Ooo , my , I read the reviews here on ” Enigma ” and decided to investigate . I found 1.7 ounce for under $30.00 . So , I went in for a blind buy , I wish to ” Thank ” those reviewers that left me going ” Hmmm ” . It came right after my morning shower and I put on . At first I could smell a soapy obnoxious , old waft of scent , like it was stale , within 20 minutes it had changed to an old warm, intoxicating , ” Friend ” . It’s spicy like Tabu , or Obsession , with a hint of Youth Dew . I totally get the Patchouli , and Oriental with a hint of Citrus. ~ What I did not expect was the powdery waft every time I walked or waved my arms and hands , I mean every time . I’d catch the smell of Vanilla , and I swear I was going , What is that smell , it is delicious , like a Warm Embrace . I do get a hint of Amber , not sure about the Rose , Carnation or any Jasmine . It lasted the full day on me until my morning shower , it was just a hint on wrists , and clothes . This will remain in my Scent Wardrobe among my top 10 ~ I can’t speak to this being an original formulation or not , but if this is the next generation , I’d love to get a spritz of the original . If you tend to lust after this scent of a gone by era , don’t hesitate , do yourself a flavor and at least spritz a sample . It is an experience too behold ~ /=^ } ~

Spicy carnations in the style of ‘70’s fragrances. Soapy, creamy and subtle with lots of fresh green. If you find this at a bargain price, grab it. No idea what version I have, but it’s a rock solid performer with good staying power. One of those scents that absolutely improves and evolves after the first spray, you will catch yourself wondering where the amazing perfumed breeze is coming from, until you suddenly realise it’s your own skin.

This one is my love from the very first sniff, I was given chance to smell old, real version, not the one widely available now.
I was very interested in this fragrance for one reason. So excuse me for this extra-information related to it. The face of Enigma was woman with most dramatic destiny – very beautiful soviet actress, Victoria Fyodorova, daughter of Zoya Fyodorova, another famous USSR actress in 30-s and – United States Navy Captain Jackson R. Tate. When Soviet leader Joseph Stalin learned of the affair, Tate was declared an unwelcome person and expelled from Moscow, and Zoya Fyodorova was arrested and sent to Siberia for 8 years. Their daughter, Victoria, was born January 8, 1946, and was named for V-E Day. She was growing up not knowing until 9y.o that her mother is that beautiful famous actress.
University of Connecticut professor Irene Kirk learned of Victoria’s story in 1959 and spent years trying to find Tate in the United States. Tate was unaware of having a daughter and of his former lover’s arrest and imprisonment. When Kirk found Tate in 1973, she carried correspondence between the two back and forth to Moscow. In 1974, Tate began a campaign to convince the Soviet government to allow his daughter to travel to see him in the United States.
The story of Tate’s attempts to reunite with his daughter gained worldwide attention and after a personal appeal by Leonid Brezhnev, Victoria was granted permission to leave the Soviet Union, arriving in the United States in March 1975 on a three-month travel visa.
So at the end she stayed in USA and that’s how Enigma is now associated with her face and destiny behind this face.
How does it smell – to me – like the closest relative of vintage Shocking Schiaparelli, yet like nothing else. Surreal, womanly, magnetic, like Dali’s drawings. It smells like our past, when we would come to old house where we have grown up, entered our childhood room, sat on bed and started to re-read our childhood postcards, look at old photographs, holding that old paper close to our face, being able to smell the memory itself.

I discovered this perfume in the early 80’s and was wearing it when I met my husband. In the years since then, I have collected and worn dozens of perfumes. I gave my last bottle of Enigma to my mother a year before she died because she shared my love of perfume and Enigma worked well for her. While at my parent’s home a few weeks ago, I asked my dad if I could take it back, thinking I would keep it simply as a memory of Mom. But since having it back, I have worn it every day and fallen in love with it all over again. Enigma is woody and slightly powdery but also green, if that makes sense. It’s taking me back to so many things, but mostly, to myself.

Lots of woody notes, and a real punch of spices. On my skin it turns male’ish. I have problems with a lot of scents that turn supermale’ish on me. This one is not for me.
Massor av träiga noter och en rejäl dos kryddor. På min hud slår denna över till manligt. jag har problem med att vissa dofter slår över och blir manliga på mig tyvärr. Denna är inte för mig.

This one is the definition ‘Dont judge a book by its cover’. I was looking around a perfume shop, and as I do, walk into the aisle with the more rarer finds. I spot this one, I had never heard of it before. I was just testing different ones, I pick this one up and think what a tacky, cheap looking bottle it was like a throwback from the 80s. Price tag= £29, I thought it was a joke and that itd better be good for that price…And was it! I knew by smelling it had to be from the 70s, one of those white florals with a hint of green notes and spices. Its nothing elaborate, more of a natrual beauty =)

I have worn this fragrance since it was introduced and have gotten compliments every time I wear it.n Unfortunately, I ran out of it, and when I reordered it, it seems to not be the same as the original. Makes me very very sad. Totally —- one of my favorets.
