Gorgeous tobacco! Light, not too heavy and just a tad bit sweet. Very long lasting, I sprayed some last night and I can still smell it in the morning and it got even more beautiful! This is the best of the AA I tried so far. I have put Erdenstern on the short list for potential full bottles. Unisex, but more masculine than feminine. Just put more lipstick on with this one! lol

If you’re looking for a realistic whiskey gourmand, here it is! This is the booziest fragrance I’ve ever worn. Literal booze. Opens like Creme de Cacao then develops into pure whiskey. At times, it smells like you’ve splashed yourself with whiskey, not perfume. I write this seriously: do not drive while wearing this fragrance. There will be trouble if you are pulled over. Far drydown is a pleasant powdery cocoa-musk. Not really for me, but might be a holy grail for boozy gourmand lovers.

All the sweet goodness did not last on me at all.. The end result (arrived in less than half an hr) is something faintly dusty and slightly bitter.

It is a cacao powder in disguise! a combination of tobacco ashes, tobacco powder, and a cacao powder. Tonka beans are there & so as the opoponax. The major pleasing factor is that it forms a confusion as you think you smell the cacao powder and in a sudden it becomes an illusion thinking it’s the tobacco ashes that creates the cacao haze, that’s because the cacao powder is kept at minimal creating a captivating image of mild hide & dark sweet. The cacao note isn’t sweet or cloying, it’s like the dark 80% assorted chocolate note with less coco butter and sugar kept to minimal to let the chocolate sensation overcome the whole scene.
Quite pleasing and for the cacao powder sensation lovers.

    BOOZY
This concoction opens with a blast of McCormicks Vanilla Extract smell-alike and eventually settles into a soft earthy sweet pleasantness. I never lose the whiskey note, which, for some may be intoxicating, for others, an all too familiar reminder of youthful late night bar crawls.
Although it’s been awhile since sampling – this reminds me of Frapin’s Speakeasy, and the earthy/chocolate note is reminiscent of Serge Luten Borneo 1834.

Despite all of the great notes in this, the overall smell reminds me of whiskey, and very potent whiskey at that!

Another member shared sample with me. I would agree with the previous reviewer this is likened to Tonka Imperiale but less aromatic and rounded out with more spice and woods.
It is warmer and to be honest, I like it better. More vetiver in this- becomes a vetiver centric scent after couple hours on my skin.
If you have seen my wardrobe, I love vetiver, and this is one of most smooth earth without being dirty or headache and does not overpower other notes. Very well balanced this. Tonka and tobacco have a slight Tobacco Vanille Ford rold here- very light and rounding out the woods and earthiness.
I don’t get anything like oceanic mentioned before, I mainly detect warming ambergris accord, tonka, spices and honey like tobacco.
I need full bottle of this.
    10/10

Remember the first time you smelled Hermes Narguile?
    I just had that now.
    This is absolutely stunning.
I actually stopped what I was doing to come write this because it is that incredibly delicious!
I will forever have this in my favourites. Top 2.
Erdenstern is likened to what you would get if you blended Guerlain Tonka Imperiale and topped it off with Hermes Narguile= head over heels LOVE <3
I was so sad when I had to stop wearing those but the headaches (if I sprayed on clothes) and skin rashes weren’t worth it.
Overjoyed I get to enjoy something I loved like those others in a product I can wear and not worry about breaking out.
There is a light musk over a light christmas spice combination in an ambergris accord that sets the tone of warmth and cozy relaxation like your favourite soft warm sweater on a cool fall day. There is almost a honey’d tobacco which is so soft , and, combined with opoponax, brings a deeply grounded sense of peace.
The tonka with it’s almond-like dynamic and cocoa blended seamlessly throughout bring a beautiful balance of sweetness and spice as a whole.
Think cinnamon sugar cookies lightly sprinkled on almonds, honey’d tobacco, spices and woodsy base. Not only is it delicious but also I like knowing when I inhale the actual essences I get that therapeutic effect that only they can bring. Olfaction can act directly to calm the nervous system, bring about healing processes, and done here in a warming borderline gourmand scent. This stays close to skin and lasts 5-6 hours on my skin and around 8 if it gets on my clothes.
This is my NEW fall/winter signature as long as she makes it. 🙂
    Thank you Tanja!!

Hold me back, I have just over $225 dollars in my checking account and I am about to blow it on this. The earthy/not-too-sweet tobacco dry down is to die for. Impressive longevity (lingers the next morning) and perfect sillage (only for the person next to you). “Earth Star” indeed.
Update: If you need an Erdenstern-like fix on a budget, La Vie Del Profumo out of Italy sells an all-natural scent called “Samurai” that is very similar and much cheaper. It’s not in the Fragrantica database but you can find it on their website.

This is a polite musky-earthy scent with an oceanic tinge to it. It has a little bit of a “greatest hits” feel at first as it reminds me of other scents in the line (it opens with the cedar of Precious Woods and the dirt of Bohemian Spice, but it’s more restrained than those two). It’s sweetened, but very subtly, in a way that strikes me more as milky/vanillic. The ambergris isn’t too prominent but it provides a general warmth, and the central musk accord seems to be more of a vegetal ambrette / angelica-type affair—very similar to Strange Invisible’s Musc Botanique. The result is that of a smooth, well-proportioned vegetal musk in which the more acrid aspects are softened by vanillic notes. It’s very nice, extremely well put together, but it’s a tad more restrained than others in the line which, given the price-point, should probably be considered. (If your only exposure to the line is Calling All Angels, just know that it’s a fraction of that volume.) Overall, Erdenstern certainly accomplished what it set out to do without relying on synthetic support, and the musky base holds up far better than I expected. Recommended, if the genre appeals to you.

    This scent is amazing.
As with most all natural perfumes,it opens quite strong on the woody side and one really needs to wait for the dry down for it to experience the beauty of it, which after 1/2hr develops into a beautiful, velvety, soft scent.
Woody, musky, soapy, velvety and soft.
Erdenstern is more like a warm, gentle rain in a mist-shrouded meadow, an earthy, musky meditation with an almost spiritual power to uplift and inspire reflection. It turns into a very light, subtle but very layered and complex perfume.Perfect for the colder days. Longevity is quite impressive. It lasts the longest on my scarve, where I can still smell it the next day.
I find it very different from all other April Aromatics scents that I have encountered. Its a winner and for me one of the best of this line so far.

The vetiver in this ruins it for me……sad as there are so many beauties in this line.
