Description
First Instinct Blue from Abercrombie & Fitch is announced as unexpected, bold and truly masculine. It is Abercrombie’s fragrant interpretation of the moment of exhilaration when you feel the sky’s the limit. First Instinct Blue is a fresh, one-of-a-kind Fougere scent for the adventurous man who lives by his First Instinct.
Its aromatic-fougere composition opens up with the freshness of frozen apple, develops with crisp lavender, but then leaves a deeper trail of addictive amber. The creation is signed by Yves Cassar from IFF. He reportedly wanted to create a fragrance that would combine the core values of the brand with the blue color, resulting in a combination of exhilarating fresh notes enhanced with spicy notes, and balanced by the intense power of amber.
It is available as a 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.
First Instinct Blue was launched in 2018.

Similar to the original first instinct, but more sytnhtetic and the melon is replaced by apple.
Pass for me.

The opening is quite harsh with a lot of ambroxan then it calms down. Dominant notes are green apple, rosemary, ambroxan, bergamot. Low-moderate performance overall.

I blind bought this. 100ml for £28 in the UK. I own the original and enjoy wearing it as a casual summer scent. I decided to take a chance on this.
It arrived today so these are my first impression. On first spray, I picked up a somewhat 90’s masculine spicy cologne vibe. It has that scent profile. Once settled, a creamy sandalwood/cardamom concoction that is almost milky. It retains a somewhat tropical, almost coconut vibe. I dont necessarily pick up the original in this.
I actually really enjoy it. The combo of amber, sandlewood, cardamom is creamy, spicy and also has a slight minty tinge.
Upon spraying, the scent smells wondeful for 5 minutes. Then its gone. Ive sprayed about 10 sprays on my shirt, numerous on my skin and for the life of me I honestly cant smell it anymore. Not even close up on my clothes.
So the good, smells great, summery, fresh, masculine and attractive. The bad, zero performance after 5-10 minutes.
A shame and I guess that’s what I get for blind buying.
Edit:
Ok, I may of exaggerated on the lifespan of the fragrance. You get good projection for 10-20 minutes and then sits very close to the skin for about 2-3 hours before disappearing. I still think its a solid, 90s style masculine blue freshie. Its just a shame its as weak as it is. Smells great in warm air whilst its projecting.

If you know Versace Dylan Blue!? It is same opening plus cardamom and weaker performance! All finished at 3/4 hours but Dylan blue stays 12/14 hours on my skin and forever on shirt

At first spray I thought “not this again…” thinking that it resembled all other scents released in 2018… the sauvage effect. Or is it the invictus effect? Anyway – within 5 minutes I was digging it. I absolutely get the original out of this – it’s more of a buttoned up version of the original – dare I say…more adult-ish? Don’t get me wrong – this isn’t encre noir – but it’s not squidward juice either. For all the people who loved the first one – there’s simply no reason not to love this one. In fact – I strongly prefer this over the original. The melon note seems to be gone or lessened.I think Abercrombie does a nice job with their fragrances and this is no exception.

What about First Instinct Extreme / Eau de Parfum?

Sorry but nothing groundbreaking. Soft skin scent. It doesn’t similiar to the original first instinct – which is also a scent for young people (it doesnt make any trouble BTW). Safe, short lasting, nothing serious, but not bad if you start with perfumes. I bought it in Hungary 2 months ago maybe, already sold it. Very solid release, but at last it is not a sauvage ambroxane OR invictus copy. 4/10
