Saffron with leather opening, followed by slow burning incense and stewed apples. Appropriate for Winter or cold weather. Good performance: more than 6 hours before turning to skin scent, longer if sprayed on fabric.
The only thing stopping me is the price. I wish PDM sold smaller sized bottles.

Sour apple and frankincense. Oud and saffron are hidden somewhere.
    Beautiful fragrance with average performance

I’ve grown very fond of this house. Outstanding quality juice here, as always! This is my 5th from this house and even though they all share similar dna, each has its own gorgeous development.. With this frag in the opening I get that saffron and olibanum. Middle notes of apple, woods and rose then in the dry down that ambergris, caramel and myrhh take over. Very creamy… Love it!! Longevity & sillage is through the roof!!

A much over-rated fragrance house….IMO. This one is average at best and has low sillage/longevity, at least on me.

I received a sample of this when I purchased a bottle of Layton. After trying it on my skin, I immediately ordered a bottle at great price from Fragrancenet.
To me, this is a sophisticated fragrance that works like an orchestra throwing out all of the sensual ingredients that is alluring to anyone who is in your circle. Try it, before you buy it. Its not blind buy worthy because of the price.
If you like Habdan but find that it is a bit pricey for what you are getting. Try “Windsor” by English Laundry, it is very potent & better smelling than Habdan. In my opinion “Windsor” is what Habdan should of been. Don’t get me wrong, Habdan is a great fragrance, but Windsor is far better and a fraction of the price.

To be honest, I don’t like it for the first spray, somehow weird. Maybe because I’m not used to saffron. But when it settled down on my skin, I start to get something interesting, it’s sweet, warm, but also clear uplifting like some summer fragrance. It’s a well done fragrance, but certainly not my favorite from the house.

It’s astonishing the lack of people among the 1000s here singing choirs about ‘wonderful caramel and apples’ mention the absolutely ghastly opening.
I was hoping the 1st 2 notes would just sneak by me on my skin and then the goodness would come virtually 1st spray but NOPE
This is a saffron bomb. An atomic bombe de saffronnn
It crashed out of the sprayer on me a total mess of weirdness; sour / sweet muffled and all drowning in the knockout-punch pungency of the saffron and frankincense – it was like being gassed!!
It really drew up some grim images and THANK GOD, I didn’t spill my wallet on this just just going by the gushing reviews like brides/grooms at a wedding or lovers at a romantic fountain.
    Phew!!
Literally, it takes even an hour to settle but even then , the caramel is more the annoying ‘buttery’ type than the addictive Sugary/syrupy fest of say, Roja Enigma’s drydown.
The thing which was most alarming was the sourness in among the mess of the incsence and saffronated opening; like a weirs pot-pourri gone wrong.
Certainly, this is nothing like the Cinna-bun, pleasing opening of Herod, though I disliked even that due to the Cypriol oil (virtually another hinoki-wood or oudy thing)
I’ve come to realise that Herod’s trend is to be pleasing and make some of the best drydowns on Earth but having powerful openings to attract the user – but with a pungent / weirdass note tossed in there somewhere.
Or just be Oajan and do a photocopy-job of Ambre Nargulie xD
Very sad – and people – PLEASE PLEASE BEWARE AND TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!!
It also helps if you’re already manned-up and can take massive disappointments in life and going by how this was the next Aventus, thankfully I’ve been round the blocks enough to pass even this bandwagon up readily and tell it how it is on me!!
    My rating: 2/10

I’ll keep it short, as it can be summed up very easily – WOW, JUST BUY IT!
Honestly, this is outstanding to my nose. I don’t get apple pie personally but it is just sweet enough without being cloying,it is smokey but not ridiculous. This is just done so well, I’m so happy with this purchase.

I don’t know what people are talking about below me. First, Layton Ex. and Habdan are quite different if you have a trained nose. LE is more minty, spicy, and woody while Habdan is much, much more sweeter and balsamic. You can rock LE in the spring to near summer while Habdan (along with Oajan) is much more for the winter (unless you’re in a control environment). Second, any fragrance by the house of PDM is much more rich and has more depth than any Bvlgari fragrance, hence the price difference.
Now to my actual review, another great oriental fragrance by PDM. The combination of notes that are in this fragrance is a masterpiece. Habdan and Oajan are some of my favorite winter/clubbing fragrance. Both of these bad boys can pierce through anything in a night club. And personally, just judging on pure scent, I’ll have to choose Habdan over Oajan. However, based on compliments from girls, Oajan has the notch. But both are amazing buys and amazing fragrances!

