I’m a coconut addict, so naturally, I wanted to love this fragrance. Unfortunately, there’s something about Exotic Coconut that keeps putting me off. Every time I smell it I go from “Ooh this smells really good” to “Ehh, maybe not so much.” I don’t know what it is, but sometimes I get an old lady-like powderyness from it and other times I get a soft, sweet powderyness reminiscent of powdered sugar. Ugh, I want to like it, but I’m so indifferent. For now, I just stay clear of it.

The one scent I have ever managed to find that smells exactly like ’70s Coppertone to me. Not even CB I Hate Perfume’s At the Beach 1966 did the trick for me.

I have a blind bought huge bottle (240 or something ml) because I love Yves Rocher’s coconut and coconut in general so much I wanted a backup and this came so very cheap. But this is not far as good as YR’s coconut.
It has a chlorine like side smell. Maybe from the plastic bottle? Coconut and chlorine, not the best combo.
So I keep the YR coconut for a pure coconut scent in itself, and use this one for layering with summer scents, it’s good for that. I layer it with YR Monoi and Cabotine Eau Vivide, and I’ll try it with Serpentine.
I don’t regret buying it because it’s good for layering, and together with this I also got a 88 ml bottle of Vanilla Bean Noel which is a lovely caramel scent.
Update: Oh yes, they make each other so much better with Serpentine. They won’t work on their own but together they form a great summer scent.

Ok, so I don’t have the edt or even the body spray of this one. I have the lotion! Several bottles after a $4 sale at BBW. in lotion form, this is wonderful for after a bath or shower. It smells great, it’s actually the best coconut I have ever smelled.
It’s more of a roasty coconut smell, and its sweet and long lasting as a lotion will get. If I saw the body spray or edt I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Ugh, I was disappointed in this. Exotic coconut is not my favorite scent, but I find it perfectly okay in shower gel and lotion form. So, when the EDT was on sale, I figured it would be okay too. I don’t know whether it’s down to skin chemistry, or that the EDT smells remarkably different from the other Exotic Coconut products, but this smelled like rancid suntan lotion on me (while the other products tend more towards a sophisticated coconut). I didn’t actually have to go wash this stuff off, but still, it was pretty bad.

Exotic coconut is a perfect summer scent. I love its coconut and vanilla sweetness and wear it often. Its notes remind me of my favorite coconut ice cream I order at Thai food restaurants. I wear it most days of summer and it is truly delicious and decadent.

My favorite coconut scented splash. A bottle of this is always in my beach bag during the summer. I definitely like the scent of this more than the new BBW “Oahu Coconut Sunset” they came out with for spring. It’s more fresh and soft to me.

Wow, what a find! I picked this scent up at the SAS in the body lotion and I love it! Not the typical ‘sweet’ coconut. It i tempered by some creamy vanilla and a few other notes that give it almost a slightly floral feel. This is coconut for non-coconut lovers! Absolutely lovely.

Powdery to the point that it comes off as smokey. Smells of low quality & is extremely dry. The price is low, so it may be worth it for some.

I have to be in the right mood to wear anything coconut scented, but when I am in the mood for it this is my GO TO coconut fragrance. (I also like VS Coconut Passion, but sometimes get a plasticky note that disagrees with me.) This is by FAR the best coconut scent I have ever owned. It is so warm, creamy, and delicious – nearly edible. Truely a great fragrance for summer – or for those times when you wish it was summer.

Smells more of powdery tonka and vanilla bean than coconut. There’s also some miscellaneous tropical fruity notes floating around in there.
I remember testing this the first time in my teens. I thought “exotic” would mean dark, or that it would have oriental notes like incense or spices. No, I can’t say this fragrance is very exotic.
It somehow doesn’t manage to be coconut enough for those who absolutely love the scent (such as myself) and too coconut for those who aren’t the biggest fans. Still, someone must love it as it’s been around all this time.

