Description

Lady Gaga presents her first fragrance in collaboration with her own The Haus Laboratories Paris and fragrance company Coty. The perfume, called Fame, comes out on the market in Sept 2012.

Fame is composed in an unusual way; the fragrance does not respect the pyramidal structure of the composition, but uses so-called “push-pull technology” by which the ingredients are mixed to highlight different aspects of each fragrant note at the same time, without any hierarchy.

The fragrance is built on three main accords: dark accord, sensual accord and light accord. The dark accord includes poisonous flower Belladonna and incense, which evolve into the sensual and opulent wave of honey drops, saffron and apricot. A floral veil of Sambac jasmine and tiger orchid embody light and beauty.

The liquid of the perfume is also innovative—it is colored in black but becomes invisible when it touches the skin. Just like the fame itself: “It’s black like the soul of fame, but invisible once airborne.”

The bottle is designed in collaboration with Nick Knight, and advertising campaign is shot by Steven Klein. The fragrance is available as Eau de Parfum.

I’m super late to this perfume’s party, but I just got my first bottle of Fame. And I realized that this smells like my 2nd year of university in 2012/2013, obviously not because I used to wear it (because I didn’t), it’s just that everyone wore it back then. Woah, so many flashbacks and memories running through my mind right now…
As for the smell (as objective, as I can be right now for sentimental reasons), it’s really nice, but not as dark and mysterious as one could expect judging from the bottle. It’s just a light, floral smell that is suitable for everyday wear.

This smells no different than all other celebrity fragrances out there. Very generic a bit woodsy that also dissapears after 20 mins. Nothing dark or bad like some others described it.

There was a huge campaign behind this when it first came out and it seems odd now that it’s barely remembered and getting hard to find. Even Lady Gaga herself never mentions it. I tried it when it debuted and like many I was disappointed about how safe it was, considering that Lady Gaga made all sorts of crazy statements about how it would smell and a big deal was made of the colour.
I came across this very cheaply and decided to add it to my collection as I thought the bottle was rather spectacular. But the juice really is standard stuff. Just a fruit/grape floral with a bit of musk thrown in and really poor longevity – I’m talking under an hour. Overall, just really forgettable, which I suppose is the one of the reasons it’s basically been forgotten.

I really want to say I like it. I’m a fan of Lady Gaga, the concept behind this perfume is intriguing, and the bottle is gorgeous. But the truth is that this starts off heavy and sweet like a gourmand, then disappears from my skin within 30 minutes. It does last on my shirt, but there’s no sillage or projection. On my shirt, I can smell more of the honey and fruit notes after about two hours. I finally smelled the grape soda scent the morning after applying it. So, it does have good longevity on clothing.
The push-pull aspect of this fragrance means that one moment you’re smelling incense, one minute you’re smelling the overwhelmingly rich gourmand accord, and another you’re smelling dark but sharp and sweet fruits.

My fave Lady gaga perfume! I love her so much she is an amazing woman. I wore this fragrance when I watched Joanne world tour at the forum last year! I smelled bomb! I had so much fun wearing it while watching her sing and dance and the scent made me feel so lively, energetic, happy and super sexy!
Love it love it love it!
Thank you Lady Gaga for making this one! I just hope she makes a flanker of this!
    10/10
    Great Scent!

Definitely a unisex vibe to it . You can really feel the push-pull technology used in it.
Starts off very fruity and a bit sweet. But when it settles down it turns darker and heavier . A very sophisticated and sexy scent to wear during the night .
The bottle design is amazing , especially the 100 ml one as the cap is metal and it gives the idea of a very expensive scent.

To put it simply, its a very nice wearable feminine scent. The honey note is the most prominent, dries down to white floral with a hint of incense, i smell this on a lot of people walking by, GaGa knew what she was doing with this fragrance. Sillage is light, Longevity is moderate

My 87-year-old grandmother was wearing this perfume, and it really caught my attention. Smells elegant, ageless. I want to wear it too. Don’t know how long lasting it is, but I can say it is a lovely scent.

i used to wear this all the time when i was younger and people always told me i smelled like an energy drink. smells like a fizzy grape honey mixture.

