I have an older version in a squared bottle. Dont know if it is the first one but I also think it was made in the 90ies maybe even the 80ies if you think about the parfumeprofile.
And this is a big, bold, strong smelling parfume.
On me it is mostly patchouli, it smells quite similar to Pradas Amber.
There are other wellblended notes but nothing I can distinct.
Nothing like Angel on me but that is probably the reformulation people are comparing with.

Here in Greece, we have a lot of tagetes during spring and summer. Harem to my skin is full of gorgeous unique smell of tagetes. It reminds of Angel at first spray. Dry down is more luxury and delicate in Harem.

It’s sad to hear when a unique perfume gets reformulated. But it also goes to show that time as well as your feelings are elusive. Memory is all that remains. Even if they hadn’t or perhaps actually haven’t reformulated this one, it would have changed over time because its chemistry reacts. So, you can never be sure what you have really smelled back then, and how it compares to what you are smelling right now.
Anyway, I once knew a girl who wore this one – judging on the comments below it must have been the first incarnation. It really felt like a special fragrance, and suited her well. …because it was a special moment, and special moments will be remembered just like that.

This fragrance was not issued in the 2000s but earlier. I remember well my friend wearing it in 1995. It smelled awesome, unlike anything I ever smelled before. I wanted to order it online but after reading the reviews about being reformulated and a totally different fragrance, here and on a German fragrance site I changed my mind. Sooo sad, I really wanted it so much! Can anyone who had the old version and has the new one too compare?
Anything similar? I remember it being more delicious, fruity and sweeter than Angel…

I ordered this from a friend, remembering all the pleasure it gave me in the late 90’s..
But they must have changed the original perfume a lot. The old one had real Great sillage and lasted for days. I remember that I still could smell it after having washed my tops..a sexy, warm and potent scent, less fruity than this one.
A real shame they changed it,

LR had a fragrance called MONOLITH,discontinued ends of 98 (i think)..I am wondering which famous fragrance LR copied under the name MONOLITH?(It was in a blue bottle)
If anybody knows or remember please refer…
Thanks

Very nice perfume. On me it is very close to Prada Amber.
It is a little stronger on the patchouli and a bit dryer.
I cant get any caramel, chocolate or orange note.
The vanilla is also hardly noticable.
It is pure patchouli and amber.
(I have the old formulation).
I like it a loot and it is often the one I grab for daytime use.

when they changed the bottle they also tuned down the forumulation, it smells now rather like chopard wish than like angel from mugler. what a shame…. still nice but not the same 🙁 staying power is not as good as the old version. happy to still own the original stuff.

I was LR salesperson in 1998, and Harem was already then in the collection. The bottle looked a bit different then. The info says, it was launched at the 2000s. Have they changed the perfume then, and kept the name? I don’t think so, it sounds like the Harem I knew.
It was a very popular LR scent, many women bought it from me. It is a very unique oriental scent, with good lasting power and heavy sillage.

well to have REALLY nothing in common with angel as some mentioned, this has obviousely a few notes in common with angel 😉 my nose never cheates me, it smells INDEED like angel, but more refined and less harsh by same intensity.
this one is really old ! shurely muglers perfumistas where inspired by it when they created angel. this one by LR was the first real gourmand perfume i knew in my life far away to the first launch of angel. both are rich oriental-vanillas with a bunch of patchouli, chocolate and caramel mingeld with tender jasmin and a juicy frity opening. angel has a colder vibe than harem and it’s more honeylike here harem is ambery. but the rest is identic, so plz angel lovers, go and try it out before you refuse to accept the obvious similarity as well in the pyramid of both scents.

i agree with Blimunda, this has nothing to do with angel. Other than the articulated patchouli note.
This fragrance is a lot more refined and sexy than Angel. To my experience the closest to this nice fragrance would be Queen Latifah’s Queen (although that one is a little sweeter and boozier).
I can recommend this to those who like a gentle take on patchouli.

exactly like Angel, I agree

i have this since many many years, still in the old version bottle.
i was used to use this several years ago for nights out and i always got compliments on this. yes there is left still pretty mutch because i used it with light hand always. it’s powerfull and longlasting.
incredible, when i first sniffed angel when it came out, i knew that i did smell this before, even if it was hyped as a revolution in perfumes, to me it smelled very familiar, but i din’t know why!
i had forgotten about my harem because i’m owning and wearing so mutch newer scents in the last few years – but now by reading the reviews here, i know about the WHY of my thoughts: i sprayed both – each to one of my wrists, and they are really almost identical untill the caramel-vanilla drydown which one is softer/tender and more comfortable for harem by LR. stunning discovery!
by wearing harem recently, my husband told me it smells sooooo sexy and better than angel… he likes angel too but it’s too mutch offending and less sexy than harem (he’s used to call angel a somehow aggressiv fume… harem it’s not)
guess on the bottom notes, angel is darker, harsher and louder because of the patchouli-tonka-mix.
angel-lovers: give harem a try !

I was about to purchase it but, fortunately, I got a sample that gave me closer idea of the scent.
It’s not the oriental vanilla that I’ve expected. It’s more of an oriental woody at first sniff.
The intriguing initial gourmand notes are probably overdosed that they taste bitterish. Veeery harsh and heavy at the beginning but once the top notes settle, the development becomes more pleasant to the senses and the gourmand-vanilla nature of the fragrance begins to unwind. Yet, its deep exuberant character is detectable in the very beginning by any experienced nose.
In fact, I don’t find it as insolent and offensive as it seemed to me a year ago, when I received the sample.
Now I rediscover the dark chocolaty side of it. Beautiful, sensual, poisonous and rather heavy oriental. I’d compare it to Omnia by the impact it has. Definitely for winter and special occasions.
I’d surely give it a second thought. :-p
