Fragile Jean Paul Gaultier for women of Jean Paul Gaultier

Share:

Description

Voluptuous and mystic tuberose which makes you live ‘dangerously’ rules in the heart of eau de parfum Fragile. As usual, Gaultier plays with our associations. Fragile is the warning word usually printed on the outer package with delicate and breakable items, and the box of Fragile was made in that fashion. It is fun and intriguing. Intoxicating smell of tuberose in the top notes is followed by raspberry leaves and sweet orange blossoms; pink pepper and other spices compose the heart, while the warm woody notes and light musk create a dazzling lingering trace. It was launched in 1999.

The nose behind this fragrance is Francis Kurkdjian.

I have a little one and a big-ish one. Globes. Vintage style tuberose. If you like vintage scents and dark, sophisticated scents, reminiscent of aldehydic fragrances of earlier decades, you may like this. It brings a depth to tuberose.
Yet again there are ‘similar scents’ listed which are nothing like this. Lady Million is light years away from this.

A very warm and sweet and quite overpowering floral fragrance. I bought a bottle when it first came out because I was a huge Classique fan. I also loved the bottle. The fragrance did nothing for me so I almost used it up and unlike Classique I never bought fragile again.

Amazing scent BUT!!!!The liquid becomes discolored over time. (It becomes dark). And the glitter loses its sparkle. This takes away from the magic of the figurine in the middle. I gave this to my sister for Xmas last year. Brand new bottle, preserved and sealed for years. The bottle design was not built to last. But still a great scent.

Glorious dark heavy 1999 fragrance. The juice on this darkens and deepens with age as does the fragrance within the bottle. This one tends to age well and for the most part if stored nicely will hold it’s integrity well. Fragile is heavy and it does have tuberose but it’s not the kind you smell in Sand and Sable – this is not a beachy tuberose. It’s a thick seductive and intoxicating version. Anyone who was into perfumes will remember Fragile even if you have never smelled it before. Once you smell it you will go “oh yeah” I know that scent. It’s because everyone wore it back then. The heaviness stays and lingers for a very long time. Dammit how I wish they still made perfumes of this long lasting quality. This one of course was discontinued which surprises me somewhat. But I guess just like everything she became dated and not fashionable as the newer scents that started to emerge in the 2000’s. This has the heaviness of Classic original but they are not the same. Classic has an odd after note that emerges 10 minutes after spraying and it’s got a cola note. This is heavy tuberose in it’s best form.

Smells exactly like Classique only in a different more attractive looking bottle! Ok so I’m a fool for beautiful bottles to add to my vanity dresser table collection which I then display on YouTube videos when I make a video review of the perfumes I wear/have worn. If you like Classique then you’ll like this because it’s the same thing except with more of a spicier tangier taste. Smells like they added more vanilla and it’s somehow sweeter and more innocent/girlish than the “adult” Classique. The bottle is a snow globe with a diva in a black dress in it. Who came up with this idea? The folks who work for Jean Paul Gaultier are so damn creative!! I love it! This is a beautiful fruity floral gourmand dessert without ever becoming too cloyingly sweet sugary or headache inducing. It makes a fine intro to perfume for a young girl. I bought two one of me and my daughter and she loves it even though she is the type who wears Victoria Secret perfume and Katy Perry Paris Hilton perfumes.
Fragile opens with orange blossom and tangerine citrusy notes, sweet and fruity, possibly a peach or apricot. It’s a delicious fruit smoothie scent. Then I detect the florals which are made up of a very distinct rose (2 notes of it) and carnation, not to mention iris. The big flowers are the white floral notes in this bouquet and they are the jasmine and tuberose. Oh goodness what a gorgeous tuberose. It’s not too overwhelming for a tuberose either. The jasmine is lovely. A lovely transition from orange blossom to rose and to white floral tuberose. This smells like a good floral hair shampoo. Feels great on my neck and blouse. This is a lovely day wear perfume to wear more for yourself and for other girlfriends to notice how good you smell. I like to spray this on my hair like hairspray and over my clothes. Powdery and subtle, feminine, sweet and so pretty. At the dry down this is a cinnamon spice with musk and plenty of creamy vanilla. A vanilla cake.
Fragile might have been discontinued from stores but it’s still available on ebay. A very good perfume if you already wear Classique and want to try something similar well it can’t get any more similar than this. Great for spring and summer, day time, casual, but can be very good for wearing on a date. Romantic. Feminine, delicious, just a gourmand dream of a perfume. I love it. And this one my whole family likes my hubby and daughter. At the school where I teach now all my students love it. I have even taken this perfume with me and put it on my desk for everyone to see and they always ask about it since they mistake it for a regular snow globe. Sometimes I spray my female students with it. They’re under 12 and 10 and love my perfume. They ask me where they can buy it I just say ask your parents to get it for you on ebay. Perhaps it might be a tad too mature for some girls who like to smell of berry candy or cotton candy but this is still very girly.

