If you wanted to like Bvlgari au the Blanc but didn’t, give this one a try. If you’re looking for a subtle “just smells good” scent, this may hit the mark for you. Don’t be scared off by the opening – which I frankly hate. I find it rather loud and strange, but it settles down in a couple of minutes to something very quiet and subtle. I had been looking for a “fresh” scent for the longest time, but finally gave up because all the “fresh” scents either smelled like fabric softener or were aquatics, which I hate because I find them too sharp and in your face, and that didn’t appeal to me. You may find this strange for me to say if you look at my collection, because I do have several classic “powerhouse” scents in my collection, but I appreciate them because of their blending, and they aren’t meant to need to be sprayed more than once. I think this is the problem I have with so many modern scents. They either go too far one way or too far the other – either too aquatic or too sweet or too floral – they are too monochromatic in other words. What I have learned about myself through my life long exploration of perfume is that I appreciate very well blended or subtle, natural smelling scents – woods or greens especially. What I really wanted apparently was “fresh” as in subtle and natural smelling, like a walk in a meadow or the woods, rather than “fresh” like artificial smelling laundry detergent. This scent actually reminds me a bit of Bvlgari au the Blanc, which I hoped to like because the descriptions sounded like it was what I was looking for, but I didn’t end up liking because I found it had that sharp, artificial feel. Hiris has a similar vibe to au the Blanc, but Hiris is much more natural and subtle – it has much softer edges, if that makes any sense. This may sound like a strange comparison because the notes are very different, but that is what came to my mind. Hermes are experts at creating very well balanced scents that are neither too much or too little of anything, and so often hit the mark perfectly for me. My guess is the people who call this scent “sad” are people who prefer to wear bright colors over black, gray, beige, and navy, which they would also find sad. That’s a personal preference, but for people like me, who only wear these colors because they find them comfortably understated, tasteful, and classy, you might find this scent goes with your sensibilities.

Hiris opens quite masculine on me.It is dry and deep. I do enjoy layering it with L Huere Bleue, which somehow femininizes the notes for me.

The tyranny of had it/have it/want it. I had it, I have an empty bottle and I want it again. I got a false alarm recently, saw an half obscured box which looked kind of familiar but it was Eau de Citron Noir.
I love iris, and this is an older iris, when it was less fashionable (maybe it was Infusion d’Iris which made it fashionable). It is an extremely interesting scent, it is very strong, very unapologetic. It starts almost dry and powdery, and on my skin it softens fast, and becames more floral, green somehow, incredibly rich but fresh. I loved it, and trying to track another bottle, hope it lives up to my memories of it.

I tried this fragrance some time ago and I was really impressed, but it was impossible to buy it for a long time and now I found it in a shop and bought it immediately. It is very elegant, classy and sophisticated. It evokes something fresh and clean. I don´t think it is something melancholic or sad. For me it represents a woman of a certain style, well dressed, perfect hair, simple style just a few accessories. Definitely not for everyone, it requires certain standard and self confidence to wear this beauty.

This iris perfume is so poetic. It is easy to see why it is highly recommended as the best iris fragrance. Spraying it on is almost like a journey through the iris plant. It starts off at the root. Green and bitter. Then brings one through the stem and leaves, still green but now slightly waxy. There is a sudden bloom of florals, I guess to emulate the triumphant burst of bud to flower.
I sprayed this on before I took a nap. Quite enjoyed the bitter green opening. But when I smelt the florals, I dismissed it as another floral perfume and fell asleep. I was awoken by wafts of iris-scented soap coming from my wrist. It was almost like I dipped my wrist in a bathtub full of luxurious iris soap. The dry down is beautiful.

    I miss it.. 🙁
I’ve been wearing it for 10 years, but now is difficult to find it. The best iris scent ever created, in my opinion.

