I found a sample of Gaelle EDT on ebay and snapped it up, figuring it’s highly collectible, on this side of the Atlantic at least, as it long predates YR’s launch in the US. The original box is time-stained but the juice still seems fine, although after 40 years there is bound to be some change – I just don’t have any previous experience to compare my splash to. Gaelle opens with a burst of jasminey citrus, and within moments the chamomile emerges – a little powdery, a little soapy, but not too ticklish for my nose and throat. Within an hour the drier notes emerge to tame the powder, and it softens into an austere Chanel No. 19-like drydown. It feels more casual than 19, but it’s definitely from the same school of green chypre. This may be a mere ghost of what Gaelle formerly was, but I like it.
Does anyone know what the mystery note “couarde” (cited in the notes transcribed by chiaramis) translates to in English? I cannot find it in French translation to mean anything other than “coward,” so I am baffled.

@Chiaramis, merci beaucoup.
Judging by the notes, it seems that Gaelle had been one of those green-chypres so fashionable in the 70’s, in the fashion of Chanel nº 19, Alliage, Azurée, Ivoire, Fidji, Aromatics…Pity that Yves Rocher has such annoying trend of discontinuing very soon interesant items, and not release them again (with the exception of a range of old perfumes -Vie Privée, Venise, Ispahan, En Avril un Soir…- in collector flacons that they launched in the early 2000’s…only to withdraw them again the next year; for the records, Gaelle was not among them).

Bonjour,
Description:
Lemon, bergamot, jasmine, chamomille, clary sage, couarde (?)
Fruity notes
Patchouli, oakmoss
