I was able to get a sample of this one and think that this is the PdM fragrance that I’ll end up having in my collection. I had a bottle of Habdan that I dropped the bottle of and it became the best apartment scent for the holidays imaginable. Then I liked Layton, but it wasn’t for me.
But I really appreciated the PdM DNA. It’s got a high quality, well blended, tight harmony of base notes, that seem to echo in the 3 fragrances that I’ve tried that I really like. Except that this one works for me with the spice and Tobacco. Rather than the apple of Habdan or the lavender/tangerine of Layton.
This one is the right balance of smooth, masculine, sophistication, without being too dandy or gourmand. For me at least. Now high on my To Buy list.

Black magic, sexy bakery. These are the terms which come to my mind when smelling Herod.
I think it’s the Nagarmotha in addition to the incense which gives it the smokey, mysterious vibe which I get in the opening. Whatever that note is, that’s where I get the “black magic” feeling from, it’s hypnotic and seems exotic. It’s that trait that makes Herod stand out among other tobacco-based fragrances for me. Upon drying down we get to walk through that sexy bakery I was talking about. The vanilla really pops here and you get a light earthiness which adds depth without taking away from the gourmand-ish experience.
Longevity is great, I get around 10 hours. The projection isn’t beastly and after about 2 hours you’ll have to be nearer to others for them to detect Herod. This makes it a great date night scent in my opinion.

Not. Bad… The cinnamon blends with the tobacco and. Vanilla. It does smell close to oajan. I’m not a gourmand fan, but I can see why this is popular to the point of being overhyped

This is beautiful vanilla scent. Anyway I think it smells like nice designer fragrance and it’s not worth the high price. If it was cheaper, I would buy a whole bottle.

One thing is certain; you cant escape your taste… I mean herod is trully a wonderfull scent… Starts like freshly baked cookies and develops to a sweet cinnamon-y tobbacco smell.. I would say it is quite addictive and Will get you compliments.. Still its a bit intimate scent, People Will have to get close to you which i think its a good think if you vallue class.. Now, even though i like this i regret buying this because i came to understand that i like animalic non sweet woodsy fragrances. Dont buy perfumes based on reviews no matter how hyped they are because in the end is you and your taste…

Nice but lacks the wow factor I was expecting. For a niche fragrance selling for $200 I expected a lot more. It’s sweet, little boozy and has a warmth from the natural smelling Indian cinnamon. Definitely a man’s fragrance and nobody is going to think you’re wearing a lady’s perfume like with so many other “niche” fragrances for men. I plan to sell some decants to recoup some of the $160 I paid for Herod. In summary, it’s nice but nothing special.

  7. :

    5 out of 5

    Good longevity. Mild projection.
This is not the over hyped beast mode people make it out to be.
It’s a nice tobacco scent. More sophisticated.
I don’t think this is the best PdM.
I would actually rank them in this order:
    Layton exclusif
    Layton
    Godolphin
    Herod
    Pegasus

Just tried this one in store today and what can I say… Quite possibly The BEST Parfums de Marly fragrance EVER!(IMO) Sweet and delicious scent with loads of character. Every niche lover should at least check this one out!

This starts kind of weird from the osmanthus and spices and whatnot, but after an hour when the iso e super and whatever else comes out, it’s astounding and divine. It’s like one of those times when you catch a whiff randomly and are like oh my god what is that and then realize it’s you and the perfume has developed better than you expected

  10. :

    5 out of 5

This is not the beast that is being projected. Scentwise its super sweet and lovely. Some of the best scents ever. All other parameters are a disappointment. Projection Silage and Longevity. Especially when you consider the amount of money shelled out.
I paid 200 Dollars and 160 dollars each for 2 other PDM perfumes.I bought 3 blindly. The reviewers were too convincing. I must say I’m not the happiest of buyers.
The reviewers are sincerely misleading. I watched tons of
Youtube videos before settling to buying.
I love the scent and will manage till exhausted. Not replacing

When I first tried this, I was like WOW! So sweet, intense and balanced. I couldn’t stop smelling my wrist. It’s not something I would wear In public – it’s just not my personality. But I can definitely say this is fantastic.