The visuals for this fragrance-the bottle, the advert film-are so amazing. It’s so cool looking and perfectly tells Gaga’s story of how fame smells sweet but is dark. The scent itself is classy. May not be anything special, but that’s the point. Gaga herself claimed “I have an interesting mind. I wanna smell like a slut, to be honest.”

I don’t like the perfume at all, but I really enjoy the shower gel. It seems to stand for the idea that the perfume itself couldn’t say. Strange, isn’t it?

The bottle, the colour, the artist- all of these things fooled me into thinking that this would be a powerhouse of a scent. It’s not. In fact it’s tame as anything. Sweet lightly musky candy with terrible performance besides. Ah well, you get what you pay for and this stuff is incredibly cheap!

Fame by lady gaga looks intresting and costs cheap so I buy it.first time I smelled it I can’t find notes but now I can find honey and apricot and orchid.ofcourse they are not clear.I can’t find balsamic notes and incense.just sweet flowers and strong and it doesn’t change.longevity and sillage is not good, not bad.so so.it remind me tom ford velvet orchid but velvet otchid is comolex and deep and strong.
I like Fame but I don’t love it.it’s not my signature perfume.for it’s cheap price it’s good and feminine.when I use it nobody hate it so I use it a lot of times for autumn .just a little is left for this year but I don’t want to buy it again

For years, I searched for the perfect perfume. I was and continue to be unimpressed with the majority of perfumes out there- very generic, too sweet or just odd-smelling and unwearable.
I am a huge fan of vanilla candles, honey, nutty and musky scents, however, most perfumes kick the floral component to the top, so the sweetness is quite sickening (Britney Spears- Midnight Fantasy for example).
I am a huge fan of Lady Gaga and when the fragrance launched I was a middle-schooler and didn’t have the money to buy this perfume, but the memory of it stuck with me.
Years later, a good friend of mine reintroduced me to this scent by wearing it on herself and it smelled incredibly intoxicating and sexy and I was immediately hooked.
The minus of this scent is that it fades somewhat quickly and u should give it 3-4 sprays if you want the scent to radiate from you.
I consider the longevity to be secondary, as it is my favorite scent in the whole world, and would recommend it to everyone who wants to smell like a Succubus.
PS. The bottle design and the black liquid makes it a great statement piece on my shelf. It looks very chic, yet edgy. Thank god for Lady Gaga and her many talents.

There is something about Fame that takes me back to my chilhood. The simple things, running on the forest near my mothers home, the leafs, the wildflowers, the dead summer fruits on the floor, the birds, tha t sweetness that floats around in the summer breeze. Fame almost makes me tearfull, its such a nostalgic scent for me and so far from everything I tought it would be. Such a beautiful surprise!

  17. :

I have this perfume, but for me isn´t so much special and interesting. I think, Fame is little bit boring scent.

  18. :

    5 out of 5

I was thoroughly disappointed, fame smells like a grape bubble bath for toddlers. I detected no incense, no belladonna. I guess the cheap-smelling candy sweetness can be attributed to the supposed honey and the musty, rotten fruit notes to the apricot. I guess it could be likened to a nasty version of Dior poision as the overwhelming puple fruit (plum/grape) notes are the only notes i could detect. This perfume was not worthy of the hype that preceded it nor the artistry of it’s namesake.

It’s just what I expected from Lady Gaga–something totally unexpected. Grape soda, smoke and Play-doh with something sublimely beautiful underneath. This is the only perfume I’ve had that makes me want to giggle each time I sniff it. It lights up the laughter areas in my brain; I didn’t know perfume could do that. It’s strange but familiar, nostalgic but in a thoroughly modern way. It’s challenging but comforting, fascinating, thought-provoking and artistic, like the lady herself.
EDIT: The more I wear it, the more I like it. Thank you, Lady Gaga. You are a blessing and an artist

I really like this at first. Sweet honey and apricots. A while after it settles I get a strange kitty litter vibe. I think it comes from the incense and belladonna overpowering the honey and competing with the apricot note. Nice but lingers a little too long and turns a little funky.

  23. :

    3 out of 5

At the first spray, I get the incense which is beautifully smoky, then fades into apricot sweetness and the drydown of the floral component. This is my nose so it will be different. I like its sweetness

  24. :

Smokey & sweet at the same time. Very nice scent. Moderate longevity & sillage. This is a very nice, interesting perfume.