There are 7 types of iris flowers’ scent:
    1. elderflower-scented (peppery, slightly citrusy, sparkling, sometimes resembling ginger ale) (varieties: Orange Gem, Rustic Cedar and many others)
    2. grape-scented (Iris pallida, Spanish Peaks, Winter Carnival)
    3. musk-scented (Hold My Hand)
    4. orange-scented (orange + carrot) (yellow varieties: Sepia Gold, Rainbow Gold)
    5. chocolate wrapping papers + tobacco + old dry wood + plastic (Amethyst Flame and many blue/violet varieties)
    6. pure dark chocolate (Stepping Out)
    7. violets ald frankincense (Forest Light, Forsete)
I think Hiris is a scent of orris (roots of iris) not flowers’ perfume. It’s smells like powdery carrot + hot plastic + metallic note. It is rather cold and elegant.

Reviewing from a dark purple 2012 bottle.
Hiris is a beautiful soapy, woody Iris, Dry yet buttery. Opens a bit green and skanky, I can smell a orange Rose also as someone else said, then as it dries down turns smooth, soapy, powdery wood, gorgeous, quite strong , unisex, clean posh.
Maybe not sweet enough for me but I do tend to go for ridiculously sweet perfumes so don’t let that put you off.
This is a very elegant, mature gem.
Another great fragrance from Hermes. A+

    Lte to the party 1999
Many reviews say how iris it is but this is also very fresh orange rose but nice fresh big rose
It has this tipical hernes undertones
    Dry down is beautiful
Very classic elegant powdery but fresh scent
I have small 7,5 ml bottle lets test it more and see if i will buybig one
Anyway it has ash undertone i think it is iris? On paper on hand when you sniff very close i smell here ash, old cigarette smell on the fabric.
Someone knows what is difference between blue and clasic glass ?

Makes me think of the famous painting “The Japanese Footbridge”, by Claude Monet. (But I’m still waiting for a real (photo-realistic) orris root perfume from Olivia Giacobetti).

A woman, a retired screenwriter, wakes up in her glassy A-frame on a ridge overlooking Topanga Canyon. She’s lived there since the seventies, when moving to the hinterlands of L.A. meant something subversive.
The irises by the porch are starting to bloom, and a few early flowers bob between green shoots. A powdery, metallic smell rises where errant footsteps mar their dirty rhizomes sticking out over the path to the door.
It’s dry but brilliantly sunny outside. The chaparral is barely dewy but very fragrant.
It’s chilly this morning (though it will be warm by noon), so she puts on an old fitted wool blazer over her cobalt-blue silk pajamas.
The blazer smells permanently of Hiris.

I always love iris note. I like almost every perfume with iris. Especially this one done by Olivia Giacobetti for the chic house of Hermès. I was lucky to find a tester for a good price because the Hermès’s chic is expensive.

The promotional sample paper says “Hiris – Claude Debussy – Preludes, Livre III – “Iris” – Pur moment d’emotion”. That’s interesting. There’s no actual Livre III.

This is what I wanted Chanel No. 19 to smell like. I’ve heard No 19 described as the “white button down of perfumes”.
But I think Hiris fits that much better. Clean, fresh, iris. Professional, feminine without being girly or sexy. This seems like an ideal wear-to-work perfume. I can imagine complimenting someone on smelling like this. While this wouldn’t be my signature scent, it is something that I’d like to have in my perfume wardrobe.

This scent personifies CLASS for me…that beautiful and cultivated woman, who arrives discreetly in a party, and when you see everybody is looking and talking about her elegance and charm.
In short, Hiris means less is much more!!

Beautifully structured, Hiris is such a fine example of perfectly balanced olfactive geometry. This is a stunningly clean perfume with smooth, glassy edges. It reminds me a lot of Yves Rocher’s discontinued Iris Noir, but a ‘blanc’ version refracting heavenly white light.
Carnation compliments the beautiful, waxy iris in the opening, and the touch of neroli lifts the floral notes without distracting from the featured note. Coriander further lifts the composition, raising it to meet a thin, golden ceiling of vitreous honeyed amber glinting like diamonds.
Hiris exemplifies a seemingly simple, yet polished iris fragrance that sings with serenity. Thank you to my dear fragrant friend for this generous sample and allowing me to experience this beauty!