I will have to disagree the below review. I tried so many tobacco scents and nothing comes close to Herod. I own tobacco vanille, chergui and Pure Havane. I love all but Herod is my favorite. imo it has the best balance of everything, sweet seductive and not overpowering. The blend is nothing but perfection. The quality in Herod is no brainer!

🙂 herod … it´s good, but nothing more (because niché quality and level must be totally obvious from the first sniff) here, it´s not …. very soft-skinned fragrance,
no blast, just a smooth cherry vibe … don´t forget to trust your own nose, not to youtube reviewers (and overly hyped videos) … new world´s not coming … still the same “safe home” attitude from fragrance company (parfums de marly) ….
overrated thing … i thought it would be something special, unique … it´s not …. but i just say one thing: chergui … you´re original !!! 🙂 the first and brought something new on a table … this, just repeat the same old song …
come on, don´t make silly fun of people´s wallet … life is something more

Yes, as some people bellow mentioned, Herod has been toned down. It still lasts 12+ hrs, but now it relies more on silage rather than on projection. In other words, you have to move in order to be noticed, otherwise it sits closer to the skin. Which is pity, but not a disaster, as right now you can basically use it in all seasons and in any situation. Perfect for work.

Hands down my favorite tobacco scent. Deep, rich, alluring and very masculine (in my opinion). I don’t have any performance issues with my bottle. Bought it from Notino in late 2017. It lasts more than 12 hours on my skin. Even after a shower, it’s still there.
‘Tis finally the season to wear this bad boy again :). 10/10

Tyriel, that is strange!!!!!!Anosmia gets most of us (me, more so, since I have a broken nose) even Marlen had it once. But the batch of the bottle must be different from the sample and a note must be stronger and lead to this problem or, the quality control is so bad that there is less fragrance in your bottle. You should contact Parfums de Marly to know what happened and include both bottle and sample so they can solve this problem.

  17. :

    4 out of 5

Anosmia, my dear Tyriel !!!!!!!! Probably to Herod’s top notes, either the pepper or cinnamom, your nose is overwhelmed by the signals emitted by one or more notes, the nerve centers switch off the signals and the communication with the brain is interrupted, you perceive the fragrance as water, the more you spray the less you feel. The tobacco notes are the background and you can smell them after some time, just not the rest of it. Try daily or weekly to smell the smallest spray you can make (or better, spray in the air),to try to lift the anosmia, by getting your nose used to the intensity of the notes.Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

  18. :

    5 out of 5

    Totally agree with @Tyriel

  19. :

    4 out of 5

@Tyriel…I can assure you that what you’re describing is NOT the Herod I know and love. You either have a tampered flacon or an outright fake.
While Herod is not a projection beast per se, it is a very solid performer.

  20. :

The beginning maybe sweet because vanilla is overwhelming, but just 20mins later, vanilla will be replaced by a spicy tobacco and pepper. Such a masterpiece fragrance!

After reading all the positive reviews about Herod I decided to sample it at Nordstrom and quite frankly I was disappointed. Now first of all it may have been reformulated and if that is the case that is unfortunate. I couldn’t detect any tobacco and moreover the overall smell left something to be desired. You’re paying big bucks for a relatively small amount and I would expect something more from the house of Parfums de Marly. I have tried other Parfums de Marly fragrances that I enjoyed but I’ll pass on Herod unfortunately.

A highly unique, bold and memorable scent that lasts a long time. This luxury cologne is worth every penny if you want attention and to stand out.

This suffers under humid weather, dry heat is fine but add humidity and it ruins it, I have learned dry weather only on this one, same scenario with TF TV, any humidity and it become sickly sweet syrup.

