Description

Escentric 02 together with Molecule 02 represents the second completely synthetic fragrance pair, launched by Escentric Molecules. This time it was inspired by the basic scented component of grey amber, ambroxan. It is placen in the centre. The rest of the composition, just like in Escentric 01, is composed out of artful copies of the natural ingredients: a scent identical to the real musk – muscone, beautiful hedione (smells like jasmine), elderflower extract and orris. The fragrance is light with a shining and brisk opening (elderflower and hedoine) and a pleasantly warm finish. Read more about ambroxan here. The perfume was launched in 2008. The nose behind this fragrance is Geza Schoen.

Escentric 02 reminds me of D&G’s Light Blue, except without that citric component in the dry down, and with the addition of pepper. This scent is one you can wear when you are tired of wearing fragrances, still want to wear a fragrance, and want to keep it light. Remember, Molecule 02 is not the same as Escentric 02, as I see many reviews here describing Molecule 02 (celery, mineral, etc). They are completely different. I like Molecule 02 without a doubt, but they are very different fragrances, so please keep in mind that Escentric is the one that smells like a different version of Light Blue.

Escentric 02 with its iso-e-super and ambroxan is an icon of clean contemporary fragrance. Totally unisex. If you want a more feminine version with a plummy ambroxan, try MJ Decadence edp.

Escentric 02 was released in 2008 along with its pair (and fragrance theme) Molecule 02. Just as it happened in 2006, this duo was created based on a specific synthetic molecule, this time Ambroxan.
According to the perfumer, Escentric 02 has 13.5% of Ambroxan, which is the maximum percentage capable of being dissolved in the composition of a fragrance. Any attempt above this value causes the molecule to crystallize out of the solution. The other notes are hedione (a synthetic compound of floral nuances, similar to jasmine), muscone (a compound that smells like musk), gin tonic accord (obtained through elderflowers extract), iris and Almdudler accord (a kind of soda, which is very famous in Austria).
We see this composition and think of something completely different. But on the skin, Escentric 02 behaves like a floral-musk fragrance, full of powdery nuances and without much mystery. There is a citric moment in the beginning, which makes us think that the perfume goes in one direction, but with the passage of time, it follows another, quite distinct. While the output is vibrant and at the same time dry, because of the iris, what we know by the body (or heart) of the fragrance is smoother and more elegant. Escentric 02 is comfortable as if it were an affectionate embrace over a sweet base, which remains for all time. It smells of coziness, of cleansing, of skin scented by a creamy soap, after bathing in winter. It conveys to me all that ambergris sensuality that, unfortunately, I could not feel in Molecule 02. If the other was concave, this one is convex.
In my opinion, Escentric 02 is for Molecule 02 as Escentric 01 is for Molecule 01: both are much better and give me the feeling of applying a real fragrance. And more importantly: the feeling of being perfumed for real. Not to mention that it has excellent projection and high durability. It is not an aggressive fragrance, but it does not stop exhaling.

On my skin I get a warm, slightly musky orange peel oil.
Good on it‘s own but amazing to layer and enhance other citrus or vetiver based fragrances.

Fresh, masculine scent. I am not picking out a particular scent. Just smells like iso e super and ambroxan. This is a close skin scent, it doesn’t project. The longevity isn’t great either. Maybe four hours.
There’s nothing bad about this – it’s office-safe and inoffensive – but it’s not spectacular either.

Seems that I like Ambroxan and Iris. Woody and sharp and then calming and comforting and back, that’s really good – when you are fed up with strong and overpowering notes from your collection.
Actually you can re-apply it through day when you want to feel it a little more.
Sillage is close to skin and longevity moderate.

So I work in a homeopathic pharmacy and I just love wearing this alone, or layered with some sweeter fragrance, like Mon Guerlain or Good Girl or 5th Avenue. It’s just really clean and pure when worn alone!
Matches my white robe & the image of any type of pharmacy or clinic/hospital in my opinion! 🙂

Don’t get me wrong, I like a quirky perfume, but I find this to be one of the worst-smelling fragrances I’ve ever worn. On my skin, it smells like a car repair shop (motor oil, hot tires) and rotting celery. A serious yuck!
Of course, there are many folks here who have vastly different experiences with it–I guess that’s one of the draws of the Escentric Molecules line, right? Nevertheless, I’d definitely recommend that any interested party try it before buying.

