This fragrance is so virile your d*ck will grow 2 inches longer when wearing this. LOLOLOL….
The smell has been discussed to death.

Good fortune allowed me to stumble across a vintage bottle at a price I couldn’t refuse. Be mindful that this was a complete blind buy, but always on my “to sniff” list.
My reaction to the first spray and sniff nearly blew the wig clean off the lady’s head. I knew I had struck gold. Crudely put, this is petroleum, leather, violets. Absolutely lovely.
This is not for the dandy gentleman wearing skin tight slacks and makeup. This is for the alpha male who will eat your lunch and pop the bag. If you don’t wear this with confidence, it will not work. As a young man, I have found something that is very unique and will always stay in my collection.
Two sprays while wearing a leather jacket this fall, I know I will cut through the masses wearing La Male, Bleu, Sauvage or the sickeningly sweet gourmands with 2 kilos of sugar like a hot knife through butter in a good way.

One of the most beautiful scents ever. I am highly sensitive to scents, and part of the reason I find many scents cloying, especially sweet ones. I have tried sampled almost 200 fragrances, and can tell you that this is one of those fragrances women love, as well as a man can enjoy. Women love fragrances with violets. I don’t have any reason why, but they do. I can’t stand the scent of violets. This fragrance takes the note of a petroleum scent and something else motivating, so the violets take the backseat. For some reason, this fragrance makes me motivated as well. I’ve worn it in 90 degree weather while exercising outside, and the scent alone just motivates me to go further (not recommended). I feel like a man when I wear this. I mean I am a man, but I’m reminded that I’m a man when I spray this on. I have found an oil that is similar to this fragrance that sells for about 6 dollars shipped, and I love that one as well. If you’re unsure about this one, check out the Fahrenheit type cologne sold on ebay. This is known to be more of a fall scent, and I’d consider it to be bar none the best fall scent. That’s why I put #1 title at the beginning of the video. I have to make a proper video without the comparison, but I sort of want to spend a lot of time editing it because this fragrance is so special. It really is extremely special.

Sometimes I am tempted to buy a male fragrance every now and then, but this one disappointed.
I am a Dior fan, and initially this was okay, but then it changed in the dry-down to a diesel smell which was very unpleasant.
I will pass this on to a male who might appreciate it more.
Glad that the Dior female fragrances are much nicer.

Fahrenheit is not a perfume for everyone and I’m sorry to say it not for me. Warm, sensual and enveloping but not part of my canons. too strong for my nostrils, certainly better than the parfum but I repeat too harsh and strong. It reminds me of an arcane dance of sorcerers around a fireplace in which I (unfortunately) constitute their sacrifice. No one will never beat The Absolute.

    What a perfume!
As opposed to many reviewers here, I am In deep love with this gasoline smell. And that’s the reason Dior put that note in the opening: to have people get out of Fahrenheit’s way!
Only the braves will be allowed to go through it and be rewarded with pure manliness: legendary bitter leather.
The only criticism I may have is toward the middle notes: indeed, on my skin, the violet has a very soapy transition (nearly a “soap middle note”).
No worries fahrenheit… I m patient because I love you!
    For fall/winter evenings, 30+
PS: should you look for a copy, I’m not sure there is one. But one thing is sure: Ferrari Uomo has a very weak projection, so forget about that one!

    Newbies to Fahrenheit :
*VINTAGE* only. Try to nab a 10 year old bottle . You will see the difference instantly! If you can score a 20 year old bottle – even better. 30 year old bottles are getting harder to find, not impossible though.
REFER to the website Raiders of the Lost Scent; you can date the batches.
The future of fragrance is compromised. Stock up now !

I smelled this on my SO and it was nothing like what I imagined. I got a bit of something I can only describe as melon in the opening but after the dry down the scent turned into something a bit more leathery. I didn’t recognize it until I read someone else’s review but the dry down scent is very reminiscent of gasoline.
In addition, the sillage is extremely poor. This perfume was a skin scent within about 30 minutes of application. Which with this fragrance is probably a good thing.
All in all this fragrance was not bad but it wasn’t something I would call good either. This seems like a big flop from Dior.