This goes on a fruity chypre then dries down to a woody floral with mainly orange blossom, jasmine and maybe lily with cedar. There has to be lily and oakmoss in this or my nose is going.

It’s interesting how we don’t appreciate something until it’s gone. Back when it was released this perfume wasn’t understood and consequently didn’t become popular, but now that it’s discontinued and hard to get, it suddenly became N1 desirable…
The opening is a very strong, yet pleasant, feijoa fruit, that soon leaves the stage for jasmine, yang-ylang and tuberose. Gosh, it has a lot of tuberose! Miss Tuberose is definitely the star of this performance! I don’t find it overwhelming, although I can see why a some people would. It lasts throughout the day on me and has medium sillage.
As for the name… Well, I like it. I think it suits the fragrance. Gaultier has been quite direct with the image of a person he had in mind for who he created this masterpiece: a gorgeous, well-dressed, sophisticated lady, that may look fragile on the outside (like the bottle itself), but is made of steel with a strong willpower on the inside, a woman that knows what she wants (the strong, uncompromising content of the bottle).
Maybe the bottle isn’t practical, but so are high heels and cocktail dresses. I love it. I would only wear it to the theatre or opera though, just because I want to forever enjoy looking at the little figurine completely submerged in fragrance with golden sparkles floating around her.

I can see why this was discontinued. The bottle was unique and original, but not practical.

I received a sample from a nice girl on here…my first one! This is a very delicate light ethereal perfume. One almost needs a special occasion to wear it. I did note the undertone of Classique there’s a signature scent in the JPGs which is like fine hairspray almost at the beginning..then crystalline white flowers, blossoms,a bit of powderiness. I think I will wear it on new years eve a with a silvery dress.
Bottle design is unique and pretty, I love snow globes.

To me, this smells like a walk in the autumn; the scent of crunching through a sidewalk of orange and brown dried maple leaves. The opening smells like orange blossom and tuberose, but after that, just fall foliage with ginger. I love it. I don’t think it smells anything like Classique, which is powdery makeup vanilla leather on me whenever I’ve worn it. But I don’t own Classique so I’m curious to test it again to see the connection others smell.

One word: PRETTY!! This was a gift from a Fragrantica Friend. Thank you Gigi!
Fragile is a sweet lighter EDT version of Gaultier’s Classique. I don’t know if anyone else has made the connection but the notes are virtually identical to those of Classique and there are many similarities. Both fragrances are fruity-floral gourmands with lots of powder, vanilla and feminine sweetness. Both perfumes are quintessentially girly and very delicate boudoir perfumes for the girl that loves being a girl. Like Classique, Fragile is a fragrance that belongs on the dresser table of your bedroom. This is shaped like a snow globe with a beautiful doll/fashion model in black evening gown. I wish it was also a music box! This is one of the most beautiful bottles and packagings ever.
The first spritz is a tangerine and ginger, spicy but sweet. I thought I smelled peaches and citrus as well. The opening is fruitier than Classique I guess because of that pronounced tangerine and fresh citrus. The fruitiness lingers for a while before it settles softly into powdered floral notes: orange blossom, lots of roses, ylang ylang, iris, jasmine, and tuberose. It’s a distinct tuberose but it’s not a heavy tuberose and not mature. It’s an edible sweet tuberose that has been sprinkled with cinnamon and ginger. There’s also plenty of rich creamy vanilla that feels just like a vanilla frosted cake.
The dry down seems to be warmer and muskier with amber. The perfume is absolutely perfect and such a delight for fans of Gaultier. If you wear Classique without any problems, this is going to be so easy for you to wear. I would have to say that this fragrance is warm and spicy as a gourmand fragrance, so it is best worn in winter time when it’s cold and you need a warm but gentle comfy scented scarf of perfume. This is a warm sugary vanilla with florals, powder, fruit and amber. I wear it to Christmas parties.
Beautiful and the best part is that although it has been discontinued it can still be purchased on ebay and other sites that sell it if you look for it. It’s worth the price they sell it for. I love this fragrance and can’t get enough.