This is a magical scent to me. It’s a creamy mysterious iris perfume that makes me think of morning dew in an enchanted meadow. For some reason it gives me serious déja vù, like I’ve smelled or had this exact scent before. But this is my first Hermes so I’m sure I haven’t had it. It makes me go straight into a calm zen mode, a very clean, serious and down to earth kind of a smell. It starts of with a prominent iris and coriander. The top notes can be a little harsh, i think it might be the coriander that feels a little bitter and green to me, like freshly cut grass. I didn’t like that part at first, but now I’ve kind of grown to like it. Then the greenish smell goes away and gives way to the rose to accompany the iris, it becomes softer and sweeter, really settling in on my skin. I hadn’t picked out the neroli, but knowing it’s there and smelling my wrist, I can definitely make out how it helps support the rose. The middle part is my favorite, where Hiris is at it’s most sophisticated self. After a few hours it leaves a trail of sweetness from the honey and vanilla.
This is the scent that has made the biggest impact on me trying this out at the Hermes counter. What WAS that?! It was so enchanting and left me thinking of it several days after, even recollecting it in detail from memory, which I’m not able to do with perfumes very often. I don’t think I’ve smelled anything that felt so ME before. I just had to buy it and make it my signature scent.
It goes from green to yellow and purplish blue in my mind, kind of like the iris flower itself. I can understand why the iris can be seen as a melancholic note, but I don’t see Hiris as sad, just more composed, a little introvert and definitely in a minor key if it was music.
This was also my first contact with the iris-world of perfumes, so all the other ones are going to have a tough time matching up with this masterpiece!

Not very woody at all. This goes on a powdery bright green floral with iris in the top only. As it dries down I get lily with a hint of tobacco depth/edge.

For me,hiris is all about iris and some woodsy notes ,iris is not my favorite floral note,I even dislike it when it’s dominant,I find it too cold and somehow bitter, even dusty
Here,I can’t detect other notes separately but I believe they are there,to balance iris and they do their job perfectly, neroli adds a citrus touch to the scent, just a very faded hint of citrus freshness, honey, vanilla and amber are invisible for me,but they add warmth and sweetness to the blend, not that hiris is a sweet, warm scent, nope it’s still cool and there is not even a trace of any sweety, actually they just balance cold sharpness and bitterness of iris..if amber, honey and vanilla had a bigger presence I would liked it more
I believe hiris needs a warm, oily skin to show her best,it needs skin temperature to bloom
For me,this is a very quiet, serious and clean scent, not my type and not something I would like to wear but I see it’s high quality and balanced, lots of iris, some woods(cedar isn’t as rough and amplified as it often tends to be on my skin) and a very faint citrus undertone
Longevity is moderate and sillage is very soft,it sits very quietly on skin and for me,it has no projection
    ❤❤

This is very nice. I was a bit worried with folk talking about carrots. Ok, I do detect a bit of carrot at first but this vanishes quite quickly. I am thankful that I get little of the soap some have spoken of. It is a very cool fresh fragrance which is what I would expect with iris in. I must state though that we are talking about iris florentina because I grow numerous iris and they all smell differently. Its the orris root that provides the earthy quality which is thankfully low key here. I guess there is a bit of sweetness from the rose and honey. There is a bit of pepper and some dianthus to give a bit of kick. First and foremost this fragrance is all about the iris. Cool, fresh and very lady like. You couldnt wear this with casual clothes. Low sillage but it lasts a good few hours. Impressive for an edt.

Hiris – This fragrance is the freshly picked iris from the ground warmed by the sunlight. It’s earthy, airy, fresh slightly green opening. As chove mentioned, this smells and develops quite different depending on the weather. I am really enjoying that aspect because it makes this fragrance extremely interesting and delectable. Its quite a curious fragrance…it walks the line of constant contradictions: its spicy & cool, Its warm yet cold, classic but extremely modern.
Performance is wonderful considering it is an EDT: about a good 6hrs.
Sillage: starts of moderate and moves on to skin scent.

