I love violet and always have. It might be my first love for any kind of smell that smells good. If I’d have known I’d like mint as much as I do, I never would have missed out on this.

I’ve noticed in reading the reviews. Many posters noted that this particular”well made” perfüme has a mysterious pattern of fading away, then … Surprise! It returns. I thought I would post something I found very interesting and unique about Violets.
Up until recently Violets are perhaps less common in bouquets than roses and carnations, but perhaps much more interesting from an aroma perspective. Their scent is primarily caused by the presence of compounds called Ionones, of which there are a range of forms with subtly different structures. On the face of it, this might not seem that interesting – but these Ionones have a peculiar interaction with our olfactory receptors.
We become accustomed to most persistent smells, as our brain registers them as constants and phases them out. This is why you can get used to the smell of a perfume, to the extent that you no longer notice it. This is where an Ionone in violets’ aroma differ. They essentially short-circuit our sense of smell, binding to the receptors and temporarily desensitising them. As this shut-down is only temporary, An Ionone can soon be detected again, and are registered as a new smell. Consequently, the scent of the violet appears to disappear – then reappear!

I am so happy that I purchased this wonderful perfume based on the notes and comments here. It is beautiful, light and sweet composition with a lot of violets. It smells just the same like the violet candy drops that I have had when I was a child. It is classy, inosent and playful. So far it is becoming a favorite for me! And the lasting power is very good, I sprayed it in the night and I can still smell it on the next day

I have been seeing this perfume around off and on for years. (As a 19 year old I wore the Ombré Rose). Haven’t been 19 for sometime. Lol.But this… My curiosity has been peaked. The combo of the notes. I was always hesitant to buy for the same reason I was intrigued. But, after reading the Excellent (and well written) views. Both positive and negative. This was a blind buy that turned out extremely well. While I love the scent of the violet flower itself I find many violet perfumes too sweet and powdery to wear. I was intrigued by the pairing of mint with violet in this, and it got a fair number of good reviews – so that and the incredibly low price led to a buy. It starts very green and fresh, minty with a dab of cool melon and violet leaf. The heart is more floral, and turns a little powdery with violet and lily being the most discernible to my nose. The drydown is spicy/woody, I don’t get any coconut or strawberry which is fine for me. I find it to be a lovely violet gem of a fragrance, and one I will use often. Longevity is excellent on me, and sillage is on the moderate side. The bottle is lovely too!

What an absolute delight! Powdery violets mixed with the freshness of mint — a truly feminine mint scent, herbal without being the least masculine. Not overly flowery or perfumey either — it has a very fresh, natural quality, like being outside gardening. Perfect for the office or daytime formal events. If you love violet, and you love mint, then this is absolutely the perfume for you. If you do not care for violet or mint you will want to give this scent wide berth. I adore violet and mint, and I absolutely love this perfume. It makes me very happy to smell it. The notes I can smell specifically are violet and mint. Looking at the more expansive list of notes, I can see how things like honeydew, sandalwood, and coconut would be used to even out the edges of the scent, but really, this is all about violet and mint. They are well-presented, not at all loud and screeching. Rather, they’re soft and elegant. This perfume will not be to everyone’s taste, but for the violet-mint crowd, it’s a must.

It is a miserable, cold and gloomy day here. Sleet now to change to snow this afternoon. I am SO over winter! Today I decided to defy Mother Nature and wear a glorious spring scent to break my winter doldrums. I chose this lovely scent and I am so happy I did! I have been transported to a magical, warm, wooded place where the violets bloom with abandon! As I walk through this glorious forest, I brush up against a mint plant and the scent mingles with the heady violets perfectly! I don’t detect any of the white flowers on my skin. Just the purest scent of soft woods and violets with a whisper of mint that fades as the perfume dries. I loved the initial blast of the violets and enjoy immensely the glorious dry down. It is truly a wonderful spring scent for those who love violets with a bit of a twist. On me the sillage and the longevity are both moderate. Sometimes, you CAN fool Mother Nature..at least in your imagination!

This bottle is utterly gorgeous, a must-have for it alone. Seriously, I must have this perfume, as I can already envision the violette-menthe combination – and it’s blowing my mind! (I should add my essential oil of Rosemary to my hair while wearing this, when I order a bottle someday, hopefully very soon!).

I find this violet beautiful and very wearable ! It is called violette – menthe but I don’t find the mint strong as for 50/50 But maybe its because menthe stays in the top. The flowers makes it richer and the moss and orris root makes the drydown a nice creamy woody one. The strawberry and coconut listed are interesting to be mixed in this frag, but is very hard to notice at all…maybe the coconut is blended together with the woods…
As in the violet listed frags, Naughty Alice and Borsari Violetta di Parma this also gets me a black liquorice note, that’s not listed, but I still like it – whatever it is…
Liquorice or heliotrope ? I like it a lot and will enjoy wearing it!
So if you just like me love violets – this is a nice one to own and wear if you would come across it

Very violet, at first it was too strong almost too sweet violet and mellows into just soft woodsy violet and lily to me. Not bad at all but yes you must have to like purple flowers like Printeza7 stated on her review.