Sadly this is nothing like it was 10 years ago, it reminds little bit the old one but it is something else now! I also remember that Fahrenheit in 90’s it would last all day, now the new formula lasts two hours, maybe three tops! They destroyed a piece of history, so shame Dior! 🙁

If I were to describe Fahrenheit in one word, that word would be motherfucker.
It is my absolute favorite fragrance, yet one I don’t wear very often with good reason.
It has been described as smelling like petrol/gasoline, and that is right on the money.
Leather has been described as the most prominent note. That is true, and what a leather!
Fahrenheit has one of the best – if not THE best – leather notes ever created. I have an old black biker jacket from the 80’s that still has a leather scent clinging to it, and that is exactly the leather note that’s in Fahrenheit. At the same time the leather note is exactly the smell of fresh leather, that you encounter in a leather shop. It is absolutely superb!
And even though the leather and petrol is overwhelming, it is by no means the whole story. Underneath the initial punch is a wealth of nuances and complexity that gives Fahrenheit an untold richness of depth – changing from wear to wear and minute to minute, yet never once deviating from it’s core excellence.
It is so expertly blended that the pyramid is not in any way able to do it justice, nor describe it. You simply have to try it to know.
And you really do have to try it. If ever there was a fragrance that was not a safe blind buy Fahrenheit would be a strong contender for that title.
It’s not love it or hate it, but there’s definitely room to do both. It is the only fragrance I have ever bought immediately upon trying it without a second thought, but I can imagine that a lot of people would have immediately washed it off.
And that is the reason I wear Fahrenheit sparingly. Because it is a fragrance that requires you to not give a shit, when you wear it.
Wearing Fahrenheit with abandon is a superb experience, but if the tiniest amount of self consciousness about your smell creeps into your mind that experience can turn to a wholly unpleasant one in a heartbeat, as I have had the misfortune of trying a time or two.
When you wear Fahrenheit some people might not be able to bear standing near you.
Some people might accuse you of trying to seem like a badass.
Some people might think that you’re a gay man camping out.
But if you find yourself in the right headspace and the right setting to not care about any of that, Fahrenheit takes that devil may care feeling and amps it up to the point of being intoxicating.
As a result if you’re in the mood you can wear Fahrenheit with a business suit, your birthday suit or anything in between. It’s a matter of attitude.
But you need to be in for the ride and up for anything, because Fahrenheit is not only divisive, it is also unpredictable.
I have tried wearing four sprays, and barely projecting beyond arms reach, and I have tried singing the hairs off the nostrils of everybody in the room with one, even though I went easy on the trigger.
A lot of people say Fahrenheit has been killed by reformulation. I don’t agree. I have a vintage bottle from the nineties and one, I bought a couple of years ago, and to me the the difference is almost non-detectable.
The only difference I can pinpoint is that the new one can sometimes smell a bit like cucumber, if it’s hot out, but that’s about it.
I could talk a lot more about Fahrenheit, but I could never say it all. You have to try it for yourself, and give in to the experience.

To me, this cologne represents the perfect man.
He is a man’s man, classically masculine but also not afraid to be himself even if he has a softer side. He isn’t worried about getting his hands dirty as long as the job gets done, but he also cleans up nicely.
He’s fun as a barrel of monkeys but also has manners and class, and don’t take himself too seriously.. A true gentleman who treats his date or partner with respect, yet a sexual stunner when appropriate.
Showcases his intellect without being pretentious or condescending. Knows his strengths without being arrogant.
    Eat your heart out Aventus!

Notes are green, smells like red.
Fahrenheit feels like a cult movie that somehow became a blockbuster hit. You’ll feel like you found something truly special when you try it on. Like a badass with a gasoline soaked leather jacket. In reality though, a REAL bad boy doesn’t need a cologne to smell like that.

