Description

Besides the romantic collection Accordo Viola, L’Erbolario is launching another collection in 2012 – Hedera. The new collection with green, refreshing notes is inspired by ivy. Delicate effect of this plant growing over facades of houses inspired creators to launch the Hedera line characteristic for its green color of packaging.

It is also known that in ancient Greece newlyweds used to wear ivy leaf wreaths around their head with a wish to stay together forever, that their marriage lasts forever. Ivy also symbolizes firm bonds, loyalty and immortality. Assortment of the new collection contains perfumes as 50 and 100ml limited edition offering a blend of grapefruit leaves combined with ivy zest and pistachio. The composition is promising fresh, green and relaxing shades enriched with fine aromas of pistachio.

Besides fragrance L’Erbolario Hedera Profumo – 50 and 100ml, the collection also includes perfumed bath, perfumed cream, perfumed soap, roll on perfume gel 15ml and home fragrance.

On a sweltering hot day sitting on a stone bench in the cool shade of a crumbling, damp cloister garden wall overgrown with ivy

Due to a hereditary inability to recognize faces (prosopagnosia), I have my share of social challenges. I rely on other cues — like Context, followed by body shape, speech, and how-the-person-moves, to distinguish people in daily life. Smell helps too. On any given day, I could tell you if my boss has arrived to work yet, by the trail of YSL Jazz.
Olfactual distinction, on the other hand, I’ve had better luck with. Having owned 2 bottles of Hermes Jardin Mediterranee, Rouge Bunny Rouge’s Incantation, Miller & Bertaux’s Greenx4, and Jour D’Hermes, I can definitively tell you that L’Erbolario’s Hedera resembles none of these. Especially the Jour D’Hermes. The closest match out of this set is Incantation x Jardin Mediterranee. Those 2 are decidedly similar.
Intrigued also, by 2 reviewers who got ‘marinated pickles’ from Hedera. My experience is vastly different from theirs. To me it’s a STRONG lasting citrus (lovely!) with a watercolor backdrop of green. The mastic/lentisque note that’s common with Greenx4 is dialed down super-low here. If anything, there’s a resemblance to Floris Lime’s bright hesperidic opening. Unlike most fleeting citrus, Hedera’s stuck the landing with this summer-friendly note! The lasting power is making me smile.

I didn’t even know that ivy had a smell.
To my untrained nose Hedera smells of petitgrain, vetiver and coriander seeds. It’s unique kind of green , it’s not leafy or mossy or grassy. I wouldn’t call it fresh either because I associate that characteristic with citrus perfumes. It’s in a different league completely. This is a deep, calm perfume with cooling effect.
Like walking into shade on a warm summer day.

First of all thank you to the reviewer below – Namida – for giving us the correct notes, and for explaining about the pistachio confusion! Very nice of you, thank you!
It is a lovely green and fresh perfume, Hedera, and very refreshing and soothing. It’s a nice citrusy smell, and also woody, and like being where there’s ivy growing, and you’re surrounded by lots of greenery, on a warm sunny day. Very pleasant and relaxing. And it lasts about 8 hours and gives good projection, so others enjoy the refreshing smell too.

I bought this on a blind buy based on reviews here. What a disappointment!
I was expecting a fresh, crisp and clean scent… no such luck. On my skin it smells like warm pickles and I can’t seem to find one redeeming quality about it. I had much better luck with Papavero Soave (Soft Poppy) from the same company–now that is a delicious scent.
This one I will definitely be giving away to someone else. Perhaps it’s just my skin’s chemistry?

No luck for me with any L`Erbolario fragrances, they all smell sharp and unpleasant on my, admittedly hard to perfume, skin.
Their stores are lovely, though, and the candles nice.

On my skin, it’s so fresh, green…yet so intense! During the day Hedera becomes warmer and warmer. A sweet woody scent with the right sillage.
It’s perfect for office or for a weekend out. 🙂
Note: there is no pistachio here. It’s mastic tree, quite common in southern Europe.

Fresh, green, totally cool as mint, yet longlasting and incredibly comfortable to wear. There is something earthy, but it did not smell of cold, muddy forest, it’s the smell of the garden and I love it. On my wish!