Still my favorite fragrances to this day! The amount of money I’ve spent on bottle after bottle has not been wasted! I wear this every winter and I always get so many compliments on it. Lady Gaga made one of the best fragrances to date imo and I wish she’d make more!
On a side note: when I spray it it instantly get a blast of honey and grapey accords which smells sweet and sour and the same time but then transforms into this dark transcendent soft-musky-sweet base that I just can’t resist!! The pairing of Tiger Orchid, Incense and Saffron is just perfect!!

  26. :

The base is honeyed apricots, Topped with smoky florals.
    Like a luxurious body lotion.
    Scent wise, it’s aboslubtly unique.
Longevity is great, could smell myself all day,
But sillage wise is kinda weak imo.

  27. :

Cool bottle but I only get the tiniest hint of honey for the shortest amount of time, then that disappears and the dry down just has a strange “smokey” and dirty, cheap smell that lingers forever and is offensive to my nose.

I bought it when I was at college just for the black color. To be honest, I don’t like the smell. It is way too sweet and doesn’t show any complexity at all. Now it’s at my office in an emergency kit and I only use it when I forget to wear the perfume in a rush.

  33. :

    5 out of 5

I didn’t like this the first couple tries, but it grew on me.
The opening is very fruity and very sweet–more like grape than orchid and apricot, slightly similar to Vickie Tiel’s Bonaparte (though hers is preferable). It’s rather nice once I wrapped my nose around it. Fame also has decent sillage and staying power.
I would purchase a FB if I found one at quite a low price. It’s a sad fact that I end up wearing ok perfumes much more frequently than stunning ones due to the price constriction. This habit of ours!

  34. :

    4 out of 5

The initial scent is quite sweet, but the dry down mellows it out and it becomes more of a smoky floral. The sillage is not great and neither is the longevity.
If i’m honest, when I’m not wearing this perfume I totally forget what it smells like. I think I spent less than 10 bucks on my bottle, so it’s something I wear on lazy days when I don’t really want to waste my good juice. Overall, it’s nice enough but not very memorable.

I got this in highschool from a staff member who got it as gratis. It smells like menstrual blood and welches grape juice. The metallic iron feels like it could sting your throat, it feels like I bit my tongue. I don’t usually speak negatively of scents, even if it’s not what I personally enjoy but it reminds me of the cup holder you fill with spare change in your car. I was somehow at the time incredibly interested in it and wore it despite feeling the way that I do now. Imagine filling your mouth with pennies and grape gummies. I think it was supposed to also smell like seminal fluid? I think that I can contest to that. I’m not sure why other than shock and awe she would aim for bodily fluid but it doesn’t provoke anything detail or sexual, at least in a positive way. Now when I find it around my house somewhere and check if I was delusional I’m always right and it always brings me to a special victim’s unity crime scene. That is, of all the officers we’re drinking juice boxes. It seems violent, visceral, angry, and disjointed. Like a mutant made in a lab bleeding out, furious that it had made it to see the sun.

A complicated genius of a scent. Very unique and different. In the end the notes work. It’s sensual, yet playful all in one. The dry down is my favorite. The sillage is ok, and the longevity is maybe fair to moderate. It is captivating and honestly there is nothing else like it. I’ve smelled many of perfumes, and this one is all by its self with its unique style. Very nice. Xo

Dark and mysterious original scent. Not offensive or overpowering good for day or night. Winter or summer. I will say it smells better when it’s been sprayed out of the bottle. Very attractive clever bottle.

First off I’m glad that this didn’t turn out to be just another fruity floral celebrity scent, in fact I would label it as benign and edgy all at the same time. I expected this to smell weird, probably a bit off putting, maybe even gross but it is quite pleasant. The apricot and honey make it something I would associate with my mom, but there is a slight twinge of oddness to it. Something sour and acidic like maybe that grape accord or maybe the belladonna. I don’t know cause I’ve never smelled belladonna before. You can also get a feel for the incense note but it is not nearly as strong as, the incense in La nuit tresor.

