Description

Hussar (pure parfum oil). Hussar (pronounced Huzzar) evokes the spirit of pirate gypsies and warrior horsemen. Originally from Poland, the Hussars were greatly feared by their enemies, and passionately loved by those who earned their friendship. Hussar features bergamot, rosemary, labdanum, birch, chamomile, juniper, oud, carrot seed, coriander and oakmoss. Imagine a precious jar of wild honey that’s been carried in a leather satchel through a cold green forest and across a mountain meadow of wildflowers and green grasses. There’s a gypsy campfire ahead. It’s snowing.” – a note from the brand.

It’s very interesting. It’s the old era’s Leather taste Chypre like seeing the event in birds-eye view. Warmth and freshness live together. Precisely that’s like Mead. the color of Hussar perfume is honey, and even though it itself has sweetness like honey, but it’s not sweetness of sweets but sweet things like a natural tree sap.
And also, this Chypre scents might a thing of like a medicinal herbs gift box. Labdanum, Birch and Oud stand out, followed by Juniper, Oakmoss etc as spices. Especially Oud and Birch are impressive.
Hussar would give your mind a clear image with bravery – Yes, like Winged Hussars in 16th century are running through the deep forest and the wilderness…

This one is a surprise. I usually go for rich rose florals or power ambers and would not have gone for Hussar if not for its description as fragrance that inspires strength and imagination – come on, even the sound H-U-Z-Z-A-R commands attention!
And yes, it lives up to its name. The herbs are strong and unapologetic and they cut through all the sweet raw honey. Sillage is moderate and that works for me as I don’t want to be intimidating everyone in the room. Probably just the person next to me.
In short, wear it on a job interview. Or whenever you need to kick ass.

Hussar is a wild journey that awaits you. Strongly reminiscent of rich russian leather, the birch and oud lend deeply hazy, smoky leathery accords. There’s a rich honeyed note, sweet yet gamy, like the wild sweet taste of native raw honey, and there’s a dense, wildly untamed greenery in the juniper. Soft forest earth notes with gentle chamomile, like wildflowers reaching for the canopy in the wilderness of the hinterlands, permeate and waft gently beneath the rawness of the leather and juniper. And a beautiful, rich oakmoss adds a final cold, chypre note. The complex juxtapositions in this fragrance offer incredibly and delicately balanced nuances that give this exquisitely composed perfume a raw, surreal edge.

Hussar goes in such a different direction to your standard men’s tobacco and leather slather-on. This perfume will make you feel exotic and sharp like a freshly bathed pirate looking for trouble. Zingy, sweet, rich and spicy, Hussar will turn you into masculine warrior candy. Sillage is fairly intimate, most people will only get a polite whiff. However, anyone who wants to get close to your skin is in for quite a treat.

Hussar is a labdanum-centred perfume oil riding on an effervescent trail of aromatic and salubrious herbs. Olfactorily, it’s like raw honey on steroids, with overtures of sweet chamomile and camphorous rosemary. Figuratively, It is a walk through the crisp cold air of a boreal forest: Deep in the heart of a gripping white-washed winter, a warmly-lit log cabin oozes with the unmistakable aroma of freshly baked Russian honey cake. You have wandered in the snow for hours before coming upon this mysterious hearth beckoning you in. Poised on a razor-thin edge between the inspiring majesty of wildness and the alluring comfort of domesticity, you stop and savour that transitory pleasure where the best of both worlds is possible for a flicker of a moment. Great perfumes evoke haunting images. Hussar’s tale combines elements of Tolstoy’s War and Peace with Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm (with perhaps a Narnia sub-plot).
Yes this perfume conjures the sensation of coldness – to pinpoint specific notes would be reductive, but I believe the rosemary, juniper and oakmoss lend an invigorating aspect which contrasts beautifully with the golden warmth of the labdanum. The oud, carrot seed, birch and coriander is very very subtle, but critical in adding intrigue to the whole composition. For those who enjoy the likes of artisanal offerings such as Kuumba Made’s Amber Paste but find it too one-dimensional, Hussar has loads of that same beautiful labdanum with added complexity and depth.
