I am so surprised that incense is not listed as a note. At first spray an incense-y note is so prominent. With the name Heaven Sent and the angelic looking bottle, you do not expect such a strong opening, but it does settle down fairly soon. This is lovely.

This is just lovely. Always has been.
One of those rare scents that is always liked by
many. No matter how much time goes by.
I always have some of this, and have since the late
seventies. Even along with all my new fragrances I have accumulated over the years.

This is the dumbed down version of Helena Rubinstein’s classic scent. Think I’m being harsh? Compare the perfume pyramids and notes. Really. Go look.
Original notes were Neroli, Bergamot, Amalfi Lemon, Orange, Mint, Carnation, Ylang-Ylang, Rose, Lily-of-the-Valley, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Oakmoss, Amyris, Benzoin, and Musk.
Dana’s cheap rip-off contains Apple Blossom, Bergamot, Mandarin Orange, Jasmine, Rose, Lily-of-the-Valley, Patchouli, Oakmoss, Musk, and Sandalwood.
Perhaps, if all you have is the half-forgotten memory of the vintage perfume, Dana’s approximation of Heaven Sent might remind you of the original. But I’ve had them side by side, and there is no comparison. Next to the real stuff, Dana’s smells cheap. And I am not a perfume snob. I do not have a super refined nose. But to me, the difference is night and day. Do yourself a favor and hunt down Helena Rubinstein’s Heaven Sent on Ebay.

This is a life-long staple fragrance for me which I have loved (and continue to love) in all of its incarnations as it’s changed hands and been tweaked to accommodate IFRA restrictions, etc, all while trying to protect the delicate composition overall. Unfortunately, many of the elements that make these creations so lovable, potent, even memorable are being restricted due to either scarcity or other reasons related to human health. As creators are required to follow the rules, I can’t justify anger at any of them for doing as required.
End rant, onto the actual product review:
This review is for the newer Dana version, the only I have at the moment, in the bottle reminiscent of Estee Lauder’s Youth Dew bottles, the tall, curving/cinched one, in a .5 oz EDP spray.
The fluid itself is a pale gold. I love that there is a fairy-like, baby-grass-in-morning-dew greenness upon application. The floral-powdery-goodness is enriched by the presence of musk and sweetened by the warmth of sandalwood. I’m no pro, and I know that there are other aspects to this fragrance which I simply lack the skill to adequately articulate; apologies.
For me, this is a definite LOVE. I’m grateful that the price-point is so affordable because this beauty disappears far more quickly than I like, though it lasts on clothing quite well indeed.
Overall, I give Heaven Sent a strong 8 of 10.

Warm powdery fresh comfort scent. To me Heaven almost smells like a powdery much lighter version of Tabu. This is an after shower hang around the house, before bed scent. Makes me want to hug myself

I bought this a few months ago but just got around to wearing this today as I thought it wouldn’t go well with the extremely long, hot summer we were having. This is really nice. I could swear there is incense in this but according to the notes listed above there isn’t. The base notes of musk and the patch are definitely the strongest here, can’t make out any citrus and the flowers are very much in the background.
I just initially sprayed one spray to my inner forearm and then forgot about it and it kept wafting up to my nose for the next several hours and surprised me how long it lasted for a real cheapie, about six dollars I believe I paid. I bought two of them, intending one to be a gift but maybe I will keep both!
I will definitely be wearing this more as the cooler weather takes hold very soon. It’s lovely.

This is my second review of this perfume, as it is my second “go round” with it. Received a new bottle of it, and this time around I have to say I love it. The first time I tried it, there seemed to be an acrid tang to it that just didn’t go well on my skin. Must of been a bad batch, because the bottle gifted to me is so much better (same bottle, think it is same formulation).
Sure, there is a little bit of a citrus tang to it on first spray, but after a few minutes, wow! Soft and powdery, and something in it that reminds me of a lavender bath soap we used to buy when I was little. Not quite Love’s Baby Soft, nor is it Chantilly. Almost as if the two of them decided to have a child. The sillage isn’t so strong, either.
Maybe I had a bad bottle or my chemistry has changed. Maybe it is the lotion (slightly powdery scent to it) that I wear under it. Whatever it is, this makes a wonderful scent to wear to work. (One of our managers does not like it when I wear Youth Dew or Cinnabar). This was a big hit. Ms. “I hate perfume” Manager actually mentioned how nice I smell.
Sometimes you just got to try something a second time, or even a third.

