if it will thrill me with its sexy loud purr or if it will give me a huge headache. Sometimes I put it on and wash it off – that leaves something I can live with. At other times its just what I want. This one is nice to put on a scarf – going out on a cold night with this on fabric next to cool skin is a warm, deep and delicious contrast to frosty breath, black sky and sparkling stars.

  51. :

    4 out of 5

i’m disappointed with the lack of coffee, but the rose/vanilla/musk/powder is pretty nonetheless. i usually dislike rose, because rose seems to lean acidic on me. but there’s a nice balance here. still, i wish there was more coffee.

  52. :

    4 out of 5

Absolutely beautiful! Not a lot of coffee, sadly, but a beautiful, sweet, powdery vanilla dry down. It does last though I don’t know about the projection, I suspect only moderate at most (for me).
If you love vanilla and powdery, warm scents, then I recommend this. Of course, keeping in mind that all skins react differently.
I kept smothering this on a few times during the day and I ended up smelling it the next day! Great staying power but I think you need more than one application.
In addition, lovely, sweet spices warm up this fragrance a little more. I suspect they “waved the coffee over the bottle” LOL (Aussie saying I think – my mother used to say this of a weak smelling or tasting thing). Still, it is a very, very nice perfume.

  53. :

    4 out of 5

There is very little coffee in this perfume. This fragrance is very feminine. They should have named this one Intense Rose. If you are looking for a coffee scent skip this fragrance. I am glad I got a sample before I pulled the trigger and bought a whole bottle. This is a good fragrance if you like rose perfumes, it just is not for me.

  54. :

    3 out of 5

Testing this from a decanted sample tonight.
I am so disappointed. I was hoping for a really intense coffee fragrance; I should have been guided by the note prevalence voted by Fragranticans, though.
The predominant note is rose with sweet vanilla in swift pursuit. I have only sprayed a couple of times in the crook of my elbow, but sillage is very soft for a Montale – which is not to say that it’s unacceptably quiet, just that it’s UNEXPECTEDLY quiet.
There is the characteristic Montale woody/oud scent on drydown; I am not suggesting this is an oud based perfume, just that I detect the same oud/incense base which I smell in a lot of Montale offerings.
This is a pleasant fragrance, but its name is misleading; coffee plays a supporting character, it’s not in the lead role.
In my opinion this leans feminine, but – as always – wear what you love!

  55. :

    3 out of 5

First time i sprayed this one on, i thought it was a bit too over bearing. Next time i wore it though, i changed my mind quite a bit. The dry down is lovely and reminds me of a jam donut! Very tasty stuff. I may put this on my to buy list but am currently undecided since it may lean a bit to the feminine side to me. Gorgeous scent though.

Smells super duper pleasant…like sugared, musky roses. Knowing there is a coffee note I “get” it but without having known the notes (from this site) I don’t think I would have picked it out as coffee specifically. Honestly, I get a sort of chocolate undertone in this perfume. The sugar and rose are the strongest and most discernible notes to my nose.
Extreme lasting power and projection I get 10+ hours. If I want to wear this to work/office I can only use 1 spray. If I’m honest I don’t really consider it office appropriate – it’s just too strong for that.

This is a very beautiful perfume from the fantastic house of Montale. It’s complex and delicious. Upon the first initial spray, you are hit with a heavy rose infused with a touch of coffee. However, the rose soon fades into the background and I get a caramelised vanilla coffee smell. This scent reminds me of a large café latte with vanilla powder dusted on the top. I also sense a chocolate vibe which makes this perfume a dream come true. The only thing I debate is the silage. I believe the silage to be moderate as opposed to beast-mode. I wonder perhaps if the formulations in the Middle East are different to those of Europe. I purchased mine in London and I am aware that in European fragrances are subject to certain rules regarding ingredients. It doesn’t matter though. I still love this fragrance. It’s very comforting and relaxing. Hands down, a true winner!

    Love!!!
While it’s not listed here, I detect some fruity notes when first sprayed. The rose is fresh, a bit sour and overall amazing.
    Scent: 9/10
The scent is extremely potent. I tested it on my skin from a friend’s bottle, and after I took a shower and spent 15 minutes in steam room, the scent is still strong and obvious.
    Performance: 9/10
I’m gonna have to buy Intense Cafe soon.

I got a sample of this perfume from luckyscent so I have worn it a few times by now. I don’t get any coffee from it ALL, it’s a deep rose with hint of vanilla kind of perfume. I own the very famous roses musk by Montale and quite frankly they’re almost identical. The only difference is roses musk is softer and has some freshness to it due to pronounced musk note but other than that, they’re very similar.

I didn’t get any coffee. Mocha, maybe, but this started really chocolatey on me, then disappeared and relaunched as a sweet rose. Vanillas are usually massive on me, so I get very little musk either, just a faint sweet Turkish Delight rose. Nice, but I’m glad I only got a sample.

Wow, this juice is the business. A nice smooth coffee blast followed by a smooth vanilla kissed oud. This fragrance is a great achievement from Montale and probably my most favourite from their offerings. Above all, I feel this is very much a unisex perfume. Whilst it has sweetness, it could work well on either gender. It’s delicious and will leave you sniffing yourself non stop. I also noticed that this projects like a beast and lasts on fabrics well into the next day. Bravo Montale!

When I first smelled this, I was almost discusted. It was maybe a year and a half ago. But now, as my taste and my nose evolved, I discovered my old sample. I kept on spraying and smelling it, until it was empty. Ater that, I kept on going to my wardrobe for smelling the empty sample and I knew I had to buy it.
It came. I sprayed one spray on my forearm and one on my back of the neck. Of course – the room is full of it, but not only my room. I think all the house. It just projects.. it is 23 degreed celsius outside, but when you do not overspray this, it just fits this weather too.
The beautiful vanilla – wow. And the rose there – I see it as some fruit freshness, that it is giving to the scent. I love how I just smell.
I will see about the reactions.
I think, in 50 montales, you have one, that is good. But than it is great. IC is one of them I think.

Very nice for both genders some might find it too feminine. Great sillage and longevity. The coffee at the beginning stays on the background giving it a nice touch, it feels like instant coffee, powdery, sweet, not the strong ristretto kind. What remains pretty intense throughout is the fruity and sweet chewing gum smell.

This was an unexpected purchase. I just smelled it out of curiosity.. intense coffee beans? I thought. but no. you get a weee bitty cafe latte, and then its jam jam jammy rose jam jam (you catch my drift I’m sure..) with the smoothest vanilla. and as unfitting as those notes may sound, its somehow perfect. If this was a man, he would have had me not on hello, but on first eye contact. I would have frozen right then and there, and his smell would have wrapped me up and taken me home.
This one really goes to show that regardless of how much of a perfume fiend you are and how many hundreds of bottles you have or know, or how much you think the “olfactory description” doesn’t fit “your taste”, you just never know what you might ultimately one day, fall head over heels for.
Really and truly, a fabulous fragrance.