I don’t think this perfume has been a best seller unfortunately.
It was discontinued after a few years if I remember well. it was maybe a delusion for those who were expecting a shocking seducing fragrance like the first creation of JP Gaultier was, and like his fashion is, and those who were looking for a magical and classic feminine perfume were scared by the name of the eccentric fashion designer and confused because of the bottle so many of them have never even tested it.
    And that was a mistake.
Because the scent is really nice elegant and refined.
An airy sparkling white floral. Just a fizzy sensual tuberose and a not so perturbing jasmine, yes, not the typical heavy fat tuberose for queens of seduction.
This perfume could be a Caron or a Lavin.
Maybe not so unique at the very first impression, but delicious and graceful with the right dose of sensuality, as said, and a drop of unconventional .
The packaging is gorgeous, great concept, and with that FRAGILE like a stamp. Genius. But too childish I presume. I repeat maybe the perfume, with such “dress”, should have been more fruity, candied fruit, or more aggressive sexy diva.
It was not what expected maybe. But was divine, for a white evening dress.

I adore this perfume which was a gift from a gentleman caller. This comes in the form of a snow globe so that when you finish using the fragrance you get a snow globe! The doll inside is an elegant lady in a black evening gown. This smells very similar to CLASSIQUE except it has a more pronounced fruity note of what I think is citrus or tangerine. It opens with sweet fruit and then I get ginger and cinnamon, very much like the ginger and cinnamon as well as vanilla in Classique. The flowers in this fragrance are beautiful. It’s a bouquet of orange blossom, ylang ylang, rose, jasmine and tuberose. This is mostly a floral not even a fruity floral as the scent of fruit dissipates quickly. If you love floral frags this will be a treat. It has a subtlety and softness yet roundness and full bodied figure so it does not feel like it’s for a little girl or a child. It is an adult perfume despite the snow globe. The dry down is vanilla and amber. Delicious and enchanting perfume.

Fragrance Review For Fragile By Jean Paul Gaultier
Top Notes: Tangerine Coriander Ginger Orange Blosom Bergamot
Middle Notes: Carnation Tuberose Iris Jasmine Ginger Ylang Ylang Rose
Base Notes: Amber Cinnamon Musk Vanilla Cedar
This was a gift from my friend in Paris Lysette who has worked in various perfume stores. This is one hell of a gift. Not only do you get a really beautiful fragrance but when you’re done with it you have a lovely snow globe with an opera singing diva inside it! My 4 year old niece has already seen it and told me she wants the snow globe. I will buy a 2nd one on ebay for 200 bucks just to give her the snow globe. This is not too far away from Gaultier’s beloved and popular Classique. The same notes of ginger and cinnamon, vanilla and flowers are here. There is also anise. It’s interesting how the same notes in Classique can smell so different. While there are bits and pieces of Classique this fragrance is lighter and less gourmand, more floral but at the same time not too heavy. The tuberose and orange blossom are what most stand out. There are two notes of rose and ginger and this gingery rose is what dominates the fragrance’s second stage. Sweet and delicious. The cinnamon and vanilla, to die for. I’m surprised this fragrance isn’t more popular. Let the word get around this is a fantastic fragrance. I want everyone reading this review to buy it. Even if you buy it blindly you’ll swoon. Smells amazing. I love it. Love it. Did I mention I love it? lol