I wore this after Latyon Exclusif the day before and didn’t realize how similar they are. I prefer Layton as the projection and longevity are better. So….save your $$ and but Leyton Exclusif….otherwise you will be getting very similar fragrances. I have both and wish I stuck with one only.

Save your money, buy Bvlgari Man extrême or Bvlgari Man in black !! Don’t let people fool you with the caramelised apple or whatever. It’s not unique nor artistic for a fragrance that claims to be in niche quality..

  12. :

    5 out of 5

The opening sort of reminds me of Bvlgari Black but with a lot more sweetness. Really want this fragrance to grow on me because I had anticipated it to be my new “Grail” scent, unfortunately it has not lived up to that status yet but I will continue wearing this sample.

There’s something about the apple note that smells familiar. Which gives the scent a familiar pleasant, half-gourmand character. Then the smooth balance of opposites of caramel and spice, floral and resinous, envelop that tart caramelized apple in absolutely beautiful blend.
    Everything is in perfect balance. Dry-juicy; spicy/bitter-sweet, smokey-floral, resinous-gourmand.
    It’s just… dope.
    Good performance. People dig it.
    9.5/10.

Probably the most complex scent in the PdM lineup at the moment. Smoky, caramel apple with myrhh and woods. A lot going on and every second is beautiful.

Got a nice compliment from a femaile co-worker. She stated something smelled like incense in the room and loved it, she said it made the whole room smell nice. So, nice sillage on this one and a compliment-getter for sure.

According to the notes, I was a shoe-in to love this scent.
I gave it two tries and both times had to scrub. On me this is VERY manly, and there is a note in there that I cannot stand but not sure what it is.

  17. :

Scent – woods, myrrh & olibanum.
Season/Time of Day – I prefer to use this one in the colder months, day or night.
    Projection – I didn’t get noticed, I didn’t get a compliment.
    Longevity – I get 6hrs consistently.

  18. :

Wow! This is now one of my favorite scents! It opens up with a crispy Apple note with a little creaminess from the caramel and gradually I get a little rose then the Myrrh comes in dominating the dry down with olibanum and ambergris. I still get hint of the Apple and caramel in the background.
Overall this is a very delicious and sexy scent. The performance is good too!

Habdan is a Saffron Bomb, & actually smells more like a leather with some sweetness & spice, more than it does a borderline gourmand spicy that smells like an Apple Pie, or Apple crumble.
Its a nice fragrance, but i was a little upset. I love spicy frags. Especially ones that smell like Apple Pie, or Apple Crumble, but to say that Habdan smells like either of the two would be very misleading.
However, Windsor Pour Homme from English Laundry smells exactly like an Apple Pie or Apple Crumble. Theres no mistaking that one. As soon as you spray Windsor Pour Homme, right out the gate you smell Apple Crumble over Lavender.
Habdan is so light & so not a gourmand that i’ve actually worn it on a Summer night.
Dont get me wrong, i love Habdan…But its no Apple Crumble. And you better damn sure love a Leathery Saffron if you blind buy it.

Moderate-soft sillage, moderate longevity. Stays close to the skin after a few hours. Light smoky and incense fragrance. Good quality and recommended for those who prefer not have a beastly sillage. Heavy bottle and especially cap! This seems more like a nightime fragrance. For the money and considering the weak performance, my overall grade would be a B-.

  21. :

If you like the top notes in this you will probably LOVE Tom Ford Plum Japonais from top to bottom.

  22. :

    5 out of 5

Probably one of the best saffron scents I’ve ever smelled. The sillage isn’t a beast; it’s close, but not so close that only you can smell it. Definitely has good longevity where you can still smell it on your skin 12 hours later.