Warm, and citrusy all the way. There’s some minor development of the scent, but basically it’s linear, even though it lasts for a good 10+ hrs. It is too heavy for a hot summer time and can be suffocating with more than 2 sprays. Perfect for spring, and for many occasions.

This opens with the smell of being at the phlebotomist’s. Rubbing alcohol, blue tourniquets, and bandages over cotton balls come to mind. This was unabated until I scrubbed at it, but the scent wouldn’t leave completely. Base notes of quiet, clean musk lingered – pleasant, but not worth the opener.

The opening smells like wart remover. Settles down to cumin.
    Skin scent in 15 minutes.

Literally perfect. As smooth as a fragrance could possibly be, but also very interesting, unique, and alluring. It doesn’t turn sour like many other scents that can be worn in the heat. I feel like no one could dislike this

Bought a sample pack from LuckyScent. So far I’m at really enjoying this scent. I smelled Molecule 01 and it is good, but way to common. I can see myself purchasing this, just not any time soon.

Super cool perfume everyone should get it since fresh fragrances vapourise very quickly. This one stays put

Bought a generous sample of this. How is this meant to be worn?! It must work very very differently on different people. I know all perfume does, but I am in shock and disbelieve that only a couple of people mentioned CELERY in their reviews… That’s basically all I can smell. If I try really hard to describe it in more words, I’d say it smells like a soup. Very herbal soup, with a hint of parsley, carrot, but mostly celery. And since I cannot stand celery (just because of its strong scent), this perfume makes me very sick.
I did my best and waited for it to evolve into something else on my skin, but it really is very linear. Three hours is all I could stand and then had to wash it off my skin with soda and harsh soaps.
I wish more people had same chemistry with it as I did and described it as herbal rather than citrusy or musky. I would have stayed miles away from it.

This scent is so barely there, I almost can’t smell it at all.
    Such poor longevity and sillage.
The scent itself seemed okayish, but I am not pleased with the longevity.
I can smell faint amber note and that’s it. There’s some masculine scent lingering.
I don’t recommend it, it was gone in 20 minutes.

I get compliments on this all the time. Of course the wearer will more than likely get olfactory fatigue, but everyone else around you really enjoys it.

Escentric 02 opens with sparkling, herbal lemon and juniper, almost like a glass of gin. Although the mineral/mild ambery warmth duality of ambroxan is unmistakable in this fragrance, this time, the ambroxan is seen through an abstract citrus floral musky filter. The floral part vaguely resembles clean jasmine and fresh, chalky tuberose with tiny bit of lemon nuance, and the musk is like cotton puff clutched on the ambroxan, smoothing out any possible rough edge of its mineral aspect.
The fragrance then remains this fresh, nebulous, mildly sweet skin scent until the end. The sillage is quite close to the skin, and the longevity can reach over 8 hours.
As interesting as the concept of Molecule 02, ambroxan solely on itself does occasionally manifest a somewhat subtle “nose-hair burning” effect to me. With Escentric 02, it feels consistently smoother. The sparkly citrus opening is also very uplifting and refreshing. If you happen to be looking for a nice-smelling, abstract, “non-perfume-y”, clean skin scent, I think Escentric 02 worths a try.

Weird.. I asked about “gin & tonic” and the lady recommended this because of the “juniper note” but I guess that wasn’t part of the brand’s intention? (Because it did really smell like gin in the beginning)

It goes on like those Fisherman’s Friend lozenges but I will wait to see how it develops
Edit – it stays the same Fisherman’s Friend aroma and quickly fades into nothing. Waste of money.