I wore this in the 70’s. Its been around for a long time. No doubt its been reformulated. For the life of me I can’t remember who made the one I wore back in the day, I expect Helena Rubinstein. I remember I liked it back then. It was soft and pleasnt, not heavy. Very fresh to me. I wish they would leave scents alone. Why do they reformulate them anyway?

There is a newer (and to me better) version of HEAVEN SENT. In case they change the photo, what’s pictured here is a nearly triangular bottle with an embossed cap that is flat and semi-circular. The juice is pastel blue and smells pretty much like baby powder. Strong baby powder.
The newer version is in a taller, thinner, ribbed bottle with a twist in the middle. The juice is the color of ginger ale. The scent is softer than the blue stuff and has a hint of spiciness. What it reminds me of is CHANTILLY mixed with floral-scented body powder.
The newer version is better than the blue stuff, but it still isn’t nearly as nice as what I remember from childhood – which wasn’t the original HEAVEN SENT either. I think they need to go back to the drawing board with this one.

I really like this but not so much on it’s own. On my skin it really dries down to a cheap, dismal, sandalwood-y note, so I thought I’d try layering this with something else. I tried Coty Wild Musk with this and boy does it make a difference! Lasts way longer, smells more like the older version of Heaven Sent (to my nose anyway) definitely a keeper for me and the best thing is both fragrances are cheap!

The first time I tried this it was a big no, and it went right into the giveaway box. But something made me go save it, and I tried it again. Surprisingly I liked it. I thought it was really nice and soft and comforting the initial citrus blast is fresh and perky and not bitter at all. This may be TMI for some people but depending on where I am in my cycle I can love or hate a fragrance. I must have tried this one at the wrong time the first time. I have had a hysterectomy, because of that I never know where I am in regards to my cycle. But just looking at one that may bring trouble is usually enough to for me to know it’s not the right time for that kind of scent. Sorry if that’s too much for some of you, but I think biology and hormones play a big role in scent enjoyment. I’m glad I gave this one another chance. It’s cheap and cheerful and just right for drifting off to dreamland after a nice bath, however, it’s safe enough for work too. Not straight up baby powder like some of its “sister” scents (love’s etc).

I bought a holiday 5 pack of Dana’s classic perfumes JUST for Heaven Sent. I’m a big fan of Love’s Baby Soft and based on reviews Heaven Sent seems to be the Pepsi to their Coke.
It’s a little more citrusy than expected. I’m used to the pure powder of Baby Soft so the bergamont and orange in this really stand out to me. I find it funny that so many reviewers blast this for smelling too much like baby powder, because I would prefer a stronger powder smell from this. A little heavier on the musk and floral notes and less on the citrus would make this more to my liking.
This is a nice scent though, and what I was expecting based on the ads from the 80s I saw. A teenage girl in her sunday best with a halo. This is for those whose parents wouldn’t allow to wear Tabu or Channel. Very clean, light, airy and unoffensive.
Still, I’m team Baby Soft. Although I might try and seek out a vintage bottle of this and see how it holds up as Dana is famous for taking liberties with their acquired perfumes.

Im sort of confused by this one…the notes listed seem like it would be nice but all i get is talc baby powder smell…literally! Straight up baby powder! Its weird! I do not like this…..

I’ve been trying old drug store perfumes lately and honestly, I don’t hate this one. However I do remember hating the one that was around in the eighties. I don’t even remember what it smells like, I just remember that at that time in my life I equated it with prudish church ladies and wanted nothing to do with it, lol.
Anyway, back to the Dana version: It still conjures images of “good girls” (ah, the ways we are influenced by marketing and packaging). It’s really light and airy. Starts out as a musky citrus and then turns vaguely powdery. It’s not my favorite but it seems like it would be good for summer right after a shower, possibly a cozy bedtime perfume while wearing a shapeless, non revealing, floral, little girl / old fashioned nightgown.

