I don’t get much anise seed or tarragon, but I do get a warm, spicy floral bouquet that definitely has carnations in it. This *is* a deep blue, not cool, with a slight incense. Sweet (orris?) and soft wood dry down.

This perfume pulls together two of my favorite things: freshly indigo-dyed cotton and violets in spring at Eltham Palace, a lovely art deco manor just outside London whose gardens are a perpetual delight to me. It smells of civilisation: mysterious bales of cloth wrapped around violet-scented ointments arriving at a wharf somewhere in the ancient world. This is a lovely, cool, scent, one which causes people to come up to me and try to work out what the exquisite smell is. Longer-lasting than some of Ayala Moriel’s other confections. Grown-up and serious without being heavy.
