Description

“For the collection named as “SHADOW PLAY” launched in 2017, NISHANE has got the main inspiration from the traditional shadow play which is also known as shadow puppetry, an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment which uses flat articulated cut-out figures (shadow puppets) which are held between a source of light and a translucent screen or scrim. The cut-out shapes of the puppets sometimes include translucent color or other types of detailing. Various effects can be achieved by moving both the puppets and the light source. A talented puppeteer can make the figures appear to walk, dance, fight, nod and laugh.

KARAGOZ (meaning “black eye” in Turkish) and HACIVAT (shortened in time from “Hacı İvaz” meaning “İvaz the Pilgrim”), ZENNE (the common name of the generally beautiful and flirty women featuring in various plays) are the lead characters of the traditional Turkish shadow play, popularized during the Ottoman period and then spread to most nation states that comprised the Ottoman Empire and most prominently in Turkey and Greece.

The creative directors Mert Güzel and Murat Katran dreamed of bringing the legend of Karagoz & Hacivat into the today’s world. Under the inspiration of their playful characters, the perfume trilogy has been created together with the perfumer Jorge Lee. Just like the theme of these shadow plays, the main objective of NISHANE was to emphasize the contrasting interaction of the people that we can see in every single culture.

HACIVAT is a tribute to elegance, competence, and love of art.

ZENNE is a tribute to beauty, self-confidence, and flirtation.

KARAGOZ is a tribute to wittiness, straightforwardness and sincerity” — press release of the brand. Hacivat was created by Jorge Lee, Murat Katran and Mert Guzel.

    Just wanted to add something:
To me, this is way more like Bond no 9 Scent of Peace than it is like Aventus. That beast has pineapple, too.
I think the oakmossy nature of this is more akin to the cedar accord in SOPFH, and less similar to the birch in Aventus. Also the strength and longevity, both blow Aventus out of the water.

This only reminds me of Aventus because of the pineapple top note. The opening is bright with some bitter citrus, but then after 30-60 minutes, patchouli mingles with birch. After 5-6 hours, I smell the most amazing oakmoss. This is such a beautiful fragrance – the quality is amazing, and it is potent! It has enormous presence without being overwhelming. I get at least 10 solid hours, and beyond that it is still a luscious skin scent.
I was not looking for this at all, but so happy I found it. I just ordered a FB and am excited to try others from Nishane.

A friend of mine gave me 10ml and practically guaranteed it would be my new #1 favorite. Yes i own Aventus. No it’s not my #1 favorite (it’s my 2nd favorite).
Having said that, i highly expected a mind-blowing jaw-dropping opening; i didn’t get that, BUT it was a nice opening. Fruity sweet with a weird almost juniper-like feel to it. I will admit i honestly do dismiss perfumes sometimes if they don’t instantly WOW me, but i liked it and went on about my business.
Maybe 20 or 30 minutes later, the wafting aroma was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. It was lightly sweet, naturally fruity and a bit musky which really brought it all together. NOTHING like Aventus at all, not even worth another mention. What i thought smelled like juniper, starts to smell oakmoss-y at this point.
I’m really interested in this house having tried this, and my friend also sent me Bluebijou but I’m going to continue enjoying this one for now. Easy 9 out of 10, this is exactly the sort of scent that i like.
Oh, one more thing, the sillage of this smells remarkably different than if you smell your wrist. On the wrist it’s enjoyably kind of sour but in the air it’s light, crisp and sweet. When you smell it in the air whether on yourself or someone else, it really makes you take notice.

This is perhaps one of the most overlooked Aventus clones on the market. It doesn’t smell exactly like Aventus, but very similar, and in my opinion better. This one is a great mix of Aventus and Bleu De Chanel in my opinion. It opens like Aventus and the pineapple is nice neither overly sweet or dirty. After 30-45 mins I get oak moss and birch. There also is definitely patchouli and some subtle florals, probably Jasmine. Longevity on my skin is easily 12 hours and probably more had I not showered. Lasts on clothes for weeks. I can’t get enough of this stuff. There is really no need for Aventus when you own Hacivat unless you are just a diehard collector, but I found out long ago that any Aventus after about 2013 is not even worth bothering with. Hacivat basically just does everything Aventus does, but better. You don’t have to worry about batches or performance issues whatsoever. This stuff is expensive, but DEFINITELY worth it, unlike current Aventus. A 50ml bottle of this stuff will last you years because it’s very potent and you never have to reapply, just 2 sprays in the morning and you are good for the next 24 hours.