First impression – light version of CC X. If someone likes CC X, this one is Good for any season, even for hot weather. Than checked the list of Geza Schoen creations – CC X is in the list )))
PS. Nothing similar to ONE D&G imo, as said below

This is a fantastic fragrance, with a clean synthetic weird combo of both marine and citrus-like freshness unique to ambroxan. Can’t really describe a particular type of citrus exactly, but most resembles grapefruit. This has a remarkable similarity, I think, to Dior Sauvage, likely due to the shared abroxan note in both, but this one is definitely the niche-smelling version, with less fruitiness and sweetness than Sauvage. I think this one is more interesting.
As an important side note, this *SHOULD NOT* be mistaken for the confusingly named “Escentric Molecule 02”. It is not the same fragrance. That one is pure ambroxan, while this fragrance is built largely around ambroxan, but with additional notes as well.
The fragrance does not develop at all. At. All. It’s completely lineaer, which is not a bad thing in this case, as the opening is absolutely fantastic. The longevity on me is absolutely monster, lasting 12+ hours on my very dry skin. That was in winter. In summer, 16+ easy. Projection is appropriate, about 1 meter, not more, and while 2 sprays will get you noticed, it won’t suffocate due to its inherent lightness and freshness.
If you can find this one on the discount sites or the Bay, you’ll pay about the same as you would for a retail 100ml of Sauvage, and I think this one is the better option.

  25. :

Escentric Molecules 02 opens with such weird citrus-woody note.. It is something like wet wood and bold citrus. It is like a nasty explosion on skin, strong and sharp, pictures of destroyed industrial plants, nuclear disasters and catastrophic movies of the future come to my mind, but for a while.. after some minutes, it calms down. It remains quite a peppery-woody-fresh and citrusy masculine scent. The distinguished notes are iris, ambroxan, something woody and weak jasmine.
I reccomend it for cool spring-summer days and autumn. The longevity is nice, about 7-8 hours and the sillage is moderate.
It is a nice scent, nice for an option when you need something really weird to wear! Is it a masterpiece for me? No. Not at all. But it is interesting and.. weird!!

    Papery powder
For the past several months I have been on the hunt for a fragrance that captured a very specific aroma. I first encountered it in our closet and quickly discovered it was emanating in waves from a coat that my fiancée had recently purchased from H&M. The aroma was beautiful and captivating, so much so that it remained on my mind. At once papery, powdery and earthy, it smelled like a quality iris synthetic but there were other elements at play. Working at a fragrance boutique, I immediately went to work attempting to find a fragrance that captured the aroma of this garmet, but to no avail. My search intensified after I purchased a jacket from the retailer several months later that was imbued with the very same aroma. At this point I was sure that any fragrance that came close would have to contain an orris component but being a bit of an iris fanatic, I had either tried or owned a swath of orris-centric fragrances and nothing jumped out as a match, that is, until today. While putting together recommendations for a customer I grabbed Escentric 02. I’ll confess I haven’t paid the Escentric fragrances as much attention as the Molecule fragrances but I had tried the fragrance several times years ago. For whatever reason (I’m assuming the subtlety of the composition) it hadn’t left much of an impression. Anyway—finally getting to the point—it smells very close to if not identical to my mystery aroma. I’m quite excited by this revelation, if only for the closure it provides. The problem with finding new fragrances at this point is figuring out how to incorporate them into one’s sizable rotation. Also, I don’t know that I would necessarily want to wear Escentric 02 but I definitely want all of my coats to be inundated with its addictive aroma, which, of course, begs the question: is Escentric 02 more functional fragrance than fine fragrance? You all can be the judge of that. I’m just happy to be able to re-scent my jacket.

Some of the former reviews here are not referring to “Escentric Molecules Escentric 02” but “Escentric Molecules Molecules 02”. I admit, Geza Schön’s concept is … absolutely confusing for non-experts.
Escentric 02 starts off citrussy as others said before. In the same time the ambroxan is here, not just noticable but playing a leading role.
This perfume is said to be linear. Still, during the first 30 minutes a lot goes on, starting with citrus, then a strong celery/carrot comes … not too pleasant … and fades or should I say tunes in? Luckily it does.
This composition works like a big cast. Category: comedy. Speaking in terms of TV scripts, this perfume brings the show “Arrested Development” to my mind. A lot is going on, synchronous*. And it all makes sense and adds up.
This scent – or should I say “these scents”? – entertains me in the best way possible. There is always more to discover. And I like every aspect I discover. Sniffing at my wrist I sense a rich perfume. Not heavy, but rich. And so entertaining. More than I could ask for.
Escentric Molecules Escentric 02 – very nicely done, Geza Schön!