This is another amazing old school fragrance that brings back memories of High School. The violet in this beast is just outstanding. There is definitely a dirty gasoline vibe here but that’s what makes this unique. This is a classic and a masterpiece in my opinion and will always have a spot in my collection.

  17. :

I love it since day one, but… I periodically buy new bottle every 4-5 years, and i always keep older bottles with little amount in it for comparison purposes and every generation (reformulation) is weaker in term of sillage and longevity. Also few years back (8-12 years. i dont know exactly) there was drastical scent modification/reformulation. I bought last one few weeks ago, and its similar or same to its predecessor in scent, but definitely weaker in longevity and sillage. Which is unpleasant. But lot of companies do that to older scents – to weaken them and therefore support sales on new parfumes… Maybe… thats questionable. But what is for sure, is that is weaker, and therefore you have to put more sprays on you, and more often.
Comparison to last version (5 years before):
Sillage of this new one is less sharp, you can smell less oily and gasoline tones than in last version. For me personally, I liked more the sharper dirty car mechanic gasoline tones from older version.

    Green – leather – earthy
    Color impression: burgundy
A legendary leather of yesterday, a weird cucumber now. Fahrenheit used to be a very unusual leathery floral cologne with astonishingly feminine facet hidden within its masculinity. They changed it greatly and today it’s something nonsense with faint hint of past. Girls repel, you smell oldy, you don’t smell daring and significant anymore. It is good but just good and nothing more.
    ★★★

I wore this one when clubbing back in the 90’s….definitely cut through the crowds and you will get noticed. I wouldn’t wear it to work though, too full on. I think it is excellent, and I might buy another bottle sometime out of pure nostalgia and because it’s now an older fragrance and not as popular. This will bring back memories. Use sparingly, as it is a beast.

I got some samples of this for my husband. Couldn’t wait for him to try it. His reaction was unexpected… he smelled his wrist and said “ugghh this is for women!” My husband isn’t a fraghead like me. He still sees fragrances in terms of men’s and women’s… anyway I love how this smelled on him. I would wear this too, and I could see women easily wearing it but I don’t see it as feminine at all.

    GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES!!!
    3 (Red)!!!
    2 (Yellow)!!!
    1 (Green)!!!
    GO!!!
    ERRRRRRRRRRT!!!
Attention all racers, especially the greenhorns who aren’t familiar with it!!! Fahrenheit is a Jekyll and Hyde fragrance…only, in reverse. This scent SCREAMS and SHOUTS, “I’M A BAAAAD MUTHA#!&@%” during the opening with a dark, “IN YOUR FACE,” potent-but-intriguing petroleum KICK IN THE GUT that sloooowly dries down to a citrusy and slightly oriental aroma that says, “Hey, baby. What’s your phone number?”
BEWARE: Make sure that your body is showered and EXTRA clean when using this one. Any slight body odor or abnormal scent could lead to a potential catastrophe with the ladies. It does not mix well with other smells. Also, go easy on the pedal, because it has a lot of octane and packs a mean punch. You could easily lose control of it and go crashing and burning into the barriers, sending all of the pretty girls in the crowd running for their lives…as far away from YOU as possible. This is a classic ass-kicking aroma that still woos the females if worn correctly. Have fun and don’t get caught speeding.
    ERRRRRRRRRRT!!!