I forgot that I had a new bottle of Hadban downstairs in the Scent Armory (purchased this past Summer) waiting to be opened this Fall. It’s like an early Christmas! Well, I opened it yesterday and wore it last night…and again this morning. First take is that it’s really nice but it didn’t grab me by the short-hairs and scream, “Take me home, sailor!” LOL! Don’t get me wrong…Habdan is very nice but, like some have mentioned, Habdan cannot make up its mind whether it is a gourmand or a balsamic/incense fragrance.
I should immediately love this one since I am a huge incense fan and not-so-much the sweeter fragrances. However, if I’m going to do a gourmand then I would rather jump right in and wear something like Dior Feve Delicieuse or, better yet, Hermes Ambre Narguile for that Dutch Apple Pie vibe. And if I want incense (frankincense, myrrh, etc.) then I’m apt to go with something like Tom Ford Sahara Noir, Montale Kabul Oud, Rouge Bunny Rouge Embers, Comme des Garcons Avignon, etc.
Regardless, Habdan appears to have struck a really nice balance between an apple-pie vibe covered with caramel and brown sugar, while wrapped in a resinous/incense background with a whisper of saffron. Again, super nice…but too early to tell if this hits the right spot—for me—but I’m sure it’s going to be well-received by others because it is ultra pleasing, ultra smooth, and a quality fragrance.
Performance is solid on my skin in that it lasts 7-8 hours, but not as good as others I have from Parfums de Marly. Likewise, projection is average to slightly above-average. To be honest, it makes a perfect date/intimate fragrance for the Fall/Winter seasons.
Update: I had a little more time to spend with Haban and I’m loving it more and more. Offhand, I would say that it is my 2nd favorite Parfums de Marly scent right behind Herod. Of course, I just cracked-open my bottle of Darley early this morning and loved it immediately. So many great perfumes from this house.

Habdan is a delicious aroma! You get the frankincense and myrrh and then a caramel apple. It is sweet but you have some rich darker notes in there too. The smell on the top is amazing. My only complaint would be that performance is not that great. It lasts several hours and then gets very close to the skin. Not so many complements with this one unless it is after first putting it on. Without the performance issues this would get a perfect score. Regardless, it is still a 9 out of 10.

In the most possibly non-serial killer sort of way…may I borrow some of you folk’s skin?
How are you getting 10/10 sillage out of this? How!?
I put three generous sprays on each wrist, roughly four hours ago…virtually gone now.
I went to the grocery store 30 minutes after spraying aaaaannnd…nada -.- nothing. No comments, nobody noticed. Ran into a friend there. Asked how they liked the fragrance I was test driving. They couldn’t smell it unless I was shoving my wrist in front of their face like a slow motion bar brawler with bad aim and the lost hope of a Christmas morning covered in sugar ants.
    Sad again :0(

Definitely not as sweet as Herod. And I think I’m liking that. I enjoyed the freshness of the opening. Now the saltiness of the ambergris is coming through. I think I like this one slightly more than Herod.

I just added this to my collection to give me 3 officially from this House: Oajan, Herod & Habdan… Please allow me to give my two cents worth on this SUPERB OFFERING from the House of Parfums de Marly………. In my humble opinion, this is one of the most criminally underrated in the ENTIRE LINE having sampled all of them as well as reading several reviews in the fragcomm!
Habdan is a phenomenal oriental-vanilla that sits right in between Herod and Oajan…… If you want something that’s STRONGER or more potent than Herod, while having the nuances of Oajan- Habdan is your baby! WHY……?!?! It’s balsamic, it’s a little smokey, it’s got caramel, it’s warm, it’s got spice, it’s fruity, it’s ambery, it’s got some resins in there & it’s very very REGAL – just a beautiful fragrance … It’s very resinous, very opulent and IT WILL garner you compliments big time! Again, it’s sits right in between Herod and Oajan, but on steroids….! It’s a MUST BUY to be worn in the winter or very cool/cold temperatures….!
    Sillage: 10/10
    Projection: 10/10
    Longevity: 10/10
Versatility: 5/10: Only because of season and occasion…. For very special occasions!
    Compliments: 10/10
    Scent Quality: 10/10
    Overall Rating: 9.2/10

