LOVE IT!! Specially for formal events, or hot summer beach plan.

Smells nice, but unfortunately longevity on me is about as long as a goldfish’s memory. I would be mad as a wet cat if I bought a whole bottle with this performance.

Love it, sprayed this fresh scent for many years in my twenties.

Cloying hand soap / water melon mixture.
Opening is alright, but the drydown is getting me on the nerves. It seems to get stronger by the hour.
Trying to wash it off somehow intensifies the projection even more. What is this!?

Very Green fresh scent with a hint citrus. Projection and silage is weak longevity is about 2-4 hours typical for a citrus scent.

Got it as a birthday gift. I don’t like it at first because it smells too light and almost too fresh. Now, after using it for almost 2 months, I have to say that I like it. Fresh, Fruity, and Citrusy. This is the true green fragrance for me. I don’t love it that much, but I really like it.
The opening smells like how green colour smells like. But the drydown is really amazing. Too bad the longevity is weak, only lasts for about 2 hours and then it becomes a skin scent.
This is a good, safe fragrance. It lacks creativity and something special, though.

Husband has had this for about 3 years, 2.5oz with about 1/6th left in the bottle. Its an easy reach for work or great in the summer. He likes to layer it with Azzaro Chrome Legend for work, sort of cheapie with a spray of the more expensive stuff to make the bottle last a bit longer.
To me its Sporty, Green, Spicy. The sandalwood and patchouli ground the top and mid without overwhelming and add to the spice. I like it, and I think it suits the purpose it was made for. It makes a Man smell nice if he’s exercising or playing sports without stinking and overwhelming those around him.
I smell more of the citrus top on my Husband when he first sprays, but I of course sprayed some on my skin and I really get the tomato leaf on me! If you’ve ever vegetable gardened or bought tomato’s on the vine its actually a pleasant bordering on stinky green aroma. I like catching that note! Its earthy and organic. All in all a nice summer/hot weather choice without it being aquatic. Needs a hot body moving about with a slight perspiration to make it into something remarkable. On cold skin or weather it has no silage. I think its well put together as a sport fragrance because it doesn’t overwhelm, but if you are sedentary you will be disappointed.
As a Lady I like it, smells great on my Husband, I would recommend you guys buy this with the gym bag or activity in mind. This is not your going out special sauce.

Easy reach for active guys of any age from teens 50+. Fresh, sporty, green scent ideal for spring/summer. Projects for about an hour then quickly becomes close to skin. Reminds me of Adidas Sport Field mixed with Mugler Cologne because of it’s green soapy vibe. If you have a large collection of green, soapy, citrus men’s fragrances, this wont impress you. On the other hand, if you need a casual warmer weather sporty cologne that wont overwhelm anybody, Lacoste Essential is one to consider.

It is a fresh scented perfume that is very easy to wear and would be great for an everyday fragrance that would not offend anyone even if you go heavy on it. It has a fresh citrusy opening and then dries down to an almost lime peel scent with some greens.

Disgusting! Smells like a byre (with some citrus) on my skin. Thank god I have only a sampler.

This is the type of fragrance that wont hurt anything by being in your collection. It smells good and fresh and also last a good while. I have worn this a few times the past couple of months and have gotten compliments. This fragrance will not stand out by no means, but will definitely hold its on. Super green out of the shower smell. 7 out of 10.

  13. :

    5 out of 5

Starts off with a pleasant mix of bergamot, cassia leaf (which smells very green), tangerine, and tomato leaf. It’s a quite pleasant opening but oddly reminds me a lot of some sort of bath body wash or soap I’ve used in the past. The tomato leaf makes it unique-smelling in the world of fresh fragrances, and it has a sweet undertone to it all rather than sharp citrus as is usual for fresh fragrances. I think a lot of people would enjoy the sweetness, but personally I am not a huge fan. It’s a unisex fragrance in my opinion due to the sweetness: women can easily wear this. On drydown I get a lot of rose scent mixing with the tomato leaf, and it becomes even sweeter. The rose is very prominent and very sweet. I am not against rose per se in fragrances (I love Cartier Declaration d’un Soir for instance), but this is a very sweet almost candy-like rose rather than a fresh one. Basenotes are much the same but with cedarwood. Sillage is weak-to-moderate and longevity is strong but as a skin scent. Overall it’s an ok fragrance but is too feminine due to the sweetness and far too casual for my liking.