When I bought this scent, I wanted to like it so much, since I love anything coconut-scented. However, the vanilla overpowered the coconut. They should have named this scent “Exotic Vanilla Coconut”. Such a disappointment! I’m still on the lookout for the perfect coconut scent! (Besides suntan lotion! LOL)

one of my fav. bath and body works scents. it does seem to work well in the winter b/c of the vanilla.today i wore the body lotion with victorias secret sexy little things noir perfume and they go great together! (they have some of the same notes 🙂

I adore Coconuts Scents in the summer time and don’t care if they smell like Suntan Lotion or not. In fact I kind of like that; but to me this Coconut is more a winter coconut if that makes sense. It is very Coconuty at first spray, but then dries down to a more Vanilla on me, very warm scent and rather strong. They don’t have it even at SAS’s at my B&BW anymore. Too bad, it’s kind of an unforgettable scent.

At first, I was excited about this scent because I saw all the positive reviews on this and other sites. However, when I first sprayed it, I was sadly disappointed. I have been searching for the perfect “real” coconut perfume, and I still haven’t found it. This perfume is far from perfect, and I have to say that I strongly dislike it. The scent is too harsh (maybe only on my skin), and never seems to dry down to a softer coconut. Perfumes do tend to smell stronger on me, but this one gives me migraines. This does not smell natural to me at all. Even thinking about it makes me nauseous.

BBW has come out with a few perfumes with coconut and this is one of the two that I enjoy besides creamy coconut. Unfortunately this has a faint smell of plastic or something synthetic when I wear it. 🙁

I bought the matching shower gel and body lotion at the semi-annual sale and I quite like it; it’s great for summer. I have VS’s coconut passion and I think this one resembles it somewhat. I don’t get any weirdness in the notes either. I’m not a huge fan of coconut, but I have a few like this that smell really nice and not overpowering. When my hubby smelled it he said, “Yum! I smell coconuts! But then he added “You smell like tanning lotion!” I know he meant it in a nice way and yes, most tanning lotions have a coconut smell, but I told him that really wasn’t what I was going for with the scent. He then said “Aww hon, it smells really good and I like the way it smells on you!” So if he likes it, I like it too. And no, to me it doesn’t smell like tanning lotion. 🙂

I love this. I actually only have it in the body spray. I’ve gotten compliments when I wear it. People know me by this scent or have for the last year since I’ve worn it a lot. lol

I love this one. I’ve never smelled the plasticky note that others describe. It’s much more rich than the other coconut scents from Bath and Body Works, such as coconut lime verbena, fresh pineapple, and aruba coconut. All of those just smell too sticky sweet to me, like a cocktail, or candy. Exotic coconut smells more like a creamy spiced rum with toasted edges. There is something animalistic about it as well…maybe the musk note it claims. I don’t smell it as true musk, though, so I’m not sure that’s it. Could just be a combo of two or more notes. I can say that this is a bit overwhelming when you first put it on, esp. the body cream, which seems very concentrated. I do not like the body spray because it smells of too much alcohol or astringent. I’ve never owned the eau de toilette, so I can’t be a good judge of that. This scent takes me a way to vacation in the carribean, and that’s why I like wearing it. It instantly calms me on a stressful work day like today.
    Update:
I’ve managed to find the Eau de Toilette on Ebay, and I love it. It is perfectly toasted, coconut and spices on my skin. It is a Caribbean vacation in a bottle. Yumm!

I am very, very impressed by this coconut scent because it does not smell too synthetic. It’s warm and cozy and the right about of sweetness, it’s just perfect. I’m just in love with coconut and b&bw has absolutely captured the perfect balance. Love it!