UPDATE 3. I’m doing this thing where I take turns wearing Creed Aventus on one day, and Nishane Hacivat on the other day (sometimes both in the same day after a shower).
I hate to write this but yes, I do smell similarities between the two, but also big differences.
Okay let’s pretend these fragrances don’t have pineapple as the main note.
Aventus, is a woody and smoky fragrance with a hint of bergamot until it turns into a musk at its end.
Hacivat, is a fruity fragrance with bergamot and grapefruit as its leading notes until it’s turns into an oakmoss scent at its end.
Without comparing the two, these two fragrances are very beautiful, masculine, and wearable in the day or night. They both garner a massive amount of compliments and are long lasting.

I FINALLY OWN A BOTTLE of HACIVAT!
I told you guys that when I finally had an extra $240 to spend that I would spend it on this fragrance. So here’s an actual review from someone who actually owns the bottle and not just giving you a review based on the sample.
First off, I need to address the elephant in the room. THIS IS NOT AN AVENTUS CLONE. It’s not even similar to Aventus. I think psychologically because we in the fragrance community think of Aventus as the king and protector of the pineapple note that any fragrance with it instantly gets compared and judged. So I want to emphasize that Nishane Hacivat is its own fragrance. Honestly, the bergamot and grapefruit override the pineapple note (in my opinion). But Seriously, any review (including my past review) that mentions the pineapple note as the main note must be writing a review based on a sample (like I did) while unconsciously being biased of the pineapple note, and making Hacivat go to battle with Aventus. I proudly own both fragrances knowing they’re in two entirely different lanes of niche perfumery.
Okay, on to my actual review!
I made this fragrance my signature fragrance for the weekend since it arrived on a Friday (Side note: the packaging/box/presentation is very well done). I wasted no time, applied five sprays (left, right, and backside on the neck, and both wrists) and right off the bat, bergamot and grapefruit (and I guess pineapple too!) fill the air with a beautifully blended aroma fit for any summer in any location. That’s about it for about the first 5 hours (pretty linear) until it eventually turns into oakmoss!
Let me go ahead mention the longevity/sillage really quick, because what I really want to talk about is the lasting power/durability of this fragrance.
(Based on experience with friends and random people)
Longevity of Projection at 6ft plus: 2 hours (top notes)
Longevity of projection at 2ft-3ft: 3-5 hours (top and middle notes)
Longevity of projection at a closer distance: 6-8 hours (middle and base notes)
Longevity as a skin scent: 12 hours+ (I’m not exaggerating, that oakmoss note (base notes) is there to stay!)
Okay, what I really want to talk about is how much I’m fascinated by the durability of Hacivat (and for those of you still wondering if it smells good, just look at my previous review, it smells beautiful). On Sunday I went paddle boarding through a system on mangrove trees in St. Pete, Florida. I was upset that I had to cover Hacivat with a layer of DEETS Bug Spray to not get bitten but, oh well! While paddle boarding, I had to apply another layer of bug spray within the two hours I was paddle boarding. So at this point, I smell like a walking can of flammable roach spray (my fragrance has been long dead at this point for about 4 hours since I initially applied it!). Afterwards, I drove to Ellington, FL to see a friend (still smelling like a can of RAID (5 hours now)). There, I took a shower with Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash making sure to wash away all the chemicals off of my body. After the shower, I dried off and to my surprise, my neck and wrists (while only a skin scent) still smelled like Hacivat! I was amazed! I smelled like Dove everywhere else but I smelled like a luxury extraction of oakmoss where I applied Hacivat. In my last review, I wrote that I applied Hacivat before bed and woke up still smelling like Hacivat! I knew Hacivat would last without interruption, but to still be alive and kicking after an unintentional manslaughter from bug spray was phenomenal!
    Compliment Factor:
Women complimented me all weekend, especially within the first 3 hours. My guy friends complimented me, and my nephew gave me a hug this weekend and said “uncle you smell good” so kids like it too! But most importantly, I like it (love it), and that’s truly all that matters.
    Final Words and Thoughts:
There’s only three fragrances that I love to wear day or night: Layton by Parfums de Marley, Baccarat Rouge 540 by Maison Francis Kurkdjian, and Hacivat by Nishane Istanbul. Hacivat is a must have for the summer (or any time of the year). It is a more-than-safe blind buy for experienced fragrance connoisseurs and those who are new to the niche world of perfumery. Hacivat is also a very new fragrance (and unheard of, I think), so more than most people will not have it in their collection if you’re wanting something not everyone will have. It is blended very-well blended and will last you throughout the day making it worth the $240 dollars (especially for it to be an extrait). I’m wearing it right now as I write this review at work!
Scent: 9/10 (9 instead of 10 only because the bergamot makes me think of other fragrances it could be similar to)
    Longevity: 10/10
    Performance: 10/10
Compliments: 10/10 (especially in an elevator!)