Pretty nice fresh citrusy type scent.
Definitely for late spring and summer use.
I get orange, lemon, bergamot at first with a dry down I think sandalwood light woody but still fresh. Also a little soapy which is not a bad thing.
However it does smell a little dated and the more I wear it I can smell that dreaded tomato note,so will be giving it away soon. Pretty decent longevity too,I get about 6-7 hours.

An amazing fresh, green and clean scent from Lacoste.
    Great projection and longevity.
In my opinion one of the best “freshies” on the market.

The tomato leaf definitely brings this from generic and boring, to memorable and unique! I wore this to work today. Extreme cold and snowy, but it kept up and it garnered a few compliments! Pleasantly surprised.

  18. :

    5 out of 5

I used to think of this fragrance as a very safe/boring fragrance. As I get older I understand the simple beauty of it. It is very unique i.e. gets copied by other fragrances. It has this wet grass smell that I adore.. reminds of taking hikes in the spring when the foliage is coming to life and the cold river water is spraying mist in the air. It also reminds me of beer (yes, beer!)… not the taste, but the cut lime that gets thrown in to a freshly opened cold bottle of beer right out of the cooler. Another benefit to this is that it lasts and lasts… it has an aroma that is very present but doesn’t clog up the nose with abrasive sweetness: something that is all too common in newer releases. Great fragrance.

This is definitely a go-to fragrance for me and I will rebuy definitely as I paid retail for this at one point. Wanted it then and there but paid a fortune at CVS. Florida Everglade + Shield™ Soap + some florals with a Chrome-ish ck one type drydown but still keeping the soapy green floral that sets it apart. I remember I first sampled I was at Macy’s years ago and put it back like “what is that cat litter note. Went back later and swiped it up. Love it although it can be generic at times it still has that “something” which keeps it from smelling cheap

Nice after the shower, clean scent. It has what I call the Lacoste Sweet Vibe, that many of their scents carry. I happen to like this Vibe so I like this scent.
It’s generic. It will get you mild compliments (“oh you smell nice”). It’s a fantastic gym/groceries/casual around town scent.
Longevity is below average (3-5 hours) with projection falling to skin within an hour.
A 6.75/10 for me, but a value buy. Worth seeking out to see if you dig the scent for casual short term wear. Buying a 100ml will only set you back like $25.

  21. :

    4 out of 5

This is the opposite of essential.
This fragrance is instantly forgettable and is a generic blend of citruses that doesn’t dare to be anything. Far too safe. My mum gave me this as a present four years ago and Im struggling to finish the 75ml. I wear it when I don’t really feel like wearing anything because it’s just soapy. The typical kind of thing you buy someone when you’re worried they might not like it, or you’re not sure what kind of fragrances they use.

  22. :

    3 out of 5

    Definitely Love
Fresh, zesty, green, soapy. Tomato leaf is very clear and very beautiful.
Unique and different from normal fresh scents, quickly puts you in a good mood
Works very well in hot summer days.
You can spray as much as you want and will never annoy people around you.
    Highly Recommended

  23. :

    4 out of 5

This is a safe, warm weather scent that anyone could pull off but it is also unique when compared to some other unnamed “sport” and summer frags. There’s a good hit of rose as this heats up that I really like that sets it apart from some of its more aquatic counterparts. This will not blow your mind but it won’t let you down either.

  24. :

    5 out of 5

Nice, inoffensive summer scent. It’s a safe citrus scent. I feel like masculine fragrances are easier to get right because there is a lot less that can go wrong. It’s nothing out of this world of course, but it’s clean and pleasant. Maybe too young for someone approaching their 30s, but not significant enough to be faulted for it. 6.5/10

  25. :

    3 out of 5

My first fragrance bought from US. It was a blind buy. One of the best summer fragrance. Really well done. The tomato leaf in it smells great. Initial opening is little sharp. Works really in warm weather. Surely a summer scent.
Silage: initial couple of hours good. Then becomes soft. One can experience the bursts fragrance fumes as and when body becomes warm and once sweats mildly.(They call it as time relase technology!!)
    Longevity: 6-8 hours
    Scent: 9

  26. :

    5 out of 5

My first ever fragrance. I wore this throughout high school, and that’s what it reminds me of. It’s a safe citrus scent that is never offensive and never overpowering – perfect for a first-time fragrance wearer or someone who likes to smell nice but doesn’t want to shell out big bucks for a more exotic citrus fragrance. Pales in comparison to some of the more popular citrus scents – Bleu de Chanel, l’Eau d’Issey, etc. – but it is still the fragrance I consider to be the most dependable.

