What a mixed reaction I have to this one. It opens with a juxtaposition of dry sandy green and vanilla-wood that is right up my alley, and will be for anyone who enjoys greens with a subtle sweetness: say Arsenic by Tokyo Milk, Absinthe by Nasomatto, or perhaps Paname by Keiko Mecheri. The incredibly dry presentation of the sage really caught my fancy here. Iris is a background player that merely smoothes the connection between the two opposing forces. It is both dry and firm.
The problem is, an hour in the aromachemicals also gave me a headache, the vanilla-wood becomes too prominent in the drydown for my taste and projects further than the other notes, and then sticks around for days on fabrics.
The opening had me ready to jump on a bottle but I’m not sure it’s in the cards after all. Great impulses here but one or two things just aren’t working for me. I would still recommend a try, though, for anyone who appreciates scents in this family because it may work for you.
2017 edit: Recently tried both LM’s Cicatrice and Byredo’s 1996 and they are all kissing cousins. Iris-patch-leather-vanilla threads in all three

This perfume is just magic on my skin! It’s very much like Byredo 1996 but then Hystera is an extract and 1996 is an edt if you know what i mean. It starts of dark and smoky and green in the beginning and dries down to a wonderful warm vanillary amber with greens in it. Nothing souer or rubbery on my skin but i guess the experience differs er skintype and acidity of it. Do try before you buy but it’s totally full bottle worthy for me though!