If you remember what Aquanet hairspray smelled like in the early 90’s, then add some powder, you have Heaven Sent. This is a harmless, fleeting, little powdery perfume that you can get for a song. Once I finish my little mini, that’s gonna be it for me. Longevity = 2/10
If this is a perfume you are having trouble finding, I came across it at Walgreens. They usually have a wide variety of gift sets around Christmas time, and they had a set with about 4 or 5 mini Dana fragrances. They did also have a set of a larger full bottle of Heaven Sent with lotion. I won’t be repurchasing, but if you want it, it seems like the price is quite reasonable. Keep an eye out over the holidays. 🙂

I ordered a bottle of this based on reviews at Fragantica. Wanted a more long lasting, “powdery” scent, a little stronger than Love’s Baby Soft.
So when I get this I also got one big disappointment. Powder? No way! At first spritz there is a sharp, acrid smell to it. Wanted to wash it off right away, but decided to wait for the “dry down” scent. Half hour later not as acrid, but still kind of sharp. It smells to me like I spritzed an off bottle of Chantilly. The lotion that came with it though, was pretty decent.
Maybe after a few uses it will grow on me, but probably will just reach for the Baby Soft instead. I can tell there might be complaints at work if I wear this.
Okay, amending my first review. Not bad if you spritz it in the air and walk into it, don’t spray directly on your skin. Finally got the powder scent to it, and the sharpness isn’t as strong. Not bad after all. You just have to give it an hour or two.

My mom used to buy this for me when I was younger. I didn’t like it at all, but still every Christmas I would get a new bottle because I “lost” the last one. Heaven Sent is a misnomer!

The reformulation of this scent makes me so sad. On I recent spree of purchasing scents from my youth I found this online and quickly bought it. In my mind it was classed with love’s baby soft, but a bit more refined and a Favorite of my teen years… Now however, not so much. My husband and step son were seeking to describe the scent and one said “Old lady” and the other said “baby diapers”, and they finally agreed on “old lady diapers’. Sadly, I can’t really disagree. I am too young to wear ‘eau de depends’ and so it sits on my shelf. At least the bottle is pretty.

I am so glad i finally got back to this wonderful fragrance. It took a while to track it down (spelling issue-i kept looking fir scent, not sent) but finally i have it my hands. Thus was the first ever ” grown up” fragrance i was given by my mum after i started work. It did nit make me sneeze too much with hay fever p, and lasted well. Inoffensive, pleasing and always delightfully feminine. I love it all over again

I wore Heaven Sent when i was a kid in the mid 80s. It was soft powdery and pleasant.
The bottle i have now is like that, only add sharp, sweaty feet smell to that.
This has been on my arm for 30 minutes and it is just not good on me at all

I really like this scent more now than when I was younger…It’s cozy snuggly scent.I have been craving sents like it.Love’s Baby Soft,Harajuku Baby and I just ordered Demeter Pure Soap. They are very calming scents…Don’t care about age limits,if I like it I’m wearing it!

I was never a huge fan of Heaven Sent, Even when I was a little girl. Where is the white floral? Where is the rose? The only smell I get from this is powder. Enough said!!

Wow-what a difference a few minutes makes…every time I have ever tested this I have ended up washing it off within 5 minutes:the opening notes are quite harsh and the oakmoss is so overpowering on me as to be almost unbearable.I couldn’t stand it!Well I read in the reviews here that many people had issues with the top notes(but it got better)so I figured I’d give it one last shot and boy it was worth it.
THIS is what I was looking for in my quest for a baby-powder type scent.I have tried Love’s Baby Soft but is is just so harsh on me-this is perfect.Warm, fuzzy and comforting.I like to wear baby lotion at bedtime and this is a perfect scent to accompany it.I am so glad I gave it more time-the top notes are almost sickly sweet on me but thank goodness it passed.LOVE.
BTW-had to laugh at the reviewer who said her bottle had a jacked up sticker on it:mine is crooked too…silliness!
ETA-I can see a passing resemblance to Chantilly but that is one of my all-time perfume loves and this will never top it for me:)

I wore this fragrance when I first got married {many, many moons ago} and I loved it. Until I got pregnant for my first son, then one day I sprayed some on and I got “Violently ill”. My son is now 45 years old and I still can’t smell this fragrance without getting sick. The same thing happened with my beloved Arpege.