This was 1 of the first fragrances I bought years ago and it’s still a scent I enjoy today ! With that said its a go-to cologne when I want to smell good but don’t want to use my more prized colognes.
So in a nutshell, it’s a scent that I like but not a scent that I love !
This starts out kind of synthetic, slightly sweet, bitter and green(I’m not a fan of the opening)
But once it dries down it becomes more smooth as the rose comes in and is still slightly soapy and green.
I have gotten a few compliments on this which tells me others perceive this as pleasant but in the first hour every once in a while the sharpness has bothered me( with only 4 sprays)
Performance on this above average for a light, summer type of scent ! It lasts me 6-8 hours and projects pretty well for the first 2 hours.
All in all a pretty solid scent for everyday use and/ or signature scent but it’s nothing that will make you stand out !
Overall rating 7 out of 10 ! A good fragrance but not a great fragrance

    Review number 2.
I bought an authentic bottle on eBay,125ml for $32
It’s the same as from the sample I had.
Fresh,a bit soapy, a bit spicy and sweet.
    Cassia+tangerine+tomato leaf=[^_^]
This worth having,it’s smells nice and it’s cheap!
    Women will def love this!

Nice, fresh n green, sort of the green scent I was looking for, slightly metallic n clean.
Problem is it doesn’t last at all, what a shame. I’ll use it when I’m going to the gym.

It is an underrated perfume. Very green, fresh, light with decent projection. Perfect for hot, humid and tropical climate. I would rate it 4/5

I got a sample of this couple months ago and dismissed it because of the initial spray.I came back to it yesterday and sprayed it on my wrist and t-shirt.After the dry down,i got a nice clean, soapy, spicy and sweet scent.I could not believe it.I can still smell it on the t-shirt.Think I might get a bottle.

  35. :

    4 out of 5

I consider it as safe scent, as it is refreshing.
However it lacks of complexity as it quite a linear smell in my opinion.
However, sometimes simplicity is just enough. If you just looking for fresh, this one might nail it.

Green and fresh. It’s a typical colonge for me. The scent is nice, just poor sillage and longevity.

I didn’t realize Lacoste Essential had been regarded as this versatile until seeing some of the online reviews, but it makes sense, given the curious blend of note categories it involves. I remember looking forward to and enjoying it greatly after purchasing my first batch in 2006, right when it came out, but after nearly a decade, I admit it now smells relatively synthetic. Yes, it’s still an agreeable “green” fragrance that has the versatility of fruity, herby, aquatic, and even spicy notes, but none of these notes really stands out. It’s green in the way that many blue fragrances are just blue—an amorphous mix of notes that are not individually recognizable enough to give it a natural feel.
Lacoste Essential’s projection is relatively soft and its longevity is moderate for a lighter fragrance, so on secondary markets its price is finally catching up to its value. Not a bad item to have in a collection, but I won’t be replacing my bottle with a new one once it runs out. There are simply too many superior blue/green/white designer frags to work into the warm weather rotation.

It smells good. Notes of green grass, cilantro, and tennis.
The “re-activation” feature is cool too. Better than Folger’s crystals.

  40. :

This fragrance is the definition of casual. You will smell fresh, clean, like out of the shower, but you won’t leave any impressions.
The tomato leaf is what separates this scent from the mayority of fresh scents. normaly this type of scents are more citrusy, but this one has a sweet undertone (not a strong sweet though) that kinda makes it different in its own way.
Perfect for a walk outside or staying at home on a spring/summer day.
    7.5/10

  41. :