I love this ! Tuberose and jasmine are the most prominent to me, but also something else I can’t put my finger on what is. Maybe ginger? This confuse me, as I usually HATE ginger in perfumes, in all shapes and forms. I really can’t stand it, so I am very confused and intrigued to know if it really is the ginger I can smell 🙂 I also get some kind of vanilla and amber, I think? And something rosy ? The drydown is a warm, classy, comforting and most of all feminine scent. Like a very rich, expensive body lotion.
Excellent lasting power and projection – last forever. A bit powerfull, but personally I like my fragrances this way; feminine and loud. But even though this is loud, it is not 80’s powerhouse killer-loud, such as some 80’s classics are 🙂
This, and D&G The One EDP, are some of my all time favorite fragrances; beautiful, warm, feminine classics.
And can we now please talk about the bottle ??? OMG. Hands down the best bottle in the history of perfume bottles! Cute, chic, whimsical, different, glamourous, glittery – I LOVE IT! It is so cute with the snow globe with golden bottom and gold flakes. And the tiny lady inside – adorable!
Actually, the only bad thing I have to say about this perfume is how much I hate that it is so difficult to get your hands on .

I just got a miniature of this perfume and I love it! Strong smell of tuberose and jasmine, it is lovely! Now I’m looking for a bigger size ( I don’t want to use this :/ ) Meanwhile I happy just smelling it. … I think this is the first JPG perfume that I like…

This is one of the most beautiful perfumes I own (160 + bottles). I am very happy with it with awesome longevity and sillage! I cannot stop smelling myself and happy to be able to actually smell it on me! JPG did a wondrous job, I fell in love with tuberose from this fragrance. I look forward to buying my backup bottle and the EDT version! This is one fragrance that should be brought back! Anniversary edition! Forget another flanker, go with FRAGILE!

Blind bought just for the mini snow globe. The irony is that it’s now one of my favourites and I’m going to have to find a second bottle so I don’t have to open the mini!
I’m not great with notes, but it’s softly sweet and rich, I get no crispness or harsh notes. It has a maturity that is exactly suited to the lady in the snow globe 🙂

A slightly spicy and juicy tuberose with sweet undertones from the amber. I mainly smell tuberose, tangerine, ginger and amber. It’s quite marvellous actually. A pity that it’s been discontinued.

wow! I blind bought this on Ebay in a mini size just to have the gorgeous snow globe bottle on my vanity and to my delight this smells really good! A bit light & soapy but sweet, floral, mature, sexy, delightful. The only issue i have with this is not wanting to use it because you want to keep the little woman submerged in the bottle lol
    scent: 9
    packaging: 10!

  25. :

well i have this… it smells like tuberose..some don’t like it because they find it strong.. i should say it comes off strong which to me is a positive feature of it and no it doesn’t smell bad at all… it can be if you bathe in it but used sparingly creates a very good wisp of florals… a little goes a long way… it also seems to come off a bit like the classic tabu but in a more refined and clean scent

  26. :

JPG Fragile is a complex slightly spicy warm floral. Excellent bouquet with dominant tuberose, just the right amount of ginger and honey-like musk. Soft and strong at the same time. Exceedingly feminine, rich & very luxurious. Incredible & long lasting with a lovely powder finish.

I just tried to open my sample of this and the LID BROKE! Omg, life is lol’ing in the corner over there… too funny!
*snicker, giggle* “Get it?! FRAGILE??” -Life
    Me: -.-
Anyway it’s a beautiful, rich, tuberose/ylang scent! The last few of either of those tones that I’ve tried were either too ‘green’ (marc jacobs original) or had that odd rubber kind of under tone (mauboussin, I’m lookin at you). Very happy to find the rich, lusciousness without the oddness.
I’m really rather taken with this! A bit worried to try to get my hands on a bottle though; isn’t it doomed to break on the way to me? 😉 No really though, it is the best (most pure smelling mix of) tuberose/ylang I think I’ve ever tried. I appear to be the only oddball that hates the bottle but, still tempted.
ETA: it’s still only been beaten for richest creamiest tuberose/ylang ever by Le Labo’s Lys 41, quite the worthy opponent.
Interesting accidental combo: fragile + portrait of a lady (later drydown) somehow smells very similar to the smoky, super indolic, creamy white floral that is Lutens’ Une Voix Noire! Fascinating.

I have a mini of this beauty. I can’t bring myself to wear it. I don’t ever want to be without it. I need a fb for sure. This is one beautiful tuberose. I can not fathom why they would discontinue it.