As Juiceman stated.. it is good layered with GIT but Aqua do gio as well truthfully! And probably the best layer possible. Polo black can be used.
That is one take.. but imagine with Bvlgari Black 😉
I would not actually layer but instead Fahrenheit the skin and freshen the clothes or separate spots

I layered this with Green Irish Tweed, since they both have heavy violet leaf scent and let me tell you guys, it was like the old formulation but with a fresh twist because of the lemon verbena giving it a sweeter citrus vibe and the iris giving it a light and sweet powdery vibe.
I have only done this probably 4 or 5 times when my wife and I stayed in a 5 star hotel/resort casino in Manila.
With all the people smelling like a cigarette ash tray, the scent from Fahrenheit and GIT will cut through the smoke from the casino and people that are so immune from the cigarette smell will surely notice you and non smokers will be so happy to sit beside you.
Don’t get me wrong, Fahrenheit (even the new formulation) and GIT are already great fragrances just by themselves, but if you’re daring and want something unique, try layering the two and you cannot go wrong with it.
Disclaimer: I found out about this from another Fragrantica member, forgot his name though.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your Honour. I have been hastily summoned here, into this makeshift backroom at this gas station during the current crisis, to testify against the unthinkable crimes committed against perfume creations. I have smelled this on my parent in the late eighties and I can say with confidence… — So, Mister, help me understand, you have smelled this in the past and now you think you have something to say, yes? — Listen to me, you lawyerous lobbying son of a… I know how the violet leaf was, I experienced it! It was almost pure! There was gasoline, but no burned rubber! I am a witness! — Please, calm down, I understand your concern, but you have to consider that there seem to have been legal constraints to which the company had to react. — Your Honour, I understand this, but finding another source for violet leaf or constructing it should not lead to a burned rubber note, especially since what is referred to as the drydown is remarkably the same! — Your Honour, I am sorry to say but this person is a nutjob and is not to be taken seriously. — Please mind your parlance, both of you! I will take into consideration their petitions and I am calling for a break to herald the start of the counselling process.

This is a masterpiece. The smell is very masculine but at the same time they incorporated a flower smell (Violet) that gives it a really special smell (some people say gasoline). The gasoline yes a bit but the dry-down no more and smells awesome.
A really nice scent that girls love on males.

I wanted to like this, I tried samples on multiple occasions but the opening is just way too harsh, it’s gross. Like burnt tires after a burnout. That nasty smoke smell. I hated everything about it. Even smelled it after the dry down but i just couldn’t get past that. There’s something off putting about it.

Two words: BUY VINTAGE. Not so hard to find.

  36. :

    3 out of 5

Strangly enough I never smelt the original version of Fahrenheit although I was very familiar with Guerlain Heritage and YSL Jazz from the same era. My first bottle was from the begening of the 2000’s and I just liked it, not understand it or valeu Fahrenheit as it should. Bur I perceverd for many years, got to undestand it mainly from Literature Theory, the search for ground for new classic easthetics, creation, chaos and catharsis, specially the latter. Then, Fahrenheit starts to make sense as a horror or violent movie that gives you the experience without have to deal with it in real life. Let’s be cave men, or garage mechanics, without really being them. Just have a touch, a thrill of it all when we are out in the tiles. After that we can go home to the security of our very precious mod coms.
Then about two years ago I saw at the airport a new box for Fahrenheit, the bos with a blck frame around it, and thought it was a real improvement of the version I had before. I find the new shelf version to be everything people who know best say about the vintage Fahrenheit, complex and gasoline alley all the way. And it does last for ages ( I live in a hot region fo a hot country ) and stays on cotton tshirts for days and even after been washed.
I really don’t know why to complain about it nowdays. Everything under that ” sun that is the same in a realtive way but you are older, shorter of breath one day closer to death ” has changed drastically ever since. Fahrenheit cannot be the same, and other scent, too, because the whole world has changed … beyond repair, I am afraid. Just try to imagene wearing the same Fahrenheit with the same cloths to the same places doing the same things you the fortunate ones did in the mid 80’s, and earning the same salary I suppose. What is the good in that, for Christ’s sake? Not to mention that memory can do tricky things. I don’t want to go back for nothing in this life, at all…
But I can understand the fact that someone doesn’t like DF, I myself don’t like Aventus, which I think it’s a child-ish scent, but for that reason alone I don’t write about Aventus. I just don’t care.
If you have just discovered the newest version of Fahrenheit and you like it, good for you. No need to search for a time tunel, or mechine if you prefer. Get it, it’s worth what you pay, and more honest than quite a lot of scents available …in this nich frenzy fragrance world we live in today.