  39. :

i only smelled it very fast then turned to Another perfume because what i smelled at first spritz was horrible! just NO

  40. :

    3 out of 5

There’s definitely a touch of the “grape soda” type accord, but it’s not more than a little sweet and overall it comes across as “mature,” as far as these kinds of scents go. I also get a carnation-like quality (perhaps with a hint of lily of the valley) mixing with the grape soda thing. I actually like this, but don’t get much out of it beyond what I said above. It might be quite good for layering, and I think men can wear this as a formal scent if the weather isn’t too hot or too cold.
UPDATE: Longevity was good but projection seems weak (two sprays to the chest). After several hours I think I got the balmy/resinous base that is what they are calling “incense.” I like it, but I’m going to have to use at least 5 sprays next time to see if I can get it to where it would be worth wearing.

It smells like how you’d imagine Lady Gaga would smell like. But from all the hype she put on it being different and innovating I don’t quite see it, but its a lovelt scent none-the less. To sum it up in two words it can be described as “dark floral”, it’s a light floral scent with a dark vibe to it, and the bottle is BEAUTIFUL.

I understand everyone’s frustration with this scent because of its marketing and advertisements. This was touted to be an off the wall, unique, and unforgiving fragrance.
Unfortunately, this fragrance is none of those things. But with that being said, I really adore this perfume. It’s quite fruity and juicy smelling, but not in a young and girly way. To me, the honey is present but it’s not an overwhelming amount of honey. Honestly, I don’t really like honey in scents, it just always smells off to me. Fortunately, this application is pretty demure. I think I get a hint of a floral in here but it’s not really all that pronounced, just very soft. As for the incense, well… that’s not really present i’m afraid. But, I find this fragrance worn best in mild weather, not too cold, not too hot.
Also, if you’re into mixing scents, I love to mix this with Victoria’s Secret Love Spell. If you’re into both Lady Gaga Fame, and Love Spell, I would recommend layering them.

  46. :

    4 out of 5

Fame was a blind buy out of sheer curiosity. I had no idea what this was going to smell like but it spiked my interest, based solely on the notes and on the marketing. I expected something powerful, something dark yet alluring. I was heavily disappointed with Fame upon first wear, because this perfume is none of those things. This is not a rebellious woman who wears shocking outfits and presents her ideas in vulgar language to the world. This is not the lady every eye is cast upon, whether from horror, disgust or admiration. Rather Fame is the lady in the skirt and blazer, the one who never shows too much skin, the one in black rimmed slightly geeky but cute glasses with clipboard in hand, who makes sure the show runs smoothly. Polite, sweet, well mannered and nice.
However it is not an unpleasant scent, I actually find this very pleasant and easy to wear. Which is very ironic, given the creator and the entire presentation of the perfume. It is very sweet at first. Then juicy tart apricots balances the sweetness out. I find it interesting that the honey is listed as such a predominant note because on my skin I barely get any honey. I get a rich sweetness but not honey per se. The incense is absent which is disappointing, I would have loved for some smoky dark incense.
I get no florals and nothing dark in Fame. It might just be my skin chemistry but this is not at all what I expected. In all honesty this is another pleasant, safe celebrity scent. Albeit better done than the majority of celeb scents out there, I must give Fame that much. I reach for this when I want a sweet crowd pleasing scent, one that is nice to wear but does not demand my olfactory attention through the day.

  47. :

This perfume is nearly impossible for everyone to agree upon, because it seems to be different for everyone, and even different every time you use it!
I do get the honey which is very nice, as well as an apricot/plum for sure which is well blended, as well as incense I could only describe as Nag Champa- a very nice incense that when burned does not smell like burning wood.
Literally my only complaint with it is that it is Fleeting. It is gone very quickly, undetectable after one to two hours tops. I do not think it is body chemistry, I think it lacks a note with any staying power in the way it was designed!
Because it is so multidimensional, I feel this perfume could have won awards. But it is gone in a flash and that alone is the buzz killer.
    God Bless!

  48. :

So I didn’t have high hopes for this perfume because it’s a cheap celebrity fragrance. I had purchased it because I am obsessed with the bottle. An egg shaped glass bottle with black liquid and gold claw clasp lid? It’s amazing lol. Now onto to the scent. It literally smells like grape soda as a perfume. I don’t mind it because I like grape soda, not sure if I want to smell like someone dumped their grape soda on me though. Overall I’m happy with the purchase.