Man…. I heard about this fragrance (and brand) in an article and I became so curious that I went and bought a sample online. By the time the sample had came the hype and curiosity that I had had lessoned. I had the sample for about a week before I actually tried it. One night I was bored and decided to try it at about 8pm (a few hours before bed). It smelled beautiful. It reminded me of Aventus, but only because any pineapple scent will remind you of Aventus! But this was beautiful, I can’t explain it. It was just a beautiful, luxurious smelling fragrance with a clean, non-synthetic, non cloying, sweet natural pineapple note beautifully blended with other notes that I wasn’t trained to smell yet. Like something I’d want to wear year around. Anyway, once I got over how good it smelled I got into bed. I woke up at 7am, smelled my arm and DAMN! it was still there, pineapples and DEFINITELY oakmoss, strong as ever, as if I had just put it on less than three hours ago.
Long story short, this is one to definitely have in your collection if you like fruity scents with longevity. I cant comment about to the sillage or compliments because I didn’t go anywhere, but I can tell you that it lasts and lasts! But as soon as I have $240 to spend freely, this is what I’ll be using it on.
For the Aventus fans out there, don’t worry! This is not an Aventus clone. Aventus is not the only fragrance allowed to have pineapple as it’s main note. Hacivat is it’s own niche fragrance and goes in its own direction.
    Longevity 10/10
    Scent 10/10
UPDATE June 1st, 2018; I just purchased a full bottle from Luckyscent.com. Another real life experience review coming soon, I will talk about compliment factor and sillage.

One of the best smelling and long lasting fragrances I have ever came across, yeah youll get your die hard aventus fans who wont admit this but this is FAR better quality than aventus… aventus has been watered down massibvely and only lasts 2 hour max wereas nishane hacivat lasts over 8 hours.. its a no brainer, at least you don’t get all this batch crap, it has its own scent and the pineapple note is gorgeous 10/10

Hacivat is a uniquely superb, natural masculine scent with a touch of natural sweetness. I can see myself enjoying this in early Autumn during Cider Mill season surrounded with falling leaves and the changing colors of the season.
Hacivat is the ultimate pineapple batch without the nasty smoke prominently found in Aventus. I find Hacivat to be a work of art, light-and-airy featuring a rich and powerful pineapple note that is very realistic, natural ,and high quality.
The pineapple is paired with citrus; however, there is a hint of dirty vetiver and blackcurrant that make Hacivat slightly off putting to an otherwise easygoing scent.
One spray and you’re set for the day as this juice is powerful! I might make this my signature scent over Creed Virgin Island Water. It’s a fantastic modern classic and smells so amazing and high end.

Yes, it is similar to Aventus but with (significantly) better performance without any worries around batch issues and the like.
Save your $$$ and buy this instead.

At the top dollar range, you cannot be a niche if u have copied a theme. Why we honour clones – ‘Layering’ would be the key word here I think; OV Creed with Mugler Cologne, TF vanille with givenchy pi , Aqua Gio with Nautica voyage; would be good to have something with Aventus:-). My two cents.

This does NOT smell like Aventus. Mostly a soapy smell on the opening. Dries down to a powdery fruit. Great longevity. Sillage underwhelming. Not worth $240 in my opinion.