I also purchased this as Fragaria had – a gift set at Walgreens for $5.00, mine last year after the Christmas of 2011. Out of nostalgia , I suppose.
I remember it being more of a Chantilly meets Loves Baby Soft.
I gave Heaven Scent to female teachers as a gift for the holidays when I was in grade school, and so wanted a bottle for myself.
I finally had received one when I was a teen, in a mini set.
It is not quite what I remember.
It isn`t as soft as it once was. It seems more strong and harsh. I do not dislike it. I might grab for it, if I remember that it`s sitting way back behind my other fragrances ( it`s a tall bottle,3.4 edp, and yes, label is stuck on crooked ) after I have one of those days that after a shower I need the comfort and smoothness of baby powder.
I will layer with some of the lotion – also strong- and baby powder.
I keep this as an ‘in house’ scent.
I do not wear this out for some reason that I cannot put my finger on…
It does not seem to go anywhere…maybe that`s it, it stays and stays, doesn`t power down, does not change, when I want it to soften up more. More of a pajama scent to me when I want a little extra. I spray lightly.

I remember this from high school. I don’t know what formulation I have, but I just purchased this at Walgreens for 5.00 and it has a swirly glass bottle with the dirt cheapest sticker on it! The label is so awful, and they hardly ever have one on straight! I assume it’s done by a machine that needs an adjustment? If this is a job for a human person, I should think they would fire them! From what I can remember, it is quite the same scent it was back then. Of course I don’t have much of a memory from way back then, but this scent still pleases me. It’s a definite hairspray, musky, clean, annnnd….dated, but just for a short spell. After it’s all settled, 15-30 minutes later, it’s suitable for any age and quite powdery. This is pretty strong with huge sillage at the start so I just walk as I spray so I don’t get a snoot full and wreak the scent for myself. It settles rather quickly and you can smell it for quite a long time on yourself, so I would think others will smell it far longer than you will yourself…long lasting to be sure. This is worth every penny for those of us liking hairsprayish scents. To compare this to something so you can imagine, I’d say, Johnson’s Baby Shampoo….yeah, a bit similar to Moonlight Path and also Jovan Musk or maybe Estee by Estee Lauder. This is cheap happines!

If the people at Dana wanted to make a fortune on this fragrance, then all they had to do when they purchased the rights to manufacture it was the leave the formula just as Helena Rubenstein created it. Instead, they made an entirely new perfume and stuck the name “Heaven Sent” on it. I say they ought to be sued for false advertising because — far from being heavenly — this swill ascends straight from the very bowels of hell!!! There is nothing, I repeat, NOTHING about it that even vaguely recalls the faintest similarity to the original. It smells like a skunked-down version of Cachet. Absolutely atrocious.

  33. :

I too remember this being around before the date it is listed as being launched. My bottle looked different but it was definitely called Heaven Sent or Heaven Scent. Had angels I think. Was sort of a powdery, floral scent. Not sure if I had the kind by Dana they show here or they Helena Rubenstein of the other review below mine. I sure thought I had this in high school or shortly after but according to the launch date that can’t be. Confused…lol.

  35. :

    4 out of 5

There seems to be some confusion about who made Heaven Sent first – Dana or Helena Rubenstein. Helena Rubenstein launched this awesomeness in 1941 and discontinued some time after the 1990s. Dana’s version came around a few years later and is NOT the same.