  25. :

    4 out of 5

Herod is a great mix of tobacco and vanilla/cinnamon sweetness. Well-blended and perfectly executed. It’s not overpowering or synthetic smelling. It just smells so good, you NEED to get a sample if you’re looking for a fall/winter fragrance.
Or be like me and blind bought a bottle. Absolutely no regrets. As much as I love Layton, Herod is the flagship Parfums de Marly fragrance.
    10/10 would spray again.

  26. :

    4 out of 5

I’m so sorry because I didn’t manage to love this one. I’d love to, for a very stupid reason: the bottle is a masterpiece, perfect from A to Z, a pleasure to see and to use, I love its colour, its weight, the weight of the cap and the “click” of the cap. I will need to find a Parfums De Marly which I love one day because I really crave owning one of their bottles again (I purchased an used bottle of Herod and sold it again after trying it).
Unfortunately, so far both Herod and Pegasus have been a disappointment for me. Actually I really hated Pegasus but I did like Herod, however it’s too sweet for my taste. The vanilla is too much in your face and covers the other notes. As Pegasus, I don’t find Herod well balanced, even if it’s way more pleasant and doesn’t induce headache like that one.
In this case it might just be my taste, as I do like a slight sweetness to give depth and roundness to a fragrance but I don’t enjoy smelling like a cake or a candy.
While I write this I’ve got Herod on my right hand and Bvlgari Man In Black on my left. I would say that Man In Black is the cheaper and better smelling (for me) version of Herod as they have the same spicy vibe and smell very very similar, just Man In Black is way dryer, way less sweet and infinitely more masculine. And it absolutely doesn’t smell cheaper or qualitatively lower. With a MASSIVE difference in the price tag.
I’d recommend Bvlgari Man In Black over Herod without thinking about it twice, but again that’s just a matter of personal taste. If you are into very sweet spicy fragrances, I’m sure you will love Herod, and it will deserve your love.

Beautiful, must-have for everybody. How could you NOT love this?

  28. :

I absolutely detested tobacco in every fragrance, until I smelled Herod. Truly a masterpiece of well blended ingredients that creates a warm, comforting blanket where the tobacco actually rounds out the whole experience instead of being the rough edges. For me, best tobacco heavy fragrance i’ve ever smelled. This and Pegasus are my favorite from PDM.

Soft, warm, inviting, but weird at first. Dry down is exemplary. Just when you think you can’t smell it anymore, a slight movement or light breeze brings it back. Is it worth the big bucks? Probably not. But it’s only money.

Even I (a veteran tobacco hater), can’t fully hate this perfume. I don’t like it when I smell it directly, but I do enjoy its trail in the air.

  33. :

This is elegant, such a beautiful tobacco scent, reminds me a bit of that old cherry pipe tobacco, but with leather and incense, and the resiny laudanum, smells expensive, very good sillage and projection as well, very mature scent..this stuff isn’t cheap either…but great juice

I love this fragrance so much, it was my first PdM and it is the best of this house IMO.

    Herod is a unique one.
It is very resinous. It has the slightest hint of a cherry note. I dont get a lot of cinnamon, however I get a TON of tobacco.
The tobacco in this is superb….It reminds me of a tobacco leaf that has been soaked by rain. A very moist, juicy and fresh tobacco leaf.
This is not the same tobacco that is in Tobacco Vanille. Tobacco Vanille rather has a very ‘red-hot’ smelling tobacco, almost reminiscing of a Hot Tamale candy.
Herod = Beautiful, sweet, resinous, juicy, wet tobacco leaf.