Gosh i miss this fragrance. Beautiful white floral, all about the Tuberose and Jasmine. Glammest bottle ever!! I wish i could go back a tell my teenager self (who owned this) what a gem they had and not to be so flippant with it’s usage. Alas i just didn’t appreciate her back then as much as i would now 🙁

This perfume is as sexy and full as the mannequin sitting in the glass dome of the EDP. I adore tuberose and if my “favourites” shelf could hold more, this would definitely make that list. Fragile? On a deeper level maybe, if one would consider the hourglass Marilyn Monroe fragile. Sillage and longevity both very powerful from this mindblowing scent. It’s sensual (an overused word but very apt in this case as with my favourite tuberose based scents), animalic (another overused but fitting description) white floral. Gorgeous perfume in a gorgeous bottle. I needed to add that I won’t have catergorized this as a purely floral scent, the muskiness and warmth from the amber notes makes me feel that this is more flor-oriental? Just my opinion 🙂

Fragile is one of those pumps floral 90s that’s being used to give the message right away, empesteiam environment where all have the opportunity to penetrate and dominate the nostrils strong, and “cause” a nuisance in sensitive aggressive. In its launch year found the powerful Pi de Givenchy, the caffeinated Rocks Man by rocks and Floral Allure EDP. Francis Kurkdjian is behind this power is nothing timid, and Fragile EDP Kurkdjian risked with Dior Homme Cologne, some Demeter’s, Elie Saab Le Parfum, Gaultier 2 (delicious) and so on … Well, Fragile EDP opens with a greenish tint, are bergamot dewy grass by a very small town, then immediately there is an amalgam of Tangerine with Anis that balance and elevate the fragrance; Ginger and Roses, Carnation and the kernels are very powerful Tuberous stars Fragile EDP (feel the same Tubers of Fracas), the fragrance opens impressively happy, and the last notes listed here closes, making it serious, but with power and robustness; your order is truly majestic, as a combination of cedar, Fluted creamy amber and musk he dismisses comfortably behaved, though present, current, existing and super modern. I think the beautiful complexity of the name assigned to the Fragile fragrance, since the fragile only has the girl inside the bell jar in a world immersed in the cerrado and powers of Fragile notes that reveals the shape of the bottle and the box have a meaning totally averse to the proposal, and that’s odd. Pump setting and silage above 9am to people totally opposed to the meaning of the name that holds the fragrance.
Credits to my faithful friend Barbarella!

Its official! I’m not the only only who has had this for years and not used it… as I won’t be able to play with the submerged lady in the glitter globe, anymore, if the perfume is gone… lol! (I just read the review by bikini babe;) Besides, on my skin, it smells sickly sweet – while I adore the bottle, the immaculate tiny lady doll?! (for want of a better description) in the great off shoulder black evening gown, I don’t love or even like the way this smells on me, however nice it looks on my shelf! It was a gift from a loved one and in a cuckoo sort of way, I’m glad that I’m not ‘in love’ with the fragrance, on its own. In all likelihood, its going to sit on my shelf, as good as new and beautify it, for the next few years and keep reminding me of the person who gave me the prettiest perfume, I own, to date!

I love the “snow globe” effect! I had this many years ago and i was fascinated by the bottle. The perfume had these gold grittery flakes in there that i would love to stir up… YaY! Ummm…yes i was young but i’d still have that reaction today HA HA HA…I’m such a “grown up” =p Now about the perfume itself…it’s a bit Va va voom, but that is to be expected. It’s not an over the top perfume but it sure stands out. Very elegant and a tad rebellious. Sweet but not too much, warm and flowery at the same time. Wish i had it again. The only problem is i probably wouldn’t use it as much because as the perfume is used up the lady is no longer submerged and u cant play with it anymore… when its around her feet its depressing =( u feel like the party is over and u have to face reality again. Its soooo pretty when its new! =)