Ok, so fruity scents are my new year’s issue. I have been looking for one for ages. Tons of perfumes show wonderful top notes full of fruit that after some minutes become tiresome, boring or way too artificial. Some other are great but unfortunately AXE and cheap deodorants have fruity notes on their new launches and wait… it is becoming harder and harder to differentiate between smells of 300usd and 5usd! That wouldn’t be a problem if the actual smell of most didn’t feel that phony. Fruity notes (Im not talking about citruses, that’s another discussion) can be then tricky for they smell artificial and ubiquitous. This happened to me when I tried More than words by Xerjoff. I loved it for 10 minutes until I realised it was too close to my brother’s regular deodorant.
What to expect then from this pineapple? Well… I’m in love with it. It is incensey pineapple at its best. You may feel some citrus for seconds but for hours and hours what you get is a gorgeous dusty pineapple, not sweet, not tiring… very natural, just perfect. I love it to tears and think it would make a precious summer scent that lasts and radiates quite well. It is not invasive and you get what you expect. Only con: 240usd for 50ml is crazy and I don’t think I could ever consider it unless it drops significantly.

I get the comparisons to Aventus up top but to me this takes a different direction, I love Aventus but this has a bright creamy accord that is simply beautiful- stays on my skin a good 12 hours.

This one is a great mix of Aventus and Bleu De Chanel in my opinion. Initially seems like a stronger aventus..In the drydown, I get the some similarity with BDC

Tried this for two days and I can tell you that this smell is amazing. Performance is good, but I really thought an extrait de parfum would be stronger and project more. The hefty price tag doesn’t help. I passed…but I love it.
Edit: It’s so good that I went ahead and bought it. Lasts waay more than I thought.

THIS is what I want my man to smell like!!! This is so sexy and I find it a little different than Aventus. It’s a touch creamier and does utilize the notes in a different manner, as another reviewer stated. Would I wear this? Probably, but it seems more fitting for the man of my dreams. A+ certified winner!!!
Update: tried this again, and I would definitely wear this!

Pineapple, lime and oakmoss, the typical unsecured guy fragrance. Typical chypre.
It’s like a bitter citrus, oakmoss, vetiver, woods, salty pineapple, & aqua (slightly metallic). A typical day fragrance for designer’s fragrance lovers.
This fragrance is classified side by side with “Aventos” by creed. It’s going to be a hit among his collection and def the best seller of them all. To me, no creativity in it and grand MEH, my favorite remains “Fan Your Flames”.

  23. :

    3 out of 5

I suppose the comparisons to Aventus are unavoidable here..there are the smoky elements and the fruity pineapple elements to it, after all. Hacivat definitely stands on its own, however, and uses these elements differently. A couple key distinctions I notice are that this is a richer, thicker scent that blends the two elements differently into a more linear and homogeneous mix; the pineapple and smokiness come at you all at once and are never really separate. Whereas in Aventus the pineapple has a fresh, juicy and more natural interpretation, this is more of a candied pineapple – a pineapple lifesaver, maybe – that is balanced out by an equally strong smoky, mossy side. because of the thickness of this scent and the more ‘syrupy’ or candied pineapple, I find it could become cloying on hot day and lends itself better to a cool spring or summer night

I don’t want to protrude but this perfume is going to be celebrated and loved by masses I dare to challenge Aventus by Creed. Elena brought me full bottle of this amazing perfume from the fare at Esxence Milano Italy that she got as a gift and sorry everybody I am keeping it for myself no giveaways with this.
Now about compliments… I am wearing it for the first time and I applied it under chin, behind the neck and on both wrists… so 4 sprays… opening is so uplifting and optimistic instant mood booster. After a while I am not aware of the scent so much but it is there lingering. It does not bother me at all… then after almost 2 full hours I go out of car and see neighbor she is on the first floor balcony about good 20 feet / 10 meters distance she asks me “Oh! You smell so good are you making something new?” Well, she knows that we create fragrances for The Vagabond Prince and she smelled many versions of our fragrances even before they were released… I was stunned that she could feel Hacivat from that distance. I told her “I wish! This is something new Elena brought from Milano”. That puts sillage/projection to “monster” definitely and also longevity is great I got good 8 hours out of it before I took shower but I believe this fragrance is going to follow you from morning to evening easily.
Yes this is great pineapple fragrance and oakmoss, jasmine… it is really divine. I am wearing it full two days already and I am pretty confident this one is keeper.

This is a wonderful perfume, which I smelled from Murat Katran and was absolutely charmed how light, sensual and inoffensive it was, but still very present.
It is fruity, fresh, citrusy, mossy, and I bet it has a black currant note, or some gives it in a combination with other ingredients. It is much better on men.