HEDERA is a fresh, green perfume. Natural spring/summer smell. Perfect for day-time use, not disturbing at all. (And not tested on animals!)
It smells citrusy in the beginning, and then the GREEN notes take over. I LOVE this perfume, it makes me feel fresh and it’s natural enough not to be disturbing whether I’m eating or out walking.
The longevity is good, I still smell it hours later.
I discovered L`Erbolario only recently and immediately fell in love with their perfumes! Their range of smells is impressive (I am very picky when it comes to smells). I plan on buying more of their perfumes, but Hedera was an easy choice to be the first one to buy! It’s just a smell that fits everyday use.
If you like fresh and natural citrusy/green scents, this perfume is money well spent! It’s a unisex smell in a charming dark green bottle, and not expensive at all. Great quality!
(Ps. There is no pistachio in Hedera.)

On my skin- marinated pickles, nothing nice or refreshing.

It’s simply stunning, so close to nature, like sitting in a shadowy corner, near to ivy-covered walls. Refreshing sensation to every season, both for men and women. In my skin it has a creamy pistachio base, and it gives to the scent enough warmth.
    Great with TM Womanity.:)

This is a very green scent – I can’t think of a more apt way to describe it. Mossy, herbal and leafy, I didn’t like it at first sniff but it grew on me after a few tries (I had a sample of the body cream). If L’Erbolario products are difficult to come by where you live, The Body Shop has a hand care range called Absinthe which smells strikingly similar to Hedera.

It smelled familiar when I test-sprayed it, and a few moments later I managed to place the scent: very close to Hermes Un Jardin en Mediteranee. Indeed Namida’s review below points out the similarity. The fragrance is deeply herbal, the kind of scent-concentration you find among plants grown in a water-scarce environment. It is not so much a walk in the English woods, with moss underfoot and a brook somewhere, but a deep sniff in the heart of a clay jar that once housed precious unguents; it is bracing, dry, rather masculine, the antithesis of candy, and suitable for broiling hot days in Greece or Italy.

I was looking for an ivy scent, for something shadowy, moist and northern oriented but Hedera is dry-fresh, with a pebble quality to it, bright and totally southern, at least in so far as it clearly reminds me of Hermès Un Jardin en Méditerranée (not sur le Nil ), only greener and softer, with subtle citrus underlining a deep yet airy woodiness.
Still very nice, totally unisex and with a good longevity. Recommended, I’m thinking of getting it for this summer!
Please note: pistachio is not to be found here, in fact, L’ Erbolario site lists these notes:
    Grapefruit leaves
    Ivy sap
    Lentisque absolute
Both pistachio and lentisque belong to the same genus, Pistacio, hence the confusion: pistachio (Pistacia vera) is known for the edible fruits, while lentisque (Pistacia lentiscus) for its aromatic resin (mastic) produced in the Greek island of Chios. Lentisque is also a common shrub of the whole Mediterranean basin, so it is this plant they try to replicate and the woody note of the composition.

I have a sample of the body cream. When I first put it on, I thought I didn’t like it. It smelled rather sour (grapefruit leaf), though not overpowering. I waited a few seconds and it sweetened up a bit, thanks to the ivy scent. This is a very green, slightly woody and slightly citrusy scent. At times, it smells like like a freshly cut leaf, but then it goes back to a sweetish background.
It’s actually pleasant, but I don’t think I’ll buy the perfume.
Edit: You know what? This scent is growing on me. I’m not sure what it is about it – it’s amost as if this scent were choosing me! Now I might actually consider purchasing it when I’ve gone through my bottle of Absinthium. LOL! It sounds bad, but I’m obviously talking about L’Erbolario Absinthium. Look it up, it’s another nice fragrance.

Received this perfume as a gift from my Italian mother in law (reading the description above I have a clue as to why).. I was pleasantly surprised by the scent which has a deep earthy note that reminds me of almond and moss and of walks in the forest after a summer rain. The opening is definitely the grapefruit leaves, it fades after a while to give just enough zest to the earthy pistacchio and ivy.