I smell so much nutmeg and cardamom, I think the chemical substances give this perfume these features. I like to analyse this over and over again. Is a great scent for humid or torrid summer days worn with a loose shirt, shorts and sandals. One of my favs so far!

I made my own Molecule 01 with iso e-super, and I also tried Timbersilk, the new iso e-super. I must say I prefer iso e-super because it is rounder, more unisex. I always receive a lot of compliments when wearing my home made Molecule 01. But I’m tired of it, it has not enough complexity. I also made my own Molecule 02 and I don’t use it often.
Escentric 01 smells much more interesting in my opinion.
You still have the wow effect of Molecule 01, but I enjoy it much more. I think it is one of the best fragrance made with iso e-super. So fresh, so clean!
But I think Escentric 02 is even more interesting.
When I wear Escentric 01, I receive compliments.
But with Escentric 02, people don’t tell me I smell good, they just act weird. They smile with a silly face, they come closer, they just look at me with a smile and they don’t know what to say…
Escentric 01 will make people think you smell clean, Escentric 02 will make some people want to hug you or more.

Ok I just ordered it and I can say I already love it, eventhough I just sprayed it on my arm. Yes it can be worn by a female very well, you just have to know how to pull it out right. A casual outfit will do it. 🙂 Mhmmm lovely.

Well I finally succumbed to this line & decided to purchase 02 because my favourite beauty boutique was selling mini 30 ml travel editions for Christmas. A great idea without the huge financial commitment to own a full sized bottle.
I am really loving this on me. The sillage is incredible & the longevity a good 4-5 hours. Even better when layered with other fragrances, it seems to enhance whatever other scent you are wearing.
I get a continual musky incense vibe but it doesn’t develop or evolve much further from that. Yes that makes it quite linear as a scent but sometimes I just want a scent to stay the same from start to it’s finish.
It is in my bag always.

I decided to try Escentric Molecule 2 although being skeptical about this line and concept.. Is it like a perfume that smells like your own skin but better? I do not get it and it didn’t work for me at all. The initial stage consists of a nutty almond like aroma , slightly bitter sweet, cozy and beautiful, the second stage smells of…nothing!! The almond note has already disappeared! I decided to wait for the dry down.. Hairspray..that’s how it smells on me. A generic , cheap hairspray smell . There is no longevity nor silage. No need to waste time and money on this line, my own skin smells better without it..

I was desperate to try this so took the plunge and bought a full bottle only to discover that the synthetics in this did not mix well with my skin. Stupid I know, to buy a perfume renowned for its use of the best synthetics when I tend towards natural perfumery most of the time but hey ho, my curiosity got the better or me. I like amber so thought it worth a try but found the ambroxan to dry for my taste I like my ambers more smooth and creamy. My bottle is now up for sale on ebay for almost half the original price and with only one spray used if anyone’s interested! My usernames delilahcat2013 look me up on ebay if you want to try this perfume.

I can see a lot of variance in these reviews. For me though, I love this scent! I have gotten more compliments on this scent than on any other. I love the mix between ambroxan and ISO-E Super. I don’t smell pepper or citrus at all like some say. Escentric 01 has a very peppery smell to me though which I do not like. I see this scent as very synthetic and that is okay with me. It is one of those scents that you cannot put a finger on. It just smells really good and familiar. Like you know the person. I own Molecule 01 and I can’t really smell anything unfortunately. This one though smells great to me. Can’t see why anyone could hate it. All I have heard are great things from those around me.