One of the few massively successful sports fragrances to hit the market in the 2000’s, overtaking Polo Blue in its prime at department stores across Europe and North America and expanding the palette of what casual slash gym slash active summer aromatics were supposed to do. This one is an odd mix of soapy clean, citrus, leafy green, full-flavored fruity and fresh spicy, giving it a remarkable versatility for its genre and making it suitable for wear throughout spring, summer and early fall.
The fruity, leafy and dark cassia dominates early in Lacoste Essential, working in combination with the tomato leaf to create a spicy, fruity, green effect and toning down what would otherwise be an extremely high-pitched citrus top with the tangerine and bergamot eclipsed and pushed to the background.
This evolves rather quickly from top to mid to drydown, with the cassia and citrus fading after 1.5-2 hours and developing into a soft sandalwood rose accord that dips dramatically in sillage and makes for a rather bland but unimposing drydown that lasts until the 5 or 6 hour mark before reapplication is necessary. What the wearer discovers with Lacoste Essential is that the early performance is due almost exclusively to the cassia and tomato leaf and once those two core ingredient begin to fade, so do performance and personality.
Still a good everyday fragrance for sport and active men looking for something outside the usual cologne pyramid of citrus, floral and woods. Just don’t expect too much performance from Essential, it’s at its best the first 2 hours of wear before it tones down dramatically, which makes sense for athletes who don’t need the distraction, but won’t be suitable for men looking to make an impression or to last all day at work or at the beach. Grab Lacoste Essential Sport if you are looking for more performance, longevity is a monster on that one. This one is all about the unique top and it’s a fun and addictive scent to wear because of its leafy, green and fruity palette, all rather unusual for a citrus aromatic summer staple. Fun, light, optimistic, versatile and uplifting, worth having in the wardrobe for spring and summer at reasonable prices online.

    Totally versatile.
I dont think anyone wud come to Lacoste to find something mind-blowing, and this indeed is not. Its a crowd pleasear; rather difficult to dislike. Smells sweet and pleasant with a touch of green leaves and a little citrus to it.
Overall good and simple from Lacoste, for gents who seek to simply smell good
    Thumbs up from me

I loved this one when it first came out and bought 2 bottles of this. But now this stuff doesn’t do it for me anymore. It was those days when I wasn’t really into fragrances and this became my signature scent for about 2 years straight until I just couldnt even smell it on me anymore because my nose had gotten so used to it. There are much better fragrances to choose over this one for sure now though. It is just an ok if I was to give it a rating it would be a 6/10. when I first bought it about 10 years ago and I was younger it was amazing but now not so much. For those of you who are into the fresh cut grass type of scents you just might enjoy this one.

They say you get what you pay for…true!! you cannot compare this to a Creed or a Parfum de marly…not the most appealing fragrance ..trying to hurry up and use my bottle up…..4/10 overall…very generic smell but perhaps good for simple casual wear

  46. :

A very nice green, joyful fragrance with a bright character to it! Careless and of good quality, it has a happy green, fresh vibe going on with a classy, yet not overbearing soapiness. Amazing choice for springtime and a great brother of Essential Sport which is fantastic for spring!

  47. :

    3 out of 5

Solid freshy, definitely original while staying versatile. It’s just barely too soapy and clean for me, I wish there was a stronger pop of pepper or even more rose to balance the grassy vibe. This is a great option for people who love the smell of fresh cut grass or those with youthful souls.

  48. :

Perfect scent for sunny days, summer or spring… Sometimes hot nights too. Have an amazing lasting and the perfume still in the fur really heavy. For me it is a must. Fresh, fruity and green, just like my wife loves!

This is the fragrance I wore every spring and summer since its release in 2005 and I still enjoy throwing it on occasionally. but unfortunately the new bottle I purchased doesn’t last near as long as the original did… this will always be one of my favorites though.

I had this back in college years, it just reminds me a chill out time back then. Amazing burst of citrusy and fresh woody scent. Suit for everyday fragrance. It has a playful/sporty scent which is good for daytime use.
I definitely will recommend this fragrance to anyone who is looking for casual, fresh, playful scent.
    Sillage:B Moderate, noticeable freshness
Longevity: B Not bad, lasted 4~6 hours on me
Compliment: B some say good, others doesnt seems to bother or nothing special
Value: B Price is okay to me, and worth a try. But somehow i like it!!

Very fresh, like you just got out of the shower. Almost a soapy scent. In my opinion, it’s best to use just a few, light squirts, as it can be easily overpowering with a big squirt or two. I also have the body wash version of this, it’s even better because it’s more relaxed from being washed. Overall a good scent. Would recommend for guys in their 20s and early 30s.

