Oh! Thank you for other members that said Ibisco smells like the discontinued Shalimar Parfum Initial, it does. Not 100% but it’s a good substitute and inexpensive.

This inexpensive perfume never ceases to amaze me 🙂 I have a difficult relationship with patchouli and musk, but here they do not seem to be in the forefront. I love balsamic fragrances and this one fits the bill perfectly. It is extremely well blended, pleasant to wear and lasts long. During hot summers it’s lemony side shines through, but then in cooler weather, it is all aromatic and balsamic. Absolute love!

I can definitely see why people want to compare it to Opus (though to me that one is much more balanced and rounded and softer, lemon chiffon) and certainly the lighter iterations of Shalimar. To me, being a Shalimar freak and having vintage EDP from the 50’s and on up, this is pretty harsh. I also remember buying a Shalimar on EBAY that was “vintage,” (my one very sad purchase that was a total dupe) and it was sealed, but the juice was a different color, and the smell was way off. This is what it smelled like.
However, because this is a “different juice”–I’m going to just appreciate it on its own. To me, it is a much more orange/lemon forward scent. Elemi which others are noting has a more dry and resinous quality and I am not picking it up, but some ginger is there, definitely the ylang and a low key vanilla. It is indeed lighter and more summery, and I think may stand up well in heat.
I had not looked up what kind of company this is, but, I’m glad that it is a scent with a conscience.

It’s a desert perfume. Spicy but fresh at the same time. For me definetly not an oriental scent, it reminds me more the reddish african soil.
It could be a summer as well as an autumn scent.

I’m totally addicted! “Ibisco” is melting on my skin and it’s really mystic scent. I have the body milk which has a little difference, it’s not exactly the same like the parfume /which is balmy/. It’s more sharp in the beginning, maybe because of the ginger.

I really enjoyed this perfume! I would put it in the same category with L`Erbolario’s Papavero Soave, however not as sweet!
It’s a wonderful floral fragrance, strong without being too heavy or overwhelming. More of an evening scent, than daytime.
It’s exotic and warm – could totally imagine wearing it in cooler seasons. A very unique smell.
If you have the opportunity, do try it!

Yesterday I bought this perfume.
Wonderful exotic almost Egyptian ancient dark smell in my opinion.
But I have a question.
I read here that many people can smell the Hisbiscus in this sent.
I wonder … does a Hibiscus have a sent anyway ?
I never smelled anything on the flower, any Hibiscus flower what so ever.
How does it actually smell ?
sasha80 – :
I love this one! A cheaper and slightly less intense version of Shalimar – and for a good cause. For me it is daytime Shalimar, since it is not as strong, yet strong enough that I can smell it for several hours

Got my bottle today and upon application, the first thing I smelled was Shalimar Initial L’eau. This is the perfect dupe for it. This stays more close to the skin and the longevity is very good. Perfect for spring, summer, and early autumn.
If you live in the US, you can get Ibisco from the Cybercucina online store on Amazon or cybercucina.com.
Like another reviewer mentioned, this helps people in under-developed countries because the raw materials were brought from them. It’s a win-win here. A beautiful scent to enjoy for you and families being housed, clothed, and fed.
Sweet!

So strange! It is really very similar to Shalimar PI! For description it should be enough, if you know SPI. Still, Ibisco has a citrusy feeling due to the ginger accord, and somehow “dusty”. Not dirty or old “dusty”, but like the soft soil under our feet in the African heat; natural, dry, like soft, grinded spices. In opposition SPI is the Parisian sophistication, caramely softness.
The two fragrances are almost similar for my nose, but I have different inner vision of them while wearing.

If this is not the closest dupe of guerlain’s Shalimar Parfum Initial I’ve came across, then I don’t know what is. And in contrary to other l’erbolario fragrances, this one is pretty longlasting, too. Even as long lasting as the “original brother shalimar”. If you can not afford Shalimar Parfum Initial this baby is a perfect substitute. Do try it out, you won’t regret it.
AppomDepeprok – :
I bought this one friday, with the body lotion. I like it a lot and I feel it similar to Shalimar Parfum initial…not egual, more simple but similar. Ibisco is a little spicy, sweet beautiful summer scent, and in Italy it’s cheap, I get the 50ml for €20.
multibaksik – :
I tested Ibisco this morning only on a paper strip and even as I’m writing this, all I can smell is Shalimar Parfum Initial!!
First spritz brought to mind regular Shalimar and after a couple of hours it morphs into SPI.
Now as I adore and own anything Shalimar I don’t know what to make of this because Ibisco is really very similar to the Guerlain gem so much so that I can’t review Ibisco for what it really is.
What I know is that L’Erbolario create fine fragrances and delicious body products all cruelty free and support under developed countries buying raw products from them.
Quality is always excellent and I will probably get a FB of Ibisco perfume 100 ml for 25 Euro.Perfect for summer and smells gorgeous.
ewg045Diobtetty – :
On paper it was spicy and fresh and I decided to buy it. On my skin it becames soft and powdery. It stays close to the skin, it is a light oriental fragrance perfect for summer. I agree with Sistertricked, in the drydown it reminds Shalimar. And the elemi is similar to Si Lolita’s one. Maybe it could be interesting on a male skin.
serrgejs64 – :
I am reviewing the scent not from a direct application on skin but from the paper blotter I brought home with me. The scent first stroke me because of its resemblance with Bottega Veneta in its dry presentation of the flower element. The hibiscus here is natural, not sugared up, not ambered. There is also a welcome presence of woody iris and ylang. This is for the flower part: mature, distinguished and not in-your-face; the coriander gives it a good balance and a chypre-ish feeling. Elemi resin and lemon play the base part and round the fragrance; this is where the Bottega Veneta feeling is coming from, and, to think of it, Shalimar Parfum Initial. I love Shalimar so I may be biased, but I consider Ibiscus a summer alternative for Shalimar lovers. All in all I enjoy Ibiscus for what it is, I feel like I’m playing on my own ground with this scent, with no surprises.
I will try on my own scent-free skin next time and by now for me it’s a go for it!