  28. :

A clean white soapy Hiris smell that lasts. It is a bit musky and one dimensional but manages to create a clean interpretation of the Hiris. Although it is supposed to be a feminine smell I use it and love it.
It’s an elegant and clean smell but not as inspired.

Oh my! This is BEAUTIFUL, I love it! Creamy orris to begin for me then the most beautiful iris, I have a few iris scents but this is now my number one

I came across this beauty few month ago, it was the last piece on a shelf in John Lewis Dpt store in London, I was blown away mainly because the bottle looked like an old classic Hermes but it smelled modern!
I don’t know the history of iris used in notes as a main ingredient except for the classic shalimar where it gives a soft blending effect to all the other hard notes, here it a main note and I could say that from the perfumes I came across this is the oldest iris powdery semisweet scent I could recall.
Back at the time it was normal to be used only for women, but I think since iris was introduced in lots of men scents, this would pass as a unisex too, it is soft yet but could do.
    Beautiful scent.

  31. :

This beautiful perfume used to be my signature in early 2000s. It was a big love from the first sniff. It was very different from other fragrances and I just could not get enough of this sweet, soothing, calming, enveloping iris scent yet so well blended and sophisticated. Another classy Hermes (though not the best of them all!).
In Hiris I mostly get iris flower, rose and maybe just a bit of carnation. Amber and wood combo is quite noticeable too. I can’t get anything green in Hiris, it is a purely warm and sweet flower-wood-amber perfume for me.
As for the longevity and sillage, Hiris lasts on my dry skin for very long time and even longer on clothes. Sometimes you put Hiris on in the morning and in the evening, after it’s been quiet for some time, you still get the most delicious whiff when turning your head or brushing through your hair. In my opinion Hiris is so delicate that you cannot smell it from yourself much though it is there.
Hiris is safe for the day or evening wear, great for the office, it’s intimate and classy. It’s sensuous but not particularly sexy. Great to wear to bed as it’s very soothing. Having said all that, I can understand how it can annoy some people so I would recommend a test before the purchase as it’s not cheap.

  32. :

    4 out of 5

In the opening I get strong white musk (not listed), and galbanum. The intense soapiness lasts for quite a while. In the heart I get a piney note that I quite like, followed by a dry, nose tickling coriander spice. This is a sneezer for me, and I’m usually not sensitive.
I don’t get any of the creaminess associated with orris root, but I do think that I can smell a hint of iris underlying the soap.
In the dry down the iris strengthens, but it’s a harsh, perfumey iris, perhaps an unfortunate combination of the iris and carnation notes. I get a little touch of almond, very bitter. I wish this note were stronger, as it is interesting.
I prefer this to TF’s Ombre de Hyacinth, but Grey Flannel is also similar, better in the dry down, and costs less. Safely unisex, and a safe blind buy for those who like astringent green notes and soap in their scents.

  33. :

    3 out of 5

Hiris starts out with the realist green botanical notes of iris bulbs ready to be potted. It then smooths out into notes of steely iris plant and bloom, with a cool, cerebral and ultimately powdery feel. I love cold scents, they are the antithesis to the climate I live in, and therefore are my most sought-after acquisitions. This one does not disappoint. I found Hiris only recently and took a chance on a blind buy, and I’m certainly glad I did. I only get about three hours out of it before I need to reapply, but I imagine you’d get better longevity in cooler weather. If you are an iris lover you need to get this quintessential fragrance. The beautiful cobalt bottle is an added bonus.

This is warm, elegant, restrained. I smelled white flowers mostly. It was not linear on my skin, and smelled much better there than on the paper strip I also sprayed.