  37. :

    4 out of 5

Deep, dark, rich and robust, Herod is a staple. One of my all time favorites. A delicious blending of tobacco cinnammon vanilla and incense. Accented by a dash of osmanthus and pepper, moist tobacco takes on a spiced and sweet culinary vibe. Beautiful.
Twenty years from now, when perfumery, fashion, women and the world have evolved and changed and left my taste behind.
When young people are telling me im wearing old man cologne. I’ll tell them theyre inexperienced. I’ll tell them they dont know whats good. I’ll say whatever i have to say. And i’ll be digging my nose into the Herod on my arm and loving it the whole time. 😉

My first impression over this HERO:
The other day I was walking around in a local fragrance shop (very rare to find niche fragrances here). There were only a few niche ones there, when I spotted a PdM bottle. It blew my mind away. Such a delicous masculine (IT IS FAR FROM UNISEX) masterpiece.
    And it’s longevity……. whaaaaaaaaaat?
I sprayed it 2 times on a paper sheet and put in into my computer bag on Thursday afternoon.
On monday I pulled out my badge from my bag so I can get into my office, and I was smelling something wonderful. First I thought it’s my hair product, because I use a sweet one too. I was wondering 3 hours what can it be?
Then I spotted the test sheet in my bag, and smelled it.
Baaaaam it smashed me into the face so hard. More than 100 hours and I still get waves of it.
    JUST GET IT GUYS!

  40. :

I’ll just say this. Two sprays on my sheets yesterday at 730am. Today at 102pm the smell is still strong. This is something that I would recommend you not spray on a sweater or jacket unless you plan on just using this fragrance. My favorite cologne period.

    Hi ya!
I’ve become a PDM fan in the last few weeks and I purchased a bottle of Herod after I tried a sample vial.
Firstly, this is not normally my type of preferred scent _ I don’t like overly sweet or vanilla usually. I’ve tried TF TV and Spice Bomb etc and I find them either too complex or not as long lasting.
This one blew me away! I bought a bottle and kept an eager eye out for the postman.
To me – this one is simply Tobacco, Vanilla & Cinnamon – thats it – just the right mix for me and it lasts 8-10 hours. I find comments about silage not being strong contradictory as I find it leaves a decent trail all day (mind you I did spray my shirt).
My colleagues tried it (I’ve been giving samples to them recently) and they were stunned – they agreed it was a clear case of pay for what you get – and they shuffled through their draws to retry the other PDM samples I gave that I didn’t like lol as if it reminded them how good PDM is.
Never thought I would wear a scent like this let alone pay for it – extremely happy!

  42. :

Beautiful opening that reminds me of hooka sweet tobacco smell. The drydown is classy and refined. Similar to burberry london minus the freshness. Good fragrance with ok performance.

  43. :

    4 out of 5

The comparison with Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vaille and especially the fact that many of the reviewers have confessed Herod’s superiority have inspired my interest in testing this perfume.
I say that Tobacco Vanille never impressed me, but Herod .. is another story … First of all, Herod seems to me a lot sweeter in the first half an hour I could say that it seems to me to be excessively sweet, after which tobacco, vanilla and tonka receive an inspired addition of osmanthus, brilliantly introduced into the orchestra by one of the greatest contemporary perfumers – Olivier Pescheux.
After another 30 minutes … we get to know the French pastry in its highest form – the perfume becomes very realistic “La Gourmandise”. At this stage, Herod is a real olfactory delight.
The final notes are very similar to those found in Chanel Allure Sport and Versace Pour Homme (syntetic musk) over which a not very natural vanilla flavor overlaps – the end surprised me in a way not so pleasant for the price.
    Can I wear it?
Only if the most beautiful girls would eat me 🙂

I love Herod. It has great quality and decent longevity. I have a decant and the juice is orange so I think it is old formulation. Although I love this, save your money and go with Spicebomb Extreme. They are identical in notes and side by side extremely hard to tell a difference. Herod just has higher quality and is softer on the nose.

  45. :

This is a projection master. A great combination of cinnamon , vanilla , and lovely tobacco. The blend is smooth. And it lasts forever. 12+ hrs on skin. 6 hrs of solid projection and it stays for days on clothes. I really love the smell. Its a masculine scent. You will definitely get complements for this, and I also have tobacco vanille by Tom Ford. And even though both has similar notes like tobacco and vanilla they are different in smell. Herod tends to be more sweeter then TF TV.