I first wore this in early 1990 and wish the current formulation was as strong and as rich…!!
The smell is simply unique; it cannot be mistaken for anything else. Some people describe it as gasoline?! I love gasoline then!
    Suave…
    Sensual…
    The smell of the night…
Definitely in my top 10 of all time and the original formulation possibly in my top 3 of all time (it used to last till the morning after and smelt on clothes for weeks if not washed)
Hail one of the mothers of all perfumes!!!!
    10/10

  46. :

    4 out of 5

Fahrenheit is a classic for a reason – immediately recognizable and totally unique (other than imitators, which are never as good.)
It’s important to note that while Fahrenheit indeed has a gasoline feel (probably due to the violet leaf absolute and ozone synthetics interacting) and a huge leather base (purely due to castoreum – no birch tar anywhere here), it has absolutely zero smokiness (isoquinolines?), resulting in a rich, very green and fresh, yet animalic fragrance.
The fresh musk can be overpowering as with many 80s frags, so careful not to overapply.
The vintage juice (80s-90s) is greatly superior after a number of cheapening formula alterations over the years. Besides the obvious case of the missing real sandalwood, the vintage bathes in the searing violet leaf (NOT soapy violet at all) and a notable gorgeous green jasmine sambac accord.
I don’t own any other frags with an ozone accord. None are done even close as to well as this classic.
Newer formulations suffer from the gasoline accord turning into cheap, thin plastic outgas. In fact, I don’t enjoy the juice currently on the shelf, but love the vintage.

now if this doesnt remind you of saddle soaping the gasoline smell off your apache roper boots i dont know what will.even the soap smell is a reminder of the soap used in mechanic shops.the makers of polo green and fahrenheit are like gene roddenberry and rod serling.way way ahead of their game.what i got is super potent.i mean the citrus is not too different from the aventus, club de nuit and so forth.this was 1988 so yeah i think many colognes borrowed a bit from fahrenheit.instead of opening just citrus it settles with a citrus all the way.the leather is remarkable and subdued after 3hrs.the opening leather though is just WOW!

I’ll always love this. The edt doesn’t last that well, but great unique fragrance. I’m not a fan of the burnt rubber aspect personally, but that violet note is amazing.

About the endless controversy on reformulation, Lucas Turin in his AZ Guide said (after give Fahrenheit an extremely low rate) that original formulation strongly relied on an compound for the violet note (I cant remember the name) that are reactive and heavily restricted now.
Maybe, there is no way back to “original formula” not due to Dior’s greed or money saving, but just for regulatory reasons. Anyway, I never smelled vintage Fahrenheit, and I guess now it only will exists in the memory (and in very expensive bottles deals online)

I recently started getting into fragrances and wondered why the hell this fragrance was on this list. All it took was a test at a nearby store to find out.
This is probably one of the most unique scents I ever smelled. The first thing that came to mind was the sound of an engine getting revved up when I applied this and waited for a few minutes.
I don’t know if I’ll use it every day. I have yet to try it and see what results in doing that, but should the results be positive, it’ll probably become a signature fragrance of mine.

Very unique, one of a kind, powerful, extremely masculine, daring, alerting, dirty yet clean, harsh yet fresh, sophisticated, elegant, mysterious…
Ever since I was young I found myself addicted to the scent of petrol stations, gasoline always smelled so good to my nose… when I grew older – this fragrance became my private all time favorite petrol station.
This was magic back in the day and it’s magic to this day.

On vacation in Winnipeg, MB. I visit the Polo Park mall Sephora and what jumps out at me to wear? Fahrenheit!
I own a bottle of this gasoline/motor oil, leather, florals and wood. On this cool, overcast Winnipeg day it fumes beautifully. I assume the bottle they have is a 2018 and it lasted all day. Uber masculine juice that I wish more ladies would wear. Smells like your uncle in 1992. There’s a reason why this is a classic.