Only iris fragrance that actually smells like the flower… Delicate and mysterious

  36. :

    4 out of 5

I am slowly falling in love with Hiris: a very beautiful, unusual and subtle iris fragrance with an understated elegance. Perfect for a lady. This perfume makes me feel both melancholy and yet strangely peaceful; almost as if I were to give in and let the sadness consume me.
On my skin, this perfume is like a journey of an iris flower from the roots upwards. It begins earthy: there’s a mossy quality and it’s a bit woodsy (I think this is the cedar). The iris then develops quite clear on me, with a faint sweetness that’s quite delicate, before it fades away, sort of atmospheric and airy, even though I can still slightly detect the earthiness in the background. Sillage is soft on me; lasts for about 7-8 hours.
As I’ve been experimenting with lots of iris scents, I’m finding that most of them tend to be a powder bomb. With this I don’t get the powder, so my impression is of a more natural iris scent, and one that I would associate with real irises in the garden (having said that, I don’t think I’ve ever smelt real irises before). Nevertheless, I still find it to be a gorgeous perfume.

  37. :

Perfect scent and a real masterpiece: beautiful blue bottle hides the smell of the most beautiful things in life.
It’s hard to even describe it.
HiRIS on my skin it’s iris flower, pistachio and vanilla topped with honey. Although it is not a gourmand scent! Subtle, feminine and very addictive.
    Expensive but worth the purchase.

  38. :

This starts out earthy and vegetal, not your typical floral or fruity scent. It later dries down sweet and powdery with a slightly metallic note in the background. A unique smell but one that hubby does not like on me.

  39. :

    3 out of 5

Hiris is a unique experience. This is a very cold fragrance on my skin – very “steely.” I detect waxy petals, wet earth and a wood note with a hint of smoke, like mezcal.
What a melancholy fragrance! I wish I could pull the pretty powder and clear iris from this, but nope – my skin is dragging the heavy stuff out of this composition. I appreciate Hiris for the feeling of fresh heartbreak it gave me. I practically have a lump in my throat. An effective fragrance makes the emotions surge! I’m a fan of Hiris, though I won’t wear it often…

  40. :

    5 out of 5

Such a timid fragrance. It’s like perfume for people who don’t like perfume to be detectable at a distance of more than one centimeter. Almost no sillage: I could hardly detect this on my skin.
A delicate floral, but I honestly can’t describe any notes, because I could hardly smell it, even after a re-application.

  41. :

    4 out of 5

I’ve been wearing this gorgeous perfum for ten years, 1999-2009 and I’ve never found another iris fragrance that smelled like a true iris just like Hiris does.It si not too sweet or too powdery like Infusion d’Iris or many others similar fragrances. Its soft, earthy , real smell is not long lasting but I think that Olivia Giacobetti has reproduced the exact scent of a blue, german iris. I had these flowers and I know that mine is not a mistake. Nobody else nose (that I know..!) made a perfum like this. IMO, of corse.. 🙂

  42. :

    4 out of 5

It doesn’t smell clean, green or crispy on my skin. It actually somehow smells oily, overly sweet and dirty. A big no for me, definitely at the bottom of the list of all the iris fragrances I’ve tried so far.

  43. :

    4 out of 5

I tried this yesterday in Australia. It is a rare perfume, so I was excited to try it. I found this perfume bland, it reminded me of a watered down Infusion d’Iris Prada perfume. It is a fresh, cold and old smelling fragrance, but nothing outstanding. This fresh smell does not project well, but lingers on the skin. There was something in this fragrance which reflects sadness to me, I did not find it terribly uplifting. I would not buy it. Others may like, for it is an acquired taste, you will need to try first. Do not purchase this blindly.

  44. :

This review is based on a decant. On my skin and to my nose, it’s soapy floral with a hint of carroty iris root on top. Below average projection and moderate longevity on my skin. All in all, it’s a nice scent but it reminds me of hairspray though.