  46. :

    4 out of 5

I tried it once and fell in love with it. In my opinion this is the best tobacco fragrance in the market. I feel bad that I cannot afford it 🙁

  47. :

    4 out of 5

The main notes I get from this are vanilla and pepper wood, with a sideshow of faint tobacco.
It also smells nothing like TV or Pure Havana.
If you’re looking for something similar to the all encompassing heavy richness of TV there are only two that come close that Ive tried – Phaedon’s Tabac Rouge and Franck Boclet’s Tobacco.
I also find Herod very linear, what you get from the first spray is pretty much it for the duration.

I asked my five year old son to do a review of Herod because his recent review of Coco Mademoiselle Intense was such a big hit. I sprayed Herod on the back of his hand and he waited until it was dry. Then he took a big sniff, closed his eyes, said “Mmmmm!” and then fell against the couch before dramatically slumping onto the floor, back to the couch, with a smile on his face. I said, “Well, what’s your review?” He said, “This is my review! It knocked me out it’s so good!” Haha!
Herod really is that good. Yummy cherry tobacco and vanilla with a cinnamon candy vibe and a soft, warm animalic musk. I really enjoy sweet tobacco scents and this is probably my favorite. I have Pure Havane and it doesn’t have the same sweet, spicy cinnamon as this one, but I enjoy it as well. The men’s colognes I own and share with my husband are Herod, Pure Havane, Spicebomb, Valentino Uomo, Armani Code, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and two I consider more mass market, for clubbing, guilty pleasures Stronger with You and Eros to give you an idea what I like to smell on my man but also sneak for myself. He has other colognes I like on him but don’t enjoy on myself, but these spicy, sweeties are so Mmmmmm, lol! Herod is the king of them all in our collection.

Herod, ahh Herod. This classic opens a little too close to the viral Spiceebombbbb as I would have liked but Herod holds it’s own with remarkable Quality of it’s notes and amazing balance between it’s sweetness and awesome aura that it generates with it’s cinammon note – BUT for 1 screeching, halting issue. That ‘cypriol oil’
If you smell form a distance, there are spices (maybe the pepper actually) along with something verging on medicinal/aromatic that lifts the whole blend into a sort of ‘etheral bakery’ but up close it’s very different; I got a very strong smell of sweetish, vanillic mothballs.
The medicinal/woody note (no oud) sadly sadly overpowers the bakery notes and honestly, it’s as close to a rendition of a mothball that you’ll ever find!
    Pahhh. What a downer.
However, as predicted the majestic drydown is simply mindblowing, 1 of the best smells I have ever come across. All the mothball-oil burns off after 3 hours to leave totally unreserved greatness.
It couldn’t be more different to TV and all the other well-known gourmands if it tried to be a citrus aquatic =)
So pleasing with it’s addictive blend of blonde tobacco but mainly a masterful mix of cinammon, vanilla and maybe cloves/hinoki wood even(?) that gives it another, maybe a bit more strange dimension
Such a shame for all that off-putting nargomotha at the start. Though moths are cool (but filthy) I’m not a moth!!
For me, a flawed gem, where the flaws unfortunately are enough to crack the gem
    My rating: 5/10

YES! This is indeed very very very similar to TM Pure Havane, at least to my nose though. However, very good release from PdM but nothing new.
    Further testing EDIT:
This is just a very good and overhyped copy of Thierry Mugler Pure Havane. That’s it.
Is it good? Of course, just like Pure Havane.
Is it worth the price? Absolutely NOT because one can get Pure Havane.