After so much thought I end up with this. This is beautiful and tricky. It has different effects on skin and apparels. Very delicate on skin and long lasting on apparels. Must try this !!

Another blind purchase, and I couldn’t be more pleased. I’ve been looking for something to wear in this sweltering heat that has been our summer so far. This is violet in it’s purest state, made even fresher with cooling mint. Don’t detect any coconut, whatsoever. This is very well done and effortless to wear. For an EDT, it has great longevity on me, about 6 hrs.

Just got this today. I was a little concerned because it was very inexpensive on Amazon – I thought maybe it would smell cheap or chemically but I was pleasantly surprised. It sprays on with a heavenly blast of pure violet, which I adore, but that quickly fades and on me it becomes much more earthy, not floral at all. I am not sophisticated when it comes to evaluating individual notes in a fragrance but on me it was very green, earthy. Now after a full day it is soft, once again, I can faintly smell the violet and definitely a soft musk. It is lovely – I loved it instantly. Oddly enough, in the early hours it reminded me of Moschino Cheap and Chic, which I couldn’t love and returned. This is much more interesting and the opening notes are sheer joy. I’m not sure I ever detected the mint but I think I am such a mint person I do not notice it. I picked my boyfriend up from the airport today after two weeks and he said “you smell good.” Score! It’s a winner! I love it.
Update: Interestingly, after applying in the morning and wearing all day yesterday I could no longer detect the fragrance but imagine my surprise when I sank into a steamy bath very late last night, but with my wrists out, and lo and behold the soft, soothing scent of pure violet was wafting from my skin just as if I had just sprayed it. The steam alone released the fragrance on my wrist so now I suspect that even when I can no longer detect it others may, in fact, still be enchanted by it on me. I hope so. This is a delightful fragrance. To my nose, I lose the true violet very soon after spraying it but it is actually still there as became obvious to me last night. I have yet to smell the mint but I drink lots of mint tea and use the herb fresh often.

I just got a coffret of this with the body lotion today…I’m so excited! Two of some of my favorite things are in this…violets and mint. I must say I am in love…when I wear this I am transported to the 1920’s, a vanity with powders in gorgeous art deco powder jars and perfumes, and clara bow sitting there with her flapper hair. It’s dusty violets…and touch of mint in the beginning. Reminds me of the old face powder my Grandmother used to wear.

Primary boss-Violets, then mint and some spice. Mint adds to the crispness and freshness and allows violets to shine 100%. It is semi bitter-sweet, dry violet type a scent. Black currant has to do with bitter zesty-ness here. Leafy green touch with white flowers in the background. Floral, powdery with hints of musk.
Likable, wearable, behaves well anywhere…to sum it up: violets and spring in a bottle:)

The violet and mint are knit very closely together. I detect a little mint as I do in Nina Ricci’s “Les Belles- Libery Fizz” and the violet is somewhere in the background. It is overall very powdery and turns sweeter in the end. I do like it in some way. It took me some time to get into it (I got a sample vial from “Les Scenteurs” because I couldn’t find it in Sweden)and it worked better on me with time. First it was only sour blackcurrant – maybe the sourness that I detected that first try has vanished now.
I’m still in search for the perfect violet perfume, though…

this scent is indeed all abpout violet and mint. First it opens up as a strong violet scent, very true, then it becomes minty but still smells violet and gardeina as well. Very good lasting power and good sillage. Not my type of fragrance sadly, this is too bipolar for my taste, i don´t see a unity in the notes, too much dissonance.

Violette-Menthe is a precious, refined, realistic violet with a translucent chorus of dewy flowers and sunny fruit.
The ingenious touch of mint and melon, rather than stand out, adds a fresh, fruity background glow to the whole composition, rendering it perfect for warmer weather.
Its beauty and brilliance can be both marvelous and somehow easy to miss, as this perfume is a soft, casual, rather understated composition. But the way it features the violet is quite masterful and unique when observed carefully.
It took me two samples to fall in love with it, but I’m finally hooked.
Lasting power and projection are both very good.