  45. :

    3 out of 5

Very clean opening. This has a slight vintage make-up note that dries down to softer woodsy feel.Sort of starts off as posh and proper then relaxes as it develops
It’s one of those perfumes that makes me feel very ‘together’ – subtly elegant and minimal. A comfort scent it is not, but for elegant daytime scenarios it’s ideal.
It’s not one I’d wear while hanging out or relaxing – I don’t find it a restful perfume. As far as iris perfumes go, I’m still more a fan of the elegant, yet mysterious 28 La Pausa, and the deep, rooty sweet Iris Silver Mist. But yes, Hiris is elegant, no doubt about that
Sillage light, longevity good, but it’s subtle

  46. :

    4 out of 5

Pure luxury and one of the most elegant fragrances I have ever smelled. I am wearing this in abundance all over my body again today and totally mesmerized by its intricate woody floral green scent. Although I have sprayed at least a couple mls of this fragrance on me, I do not feel anything overbearing at all besides smelling a wonderful combination of serene scent.

  47. :

    3 out of 5

I am a man reviewing a women’s perfume and want to add my two cents. I think Hiris smells beautiful. There is something effervescent and intangible about this one. It smells different from far away than it does when inhaled up close. Its earthy, woody and elegant but it has glints of flowery sweetness too. It changes constantly…enough to make people stop and notice and ask “what is that?”
Not for everyone, and not meant to be. A Calvin Klein perfume fan would not like this at all. Its different and elegant and unexpected. A great scent. Its hard to find but well worth the price if you can find a bottle. Adventurous perfumers should give it a try.

  48. :

    5 out of 5

I got a sample of this when it came out. I wasn’t deeply into perfume then and had no idea about what iris was all about: hated it, real bad. Even clueless I sensed something was deeply wrong. And I was right. Still bad. Deeply bad. Iris is now an obsession for me so I have a lot to compare it to. It does smell like clay so I can’t say it “doesn’t even smell like iris” because in a sad tenuous way it does. But it’s the wrong clay.

  49. :

    4 out of 5

Stately scent. Morphs from a sweet violet into a more rootish iris. Very clean waxy scent in the drydown, almost soapy. Very nice on a man I would think. In the end a distant wisp of spiciness, as in a carnation.

  50. :

Om my God! This is heavenly scent. So subtle and sophisticated and easy to wear, yet bold fragrance. The most complex and most beautiful perfume I have ever smelled. I love the combination of freshness, powderiness and woodiness all in one bottle!

I love this one. I tent to like iris in Many fragrances so this doesn’t come to a surprise to me . Its quite elegant and assertive. More for the mature with its dry , stubble , creamy notes, a little soapy but deliciously clean and sweet in the heart and end notes. Once the vanilla and honey make a stronger appearance this is quite a warm nutty and sweet perfume. It may start somewhat cool and aloof and dry but it warms up wonderful on your warm skin and wraps you in a comforting iris blanket. I love the earthy smell and the carrots , so natural and mature in my opinion. The almonds and vanilla and honey keep this from staying too cool and too soapy. Nicely done. At the moment my favorite iris fragrances. I like chanel poudre as well and this reminds me of it. Chanel poudre has a slight sour note which I am not so fond of.( but I still totally love it ) It’s the vetevier which tends to do this to my nose in most cases. Also this is much better than another longtime favourite of mine infusion D ‘ iris. I am glad Hiris has a more smooth feel to it. And I love the blue bottle. Classy, elegant but everyday and office wear.
    Catty;
I am curious to purchase the new bottle next time , I think it will stay the same scent inside. But I love this dark blue gem , it suits it so well and it may protect the perfume much better than a clear bottle. I wonder why there was a need to change the flacon . Its so utterly classy !

Since November 2013, Hermes has taken this gem out from their Website. When I just bought it again very recently in the parfümerie that I usually do, the vendeuse told me that unfortunately that would be discontinued.
    I got pure Panic!!!
But I´m relieved again, ´cause I saw just now that this precious scent came back in the Hermès Website, together with Amazone + Calèche, in a new Packing. Ufaaaa…I have it again.
The bad News are that the “come back” can mean “reformulation”, and then as it usually happens with many top scents, the Quality falls down.
Well…as Long as the stock of the dark blue Flacon exists, I will buy it. But I confess I´m curious to read a Review over here about the new one.