Well got me a bottle, and what a bottle it is. The cap alone wouldn’t be ashamed to weigh down papers on a desk. The atomizer delivers up a powerful dose. Top tier bottle for sure. I get why some think it’s no big deal, it smells REALLY good and somewhat familiar, on the surface it may even smell a bit designer, but when you really smell it deeply you get so many nuances and notes that give it such distinction. In the best possible way, like a luxury car that has a pipe or cigar smoker owner with a cherry air freshener in it. My TF TV will probably gather dust next to Herod. 10/10

Amazing! First purchase from PFD after a couple free samples and spraying it on in LS before I bought it so I could monitor the longevity/silage myself! Just an amazing smelling fragrance! My go to for the colder months. Used to love Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille but once I got this frag I don’t even want to wear it anymore. Herod is just so much more refined and natural smelling. Completely addicted to Herod!

  58. :

    3 out of 5

Herod is a refined tobacco scent, warm and sophisticated, definitely a bit more mature than your usual designer scent.
The opening is heavy on tobacco and the dry-down is sweeter and spicy. Although it is a tobacco and vanilla scent, this doesn’t resemble to TF’s Tobacco Vanille. It is not so sweet.
It is a classy and elegant fragrance with good projection and long-lasting longevity.

Has anyone recently bought this from Notino? Can you comment on longevity and projection? Lots of comments below about reformulation.
If you have recently bought a new bottle that you felt to be quite strong, where did you get it from?
Definitely the ones at Nordstrom are super weak.

  60. :

Herod is everything I love about D&G’s The One, but so much more! I find the scent warm, inviting, and addictive. My nose picks up tobacco, spice, a dried fruit-like accord, vanilla, and a bit of incense. A 10/10 fragrance for me. It has staying power, but isn’t overly loud. It is sweet, but never too much so. It seems better suited for cooler weather.

  61. :

    4 out of 5

One of the best natural and well balanced tobacco smelling fragrance out there. A woody Vanilla base with floral middle notes of Tobacco leaves that is topped off with some freshness of Cinnamon and Pepperwood -Smoked Vanilla and true Tobacco that is Herod my friends. Class in a bottle.

  62. :

    4 out of 5

Very nice tobacco spicy vanilla fragrance. It kick off with very strong medicinal syrupy vibe but it’s gone in few seconds and then you can smell a lot of spices specially cinnamon and shortly you will get a lot of tobacco notes and sweetness from vanilla in background. Vanilla is not hyper sweet in it. It’s very subtle and plays it’s part to not make this super dry fragrance. As tobacco and spices overdose can make any fragrance super dry and hard to wear. So I would say it is blend quite well.
In heart and Base notes it’s more tobacco, woody and vanilla fragrance and it is best for winter season.
Longevity is very good, projection wise it’s moderate in first 2 hours and then it gets close to your body circle but still you can easily detects it’s presence. It long around 6-8 hours on my skin. Even I noticed that it’s projects more when you wear it in outdoor in cold nights.

This stuff is AMAZING!!! It has great performance, maybe not beast mode, but still great performance. I wouldn’t pay full retail but, online stores have some great sales on this on occasion. I would say it is a safe blind buy if you like sweet fragrances. This is fantastic during the winter.
The sweet cinnamon tobacco literally is a WOW from me. This is the only fragrance to EVER wow me, and I have sampled and owned a lot of fragrances. It is a must have, PERIOD!!!

Dammit. Almost 2 years ago I had bought a small decant of this. Wore it on several occasions and wasn’t too impressed. I pulled it out of the drawer and decided to try this again today after dismissing it long ago. Dressed in suit and tie. Sharp chill in the air. Wow. Incredible. I suddenly can’t get enough of Herod. Now I may have to purchase more, bottle probably. Poor pocket book. I think this is a must have fragrance.

