When I first got this perfume so many months ago, I wasn’t the biggest fan of it. While I did like how comforting and sweet the vanilla was, I didn’t find it incense-forward enough to wear. It’s been getting colder here, however, so I’ve been revisiting it and I’m warming up to it! My first impression was that of a generic vanilla, but I now get the nuances of incense. The smokier parts of this fragrance essentially vanish during the drydown, for better or for worse. For what it’s worth, it’s a beautiful, soothing vanilla that opens with some gusto.

Smell Bent’s description of this one is: “omani frankincense and Kenyan myrrh smoldering atop a pile of vanilla soaked woods – a truly religious experience!”
And it’s an apt description! It’s reminiscent of church incense, especially in the first hour or so of wearing, and I love the mystical spiciness of it. The mix gradually dries down to basically a rich vanilla, which makes me think of baking cookies or something–but they’d still be mystical cookies. Yummy! FYI, this scent comes in both a fragrance oil and a spray variety. I got the oil, and it is indeed strong. A little dab will do ya. Good deal at around $20 for the bottle, though!

The only thing to be “incensed” about is that the vanillic element may be too strong for your tastes, relative to the other notes. I like it, but I’d say it doesn’t have enough “hip action” (as Tania Sanchez might say) for me to think that I’d buy a bottle (I have a large sample).
UPDATE: After an hour or so things seem to be balanced better, though that could be a matter of getting used to the strong vanilla. I’d consider a swap, or a buy if it was heavily discounted, but I’ve got a lot of vanilla-dominant scents, and I have too many bottles already!
dsmaks – :
Incensed is a deep, musty vanilla. There is some raspy frankincense and some myrrh but it is definitely vanilla dominant. The woods beneath are much more prominent than what I expected, in the drydown i detect quite a bit of cedar, specifically the aromatic furniture variety last seen in Totem Eclipse (but used here much more effectively). I love vanilla when it is rendered inedible with the use of smoky and heavy dark elements, this is a good example of that done right. I do wish the drydown wasn’t as strong in the vanilla department, but I still enjoy it. Performance is a bit quiet but it lasts pretty well.
Nice.
7.5/10

Okay, I received some samples last week or so and this was one of them. I have to admit, although they aren’t bag scents, they’re just not for me. If you like different, maybe you should sample this one.
Илья 1982 – :
Just got another sample of this recently. Compared to a sample from a few years ago, in this sample the incense was turned down while the patchouli was turned way up (and it’s not even listed in the note pyramid above!). It’s still good, but different. If this was Aventus, posters would be asking for the batch code.

at the very first spray i get a sweet manure-y scent! i grew up in an rural-suburban area and this scent is familiar. a couple seconds later i get the myrrh i think, very strongly and it smells like musty vanilla with a weird sweetness. i love scents like this, i wish it worked for me, but that myrrh brings out this really strange sweetness with my skin chemistry and it’s kind of eerie and off-putting, like a fresh farm in the middle of winter. is this just my skin chemistry??
ElusaNavyEdulap – :
This is a very sweet take on an incense scent with the vanilla. A bit syrupy. The myrrh isn’t bitter but blends into the sweet vanilla well. There’s a hint of woodsmoke in the background. More of a sweet resin scent than a bitter one however. I don’t get much wood in the composition, it’s overwhelmed by the smoke note and the vanilla. It’s a good incense for those looking for a sweet take on the not rather than a bitter one. Lasts well, soft projection.
siniy69 – :
I didn’t get any smoke or incense. It was just very strong, cheap smelling vanilla on me. Wish I would have gotten some of the smoke the others were smelling, I would have liked it more. Sadly, it just kept getting more vanilla the longer it sat.

It’s so great to see vanilla done in an entirely different way. I usually love vanilla because it’s very sweet, soft, and smooth. This vanilla is much edgier, with a slightly dirty, resiny quality. The very first thing you smell is a sharp, astringent blast of myrrh, which quickly settles into a lovely smoky vanilla base. The composition of Incensed is very simple, but it speaks volumes. The oil version has soft projection and stays close to the skin, and this is probably one of the only fragrances where that doesn’t bother me. It’s definitely better suited for colder weather. I wore it on a rainy Autumn night and it was heavenly.
yulia81 – :
This review is based on sample set bought from SmellBent. Opening is little sharp and once it calms down, it’s a nice smooth sweet vanilla over burning woods. Moderate projection and longevity on my skin. Good staying power on clothes but it stains.