Parfums de Marly seems to have mastered three things: 1) The spicy oriental 2) Niche fragrances (at niche prices) that wouldn’t seem too out of place in the designer, mainstream market (as far as they are appealing and never too “weird”) 3) Fragrances that resemble other fragrances that came before them.
Habdan ticks all of these boxes quite handily. It’s certainly a spicy oriental, though it’s not very dark or heavy. There are caramel and apple notes that do a nice job of pushing Habdan more toward the playful, light-hearted side than the serious, austere. At the same time, Habdan also possesses a pleasing opulence, achieved through the spicy incense olibanum (which is present from the start) and a base rich with myrrh. As the olibanum combines with the caramel and apple it creates a sweet/spicy aroma with the vibrant texture of a full-bodied incense. Immediately upon smelling it I realized I had smelled something very similar before, though it took me a few days to remember what exact. It finally occurred to me that Habdan shares quite a few similarities with Baldessarini Ambre, which could be described as a spicy amber fragrance with notes of caramel and apple. Habdan could appropriately be named Ambre Intense, as it resembles a very beefed up, more robust and complex version of Ambre. This isn’t a knock against Habdan at all, as I’ve always liked Ambre. Therefore, the idea of taking it to the next level appeals to me, and it never becomes too complex or overdone as to feel awkward ostentatious. As Habdan reaches its final stage it sits closer to the skin on a base of myrrh (which, to my nose always displays subtle hints of vanilla and citrus), amber and caramel. But it’s not overly sweet or excessive in its use of amber, and is mostly dominated by myrrh.
Habdan smells like a Parfums de Marly fragrance. There seems to be a certain quality or texture that appears in many of their fragrances and it’s definitely present here. It might be described as a pleasantly synthetic resin or incense. Performance is solid, though it’s definitely not “beast mode.” I get moderate projection for about 5 hours followed by 5 more close to the skin. As far as season and occasion are concerned, this could be worn anytime of the year but preferably in the evening during the warmer months. It seems fairly versatile as well. Because it’s not a particularly serious fragrance, it can be worn casually, but it possesses enough sophistication for more formal scenarios. While Habdan isn’t groundbreaking, and may possess some familiar aspects, it smells good and it’s fun to wear (who doesn’t like the combination of caramel and apple?). And if you really like Ambre by Baldessarini, you may just find yourself a new favorite.
Thumbs up and highly recommended for sampling.

Parfum De Marly Herod has been my signature scent for awhile now. So I had to start sampling others from this house. As of this review, I own bottles of Herod and Pegasus. I have tried samples of Habdan, Hamdani, Oajan and Byerley. This review is on Habdan, I have reviewed / will review the others as well.
I purchased a sample of Habdan a few weeks back. Opening the little vial, my initial sniff from bottle was a spicy apple sauce vibe. That was interesting. Upon application to my skin I got a fresh spicy and clean vibe with hints of citrus. As Habdan develops the caramel joins the party, adding a little sweetness to the scent. As others have pointed out, it is not an overpowering sweetness, but enough to add depth to the spiciness.
A very well balanced fragrance of high quality IMO. It is a little softer than Herod, but just as good in terms of quality. Herod is still my favorite fragrance from PDM, but I would put Habdan as my second favorite. I will be adding a bottle to my collection at some point.
Bottom line: If you like incense based scents or scents that balance spicy and sweet, you should try a sample of this one.

The weirdest thing just happened, I woke up and it’s almost 12 hours since I sprayed it on…and not only is the smell still there but it’s completely changed…..it now smells like Gucci Envy.
Don’t ask me how as it started off as a completely different scent, and they don’t share any notes, but what I have left on my hand right now smells exactly like Envy….weird

So I received Habdon by Parfums de Marly today and I am blown away! What a great fragrance! I can’t speak in comparison to Herod or any of the others by this brand, however, this is quality stuff. Habdon opens with a citrusy woodsy fruity blast from the spices; there is sweetness that is boozy, but not syrupy…I think cherry (my wife mentioned that it has a peachy feel). I’m not getting the apple/caramel bit, however maybe that is what I detect as fruitiness. I do however get a slight floral affect as the spices and sweetness come together….Habdon is slightly dark, but not as dark in sweetness as that of Bois 1920 Real Patchouly for example. Habdon maintains its woodiness so much as to not relinquish its essence-incense/sweetness. Wonderful fragrance!!!
I can’t wait to give this a full wearing!
Projection is great, longevity is outstanding (sprayed this on the back of my hand at 4:00pm and it is still there going strong at 12:00am); sillage is fantastic!!!
Overall, I think this is a great acquisition!