I really like this. It is super powdery upon initial spray, but it dries down to a lovely patchouli powdery musk and I smell some vanilla sweetness and amber as well. The smell lingers on throughout the whole day leaving a trail behind you. It makes me picture heavenly clouds. It is kind of powdery “chic” not powdery cuddly like Loves Baby soft. There is something very vintage about this, but a “fresh non soapy” vintage, but a “bal a versailles” type vintage. I absolutely feel heavenly with it on. It does not smell half as cheap as it costs. It also makes me think of that movie The Virgin Suicides..strange lol.. But i really like this one. And for the price, whats not to like?

I love this scent, back in the eighties my aunt had a bottle and I loved the soft powder smell of it.. then they reformulated it, and OH THE HORROR it smelled so bad.. thankfully I found where you can buy the original fragrance.. so happy now.

At first sniff it’s like a cheaper version of Arpege. But then it settles down into a soft powdery baby blanket. If you’re looking for a complex adult scent, look elsewhere. This is a pretty pre-teen daydream.

If I understand in the right way your reviews, there is the original “Heaven Scent” produced by Dana and then the nowadays “Heaven Scent” prodced by Helena Rubinstein, is it right ?
Is the Dana original version still available ?
And which are the differences between the Dana version and the HR one ?
    Thanks.

I too got a baby diaper pee smell when testing Dana’s Heaven Sent eons ago. Needless to say, I didn’t buy or wear it. Now the creation by Loc Dong to me is sharp and bitter, then remains fluorescent bright, like green apples. Flowers? Can’t identify any. It’s dry down is not unpleasant on me. There is a note in there somewhere that reminds me of baby powder but it argues for a long while with the base notes. It is modern and definitely would require getting used to. I only paid $1 for 3.4 oz. new. I’ll very likely give it away after a few more applications.

  42. :

Wore it years ago when it was Rubenstein. It was a the type of scent you’d grab and spritz after bath for daily use and not break the bank. Sweet, powdery and soft. Haven’t tried the reformulation.

  43. :

    5 out of 5

My review is for the pre-reformulated version. It was soft, comfy, innocent, a bit powdery, delicate, and very feminine. I loved wearing this because it always made me feel so girly and pretty. I have seen the reformulated version in the stores around holiday time but I’m too afraid to try it, knowing it has likely been ruined by the current manufacturer.
EDIT: I ended up with a small bottle of the new version from a gift set. I determined that my old bottle was made by MEM. I never tried the Helena Rubenstein version. The new one by Dana starts off with a bright burst of citrus which quickly dissipates, then goes through a phase where there is a bit of a bitter note, and settles into a similar drydown as my old MEM version. This all happens in a matter of an hour.

I have very fond memories of this perfume. My grandmother used to wear this when I was really young back in the 90’s, and I remember just hugging her and inhaling her wonderful smell. But then it was discontinued and now she hasn’t worn perfume for more than 12 years 🙁 I wish they didn’t discontinue the Helena Rubinstein version, it’s a shame they do that to a much loved perfume! I bought a couple bottles on ebay and love spraying a little on my neck when I go to bed. I tried the reformulated version by Dana, and it’s just reminiscent of the original, it has that same dry down note of much of Dana’s reformulations. Helena Rubinstein launched a new perfume that’s endorsed my Demi Moore, maybe one day they’ll bring it back. Helena Rubinstein version-heck yes, Dana version-eh…

  45. :

    5 out of 5

I have this listed as one that I have, but ONLY because for some crazy reason there is no option to choose the ORIGINAL Helena Rubenstein formulation. I am nursing a bottle of EDP that was given to me as a gift for babysitting a very young baby back in 1976, so it is definitely the Helena Rubenstein formulation and not the roundly-chastised Dana re-imagining. I find it light, powdery and sweet but with staying power. I love to sleep in it as well. I tend not to wear it in the summer because it vanishes too quickly or gets too cloyingly sweet too fast. I will be very sorry when my bottle is finally gone, but at the rate I’m using it I have some hopes I’ll be gone before the bottle is.

I used to wear this scent in HS. I always got compliments. It smelled like a sweeter version of Love’s Babysoft but more dainty. I could not wear heavy scents and my budget at the time did not allow me to overspend, so this worked out perfect. It smells like baby powder, fresh cut florals, and a slight hint of fruit.

