I bought this back when it first came out and have received numerous compliments (mostly from men) when wearing it. Definitely strong on the berries and I do get vanilla a bit, but there is also something deeper and a little bit…spicy? And kind of sexy. I sprayed it on one wrist last early evening and can still smell it at noon the next day – I find the longevity excellent. I still think it smells fantastic although it’s not one I reach for as often as I once did, but that’s the danger of perfume collecting. 🙂

Hanae Mori No. 1 smells like raspberry lemonade, and is exactly the type of refreshing and light perfume I crave when it’s 90-100 degrees and humid. It’s never too much and has the perfect balance of being fresh but feminine.
I think Lalique Amethyst does the blackberry note a touch better but this one is wonderful in it’s own right and I’m glad to own a bottle! I like how it is airy and light and natural smelling, but don’t like that it is not very lasting :/

this was my first Hanae Mori fragrance and hope it won’t be my last. Unfortunately No 1 was a limited edition and no longer available – I have searched for another bottle many times in the last couple of years. This is a floral fruity gem and a wonderful daytime fragrance. I wish it was still available.

I, too, am scared of the fruit. I have a minimal fruit wardrobe. They don’t wear well on my skin usually and often I come away feeling like I’m trying too hard to seem younger than I am. But the thing about gourmands is that let’s be honest – my generation was the first to go nuts over them, so why not just accept that this is what some more mature ladies still like? Plus, I’ll just wear whatever I want.
This is the only perfume I have ever been gifted. Brave friend, but it turns out…I’m honored.
No 1 is a berry pie. I like the citrus in the opening but it doesn’t last very long on me. Quickly the lemon fades and I have a nice light berry-vanilla scent. Some comment that this lacks complexity; I happen to think that if this were any more complex is would be the heavy mess we so often lament in our fruits. So, no. This stuff is lovely, perfect in it’s simplicity. It doesn’t last too long, it doesn’t get too big like Butterfly. It dries down to a perfectly acceptable dark berry pie crust vanilla with barely-there floral notes. As mentioned, this is one of the few fruities that doesn’t let out a dying shriek at the end, and for that, I am grateful.
I don’t know how easy this is to find anymore, but if you like sweetie fruity fragrances, this would be a wonderful addition.

I got a bottle of this in a swap last summer, took one sniff, and quickly dismissed it as too sugary-fruity-vanilla. I don’t enjoy the original Hanae Mori very much (too bubblegum sweet for me), so I might have been a little biased against No. 1. But while pulling out some bottles for to put up for swap recently, I decided to give it another shot—and I am really enjoying it! I think it’s partly that my tolerance/appreciation for sweet and gourmand fragrances has grown quite a bit over the recent months, but I also do think this is a much nicer frag than I initially gave it credit for. It *is* sweet and fruity and vanilla, but not screechingly so. This is a soft, milky, creamy vanilla with a zesty fruit opening and berries mixed throughout.
Speaking of zesty: I just sprayed some on tonight after taking a shower and, for the first time, am getting a lot of lemon, well into the 40-minute mark. Which is a surprise because I hadn’t gotten much lemon in any previous wearings, and what lemon I did get was more of a lemon custard/lemon meringue vs. this more fresh lemon note… Curious! So I do still have things to discover about No. 1.
Aside from this particular wearing, I would say that No. 1 smells *exactly* like Givenchy Hot Couture EDT if you took away all of that frag’s smokey/rooty (vetiver?) notes. It’s the younger, bubblier cousin to Hot Couture’s clove-smoking beatnik, perhaps.
Longevity and sillage are light-moderate… so spray some more! I am glad I hung onto this one and look forward to seeing how it wears in the days to come.
P.S. If anyone has a spare HM butterfly cap lying around that they don’t want, please PM me! My bottle came cap-less and could use a little hat for itself. 🙂

This scent requires a little patience:
I loved this fruity, woodsy, vanilla-y fragrance when I tried it on at the store. So, I bought a bottle.
I was horrified when I sprayed it the first time and it smelled overpoweringly, cloyingly of black current.
I went back to the perfume counter and asked what the problem was. The salesperson wasn’t sure, but thought that the tester was “old.”
Determined, I continued using the fragrance. Finally in about a month, the scent mellowed out into the fabulous vanilla experience I had at the store. Whew!
This has been my favorite perfume ever since it came out.
I am really sad that it’s been discontinued and is now hard to find.
Fortunately, Neiman Marcus is still selling it!