I love irises. When I was child, tall purple irises grew amazingly well in the small garden in front of our Brooklyn brownstone. Although some irises are only faintly scented, I have some varieties in my garden now that will scent the air for several feet around on a summer day. Of course, I’ve been looking for the perfect iris perfume, and while Hiris is lovely, it is not my ideal iris. I found the opening of Hiris to be somewhat citrus-like, but it soon turned into the scent of real iris flowers…sweet, a little peppery, and rich. Unfortunately, I smell the flower for only a few minutes. If only that scent lingered for a while longer! Too quickly, Hiris turns into a clean soapy smell which stays fresh and pleasant for a few more hours, but doesn’t hold my attention. I will keep looking for the perfume that will capture the iris flower, rather than the root, for me.

I woke up in this winter day, and when I looked to the rain falling in my garden, I missed the Hiris smell!!! I just repurchased it.
If Hiris was a woman, it would be a very refined, well educated, classy british Lady: She doesn´t speak loud, is very charming and intellectual, and has a subtle and a real Beauty that holds you for hours and hours, without annoying you; very civilised …that´s Hiris.
This earthy-Iris is very fresh and from a so high Quality, very rare to find in the scents made nowadays (one similar to the other with less personality and cheaper raw materials).
Hiris is among my beloved scent for sure, perfect for Office (many workmates asked for the Name and wrote it down to buy it) and for a very elegant evening.
It´s really a treasure, and I will Keep it as long as I can.

I just tested Hiris for a third time. My verdict (based on how my skin reacts to it): this is an awful, awful composition.
It started out promising though. So promising in fact that I optimistically sprayed some more. Ha, silly me!
The first couple of minutes are very pretty indeed: a pastel soft iris, slightly ozonic but not crossing into any marine territory, gently rooted in soft earth and wood. An exquisite suggestion of a mediterranean garden by the sea.
But, then wait, what is that new smell? Something citrusy… It could be nice, but something is off with this citrusy waft… it isn’t bergamot, neroli, orange peel or even grapefruit… No, no, on closer inspection, this rather smells like rotting lemon… We all know the kind: the half sliced one that’s been forgotten in a ziplock bag for a month underneath a pile of fruits and gets rediscovered in all its slimy beauty. That’s the kind of citrusy I’m talking about.
Iris is now hiding in shame, rose makes a feeble appearance and any honey note is what would be suggested by the passage of a couple of humming bees.
Ah, but the rotting lemon smell… It keeps on maturing alongside a now full-fledged marine note as a sidekick. Where are those two monstrosities coming from? They certainly are not listed, and I don’t see any note that could even remotely suggest such a development.
Sadly by this point, I smell no iris, no wood, no carnation, no amber and no vanilla. Nothing but rotting lemon by the sea.
While Chanel no19, 28 la Pausa and Bas de Soie may be more difficult/intellectual perfumes, I think each of them epitomizes a beautiful iris story. Hiris does not.
As a final note: I actually developed a migraine and had an asthma episode while wearing this horror. I do have chemical sensitivity, but it usually happens with artificial fragrances in cheap drugstore cleaning and cosmetic products. I certainly did not expect this from a house like Hermes, which prides itself on using the finest ingredients. I proceeded to spend five minutes scrubbing my hand to remove as much of the fumes as I could (I’m using the term “fumes” on purpose here). Unfortunately, the smell still lingers.

A beautiful opening…promise of things yet to unfold. When I first sprayed this I felt iris and what I thought was red berry but must be the sweetness from the rose. The coriander is interesting. A little carrot but nothing close to ISM. Ahhh…magic.
But then, the notes shift, the winds change and the next phase puts me at odds with the perfume. From then on this one is a no go for me. Too bad, it had such promise. A worthy try for sure and an interesting take on iris. For those of you who like a lot of silage this has next to none.