This was my best friend’s signature when I first get to know both the scent and my friend. It still was until quite recently when it was sadly and stupidly discontinued. I bought it for her several times as a safe excellent birthday present (I love giving scents and I guess I was willing to smell it on her), but I had always avoided buying the edp for myself despite my love for it, because I felt as if I was somehow betraying my friend (don’t know if this story makes sense to someone else). Anyway, last time I went to buy it for her, I was told it was being discontinued, that was when I really decided I had to buy it, now or never situations help sometimes. I definitely wanted it in my collection, I can imagine missing this one very much. Still, I never wear it if I’m going to meet my dearest friend.
Fragile is wonderfully blended, having a beautiful unexpected changing character, I love it for being so unusual and showing different faces in such an interesting way. It sometimes seems soft and sweet, then suddenly can show a hard dark side.
It seems to become more affected than other scents by the user’s skin own smell. Though everyone seems to find it so feminine, I love it in men too.
This was Francis Kurkdjian’s entrance through the main door in the category of serious women’s perfumes after his success with Le male for men. I can’t think of a better way to enter the scene. Though some people stated the scent is too tightly anchored to the 90’s decade I think it is easy to perceive how much it anticipates other good works by this perfumista. If they refers to its strength I can only say I hope actual trend for light scents wont last forever.
For me Fragile is a must have for all tuberose lovers and for those who appreciate approches which help opening new paths for experimentation, research and discoveries in smelling experience. It isn’t about the ingredients it is about a new turn in the proportions and evolution.
I wish it hadn’t been discontinued, such a shame when so many bad-cheap-boring-stupid and almost equal perfumes are filling the shelves. A fate of our times, you are allowed to choose as long as you do it between lots of the same stuff. I feel just so lucky to live in a big city where I can find some shops fully focused on niche perfumes where I can go and give a sniff for the contemporary corresponding compositions by this author like subtle Amyris Femme or precious Enlevement au serail, which I hope to own one day to my pleasure extension.
The flaçon is a very nice nostalgic and full of humour design.

interesting, that Maurice Roucel’s Musc Ravageur was a finalised for Fragile but did’nt make the cut.

Tuberose, jasmine and unfortunately not at all a good match with my skin chemistry. On my mother on the other hand, it was a heavenly light floral scent with the crispness of lilly of the valley. The bottle was amazing though, the snowglobe top was whimsical and looked so good on the vanity!

Tuberose & jasmine. However, nothing new or distinctive here. Starts off soft, but picks up strength with time, old fashioned in a way. The package is very creative. Drydown is too perfumey, too syntheticy; musky floral. Other than white floral, not sure where half of these other ingredients fit, cause I don’t smell any of them. Stays on for awhile.

Original design, original scent. I had it 14 years ago and clearly remember the thick and rich smell and the tuberose. Elegant and mature.

I have a bottle of this I bought back in 1999 or 2000. I bought it simply for the bottle. I admit I haven’t smelled it in years.

old hollywood glamour; personified. starts off with a strong hairspray note, melding into ginger spiced tuberose; which is sharp not creamy. I get alot of woody notes out of this, although they aren’t listed. It smells golden & rich, a bit bitchy & voluptuous.

If ever a perfume deserved the name Fragile, by God it’s not this one!!! More like Punch Me Hard With Tuberoses. An ex bought this for me – I love/hate it – the bottle is one of my favourites..ever – so fairytale romantic, ah… but the scent, Lordy, what a sucker punch of tropical hot wetness. More syrup than juice, it’s humid, dense and sweeeet. Love it, mostly…

It’s the tuberose and orange that does it for me. Such a gorgeous scent and very sexy. It gets mixed reviews from people, but this one is a keeper.

I find this as a fresh take on a classic type of fragrance . I envision old-Hollywood glamour with this scent … an elegant and vivacious lady wearing this fragrance for a romantic night out. I was surprised that I really, really like it — I probably shouldn’t be surprised since to put it simply, it smells wonderful! I just thought that the bottle is so gorgeous and I won’t care if I like how it smells but I am also enjoying the juice inside.
It’s distinctly floral, I smell the different flowers instantly and some sweet notes in the background. It’s quite a beautiful blend and it smells so luxurious. After a few minutes of spraying it on my skin, the scent that lingered is sweet and very feminine.

I received my 1.6oz bottle today. I must say, I now understand the reviews. I have never experienced tuberose at this level..I wasn’t prepared for what I was about to smell. Yes.. the tuberose almost made me dizzy..that’s how strong. Then the orange blossom, the the jasmin. This jasmin is TM’s Alien’s older, mature sister. I smell the anise, coriander..and ginger. Plenty of pink pepper. These notes seem to be changing often as certain ones become dominant and then disappear into the background, setting the stage for the next star of the show. Mature, strong, spicy white floral.