This perfume is really like Hanae Mori Blue Butterfly EDP on steroids–extra tangy, extra sweet, extra delicious. I prefer the quieter Blue Butterfly (which I’ve been wearing out lately).

It begins as a freshly squeezed lemonade with berry syrup frolicking merrily together, and it transforms into a soft creamy musk with ever so subtle lemons and berries whispering to each other in the background.

I thought I would love this based on the notes and the reviews. And it’s nice but not my favorite. I mostly smell sweet berries. Like a berry smoothie. It seems rather one-dimensional to me and the lasting power isn’t great. It’s fun, youthful and summery. But I don’t find it sexy or exciting.

i really liked this initially but i guess my taste changed throughout the years.
i have a 100ml EDT bottle up for swap in Australia. PM me 🙂

I just met the co-founder and president of the company that makes the Hanae Mori fragrances and he signed my No. 1 bottle! He’s incredibly handsome so I think it’s pretty cool. I LOVE No. 1 and I LOVE my No. 1 bottle even more now! Ha! LOOK HIM UP! Thomas Saujet! : )

HANAE MORI N01 is a *very* fruity, fruity-fruity (not floral) perfume! Blackberry, blackcurrant, and raspberry completely dominate the composition from start to finish, which is good news if you’re looking for a fresh fruit facsimile, but bad news if you’re looking for flowers!
Since this creation is said to contain jasmine, I’m going to try to mixing it with a jasmine soliflore in order to up the overall perfumic integrity. As it stands, N01 seems to me like only half a perfume and quite a bit less complex than some of the other blackberry-centric fragrances I’ve tried, including the Trish McEvoy variations and even VS VELVET AMBER BLACKBERRY. The fruits here do smell inviting and authentic, but they leave me wanting something more.

This has all of the berry and none of the smoldering warmth of Givenchy Hot Couture. For me this is a tidy version of HC (subtract the pepper and vetiver) There is something about the raspberry in the two scents that is less fresh juicy berry and more sweet hard raspberry candies. I do sense a hint of musk and sandalwood smoothing out the fruity edges. I enjoy this scent very much because of its similarity to HC. A good daytime version. The sillage is quite powerful at first but becomes quiet after a couple of hours. Lasting power is satisfactory. If you love the way the berry is done in Hot Couture, you might like to try this.

Fresh, tart and creamy, with a subtle dark bitter-mint undertone from the dark berries. This wears like a deliciously clean veil on your skin that warms your senses without weighing you down.
A well balanced floral fruity with a naturally elegant feel that will easily capture your heart. This is one of my daughter’s perfumes that I steal a squirt of now and then.

quiet, gentle creamy berry scent which wears close to the skin. so close it whispers. but it is beautiful.
wispy smooth with the faintest hint of oil as it hits the skin in much the same way as Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy.
the mix of berries with their fresh green leaves & the tartness of grapefruit create a sheer & spectacular opening.
this is a citrus-berry which you hope never leaves you; the intriguing top notes are gently scintillating albeit fleeting, so hurry up and take it in, or blink and it’s gone. some of the most beautiful things in life are always ephemeral. *sigh*

the first spray is knock you down bitter and then its gone to a very faint gourmand pie smell but i mean ever so faint its gone as soon as you spray it,last maybe 5 minutes at most…I honestly cant believe Hanae Mori would even bottle this for sale there is nothing to it you are buying a bottle of alcohol with a very very small amount of scented water…this is so ridiculous because the very faint smell is so pretty but so gone..body sprays last alot longer than this EDT

I smell blackberries, and lemon custard (presumably the sum of citrus and vanilla), but what really makes this one stand out is a mouth puckering tart and slightly acerbic note. It reminds me of black tea and verbena, and has something in common with L’Occitan’s Verbena edt. Perhaps this is what they are calling bergamot and grapefruit. Whatever it is, it’s lovely.
The dry down is a slightly powdery version of the lemon custard note, a faintly sweet skin scent. I don’t normally care for vanilla gourmandes, but the bright tart top notes set this apart from the rest. I can’t stop sniffing my wrist.