  49. :

    4 out of 5

Based on the notes, I thought this would be right up my alley (honey, apricot AND incense?), plus that dark juice and the very cool bottle, how could I go wrong? Well, wrong I went. This ended up being very cloying and heavy on the honey and moreso the apricot. I never really got around to appreciating the incense, because the apricot just kept getting in the way! While I love honey scents (Bijan original is one of my jams!) this was too heavy on the apricot and just kind of SAT THERE on my skin. It didn’t warm and definitely was a bit off-putting. I almost couldn’t stand myself. That didn’t keep me from using up the bottle though. Oh, and be wary of the top. Those “claws” on it can legit be used as a weapon if necessary. So watch yourself (and your hand) when putting the cap back on!

  50. :

    5 out of 5

There is an overall musk in this perfume, but this musk comes off differently every time I apply the fragrance. One day I noticed that it smelled like iris.
The honey note is also evident through all stages of the scent and at times will even take on that grainy quality that a real honey would. It doesn’t smell like the smell of honey, it feels like the taste of honey, which is strange for me.
Overall I believe that a large majority of perfume fanatics will ultimately be dissapointed with this perfume not only because of Lady Gaga’s confusing nature, but also it fail to grasp the subtle redeeming qualities of this fragrance.

I remember when people were raving about this scent. When I saw it at the depart store were my mom used to work I tried it and I was like this is a wonderful scent. In one of her interviews she said she did not even want to create a perfume! In short, she was forced. But I am still looking forward for a new perfume by her that reflects her true self, her talent and beauty…with class and sophistication. Not all about money, fame and agendas. Oh God I love her so much! Her SB halftime performance is beyond amazing! Hope she makes a new perfume and name it Joanne.

I’d first tested FAME out of curiosity. Initially, I thought it smelled like grape soda and wasn’t interested, but some 15 minutes later, the fragrance changed to a light, smokey-honey scent with some floral notes in the background. I don’t know about any “special” technology here and the fragrance isn’t stellar, but it’s pleasant and amusing. A couple of months later, I purchased a bottle on a whim when I happened upon a good sale.
When I wear this, I still get that whiff of grape soda for the first few minutes, but once the smokey-honey-floral notes emerge they stay around for the duration. For me, FAME is a very casual winter scent and sillage is soft, so many sprays can be used. As with many fragrances, I find that longevity is increased by first applying a little unscented moisturizer.
The bottle design is interesting, but it looks better in the photo than in reality as the cap is made of metalicized plastic. The edges are thin and the points are a bit on the sharp side, so it’s possible to poke yourself in the finger if you’re capping the bottle without paying attention. Also, it’s the juice that’s black and the bottle itself is made of colorless glass, so when the liquid level falls with use, the whole thing looks less dramatic. While it is still wet, the black juice can stain light-colored clothing. (I tested it on a scrap of white cotton fabric and it left a permanent, pale gray blotch.) Once it dries, this isn’t a problem. Also, the color doesn’t show on skin.

Who would have thought that Lady Gaga would sign off on pretty much the most stereotypical smelling celeb scent I own? Irony aside, I do quite like it. It’s sweet and pleasant, actually a bit fresh, not heavy. I wish it performed better. I received a 30ml as part of a swap and while I won’t be replacing it, I will enjoy it until it runs dry.

Lady Gaga really lifted the bar for celebrity scents with this one! Fame is not your run of the mill, smelled it 1,000 times over, celebrity fruity-floral, garbage bound, bore-bomb. It’s different. It’s got a incense note in the dry down that I absolutely love. The initial spray is honey soaked apricot and cosmetic powder. It’s just so different and well composed. The bottle is a beautiful, gothic delight. I’m happy with this perfume for what it is. I feel like a lot of people who give poor reviews are expecting something above Fames level. Is this Dior, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent? Of course not. It’s a celebrity scent. But for what it is, it’s unique, quality, goodness. Lady Gaga really stepped out on a limb and created something other than the “safe” celebrity scents that guarantee sales to teenage girls and brought something a little different to the table. Test it out, you’ll see what I mean.