Adiessner – I LOVE Type O Negative…and Black No. 1 was a perfect song for this fragrance! So smoky and intense incense. My husband even liked it.
sat666 – :
J’adore for this one. This is the second smellbent I’ve tried, the first being St. Tropez Dispenser. Really, I regret not getting this months ago in US. I surely will try to get the perfume oil ASAP. Smoky, sweet, and balmy. These three qualities would define Incensed. My first thought after trying was “Ambre Sultane”, but this is better and cheaper. The vanilla is not cloying, but it is mixed very well into the incense and myrrh. I think this is the first smoky-niche fragrance that I love. As time passes, the vanilla will dominate beautifully with the incense. I don’t recommend blind buy, but it must be on the test list!
DEMA_SASHA – :
It immediately smells of frankincense and myrrh, mixed with some smooth vanilla, and a hint of smoke. Then, all of a sudden, that “hint of smoke” gets stronger and more acrid for a long while before settling down again. Someone down below said, “campfire.” Agreed.
This doesn’t strike me as something to be worn.
XSHRobert – :
67) Incensed: incense-vanilla, fortunately supported by woody notes which prevents it from being too cloying but not to smell like a incense stick.
There is a much better remixed version:
Short Fuse incensed, without vanilla but with cardamom and woody notes. It’s the need to buy 🙂
Edvard123 – :
This was my first Smell Bent purchase about 2yrs ago I want to say and it was a blind buy for me on top of that ….A darn good blind buy! This lovely concoction is just done so well and puts me in a relaxed state of mind everytime I wear it or just putting it on my hand just to smell it. On me I get an aurea of a warm smoky vanilla due to the incense and that’s just perfect.
Darkelf742 – :
Lovely and very much up my alley. To me, this is a unisex fragrance and smells fairly “natural,” which I prefer. It is dry enough not to be a cloying gourmand, but warm enough not to let the cardamom smell like sweat on the skin (Hermes Voyage has this problem at dry-down, at least on me). It is also well integrated and has elegant, thus skirting the dreaded “Hippie” scent category. To me, it is like an exotic summer breeze with precious sandalwood and a touch of incense smoke. Nicely composed, and affordable (yay!).
Codex_Gigas – :
It’s beautifully done reminds me of this song.
She’s in love with herself.
She likes the dark
On her milk white neck.
The Devil’s mark.
She’s got a date at midnight
With Nosferatu.
Oh baby, Lilly Munster.
Ain’t got nothing on you.
Her perfume smells like
Burning leaves.
Everyday is Halloween.

something’s burning!*
So what you see is what you get: it smells like burning woods and sweet vanilla, and I love it! But if you prefer your incense dry, this is not for you, because this one is as sweet as it can possibly get.
It’s incredibly smokey and doesn’t really smell very “perfumey” to me, more like something you would burn, rather than wear on skin… but nevertheless, at $45 per bottle – this is a steal!
staigis – :
The ‘Incensed Short Fuse’ remix is like catnip to me! Will be getting a FB pronto. It’s a sharp, fresh, biting mix of frankincense, fresh black pepper, and cardamom. Love, love, love.
Laroshka – :
Incense+Smoke+Vanilla. All are very well blended together so none of them overpower the others, but are terrific in combination. Projection isn’t overpowering, but longetivity is 8+ hours. A winner.
Hotpepster – :
Definitely smoke house. Or camp fire. or “the forest is burning a mile from here”…
Smell Bent describes this as: “omani frankincense and kenyan myrrh smoldering atop a pile of vanilla soaked woods”.
And I can really detect the frankincense & myrrh at the opening.
I’m using papers to spray my samples, so I’ll be back later to review the skin test. One thing I can say about Brent’s creations is, the notes are the notes are the notes. I can detect each one unto itself, and I can also enjoy their accord (in the harmonious sense). Very nice.
adrian88 – :
Very nice and musky incense, incredible vanilla.
etv058speagoessenda – :
YUMM! Smells great.
The incense kick at the start is so powerful that I need to walk around for a minute so I’m not scent blinded.
After about 2-10 mins Incensed fires vanilla and a woodsman’s cottage into the mix and I can take a deep breath again. All of a sudden it’s a very sexy mega fragrance.
Lasts for ages on my usually scent eating skin and has good sillage for the first 2 hours.
Drys down to a dark devils purr at about 5-7 hours. MMM
настя321123 – :
Not a huge hit for me simply because the vanilla base is too sweet for my own preference. On me, it is a very strong basenote as well… so it’s a no go.
If you’re not too focused on this however, or if these kinds of scents work with your body chem… the mix of myrrh and wood goes quite nicely with the vanilla… If only it was a bit more understated.