    @Jonmichael
Nothing wrong with being Safe than sorry
No problems at all with Niche doing it, at least it guarantees some level of Quality so why the hate?
Herod is doing a world of good for me (and many others) at least in not straying into the super-annoying herbal-greens / animalic and especially Rose/Oudh and Smoke/leather genres – sick of scents derping on those per million!
Keep shining on Us Herod – we love you =)

This is a tobacco plus sweet and fruity kind of scent. Take Layton and add some tobacco. It’s a great scent, though somewhat expensive and not projecting as much as one might like.
If you are low on cash, Mugler Pure Havane is a great substitute. They are different in the opening, but dry down to a very similar scent in the mid and base.
    Scent: 8/10
    Longevity: 8/10
    Sillage: 7/10

When was this reformed; I’ve been noticing the juice color from legit decanters is almost clear, my juice is a dark orange, when did this change? Now I want try to get and older bottle after hearing lackluster performance reviews from folks sampling new bottles…

Wonderful use of ISO E here, perfect not overkill, doesn’t show up till hours into the life, when it does it feels so perfect

Herod is like the perfect perfume for the dad that figured it all out. And I mean the man with glasses on, your typical white collar kind of man, but not exactly successful.
Instead of putting on a suit, I see him wandering around wearing a sweater (a lime green one) above a white shirt, because that’s his kind of combination. And maybe a blue trench coat. Marine blue, not specifically royal blue.
As far as the smell goes, it’s very refined, but I wouldn’t recommend it on a younger person. Or you really have to be a smart adolescent and whatnot.

I recently received a sampler pack from Perfumes de Marly. Herod is included in the sampler and I gave it a try yesterday. I absolutely LOVE this fragrance! On dry down, it transforms into a beautiful, powdery vanilla/tobacco scent with just a hint of cinnamon. Longevity is good, but projection isn’t stellar, which is disappointing considering the cost. I’ve ordered a sample of Arabian Horse to compare the two side by side. It’s hard to say whether or not this is full bottle worthy, considering the need to keep reapplying it. I’ll leave a review of Arabian Horse after I receive it. There is no comparison between Herod and Pure Havane. They are completely different.
    Scent: 9/10
    Projection: 8/10
    Sillage: 8/10
    Longevity: 9/10
UPDATE: Tried Arabian Horse. It was good, but still not close enough. Bought a full bottle of Herod and am very pleased with it! Projection is better than I thought! Amazing use of Iso E Super!

I feel slightly foolish I bought PH blind hoping for a cheap fill-in for Herod but was sorely disappointed and immediately got rid of it. Herod lives up to its hype… it is an intoxicatingly rich blend and has not a single spike of harshness to disturb its liquid gloss cherry sheen dipped tobacco spice cloud that envelopes you. Will be saving me pennies for this one…

Don’t compare Herod and Pure Havane; otherwise you will do injustice to both!
Many reviews have already said much about this nice fragrance. I want to add again what a few others have also noticed that I get a ‘wetness’ kind of vibe also from it; I mean something like wet/soaked tobacco leaves, wet tea leaves, wet wood/forest, … but there is this wetness factor in it (esp. when you compare with some very dry (and powder-ish) fragrances).
Not sure what in it contributes to this ‘wetness’ vibe but it is interesting and from this perspective in a nutshell Herod is wet tobacco leaves

Okay, let me just dispel the myth here if I can and testify that this has no significant resemblance to A*Men Pure Havane.
Herod is more of a sugared sweetened tobacco than it is a honeyed tobacco. The fragrance abroad boasts a bold musky aroma, amongst a broad array of balsamic notes that together seemingly strive to force project some sense of majesty with their collective. Hints of sweetness strive to reinforce this, yet underlying all this is an ape-ish animalic tinge.
The aroma is a little brooding, and I would say that domineering quality attempts to suggest a presence of danger or intimidation. It’s kind of the uncharming aroma you’d face in the presence of an even more primitive and charmless individual. Not the kind of thing you’re going to charming anyone with either, I would say. So definitely beware the heretics.
    – Neanderthalish missing link
    – Emperor’s new clothes animalic undertone
    – Hardly worth 2 copper—let alone a silver and a gold

There is no tobacco in this. The tobacco note is in fact a Tonka bean aromachemical , which incorporates a hay-like nuance and a cherry facet. That’s why this fragrance essentiall