Anybody remember the Heaven Sent ads? They spoke about “rainwashed breezes” and “rainbows”. Or was it “rainkissed breezes”? Doesn’t matter, you get the picture. The ads perfectly captured the perfume’s soft, dreamy, lighter than air, romantic quality. Heaven Sent was many a girl’s first “grown up” perfume. I hope it is yet. Heaven Sent may have been reformulated but it still has that dreamy quality of softly sweet and spicy flowers and powdery sandalwood. It is still full of innocence and hope, full of dreams that can come true. I bet every little girl(like me) who started with this one still has a bottle of it. And even if she doesn’t wear it anymore(unlike me) she still holds it close to her heart.

to me this isn’t an oriental floral. its lighter than that. powdery, clean and white imo. the scents of lily of the valley, rose and sandlewood float lightly on the skin after dry down, with a soft powdery effect. one of my all time favorites.
just clarify, i’m reviewing the vintage scent. my mistake, i never have tested the “new” heaven scent. the vintage is/was a classic.

  49. :

The original Heaven Scent was a soft powdery perfume that was often given to young girls as a first perfume. It was made by Helena Rubenstein. It seemed to disappear during the big musk oil fad in the seventies. Now this Heaven Scent reappears in a new bottle by Dana with a completely different fragrance. I think Helena Rubenstein would turn over in her grave if she smelled this stuff being sold as Heaven Sent. Maybe the original was old fashioned but this new stuff by Loc Dong smells like another cheap , soon to be discontinued body spray. It’s not better, it’s worse. They should know better than to pee in a bottle and tell us it’s the Heaven Scent we grew up with. If you want the Helena Rubenstein Heaven Sent check on eBay for vintage bottles. It was sold for Christmas in small bottles and you might be able to score one of those.

    I’m sorry but… Eww!
I tried this as well as smelled it on someone so I know this definitely is not my body chemistry, or lack of, when it comes to this version of Heaven Sent. This is so far from the original Helena Rubinstein’s version it’s not even funny. I agree with previous reviews that say that it’s very misleading to release a (superbly mediocre) fragrance under the name many of us “geezers” know and trust. Isn’t there some copyright law against this?
My fond memory of the original, Helena Rubinstein’s Heaven Sent is that of soothing powdery and yet crispy fresh fragrance in a tall, “swirly” glass bottle with a turquoise blue cap with little cherubs on it. The fragrance was just lovely, and I wore it for several years back in the early eighties.
This new imposter version by Dana is nothing like the original one; different scent, completely different bottle, cheezy looking and smelling even worse. Why do they always have to take a good thing and frack it up?!?

I agree with mrssweetiebear. I want the ’80’s version.

I want the original Heaven Sent by Helena Rubenstein that I wore in 1960s in High School. But it is not even listed here to add to my list. The one by Dana is NOT Heaven Sent. This is a Huge Pet Peeve – changing a perfume but keeping the same name!

I just picked up a .50 fluid ounce bottle (EDP, almost full) of the orginal Heaven Sent by Helena Rubenstein in the 1930s at a vintage boutique last week. I remember the scent from my teen-age years, when it was considered very sophisticated and elegant by the high-school crowd. It does have a lovely floral, powdery warm opening, and then ends with a sort of sandalwood note that now seems a bit too complex and mature for your average high-school girl! Has anyone else tried the Helena Rubenstein version? How would you compare it to this one?

You know I think this is a beautiful scent but here I go again saying that such a beautiful scent was created then GREED took over! Its so week and watered down that it can be found in the ninety nine cent store by now. It was a beautiful concept put to cheap use by greedy manufactures-what a pity! It is a Heaven Scent straight to the fires below. It could have really been something if someone would have been willing to market this powdery scent in a strength that last longer than one minute!

I think this scent is perfect for younger people…..under 14 perhaps. Sweet, light, a bit of powder and all innocence. Very nice.

I was little disappointed of this one.I thought it would be really fresh and pleasant, but I could barely smell anything.