I just recently purchased a 3.4 oz bottle based on such good reviews. Was excited to try it. Sprayed and was disappointed. 🙁 This scent is not for me. If anyone is interested in a swap of some sort please message me.

No doubt that i love this perfume bigtime! Not because im a fan of lady gaga but because the artistic design of the bottle and the stunning scents of this perfume! From the box, bottle design and the scents is so perfect for me! I have a 1 gift set and 5 100ml of the single bottle. The lotion from the gift set is color black like the liquid of the perfume! So over all i have a 6 bottles. When it comes to scents. I love how they made it! A blast of honey, belladona, incense, apricot, orchid, safron n sambac jasmine!! Not mix but u can really indentify the notes 1 by 1! Its sweet but not sugary sweet! Sweet coz of honey amd apricot and balsamic coz of insense and floral bcoz of the sambac, belladona, orchid and safron! Its really amazing because its not cloying. Its so warm but cool and balsamic that makes it little powdery in the drydown. The push-pull tech. Works so well! Its black inside the bottle and once u spray it airbourne it becomes transparent!about the longevity and sillages! Its a killer! It last long on my skin for whole day! The drydown makes me feel like i showered in a pool of honey powder! And incense. Sweet and balsamic! So its perfect for me! My hubby even loves it and makes him more attracted to me! Thats why i sprayed it when i go to bed with my hubby! Btw its so sexy fragrance also. So 100% i realy love it and 1 of my favorite perfume. And my signature perfume. The bottle is pretty artistic! A metalic golden claw together with a transparent egg shape bottle with its black liquid inside. The carton is so detailed and really stunning! Specially the skul of lady gaga. The gift set box is stunning also. I wish lady gaga will make another flankers for fame! Not black but color white.. Or let say pure gold with a golden flakes inside!, btw this fame perfume is for everyone. A teenager and a mature woman can wear this one.!!.so over all its 10/10 for me!!! And im proud of owning this perfume!
Btw this fragrance have a two different cup or lid! The 100ml have a heavy metal golden cup while the 50, 30, 15 and the small one have a plastic cup coated by a golden color,. So if i were u. If u want a heavy cup that made from the metal not plastic. U better avail the 100 ml.

On me it smells like blackberries. I once had a shower gel from Avon that smelled like that.Sweet and fruity but nothing special. The only thing “special” is that it leaves you a big black spot on the shirt if you wear white clothes.

I really like this perfume. It has such a lovely smell about it but I suspect I might be slightly anosmic or unlucky with perfumes as they never seem strong to me. I love the sweetness and I can smell the apricot and honey somewhat. I love it and recommend it; possibly for evening wear.

The design and packaging of this bottle was a mind blower. Everything about it fascinated me but I was quite accept when the cap was only coated with golden paint and was not metal but plastic. The cap felt cheap
Overall the smell was pleasing later on. The first notes were not very attractive. It did have a smell of honey and fruits but it didn’t smell appealing enough. The first notes smelt cheap and common. The middle notes however were better. I could smell the calmness and the base notes were also fine. The issue I have with this perfume ia that it smella basic. There’s nothing special about it an sits longevity and sillage (especially) was very weak.
Overall it was a decent perfume for it’s price. I would suggest it if you’re into innovation and design or lady gaga but if not then you’d rather buy a more expensive perfume.

This has been around for years and I only just recently decided to show it some interest! When it was released I was really snubbing celeb fragrances which admittedly I still tend to do at times but I have been enjoying Britney, Paris and Madonna perfumes. I saw this for AU $16 and as I have noticed every person my age or younger really owns this I thought why not? I am not that fond of Eau Gaga but upon really trying this one I determined that I actually quite liked it. I don’t think it’s a favorite by no means but it’s a nice everyday perfume.

i have a small spray sample from macy’s i think.
    opening is FRUIT
    then APRICOT/HONEY
    then HONEY/FLOWER
    then HONEY/FLOWER/INCENSE
    ending is FRUITY INCENSE
i like it. it is very interesting, neither part of it is too strong or too weak. i don’t remember how long it lasted but i do remember being able to smell something faintly the next day. i