I have the gift set with shower gel and deo. Have worn it a week straight hoping somehow at some point this would achieve some sort of breakthrough on my skin after wear after wear of disappointing performance. It’s no use. Projection on my modestly dry skin has consistently been sub-par with Essential toning down quickly within thirty minutes into a skin scent that is very soft and takes a good deal of pushing my nose into my skin to pick up even after 4-5 sprays. It’s a shame because I love the combination of black currant leaves and tomato leaf in this one, gives it a real spring-summer morning dew feel with a touch of the European countryside. This is a very linear, what you smell on top is what you get with a bit of rose entering the pictur after an hour and hints of woods in the dry down but with the tomato and black currant leaves still dominating. Essential lasts about 6-7 hours with projection soft. It is better suited for athletes who can’t afford to be distracted by their colognes and the casual 20 something looking for something versatile that can be worn all seasons during the day.
I have finally given up trying to get performance out of this. The scent was very good and rather unique and distinguishing though it should never be used for formal events. Performance is very disappointing, odd considering how long lasting Lacoste Essential as Sport is.

  55. :

    4 out of 5

Very distinctive scent, you know what it is immediately when you come across someone else wearing it thanks to the tomato leaf and cassia heavy composition. Fantastic for sports and spring, summer casual wear, very refreshing and soapy. Very green and citrusy, well balanced but unfortunately as much as I love the scent, my recent bottle from 2012 doesn’t have the projection my vintage bottle had. This thing just doesn’t project at all on my skin, even with 5-6 sprays within an hour I have to lift an arm to even get a whiff. Bear that in mind when considering this one for your collection. I hate to say it, but Belcam’s copy of this called Ace is a bit too heavy on the cassia and tomato leaf and isn’t as well balanced with the citrus and light woods, but its quite competent, much stronger and a better interpretation of the original formulation with excellent longevity and projection. If you are getting as poor performance as Legolas and I are, I highly suggest you look into Ace for about 1/4th the price. Longevity for me is about 5-7 hours, but rather faint quickly into application.

I am surprised more people didnt put ‘Love It’ insread of ‘Like it’..
Its spicy fresh, clean and enjoyable.. I dont wear colognes in a season , I think this is great all the time.. That being said it may be more of a fun scent rather than a serious, business, formal occasion scent…
Decent longevity and sillage.. I get hugs and compliments at the bar from the ladies..
A solid 8.5 out of 10.. Its my favorite from Lacoste.. I have a lot of colognes and would keep this if I had to get down to only a handfull…

  60. :

I agree that this is primarily suitable as a summer fragrance (it’s generally for that purpose that I’ve bought it a couple of times now) but I am not convinced that it particularly deserves to be classed (and, in some cases, written off) as a young man’s scent. It is no generic aquatic (no aquatic at all), nor does it scream sexuality in a way that might be no more fitting for a more mature user than for an inexperienced teen. Although I find the sillage and longevity only fair anyway, to my nose and/or on my skin the combination of aromatic (I hesitate to say pungent) green/leafy notes and the pepper accord seems to work well with the woody and spicy base elements (not least the patchouli) to balance or hem in the citrus notes of a kind that I might expect to be more prominent in a fragrance exclusively suited to the sporty younger man. This is, at any rate, a scent that I remain quite happy to wear after around seven or eight years’ familiarity with it. That is not something I can say for fragrances such as Lacoste Red or Burberry Brit, both of which I quickly found too floral, with too little of anything I might regard as masculine depth in the base, for me to want to wear them. That said, in my opinion, this has little or none of the dark, earthy or smoky masculinity of many scents based around oakmoss or vetiver, for example. In summary, I find this to be a very fine, green, adequately fresh summer fragrance with just enough spice, depth and refinement to save it from the fate of being undeniably and exclusively a young man’s scent.

  61. :

Adds a good combination of citrus, grass, and wood to make a very masculine, modern fragrance. I find this to be VERY wearable and unmistakably masculine. Good all year round, but better for spring and summer.