Like a photorealistic warm blackberry pie. Unfortunately, the EDT has NO lasting power whatsoever; about an hour. It is not available in an EDP. If the fragrance had better lasting power, I’d buy it in a hot second at any price.
Reminds me of Victoria’s Secret Moods “Succulent,” which has been discontinued

This is a pretty scent but it doesn’t last at all – it’s about like a body splash. I sprayed it on and one hour later it was barely detectable. by one and a half hours it was completely gone.
When I first spray this, it smells like some kind of berry-citrus fizzy soda :). Then it dries down to smell like sweet vanilla & berries. I’d describe this as a bright, bubbly fragrance – not particularly warm. it would be nice to wear in the summer. I think any age can wear this – while it is sweet and similar to popular “teen” scents like Britney Spears etc, this smells much more natural, more artistically executed, and just all around higher quality – it does not smell synthetic or generic. a lovely scent, lovely bottle, but not worth it to me because I do not want to reapply every hour.

I have a sample of this and I agree it smells like a better, less sythentic Britney Spears Midnight fantasy. I smell berries and vanilla but the middle notes have a tart note from the lemon. I love that part and it is very wearable for every season. Have to get a bottle

Creamy, dreamy fume. At first there is a bowl of berries, huge, ripe juicy ,the smell alone makes ur mouth water.I catch a hint of jasmine but its not enough to b called floral,Later, the berries seem to b stewing in a pot of vanilla.so sweet, sexy and brings a smile to ur face. Not overbearing not sharp.smells like comfort food. This must b a comfort scent.Lasts a long time.

HELLO….Midnight Fantasy is that you??!! 0.o This smells just like Midnight Fantasy except it is fresher, lighter, and not as artificial. The lasting power is great as well. ;’) But if you can’t afford this scent I would simply suggest buying Midnight Fantasy and layering/cutting it with a citrus oil/lotion. And then….BAM…there you have it…Hanae Mori #1.
Update: It is know available from online retailers for as low as $30 for the tester bottle. I am ordering mine as we speak!!! WOO HOO! Patience is really a virtue! ;’D

I was able to test this last week..and I would love to own a bottle. I have always been a blackberry lover and a musk lover..this is a great combo of both that gets slightly. Muskier as it dries down. To my nose, this is more of a berry gourmaund. Along with kastilemi (sp? Sorry) …I don’t like the other hanae mori creations…but I wish this one was a keeper!

A truly fruity blackberry fragrance-light and warm-has some tartness to temper the sweetness. The jasmine note is very soft and light-Surprisingly elegant and balanced floral fruity, not synthetic at all. Becomes a skin scent that never loses the blackberry idea. If you are a blackberry lover, you will probably like Hanae Mori N01-if not, don’t bother. My other blackberry experience is with Amethyst by Lalique, which is pleasant and perhaps more tart, but more soapy and floral than fruity-this one surely wins, and would deserve the name Amethyst more. Why should the more enjoyable fragrances always be limited editions-I don’t personally like Hanae Mori original or Magical Moon but they will continue to be easy to find. Very irritating!

Yippee!!! Finally got my bottle today. I love it! I smell alot of sweetly luscious dark berries, with a hint of citrus, and vanilla. the jasmine is folded in nicely and discreetly. It actually smells VERY similar to Mistral Blackberry which I also have. LOVE them both!!!! Perfect for the warm weather!!

Thank you so much for adding this to the database!!!
This is one of the few blackberry fragrances I can wear. It smells like warm raspberries and blackberries, jasmine, and musk. I am surprised to see black currant, grapefruit, and bergamot in the notes, because usually those notes create a tart, crisp, or refreshing effect on me. This fragrance is soft, fruity, and warm…not loud, nor sharp. It’s also not your typical floral-fruity fragrance.
    I love it!