This is my first perfume from ecsentric molecules, this one really had me walk on the clouds. Weird in a good way, it opens like a very strong isopopryl alcohol that is quite nasty to the nose. But wait as it dries off peppery woody note kicks off. It presents itself as fresh, citrusy however, you can still pick the alcohol. I work in the medical field so i appreciate this whole hospital scent going on here… But this one is waaaay better, i tell you. Also i find it great for starting and stimulating your olfactory nerves in the morning.
The longevity and sillage are both very good. 🙂

So, here comes the “you don’t sweat much for a fat girl” compliment: YOU DON’T SMELL MUCH FOR AN EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE PERFUME. This opens with a powerful blast of isopropyl alcohol, which depending on your age, will make you think about shots in doctors’ offices or mimeographed tests in school. It then settles into a wispy sad musk with a possibility of pepper and a memory of something green. This may also be my brain desperately searching for meaning in this void. Why do I feel like this is an elaborate prank?
    Sillage: angstroms
    Durability: forever I suppose
    Fabulosity: the emperor’s new clothes
    Price to value ratio: awful

    Brief encounter.
It’s early morning in Stockholm, just you and a couple of other commuters on the platform. A sudden awareness of a stirring at the ticket barrier, a group of 3 figures push through. The figure at the front resembling Julian Assange, a subtle almost imperceivable sense of excitement rushes through you as you connect for just a moment…
Fanciful eh?! I love the escentrics, some more than others. The molecules are way too subtle for me. 01 & 02 being favourite. The above description may make 02 seem cold but it’s not that, it’s modern and warm and the blend is genius.
I saw a line drawing by Degas I think it was called ‘a nude’ in the Walker gallery Liverpool, it affected me more than anything that day because something about its simplicity 3 or 4 lines at most, it allowed me to ‘fill in the gaps’ stunningly simple yet perfect.
Geza Schoen has caused a bit of a stir in the perfume world. I love it!

    This is a weird one!
After Molecule 02 I could only try this because there is no 01 in the shop. Still I think that’s the only place where I can find these fragrances, absolutely unknown to most people.
I tried Escentric 02 and it smelled very weird to me. It’s all about ambery note, very simple, nothing else and it’s extremely light smelling to my nose. I think it works well with my chemistry, maybe with pretty all chemistries. Due to its subtlety I sprayed a good amount and went off into the city. I immediately noticed an old man behind me who passed by and stared at me with a curious attitude. I was in a good mood alltogether because I had a fine day. A girl behind me had the same behaviour of the old man.
I’m not sure the fragrance made any effect on me. I felt fine and more confident, but it could be due to other factors. After only a few minutes (very few) I could barely detect anything on my wrist and neck.
I went down in the crowded underground and only a few people looked at me, both men and women and almost smiled to me. This is veeeery strange, as normally nobody cares for anyone and not for me anyway.
Once at home I stressed my family saying: Smell this! How is it? What do you smell? Is it a smell or a stink?
My mother said it smelled like Anais Anais or another completely different scent she wears! I loathe both.
My father said it smelled very faint and a little bit like tobacco leaves! Tobacco leaves?!? I wonder what strange noses live in my family. He uses no perfume and basically hates pretty all, but fresh tobacco leaves must be a childhood smell for him. I totally dislike tobacco leaves. I would like to test it again and ask to other people around. Sometimes I’m such a teaser, but I’m basically curious!

Escentric Molecules fragrances are always such an interesting experience for me; they are definetly one of a kind perfumes and never fail to pique my curiousity.
Escentric 02 opens with a strange, almost woody aroma which quickly develops into a scent that i can only describe as ‘celery-ish’. Just as quickly as I identify that however, a sense of cold sunshine develops; the description of this perfume says that it has a ‘shining and brisk opening’ which is completely true. To me, this brisk opening is reminiscent of the way you imagine morning sunshine on clean, untouched dunes of snow; the colour would be a soft smooth yellow.
Unfortunately for me, the odour of rubbing alcohol develops quite quickly and i lose the fragrance of ‘cold sunshine’.
I would strongly recommend the curious try the Escentric perfumes, and try them with an open mind. They are very interesting.