It’s an guilty pleasure of mine. I’m in my 20’s and it’s definitely for an older folks but I don’t care. I don’t care what others think about this one it’s just wonderful.

    “Can you describe the assailant?”
“No, officers. I was blindfolded. But I did smell something like a bunch of flowers, a latex glove, and tires.”
The detectives look at each other and declare in unison, “Fahrenheit!”

Love the octane vibe you get from this, I have recently bought a new bottle of the original EDT, and a few months earlier I bought the Farhenheit Le Parfum he newer EDP…. they’re different enough that you can have both, I prefer the Parfum to be honest, it’s sweeter, darker, more boozy, gentlemanly , but the EDT has this more rugged daily wear after I work my lawn vibe that says “I’m a man, get me my beer” … but sexy… it just works that’s why it’s a masterpiece

    Unapologetically Masculine
This is a hall of fame fragrance and timeless. I certainly hope no one is saying this is for old men.
Once a man becomes 25 or so he begins to want fragrances that express his character more and cares less about appealing to party girls.
This fragrance can give you more confidence or enhances your confidence and smells prestigious.
A rare and quality combination of aromatic qualities, masculine ruggedness, and timeless elegance.
modern batches give me 6 to 8 hours longevity, fair projection and good to excellent sillage.

Fahrenheit will always remind me of my childhood because my mom wore this all the time which is ironic since it’s one of the most masculine fragrances ever created! Strangely though it worked for her and is still her all time favorite scent.
I would describe this as a gasoline and leather jacket explosion at first followed by a dirty, spicy dry down.
It’s a late 80’s classic for a reason, a must try by all fragrance lovers!

So I was leaving the grocery store the other day,a normal, uncool thing to do. I was loading my bags into my uncool minivan, preparing to carry on with whatever was next in my uncool 40 year old life.
Out of my periphery, I see an SUV pull up behind my van, and a female voice says “Excuse me….” I looked up and saw 2 young women in the car. I figured they needed directions or were having car trouble, so I walked up to the passenger window. She said “oh damn, he DOES smell good!”
The driver said “I was behind you in the store and you smell amazing. What cologne is that? I want to get some for my boyfriend .” I thanked her and said it was Fahrenheit by Christian Dior. “Dior?!” she said… “That’s what’s up!”
    It was pretty cool.
In short , maybe Fahrenheit is an old man fragrance, but the young ladies seem to love it.
It’s probably best summed up by Col. Bill Kilgore : “It’s that smell…. that gasoline smell. Smells like….. Victory .”
    It sure does colonel.

This is by far the best perfume I have ever smelled. The gasoline smell is there and it is very enjoyable. It is very masculine and therefore not suitable for females- I cannot imagine having a good impression on a woman wearing this, although the dry down is more light and neutral. It is atpyical and unlike any other fragrances. I find it particularly good as nobody seems to wear this anymore. May not be suitable for steaming hot (25+ degrees) days but otherwise I feel that you can wear this day/night all year around.
    Scent: 10/10
    Sillage: 8/10
    Longevity: 9/10

To me the smell of leather/petroleum is overwhelming.

I hadn’t worn this in years, but the other day I was trying to identify my bottle (which I think is from the 1990s, batch code AB1), and I decided to wear it. Surprisingly, I really liked it, though I can’t speak to the recent formulations. Think of walking into a detached garage or shed, and inside is a lawn mower that was used a few days earlier. Yes, it’s mostly the smell of grass that is in the process of drying out and and old engine that’s leaking oil. If you’re in the mood for this sort of thing, it works!

Furthermore I’d like to add that I don’t think I’ll ever come across another scent quite like this one. If adrenaline had a smell it would be Fahrenheit! No other