It was a blind buy for me.. which became my signature eventually. Really good refreshing fragrance. Just awesome. And amzingly stays 8-10 hours easily on my skin. I just love the tomato leave and citrus combination. Very well made. It is refreshing MALE(both men and boys can carry it really well) fragrance. And can be worn by any age group.
I do only 2 sprays of this. Just works well for me. Soon will be buying new bottle for myself. Will hand over older bottle to my cousin. As he also loves this one.
One more thing can some one suggest a fragrance which smells mile tomato leafy and green notes in it?

A lot of people bash this one, saying that it doesn’t last, that it’s generic…but you know what? This lasts longer than acqua di gio and gets loads of compliments!
On a hot day, put this on and enjoy. Girls love it…smells refreshing and green.
    Great stuff!

If your looking for an average sports cologne or casual cologne this would suit well! This fragrance opens up with a tomato smell with a hint of tangerine in the background! Smells very green and casual to me! Longevity is about 7 hours with weak projection! I have not received any compliments wearing this. Overall a decent fragrance but nothing to hype up

Aggressively green and fruity up front, like a watermelon limeade, then settling in with a little spicy patchouli. A bit simple. Moderate sillage, longevity moderate, characterized by a fast attack that fades within three or four hours. Better for a younger person and a little pricey for the degree of interest and sophistication the bottle. Not bad but not my thing.

Green, green and green. This fragrance is green. Yeah, green. A pleasant scent, but smell a little bit like disinfecting product, little bit synthetic. It has a very poor projection and longevity, last a few hours on me, noticed only by a few. Keeping that in mind, it can be used for casual or office, that about all i see for it, because i prefere acquatic scent for hot summer days. If I have to choose between it and Lacoste essential sport, I choose sport edition without hesitating. Here with the score:
Smell: 7/10. Not bad, but their is a lot of better scent for that price. Very green smelling.
Longevity: 2,5/5. Rude, but true. Last few hours.
Projection: 1,5/5. Notice by a few only.
Versatility: 3/5. For daily use only. If you don’t like acquatic scent, that might be good for hot summer days.
Overall: 14/25. Not a bad smelling fragrance, but lacking in projection and longevity, and you have to like green scent to appreciate it. It is a pass for me.

The top notes are really fresh, sporty and fruity. Reminds me a little of Ribena(blackcurrent juice), I guess thats from the cassia. Too bad they don’t stick around a little longer as this scent becomes quite unrecognizable after about an hour. The dry down is slightly woody and green and that is the only way I can find to describe it. You know you’re wearing a fragrance but its so faint and in the back round that it would be hard to distinguish it from other brands.
At first this kinda annoyed me but then I realized what kind of scent this is. A purely casual, sporty fragrance to throw on when showered after a game or even just chilling at home. This is for people who want to smell fresh and clean not looking for attention or compliments.
So is it versatile, no. The projection and longevity are poor too. I certainly don’t buy into this ‘time-release technology’ marketing hook Lacoste throw at us because I have never gotten more than 3 hours with this stuff.
I personally find Lacoste Essential quite overrated, but if you’re looking for an inoffensive, casual, moderately priced fragrance then it may be for you. 5/10

Fleshy and green, slighty soapy and powdery. I smell something slightly sweet. Maybe it’s the cassia. I don’t get it strongly though. Cassia smells like cinnamon. I mean it’s also called Chinese cinnamon. Also no tangerine or rose. I find this fragrance very nondescript.

It has a Chrome vibe with some green. If azzaros chrome had a green scent this would be it. I like it though good stuff

A rather harsh lemon and alcohol opening made me instantly regret spraying this on, but only moments later it rounds out as other notes appear at either side. One note is slightly green and I’m assuming this is what they are calling the “tomato leaf” note. It also claims to have blackcurrant (cassis) in the topnotes, and while whatever note is here does not smell all that true to actual blackcurrant absolute, there is a slightly sour note pinned under the ‘green note’ and I’ll play along with the marketing and call that blackcurrant.
The initial impression of this is actually quite similar to YSL’s Live Jazz, although I like the green notes more here. They smell less ‘salsa like’ than the notes in Live Jazz, and despite this fragrance being a bit ‘rougher’ around the edges, it all seems to work so far with the sporty vibe. Of course, I’m wearing this in my air-conditioned abode, and not in any kind of sporty setting, so keep that in mind. I’ve no idea how this holds up in the heat or with