What a beautiful blend. This one is not as loud as oajan which is one of my favorite frags of all time, I like this second and then Herod. I own them all and enjoy this house for the quality they put out and their flankers are like bricks . I think they are made with lead or tungsten lol. Great stuff and you will get compliments. I like this house it’s one of the few houses when I have tried a sample of each one and wanted a full, bottle. Don’t let the retail price scare you, u can find these discounted at 125ml bottles for $180ish. Not that expensive for what you get

Apple? Which apple? The fragrance smells like CHERRY + labdanum on me. Very aristocratic.

  36. :

    4 out of 5

Judging by the notes you’d think this would be a Fairly sweet scent but its pretty far from it. It’s a nice balance of a little bit sweet and a little bit spicy. The apple and caramel are very subdued playing a key role in the background keeping the composition from being overly spicy. The Olibanum,Myrrh and saffron are the main players in the beginning sweeteing up a touch deep into the dry down where I can detect more of the apple rather than caramel. An enjoyable fragrance but If your looking for an overly sweet, apple pie/crumble like scent then you certainly will be a let down.

  37. :

    3 out of 5

I am loving alll of the PDM line and this one would have been a favorite if it wasnt for the fact that I feel Ive smelled this somewhere before…for a lot less $. The initial spray is great; very strong yet smooth, semi-exotic and sensual even.. as the dry down begins though, I am reminded of another fragrance in a black bottle. Please correct me if I am way off on this one, but the dry down very much reminds me of Polo Double Black. Sure it may not be the exact same- there are nuances, but still. I might have to re-try Polo Double Black but for this price point Id want there to be enough of a difference when paying a high tag. I feel the same way about Godolphin and GoldenBoy. Herod, while a take on tobacco vanilla by TF some say, is still unique enough to be worth a full bottle. Just my take.

  38. :

    3 out of 5

From its opening to dry down, Habdan is a great balance of spicy and sweet, the sweet notes of caramel and apple brightening the stronger incense notes, which anchor the sweet notes. It reminds me of the sweet/tobacco balance of Herod, and as with Herod, this balance is what makes Habdan so appealing, as it’s neither overpoweringly spicy nor sweet. I’d say that it becomes sweeter in the dry down, as tends to usually be the case, but it doesn’t lose the balance of incense and sweet elements. And unusually for me, I can actually smell both apple and caramel aspects, though it doesn’t create a “caramel apple” dessert smell.
I see this as more of a cold weather scent to the incense notes primarily, functioning for both day and night use. Much like in Imaginary Authors’ Memoirs of a Trespasser, I love the use of myrrh (and Habdan’s case, frankincense) as it rekindles memories of church.
Projection and longevity are both strong, as with the two other Parfums de Marly scents that I’ve tried (Herod, Pegasus). So it fits the bill as a EDP marketed as luxurious, but, as with PDM’s other entries, it’s cost-prohibitive to own a bottle, as the only size/price available is 125ml at $275. It’s a very good scent, nonetheless. If the sweet/incense combo sounds appealing, I definitely recommend trying this.

Attirata e incuriosita da tale piramide olfattiva ho voluto provare questa fragranza….
    Ma…for women ?????
Esclusivissimamente maschile, proprio NON per me.

    Hmmm !
“Inversed notes”, the “traditional” top-note Apple in the middle notes, together with Rose & Woodsies.
    Saffron in the top notes.
    1. “Usually fragrances get richer, darker and heavier
in the mid and base but this is at the opposite side !”
    (Kain: april 28 2014)
    2. “Pleasant but nothing new or unique at all.”
    (same reviewer)
That conclusion leaves me a bit perplexed in
    relation with the first quote.
Sounds interesting and promising to me !
Maybe just what I’ve been looking for for some time now.

First I got a lot of incense with apple…..that slowly faded and I was left with an apple/vanilla….the apple then faded and in the drydown it was very sweet but also a lot of myrhh. Longevity was good and sillage was also great….definitely gonna get a full bottle.

    Parfums de Marly Habdan