This is by far one of my favorite fragrances of all time. I sampled it only few years ago and fell in love immediately. this is not suntan lotion kind of a scent-this is toasted coconut with vanilla. I read reviews before saying it “smelled like plastic or playdo” and for the life of me, i have no idea what they are talking about. Its warm, rich toasted coconut with hints of vanilla. I have the bodyspray and it lasts very long time and I can still smell it on my shirt the next day. I will continue buying it as long as BBW makes it. It always makes me think of beaches, palm trees and fruity tropical drinks
P.S. I have several suntan lotions from Hawaiian Tropics and this DOES NOT smell like suntan lotion. This is like real toasted coconut that you put on a cake.

Wearing this fragrance right now. It begins as a very astringent coconut on my skin. After about 30 minutes, A creamier coconut with the light backing of vanilla emerges and I am content. 🙂 Even though it’s winter, this still feels weather appropriate. I hate fruity coconut scents (like coladas), but thankfully, the fruity notes in this fragrance are nonexistent on my skin. Love, love, love.

This scent only works great in the edt. The scent screams summer and is heavenly on sun kissed skin! Smells like coconut, I give thanks to this scent which single handedly made my husband fall in love with me (he’s a surfer). Wish they hadn’t discontinued it now I can only get at certain times of the year.

This is my signature scent. Never gives me a headache and I layer it on (lotion & body splash). I get a nice summer coconut plus vanilla scent from it on my skin. The true test was my mother – EVERYTHING annoys her (scents) but this did not. Everyone at work loves this scent. I wear it all year round, great staying power & reasonably priced – all I need.

I’ve always enjoyed this scent, and I do think it’s more of an exotic coconut scent instead of suntan lotion or candy coconut. The actual scent of a coconut is very mild and fresh. This has some depth, and it smells fresh while being sensual. I got it as a gift from a former boyfriend, so it has those good memories for me. I wish they hadn’t taken it out of the stores, but it is still online and comes out during sales. This is one of the only scents from them that I actually miss, and I stocked up on the body spray so I can use it over the Summer. If they had added much more, then the coconut would get lost behind fruits/florals/spice. It’s a perfect blend in my opinion, and it never smells like plastic on my skin or clothes. I spray it on clothes, towels, and keep it in the fridge on hot days.

This smells like an exotic summer on a beach, all straw hats and drinking out of coconut cups. It’s summer in a bottle for sure. I don’t smell any fruit, but that is fine with me, I’m happy with smelling like a delicious coconut.

I’m sorry…but I’m going to have to give another negative review. I didn’t like Exotic Coconut at all. Nothing about it smelled “exotic” to me (but then again, I just might be hard to please since I come from two exotic islands). BOTH the Creamy Coconut AND Exotic Coconut smell like watered down coconut milk mixed with plastic. = I didn’t get any fruit notes in this one. I was actually expecting a slightly spicier, somewhat nutty, coconut and fruits added with a light hand. I got nothing. It was very bland and boring. The sillage was disappointing as well….but then again, I’m glad it didn’t last long because I didn’t want to wear plastic coconut all day.

This is bliss in a bottle if you like super sweet, tropical type scents. I absolutely adore how sun tan lotions such as Hawaiian Tropic smell and I have since I was a little kid. This, to me, is like a perfected version of that. It hits you with a huge rush of berries and tropical fruits; I definitely pick up on both of those notes! It’s almost too sweet until it starts to dry down into a softer, more vanilla scent with (as sushijunkie mentioned) the smell of real coconuts. It’s perfect for the beach on a hot sunny day. Just sniffing the bottle made me want to go swimming.

I love Exotic Coconut. It is definitely better than Bath and Body Works’ previous Creamy Coconut scent which I found plastick-y and quite nauseating and cloying. Exotic Coconut smells more of “real ” coconuts…it reminds me of the beach! Laying on the sand on a lazy summer day, haring the splash of waves against the shore, sun shielded by my wide brimmed beach hat, while i sip on a cool pina colada. Definitely a classic for summer…and even winter! Strangely it works even during the cooler months as it gives a comforting warmth 🙂 Love it!!