There is no artifice or complexity here. The beauty is clean and straightforward, like a single scene captured from nature with nothing added. There is no plastic or dextrose thrown in to mar the natural beauty of the violets in this refreshing eau de toilette with quite good longevity—relative to some of the natural violet perfumes which I’ve tried—and pretty big sillage. VIOLETTE-MENTHE is a must-have for all lovers of violet perfumes! This is beautiful! No detectable mint on my skin, just all violets, pale roses & peony. I’d describe it as a perfect blend of My Queen and Ellen Tracy’s Peony Rose.
Soft and sweet (but not overly sweet) and very, very appealing. I’m reminded of violet candies and the smell of my great aunty’s bosom when she’d give me a hug. Pretty, light pink roses add to it being a bit powdery but green notes cut the sweetness. No oakmoss is listed among the ingredients on the box and I don’t get even the slightest impression of oak moss. Not much development but that’s OK by me as what I smell first is what I enjoy most. Excellent longevity on skin, hair and clothing and sillage that makes people smile.
Violets always seem to evoke pleasant memories. This one is a “must have” & a safe blind buy for all lovers of violets. Mint lovers should buy Mentafolia and layer My Queen over it if that’s the combination you’re going for (that combination worked quite well when I tried it).

First of all I’d like to thank Michali for giving me the opportunity to try and own this beautiful fragrance.
To be honest, when I first tested Fleurs d’Ombre Violette – Menthe on my skin, I wasn’t overly impressed. The mint was very strong, but not in a pleasant sense. I thought of toothpaste and gallons of talcum powder creating havoc on my delicate skin.
I didn’t give up, so after a few days I tried again. Oh my god, what a difference the second wearing made in forming a completely different opinion concerning Fleurs d’Ombre Violette – Menthe. This fragrance was a beautiful, unique and feminine blend of powdery violets, refreshing mint, sweet melon and soft musk.
I thought that nothing could surpass my adoration for Thierry Mugler’s Violette Angel, however it may have just met its match. They are both powdery violet scents, however the mint adds something quite beautiful to an already pretty blend.
I have worn this fragrance during both Summer and Autumn, and have been surprised by the amount of compliments I’ve received, especially from men. I found it quite innocent, yet men seem to find it rather seductive and captivating.
Who would have thought that violet and mint could go so well together? Whoever constructed this fragrance is a genius. The lasting power is fantastic, really surprising for an EDT. I recommend this fragrance to anyone that loves violets, or for that matter, any floral lovers in general that enjoy fragrances with a bit of a twist.

In the top I smell the melon and minth very good. It gives the scent its freshness. Then the violet is there I cant detect any white flowers. On my skin it dry’s down to a powdey minty violet. I cant help it to smell a bit similarity with Galliano. Maybe coz of that woody violet.
I will try it again in warmer weather. Coz im not sure right now if this is a scent for me

I won a generous decant from lovely member Michali. I could not wait to try it. I love it! The mint opening is lovely… Then I get violets and this is not my favorite part. The drydown is divine: powdered woodiness.. On my skin it lasted 12+ hours. I would like to mention that the notes listed on Jean-Charles Brousseau’s site are:

Love this perfume. It is blended to perfection. Not to sweet or powdery, just refreshing, classy and very french. It lasts a lot longer when the body lotion is applied. If you like violets, then I am sure you will love this perfume, it is just perfection in a beautiful bottle. Love it.

Perfect summer refreshment. I love this alot. Takes a while for the alcohol to evaporate but when it does it becomes a very cooling, soothing and nostalgic scent.

Got this today on recommendation of some people here–and it is lovely!! Soft, not too strong or sweet on me. I wasn’t sure about the mint part, but it is so gentle, blending beautifully with the violet, almost like a woodland garden. The only downside is it doesn’t last, but for summer it is perfect–if I put it on every two hours.

Unexpectedly came across this today while shopping and fell upon it with glee, spraying some on my arm to test.
I am so attracted by anything that is meant to smell of violets but sadly I was very disppointed by Violette-Menthe.
The violet is there instantly and strongly, as is the mint and they blend surprisingly well together.
However, it was not long until my nose detected an ‘edge’ to this fragrance.
I’ve looked at the notes of the perfume and I have no idea what it could be but this edge appeared to my mind as ‘blue but spicy’ – it was almost like a little tinge of Old Spice aftershave and I simply couldn’t bear it.
The fragrance for me was a scrubber. Have washed my arm and can still smell it there. Ick.
However, this may just be down to my own skin chemistry, it may be lovely on someone else….

MARIE ANTOINETTE by Kirsten Dunst captured in a bottle! This is such a stunning violet perfume! I blind-bought it after reading a lovely review on this @ the blogg ‘scentedsalamander’. If you are interested in this one, check that review, it describes it very well. As a lover of violet-perfumes I so much love this addition to my collection. It’s PERFECT! It’s composed so very well, balanced and beautiful. This is smells like a expencive powdery Parma violet. As it starts of with greens, then the scent turns to violet pastilles covered in sugar-dust. A trip to early 1920’s pastry Boutique in spring Paris. Romantic French seduction. The oak basenotes completes this in a classy, refined, beautiful way. It makes the violet not too candy-sweet, but real and classy and just that perfect amount of powdery sweetness. This perfumes is a modern classic. A violet version of the famous Ombre rose perfume. I highly recommend this to everyone. It’s perfection, in both juice and the LOVELY ombre-bottle. I just can’t describe it as lovely as the scent really is. Try it!
